DMC, Pete Rock & Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Recall Working With The Notorious B.I.G.

See more here:

The Notorious B.I.G. worked with a ton of people during his brief career ranging from Michael Jackson to Mary J. Blige .  Vibe.com reached out to several of Biggie’s collaborators to get their thoughts on working with one of hip-hop’s greats. Brooklyn Residents Remember Biggie Fourteen Years Later WBW Honors: Booker T. Washington WBW Honors: Medgar Evers Biggie kicked off disc two of his second album, Life After Death , with “Notorious Thugs.” The song paired Biggie with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony . Layzie Bone: “Puffy called us and said, ‘BIG want y’all on a record.’ We are like, ‘Hell yeah…we coming.’ We end up being in the studio with Biggie all night. We did all of our verses and then BIG was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to take this home.’ When BIG went home we did not hear that record until after he passed.” Flesh-N-Bone: “Hearing Biggie do our style was incredible. I understood why he had to take it home and study it for a minute. He put his own spin on our Bone flow.” Krayzie Bone: “It was bitter sweet. Biggie ripped it but we didn’t have the opportunity to tell him how much he ripped it. He came out and did his thing on the song to where he put another notch under his belt because our style is not easy to where you can just say, ‘I’m going to rap like these dudes.’ Especially back then when we were first coming out. For a New York rapper to do our style was a risk. But when he did it that n*gga killed it. New York showed us a lot of love off of that record. ‘Notorious Thugs’ and ‘Crossroads’ are the only songs they played in NYC by Bone. It was Bone and Biggie.” Hip-hop nerds know that Pete Rock was robbed of inspired the beat for “Juicy.”  Pete gives the lowdown on the situation: Pete Rock: “Due to people just doing business a new way and me being young and not understanding the publishing side of things, I let certain things fall through the cracks [when it came to ‘Juicy’]. Puffy came over with Big and I had the drums playing and Puff was interested in what he heard. He asked me if I was making it for CL Smooth and I was like, ‘Nah.’ Big was standing there, but he was more interested in seeing how I made beats. He was requesting certain interlude beats. He was like, ‘I want this song you put between these two songs on your album.’ I made this beat called ‘In The Flesh’ that was on the Main Ingredient album. And I made that beat in front of Biggie. He was like, ‘Oh sh*t…I just wanted to see how you did it, son.’ He was bugging. But Biggie wasn’t even interested in ‘Juicy.’ Next thing you know, ‘Juicy’ comes out and I don’t get credit. I really felt a way about it after Big passed away. We didn’t get to have the relationship that Premier had with him. I had a lot of music for Big, but it just didn’t happen.” DMC of Run DMC appeared on Big’s final album on the song “My Downfall,” which was inspired by an old DMC lyric. DMC: “When I got asked to do a record with Biggie, I was shocked. I got a phone call from Puffy and my manager Eric like, ‘Puffy is looking for you.’ I’m like, ‘Puffy???’ Why the hell is Puffy looking for me for? I don’t dance and I don’t drink Cristal…I drink Ole English [laughs].’ But Puffy calls and says, ‘Yo, Biggie wants you on his chorus. He doesn’t want to sample your voice.’ Biggie thought my line, ‘That’s not all, MC’s have the gall, to pray and pray for my downfall’ was dope. A lot of the really lyrical MC’s like Biggie, Rakim, and Freddie Fox told me, ‘Yo, D…you wasn’t that dude that had to have three 16 bars of fire. You would have one or two statements that could shut motherf*ckers up.’ So I go to Puff’s Daddy’s House studios to meet producer Nashiem [Myrick]. When I finished my part, I was soupped! I’m a humble dude, but I was f*cking soupped because Biggie was huge. Of all the people Biggie could have called Big Daddy Kane or Slick Rick. But he called me. When I spoke to Puff he told me, ‘Imagine Biggie is doing a show and goes, I got a surprise guest for you…a legend!’ And I come out. That would be getting hits on YouTube right now! But unfortunately Biggie passed away, so we never got the chance to perform [‘Pray For My Down Fall’] together. Still, I got to make a record with Biggie Smalls. It was an honor to do that record.” Read more remembrances of Big from Faith Evans, Jadakiss, and Sheek Louch at Vibe.com ! Teyana Taylor’s Has A New Gig And… Doesn’t Like That We Think She’s Famous For No Reason

