Denee Baptiste Sits For Intimate Interview With Cleo Speaks In a new episode of Cleo Speaks , due later this month, Beyoncé ‘s choreographer Denee Baptiste sits for a very candid interview. “Known for her stage work with Beyoncé, Denee Baptiste shares her journey as a mother, performer, dancer, motivational speaker and passion for inspiring young dancers to follow their dreams,”  a press release states. Baptiste also talks about how “hidden colorism” in the entertainment industry affected her as a kid and as she came up in the dance community. “Growing up it was very hard because I wasn’t typically the ‘pretty girl’,” she says in a sneak peek. “That came up a lot as I was going through the industry. I was very skinny, I was the darkest person sometimes auditioning, I wasn’t wearing weave, I wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup. I was going in very natural, very bare, and people were like ‘no.’” Watch her speak in the clip up top, then tune into CLEO TV on April 24 at 2:30 p.m. ET for the full episode.

Ryan Edwards Freed From Prison… Now What?!?

Free at last, free at last, Ryan Edwards is free at last. The former Teen Mom OG star was let go from jail on Monday, April 15, following a three-month stint that followed yet another drug-related arrest for the father of two. He is still facing a charge of theft and heroin possession and may end up behind bars at some point in the future if convicted… … but. for now, Maci Bookout's ex (and Mackenzie Standifer's husband) is back at home with his family. For the sake of his children, we really hope he remains there. Scroll down to get caught up on what landed Edwards in prison and where he might go from here: 1. I’m Out! Edwards was sentenced to spend three months behind bars after his arrest in December because he was related to an outstanding warrant. To be clear, this punishment was NOT a conviction. He may still stand trial and may still be sentenced to prison for his actual alleged crimes. 2. So This is Just Temporary? Yes, possibly. Tennessee’s Hamilton County Court confirmed to the public on Monday that the former Teen Mom star is no longer in custody. 3. What Were Those Alleged Crimes? Police took Edwards to Hamilton County Jail in Chattanooga in January for “theft of services under $1,000” from a December incident in which he reportedlt left a restaurant without paying is $36 bar tab. 4. That Sounds Very Petty Well, it was still an illegal act if it occurred. Moreover, Edwards was also booked for a heroin possession charge stemming from an outstanding warrant. So that’s the big one here. 5. On a Personal Level? That $36 charge was for six whiskey drinks — and Edwards has battled drinking and drug use over the years, so the situation just on the surface makes it clear things were not going well for Ryan. 6. He Has a Long History Edwards has struggled with addiction and drug dependency for many years. He was arrested for driving under the influence while on his way to his wedding to Mackenzie Standifer, 22, in May 2017. Yes, ON HIS WAY TO HIS WEDDING. View Slideshow

Wendy Williams Confronted Cheating Husband After Mistress Gave Birth!

