Actors have ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business’ connections but only just met, Radcliffe tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News For a while, it was a running joke between Daniel Radcliffe and Darren Criss that the “Harry Potter” star and “A Very Potter Musical” star had yet to meet, even though the two shared a “Potter” connection, celebrity status and Criss succeeded Radcliffe in the hit Broadway revival of “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.” MTV News recently caught up with Radcliffe, and he revealed that, at long last, the two actors finally met just before Criss took over Radcliffe’s role for a limited run. “We have met. I can confirm, we have met,” Radcliffe said with a smile. “Somebody showed me a very doctored photograph of our meeting; there were no photographs at our meeting, so if that’s what people are interested in, they’re going to be disappointed. “But no, I had a lovely chat with him, talked about the show, I don’t really deign to give advice, but I gave him my number and same with Nick Jonas and said, you know, ‘Contact me if you’ve got anything to ask. I’m always around.’ I passed on a joke to him that Matthew Broderick gave to me which Robert Morse gave to Matthew Broderick,” Radcliffe explained of an inside joke shared by Morse and Broderick, who also played the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in “How to Succeed.” “So that’s become sort of a legacy joke now, which is nice.” Criss will only be in the show for three weeks until he has to return to work on “Glee,” after which Jonas will take over January 24 through July 1. Posted to the fest’s Facebook page, the roster boasts Radiohead , The Black Keys and Dr. Dre with Snoop Dogg . In response to last year’s event selling out — a week after the 2011 lineup was announced — the festival is experimenting with featuring the same artists for two consecutive three-day weekends: April 13-15 and April 20-22. The Black Keys, who performed last year, return to Friday night, this time getting top billing. Radiohead, Saturday’s headliner, last graced Indio, California’s Empire Polo Fields in 2004. This is the first booking for West Coast hip-hop legends Dre and Snoop, who will close out the main stage Sunday night. Also headed to the desert are Florence and the Machine, Bon Iver, Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky and the just-announced At the Drive-In reunion. Miracles really do happen… A young girl who was believed to have been killed by the 2004 tsunami that claimed thousands of lives reunited with her family in Indonesia this week. A girl who was swept away in the Indian Ocean tsunami seven years ago said Friday that she broke down in tears this week after tracking down her parents, who had long lost hope of finding her alive. Fifteen-year-old Wati showed up at a cafe in Meulaboh, a town in Aceh province, earlier this week saying that not long after the wave hit she was found and “adopted” by a woman who forced her to beg in the streets, sometimes until 1 a.m. When she stopped bringing in money, Wati was kicked out by the woman. She then set out to find her family, but had very little information to guide her — only the name of her grandfather, Ibrahim. Someone at the cafe tracked down a man by that name, and the man — unsure if it was actually his granddaughter — quickly summoned her parents. “When I saw my mother, I knew it was her. I just knew it,” said Wati, who was given that name by the woman who found her. Her original name is Meri Yuranda. The Dec. 26, 2004, tsunami that killed 230,000 people in a dozen nations hit Aceh — closest to the epicenter of the magnitude-9.1 quake that spawned waves 30 feet (10 meters) high — the hardest. With tens of thousands of bodies never recovered in the province, many people continue to cling to hope of finding lost loved ones, putting up fliers or ads in newspapers. Reunions, however, are extremely rare and, when they occur, rarely confirmed. Wati’s mother, Yusniar binti Ibrahim Nur, 35, said she did not need a DNA test to prove the girl was hers. “She has her father’s face,” she said, adding that she had stopped believing she would ever see her daughter again. “Then I saw the scar over her eye and mole on her hip, and I was even more sure.” Wati and her father had different accounts of what happened on the day of the tsunami. The girl says she remembers her father putting her into a boat with her sister, who is still missing and presumed dead. The father says that before the family was separated, he put both of his daughters on the roof of their house. What a heartwarming story. It’s such a shame that people are so foul sometimes, if she was able to find her family with that little bit of information just imagine if the woman who’d found her was more kindhearted — she could have been back home long ago! What advice would you give a woman who wants to maintain the health of her own hair while she wears a weave? You can maintain the health of natural hair by shampooing and conditioning it every 10-14 days. A deep penetrating conditioner (meaning heat is required) – sit under dryer for at least 20 minutes) and then follow with a moisturizing conditioner if needed [at all] since it depends on the state of your hair. [Note that a moisturizing conditioner may not always be needed], but your scalp may require [some] attention. [Also beware that] some conditioners can coat the hair and cause weightiness and non-flexibility. By Kara Warner Johnny Depp Photo: WireImage Much like the unforgivable and unpredictable nature of the American Old West, the plight of Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski’s big-screen adaptation of “The Lone Ranger” has been quite a bumpy ride. The film got the green light earlier this year, with Depp settled into the role of Tonto and Armie Hammer selected to play the Ranger . Then in August, Disney put a halt on the production with claims that the budget was too big. Just this week, negotiations ended on a happy note, with the production back in full swing and a tentative start date scheduled for early next year. MTV News caught up with Depp as he promoted “The Rum Diary” to find out why “Ranger” is so important to him and why the budget became such a big issue for the studio bigwigs. “I like the character. I think I have interesting plans for the character, and I think the film itself could be entertaining and very funny,” he said. “But also I like the idea of having the opportunity to make fun of the idea of the Indian as a sidekick — which has always been [the case] throughout the history of Hollywood, the Native American has always been a second-class, third-class, fourth-class citizen, and I don’t see Tonto that way at all.