We watched Teyana Taylor turn 16, put out the single “Google Me”, pursue acting and hang with her crew. She has always been labeled as being famous for no reason and maybe that’s because no one has ever been clear on what exactly she does or even wants to do. In a recent interview with Edge magazine, Teyana speaks on the fame, her style and her career. “It gets really hard because people don’t really know what’s happening on the inside of things. People can be so cruel and not even know your situation and not want get to know”, she says in her soft spoken and perfectly raspy tone. This transparency and softer side may shock many who know Taylor as the Jordan wearing, opinionated skateboarder chick whose big hair and unique style is being copied by young girls everywhere. But the sincerity in her vulnerability is magnetic. “I’m a piece of work and I am certainly one of a kind, I know for sure that I am”, she says, “but I honestly can care less about this industry. I just do what I love”. In her confidence is also knowledge of the power she has as a role model for young girls that need a place in this world to feel accepted. She speaks for a large part of the new generation of young women who simply want to be who they are but fear no one will understand. When talking about her responsibility to the girls coming after her, Taylor’s speaks with the wisdom of a veteran twice her age. “I want to inspire young people, with everything I do. Even through my style”, she says, “if you can change the world or just change lives directly, why not go for it? If I can encourage kids to be themselves and to be cool with being different that’s what I’m going to do. I have a responsibility to try to change as much as I can.” “Before I got signed I was a skateboarder and I played basketball. I gave it up for my career because the label saw a lot of danger in it. I wanted to do something so that I could still have basketball in my life and as a fan I wanted to know more about players”. Her small gesture to remain close to the sport she loves turned into a 100,000 strong following in just one week, a number that she hadn’t planned for. “The site kept crashing”, she says with a raspy laugh, “we didn’t build the site for those kind of numbers. But we’ve been back for almost three weeks and we’ve already gotten almost all of our traffic back…. it’s good to know people didn’t forget about it”. Lindsay Lohan Showing Some Nipple of the Day

Anyone who’s been reading this site the last 6 years knows I love Lindsay Lohan. She entertains me whether she’s out doing heroin or fucking Samantha Ronson dick like it was a pussy or being used by everyone around her for their personal gain – she’s all round awesome… Some days I only tweet to her and get ignored. Back in the day I left her phone messages of love and got ignored. I’ve even hung out with her in an erotic setting years ago….and got ignored. I like to think it is her way of flirting…. Like this is her way of getting noticed. She knows how it works. She knows the industry. She knows her tits are her best friend. She is obvious, clever, and pretty much put it all out there already, making this tame and obvious, but a good start in the right direction for me… I’m sold. I love these full always and forever, amazing tear drop implants. They look so authentic and never get old…. Yay to Lohan my internet girlfriend who denies our internet love.