Last week, talk show villain Wendy Williams filed to divorce her terrible husband , Kevin Hunter. Reports of his alleged cheating had been pouring in for ages, and it looks like her sobriety journey helped her make other changes in her life. Now we’re learning that the divorce only went down after Wendy confronted him about fathering a child with his mistress. People   reports that Wendy’s divorce is going down because she could no longer ignore Kevin’s antics. “The split is definitely due to Kevin’s ongoing infidelity,” an insider confirms. “And,” the source adds, due to the fact “that his mistress recently welcomed their child.” “Wendy had hired a private investigator,” the insider reveals. She got the facts first, the source explains, “and confronted him.” “He confessed to everything,” the insider notes, adding that this went down “three weeks ago.” The source explains: “All of the recent drama put a huge strain on Wendy.” Of course! Rumors are bad at any time, but especially when they’re true — and even more so when you’re in addiction recovery. All of this was a trigger for her, the insider explains, “and caused her to struggle with her sobriety.” She wrestled with her addiction, the source says, “as she did everything she could to try and save their marriage.” Even though it’s definitely the right move, apparently Wendy has really struggled with this choice. “The decision to split was terribly hard for her,” the insider expresses. “But,” the source notes. “She’s regaining her health.” Her health and general wellbeing matters more than any marriage. “She decided she needed to finally put herself first,” the insider reports. Wendy Williams’ representative released a much less informative statement about the divorce. “Thank you to everyone for respecting the family’s privacy during this time.” the statement began. The rep claimed that “Kevin is supportive of Wendy.” “And,” the statement continued. “They are working through this process together.” The statement concluded: “No additional comment will be provided at this time.” The Wendy Williams Show put out a statement affirming their appreciation of Wendy. “Wendy and her family have been a part of Debmar-Mercury for over 10 years,” the statement began. “We respect their privacy,” the show continued. “Regarding personal matters.” “As always,” the statement concluded. “We remain committed to bringing an entertaining and topical show to our viewers.” Wendy herself has taken shots at her cheating husband on her show. She has addressed the fact that her show has operated under the motto: “Their business is our business.” “It’s crazy ’cause now my business is your business,” Wendy pointed out. “It’s kind of funny,” she admitted. “Turnabout’s a fair game, I get it.” “I’m moving out of the sober house in just a few days, you know,” she revealed. “It’ll be Wendy on her own.” “I have to tell you, you know, I’ve been dealing with issues with addiction, alcoholism,” Wendy reminded her viewers. “And,” she revealed. “I have a whole new life that I planned for myself and my son,” “Believe me you,” Wendy expressed. “When you lay in a room with no TV and four gray walls all day …” She added: “this is my life in the sober house.” Not exactly the best advertisement, but Wendy says that it’s been good for her. “It’s one of the best things, honestly, that could have ever happened to me,” Wendy expressed. “Addressing my sobriety, my addiction, head-on has really helped me sort out every single compartment of my life,” Wendy announced. “I have a commitment to me and my son,” she affirmed. “To come out of here better, stronger, and faster than ever.” “And by the way, I will still commit,” she promised. “I commit that the motto of this show will always be, ‘Their business is our business.’” In other words, just because her personal life was laid bare doesn’t mean that she’s suddenly sensitive to the privacy desires of other public figures. People ‘s insider confirmed: “She’s ready to leave the sober living house and build a new life for her and her son.” View Slideshow: 24 Stars Who Have Been Cheated On

John David Duggar Likely Forced Wife to Stop Working, Because That’s What They Do

Abbie Burnett worked as a registered nurse when she met John David Duggar, the second-eldest son of Jim Bob and Michelle. She had dedicated her professional life to helping those in need, pretty much as admirable an occupation as one can possess. One would think John David and his loved ones would admire Abbie. One would think that they’d applaud her career and encourage her to pursue it in whatever way she wanted. One would think they’d even push her to advance far in the industry in order to help as many people as possible. But anyone who thinks this clearly is not familiar with the Duggars. Earlier this year, we reported that the family was actually unhappy that Burnett continued to work . Licensed in Oklahoma, Abbie was in the process of transferring that nursing license to Arkansas so that she could continue to work in her new home state. Fast forward about two months, however, and Burnett no longer has a job. Despite having gone to school for many years to serve patients as a nurse, she has decided to quit, which has led many Counting On viewers to wonder… … was this really her decision? During a recent episode of Counting On , Abbie seemed hesitant about stop working – and she didn’t rule out going back to the nursing profession someday. “I just love taking care of people. But I left my job a couple of months ago so that I could plan for the wedding,” she explained, elaborating as follows: “I do hope to go back to nursing one day, especially so I can keep up my license and my skills.” Admirable, right? (If you ignore the part that anyone would actually leave a job just to plan a wedding, which is bat$hit insane.) Time will tell if Burnett really does join the professional ranks at some point soon, but we’d be surprised if she were in a hurry. It seems nearly impossible to believe that John David isn’t pressuring her to remain at home and just churn out his babies. This is really all women are good for in the eyes of the Duggar family. We can’t think of a single female within the clan that has a job, can you? But we can think of quite a few that recently gave birth or who are currently pregnant. (Congrats to  Kendra and Joseph Duggar , by the way! And also Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald!) Indeed, while many Duggar fans may support these reality stars because they seem to value family and love and all the cliches that come along with it… let’s be real: Even the most ardent supporter must admit that the Duggars don’t exactly believe in female empowerment. View Slideshow: John David Duggar & Abbie Burnett: NO 1 CURR About Jim Bob’s Rules! And, look, we hope Abbie is happy after five months of marriage . We’re sure she’ll announce any minute now that she’s expecting and we’ll wish her all the best for a safe and relatively easy pregnancy/delivery. We just also hope she maintains a sense of autonomy while married. She’s still her own person and that person accomplished a great deal prior to meeting John David and exchanging vows. Never lose sight of who that person is, okay, Abbie? Stay strong. View Slideshow: John David Duggar: I Never Followed Courtship Rules Before Marriage, Bro!