Roots Host Genre-Spanning, Star-Studded Pre-Grammy Jam Session

Ne-Yo, Sara Bareilles, Chaka Khan were among the many notable artists who took the stage on Saturday at the funk collective’s annual bash. By Kelly Marino Jimmy Fallon with the Roots at their Pre-Grammy Jam Session in Hollywood on Saturday. Photo: Getty Images HOLLYWOOD, California — On Saturday night, the eve of the 53rd Grammy Awards, the Roots were unstoppable, unpredictable and unprecedented as they took the stage to perform their seventh annual Pre-Grammy Jam Session. But to call the event just a jam session would be quite the understatement. Similar to the years prior, the Roots played for hours on end, covering every genre of music from the blues to hip-hop to funk and rock and roll while inviting fellow musician friends — both old school and new — onstage. “Every Jam Session you expect the unexpected,” explained drummer ?uestlove when MTV News caught up with him just before his band took the stage. “We invited a whole bunch of people down and we are going to see how good our memory banks are when they start putting us on the spot and asking us for their songs.” For the first time, the Roots decided to switch up locations, leaving the Key Club behind in favor of Hollywood’s Music Box club. The venue provided a larger space for more fans and celebrities, such as Drew Barrymore, Juliette Lewis and Craig Robinson, who opted to attend this more laidback event rather than the exclusive Clive Davis Pre-Grammy party taking place close by. Just a few minutes before midnight, Roots pal/boss Jimmy Fallon appeared onstage sitting solo in a stool, doing his best Neil Young impersonation as he sang the lyrics to Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” — a hilarious skit he’s been known to do on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” Upon finishing, he welcomed the audience to the event and urged everyone to get excited as the Roots made their entrance. Check out photos of Jimmy Fallon’s performance at the Roots’s Jam Session. “My show has been on for two years now and it wouldn’t be where it is today without these guys,” Fallon gushed as he and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter suddenly broke into a rendition of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” while the crowd cheered. Shortly after the comical warm-up, Fallon exited the stage and the Roots kicked things off with some of their known tracks — “Going On,” “How I Got Over” and “Here I Come.” Next to appear was 10-time Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin. Black Thought praised the “Don’t Worry Be Happy” singer as a “funk percussionist” while he free-styled and skittle-le-bopped around stage. Roughly around 12:30 a.m., Sarah Bareilles joined the unpredictable set list, seeming to take the crowd by surprise. But once the pop songstress started singing “Son of a Preacher Man,” the audience quickly took to her soulful side. The Roots then introduced Guy Sebastian, a soulful singer from Australia whose recent blooper clip as a judge on the “X Factor” was made famous when ?uestlove remixed it on “Late Night.” As the show went on, with the crowd seeming to grow from 300 to 500 people, the Roots began to introduce some of old-school performers. Chuck Brown, a.k.a. the Godfather of Go-Go, came out in full funk getup and busted out with the classic “Bustin’ Loose.” Young Chris performed two songs, including “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.” Too Short made an appearance and treated the crowd to “Blow the Whistle,” while blues legend Taj Mahal, Lalah Hathaway, Booker T. Jones and Betty Wright all added a little something to this incredible night. And while the audience certainly was grooving to these performers, things really perked up when Black Thought called up to the stage the “Queen Diva” herself, Chaka Khan. Cameras were clicking and phones were held in the air while the R&B legend sang “Tell Me Something Good.” In between acts, the Roots never forgot to steer the focus back to themselves, as they mixed things up by providing solo sessions throughout the night. One bandmember who never disappoints is metal maniac Captain Kirk Douglas, who ripped through his guitar solos while giving the audience a taste of some rock and roll classics like Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” George Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone” and Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love?” Even at 2 a.m., guests continued to roll onto the stage. Estelle , Ne-Yo, Ryan Leslie and Melanie Fiona all performed hit after hit after hit. And while there didn’t seem to be an end to the Roots’ jam session, fans didn’t seem to mind one bit. While most of the industry was giving it a rest with music’s biggest night less than 24 hours away, attendees of this bash were rewarded for their stamina. ?uestlove needn’t have worried — the Roots proved that their memory banks were well up to par. Will Eminem Or Justin Bieber Rule The Grammys? Oddsmakers Weigh In

Ladbrokes and Bodog both like Em and Bieber’s chances on Sunday night. By James Montgomery Eminem Photo: Getty Images The 53rd annual Grammy Awards air Sunday from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and while most will be tuning in to see if Eminem can capitalize on his industry-leading 10 nominations or catch Lady Gaga performing “Born This Way” for the first time, we’ll be watching to see how all our bets panned out. See, we love gambling nearly as much as we love the Grammys (and that’s a lot ), and, with the big show just a few days away, we figured it was time to place our bets in the Big Four categories: Album, Record and Song of the Year, plus Best New Artist. And to help insure our wagering success, we’ve once again gone to two of the best oddsmakers in the universe — Ladbrokes and Bodog — to get their take on music’s biggest night. And, strangely, their picks sort of mirrored our own opinions : They both see a big night for Eminem. But unlike us , they also see Justin Bieber hoisting the hardware. And, really, who are we to disagree? After all, they’re professionals. So here, for your last-minute wagering, are Ladbrokes’ and Bodog’s odds for the 2011 Grammy Awards. Ladbrokes “The odds reflect the sensational musical year we’ve had, which makes our jobs considerably harder. When it comes to arriving at our conclusions, personal tastes do come into play, but our main job is predicting public sentiment and where we think the money will go,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Donohue said. “Some of the categories look like they have nailed-on winners — namely Eminem and Jay Z and Alicia Keys — whereas others are much closer. The quality of the short list means we can’t rule anyone out, and we’d expect one or two surprises along the way.” Album of the Year

Rihanna And Drake Set To Heat Up The Grammys

The hitmakers’ first live awards-show performance together should be stylish, sexy affair. By Mawuse Ziegbe Rihanna and Drake Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Rihanna and Drake will team up to rock the Grammy stage on Sunday night, but while both have stayed mum about the show, if previous performances — and their obvious chemistry — are any indication, these two will likely bring some hip-hop and R&B-tinged heat. In 2010, Rihanna circled the world on her Last Girl on Earth Tour , vamping it up in sharp-shouldered, leg-baring bodysuits and straddling bubblegum-colored tanks. A Rihanna show, however, isn’t always a m

Brooklyn Decker’s Ugly Face Doesn’t Matter in a Bikini of the Day

I guess the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition is about to hit, cuz they are on the promotional kick, which involves releasing pictures of bitches in bikinis who are meant to be in bikinis, cuz they fill them out the way bikinis are meant to be filled out, but all I see is Brooklyn Decker, a bitch who definitely has the tits for the job, but a face that looks like it was run through “Photobooth” on her mac. All inbred and retarded and shit, and sure that can be ignored when she’s half naked and showing her huge tits….I blame her marrying Andy Roddick, cuz his people are probably the best in the industry when it comes to sports management and sports agents, the kind of people who probably have Sports Illustrated by the fucking balls….which whould explain all the play she gets…unless people have a think for inbred retard looking bitches…which is possible…

Janet Jackson Speaks On Struggles With Appearance And Relationship With Father Joe Jackson: “I Felt Very Unattractive”

Wow and this is coming from one of the most beautiful women in the industry pre and post plastic surgery: In an exclusive interview with TODAY’s Meredith Viera, Janet Jackson reveals that her struggles with her body image were once so severe, “I would literally bang my head up against the wall because I didn’t feel attractive. … There was a lot of pain in my life. But I did. I felt very unattractive,” Jackson said. The singer/actress writes about the incident in her new book “True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself,” saying that she’s better off now than when she was in her 20s, and “Rhythm Nation” was topping the charts. “I still have issues with it. I don’t bang my head up against the wall, but I still have those moments. And I think it’ll probably continue but at least I know how to deal with it now. And I’m in a much better space,” she told Viera. The issues Jackson had might stem back to how she was treated by her brothers, including Michael, who had nicknames for her like “Horse, pig, cow, slaughter-hog,” she said.” “It makes you laugh, it really does. It makes you laugh. I guess some people could say, ‘Oh that’s, you know, brothers and sisters joking, it’s all affection, it’s all, you know, it’s in a loving way.’ But not everybody can brush it off, and I was one of those,” she said. In the interview, Jackson also opens up about her father Joe, saying she wasn’t to ever call him dad. “He said, ‘I’m Joseph to you. You do not call me dad.’ That affects you as a kid … I know my father loves me. He just has a very, very different way of showing it.” Check out more of the interview on TODAY on Friday and on Dateline on Sunday, Feb. 13. Damn, we know siblings can be mean and hateful to each other when growing up, but slaughter-hog???? That’s taking name calling to a whole different level. Poor Janet. Source