AMC Stars Talk The Importance Of Diversity & Inclusion On TV At Network’s Summit

Source: Getty Images for AMC / Getty Images for AMC Stars From AMC, IFC & BBCAmerica & SundanceTV Gathered For Day Long Symposium On The Future Of Television Stars from popular shows like “Fear The Walking Dead,” “Sherman’s Showcase” and “Brockmire” spoke out about why it’s critical for Hollywood to continue to tell stories from diverse perspectives. The people behind the AMC Network’s slate of shows were in NYC this week for the AMC Network Summit, where they grappled with questions like “Who Gets To Tell The Stories in Hollywood?” in several panel discussions. The day-long convening at the Public Arts Hotel April 8 featured appearances by actress Sandra Oh of “Killing Eve,” Coleman Domingo of “Fear The Walking Dead,” “Star Trek’s” George Takei. Source: Getty Images for AMC / Getty Images for AMC Domingo, who also starred in “If Beale Street Could Talk,” said that box office blockbusters like “Black Panther” were successful because of their black casts and cultural references – and not in spite of them. “We all look back at Black Panther, which was epic – incredible storytelling, incredible heart, detailed, and human. And I think that’s why everyone responded to it in kind. To be that specific. I love how specific it was. Specifically very African-American, and very African as well. To trust that those stories are relatable to people of very different hues and backgrounds – because they’re just human stories.” For actress and comedian Tawny Newsome, of IFC’s “Brockmire,” television today has a level of inclusivity in it that means viewers from diverse backgrounds can finally see themselves on screen. Source: Getty Images for AMC / Getty Images for AMC “Now is finally the time when people like me are being talked about in terms that we use for ourselves, and we’re saying ‘Hey, I’m a disabled person,’ or ‘Hey I’m a Queer person,’ and these are the ways I like to talk about myself, and the ways I like to tell my story…It’s wild to see that half of the industry thinks of it as a time of censorship where I’m like ‘oh this is finally a time when I have space.’” And the star of IFC’s sketch comedy show “Sherman’s Showcase” Bashir Salahuddin said the need for diversity extends to behind the camera as well, and show writers need to have different perspectives. Source: Getty Images for AMC / Getty Images for AMC “You want to have a sense that the people [the writer’s room] are representing the people you’re talking about and are saying ‘we can make fun of ourselves about this,’” Salahuddin said. “It’s an immediate filter to make sure you’re making the right decisions and you’re not sitting here in a room full of people, making fun of another group of people who aren’t represented in that room.’”

Halsey is a Hooker of the Day

Halsey is full of shit….but people in LA seem to be drawn to bullshit stories…from their castles they live in, it’s like they are connecting with real people, something they crave in their industry…so they end up connecting with idiots like this…. She’s got this whole storyline of being a homeless drug addict, who was actually just a party girl who didn’t have an apartment and crashed on people’s floors… She eventually made it into the VIP room and connected with some DJs who she laid vocal tracks for and all of a sudden mattered.. But if that hadn’t worked out for her, she now says she considered sex work… Because – THAT IS JUST HOW LAZY THIS BITCH IS… She didn’t want a real job, and was willing to suck dick for money instead of geting a real job, with a schedule and hours and responsibility… I actually don’t even believe the story, a few months ago, she was all about being a black chick, cuz her dad is black apparently…and now she’s a homeless sex worker…. I mean it’s all nonsense marketing, gets people talking, and we know girls her age from Instagram…and know they are all fucking sex workers…that’s how they live without a job. Halsey was just lucky to get in with someone who could make her famous, sucking the right dick with her sex work, so that it isn’t even called sex work. I find this story ridiculous…but I also hate this lazy trash…and all it represents.. Here are some throwback pics of her being a hooker TO SEE MORE PICS OF HALSEY SUPPORTING HOMELESS HOOKERS CLICK HERE JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! How Taraji P. Henson Relates To ‘Best Of Enemies’ Character: You Always Feel Like You’re Fighting For Equality

See original here:

It’s undeniable that we are in tense times surrounding racism in the United States, so Taraji P. Henson ‘s new movie co-starring Sam Rockwell, titled The Best of Enemies may be exactly what we need. It tells the story of no nonense civil rights leader Ann Atwater and KKK President C.P. Ellis and the development of their friendship during the course of a charette to decide whether Durham schools should be desegregated in the 1950’s. Source: Derrick Salters/WENN.com / WENN HelloBeautiful had the opportunity to speak with Bill Riddick, who actually came to Durham from Raliegh to set up, organize and oversee the charette and encouraged Ann Atwater (played by Henson) and C.P. Ellis (played by Rockwell) to co-host it for full representation. Riddick discussed that a charette is designed to solve one specific problems, we joked during the interview that we need a charette right now in the United States. Henson was passionate about playing Atwater who was undeniably a strong character, “She was up against all these men, all these powerful men.” If you wonder how Henson was able to channel this for the character, she added, “I feel like that in this industry.” Rockwell stated he read the script and knew that this was an important film to make. As someone who has seen the film (and actually lived in Durham for four years), I highly recommend it. You’ll walk out feeling hopeful for a new future and re-energized to make change. Disrupt Harlem Code Squad Shows The Power Of Culturally Competent Tech Programs

See the original post here:

T hree days out of the week Amantina Sosa would wake up before the sun rose to prepare for an early morning shift at Starbucks. Following her barista shift Sosa—a Bronx native—would hop on the train and rush from the Midtown Starbucks location to Harlem to participate in a tech and entrepreneurship program designed for underserved adults. Prior to getting involved with the program, she says she would have never considered pursuing a career in tech, and now she’s on a path to creating her own app. “I didn’t think that I could pursue tech as a career,” she said. “This program made me see that tech wasn’t something that was far in reach.” For Sosa, the early mornings and long days were worth it because she knew she was investing in her future. Like Sosa, many underserved young adults in New York City, have struggled to forge their own paths due to the lack of access and exposure to career readiness resources. Disrupt Harlem Code Squad—a Harlem-based free 16-week program designed to empower adults between the ages of 18 and 24 to step into entrepreneurship and expose them to career pathways in tech—is aiming to change that narrative. Participants learn how to code, experience what it’s like to work at tech companies first-hand through field trips, and receive ongoing mentorship from tech leaders and entrepreneurs. Students are placed on teams and work on creating their own digital projects which are presented before a panel of judges on Demo Day. The program has proven to be nothing short of impactful. A lot of the participants in the 2018 cohort say that being a part of Disrupt Harlem has given them a strong sense of purpose and inspired them to further their entrepreneurial endeavors. For many of the students representation was key; seeing themselves reflected in their instructors and mentors had a positive influence. “It really showed me that technology is a driving force in everything,” said participant Aniya Carter . Carter, a recent college grad, has always had a passion for entrepreneurship and says that Disrupt Harlem Code Squad provided her with the foundation to build her own business. For her Demo Day project, she created a platform called Jigsaw which helps connect job seekers and employers. “It was a great experience. It was encouraging to see that everyone looked like me. It was run by Black people and the students were Black which was motivating.” Like Carter, program participant Mark Farrel hopes to be at the helm of his own business within the next few years. Farrel—who worked at Bloomingdale’s while participating in Disrupt Harlem Code Squad—has always been passionate about pursuing a career in fashion. The Harlemite says the program has shown him how he can merge fashion and technology. “It became my safe haven. Prior to this, I didn’t have a support system,” Farrel told NewsOne. “It caters to individuals who aren’t taking the traditional educational route. It showed me how I can disrupt the fashion industry through technology.” Farrel and his team created an app called CopIt which gives you details about a piece of clothing by taking a photo. He says he wants to continue to learn more about front-end and back-end development and hopes to become an app developer in the future. There is a need for culturally sensitive entrepreneurship and tech education programs for young adults in inner-city communities. Ones that are understanding of the daily struggles that they face and can provide guidance and show them how to overcome them. “DHCS provides a holistic approach to educating young adults. We don’t just teach the tech skills needed to enter the industry, but also what’s traditionally considered soft skills. Things like emotional intelligence and networking are key in developing a successful career,” said Program Director Philomena Boateng . “Over the course of the program, our students have grown as not only entrepreneurs and tech professionals. We often say our network is our net worth and they’ve truly taken steps to meet new people and jumpstart their careers.” DHCS is gearing up for its next cohort and plans on continuing to make an impact in the lives of young adults of color in New York City.
