On Warning Shots 3: One Foot in the Grave, Sai focuses on street-bred raps. By Rob Markman Saigon Photo: Saigon Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Mixtape : Warning Shots 3: One Foot in the Grave Headliner : Saigon Real Spit: Now that Saigon has finally told his greatest story, the hard-nosed rap spitter has returned to bust more shots. After almost five years of delays, Giddy dropped his debut The Greatest Story Never Told in February 2011, and he’s not letting up with Warning Shots 3: One Foot in the Grave, his newest mixtape released on January 24. Hosted by multiplatinum producer Just Blaze, WS3 opens with a bang. “BBB (Real N—as Never Die)” samples Buju Banton’s 1992 reggae classic “Boom Bye Bye” and launches a full-scale attack on fashion-forward MCs, focusing his energy on street-bred raps instead. “I rather hear a n—a lying on firing glocks/ Than to have to hear a n—a rhyme about designer socks.” The onslaught continues on “I Am 4 Real,” the tape’s first single, and on the Lil’ Fame-assisted “Another Man Down.” On the latter, Sai twists Rihanna’s “Man Down” vocals for the song’s murderous hook and shares a perfect chemistry with M.O.P.’s Fame. In underground rap circles, Giddy’s original Warning Shots is heralded as a classic. On the third installment of the series, Sai revisits “Come Again,” a track that appeared on WS in 2004. The beat on “Come Again 2012” is the same, but the flow is upgraded. Trading his New York slang for a Caribbean patois, the Yardfather goes in spitting: “Lickle Saigon, what are you doin’ back here/ They said you were supposed to retire last year/ Tell ’em don’t believe everything that you hear/ 2012 things finna get clear.” It’s not all chest-pounding on WS3, however. With “Women Are the New Dogs,” Sai shows a different side as he slows things down. He’s not exactly heartbroken, but Giddy raps somberly, realizing that he may not be able to trust the fairer sex. Over the course of the 19-track mixtape, Saigon shows resiliency. His oft-delayed debut album may have been stalled due to label changes and industry politics, but through it all he has persevered. Reese Witherspoon tries to decide between the two secret agents in a brand-new clips. By Kevin P. Sullivan Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hardy in “This Means War” Photo: 20th Century Fox It takes only two short clips from “This Means War” to show you exactly what kind of movie it is. On one hand you have a woman, played by Reese Witherspoon , torn between two men she genuinely likes. It’s nothing that far out of line with what you expect from your average romantic comedy. On the other hand, you have the influence of McG and two of Hollywood’s top action stars, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine , playing her love interests and secret-agent best buddies. Things, as you can imagine, get a little messy. As part of “MTV First: This Means War” , we debuted two new clips from “This Means War,” and they both give a very good taste of what’s in store in the movie that hits theaters on Valentine’s Day. The first finds Pine’s character, FDR, crashing a date between Hardy’s Tuck and Lauren, played by Witherspoon. Lauren goes to the bathroom to collect herself after the surprise encounter, while back out in the restaurant, the former best friends use every ounce of their professional training to beat the crap out of each, destroying the restaurant in the process. The other clip takes on a much more relaxed tone, showing off the lighter side of the movie. Lauren confides in her best friend, Trish, played by Chelsea Handler, and attempts to make a decision between the two suitors. Unbeknownst to her, both FDR and Tuck listen in. One of the biggest discoveries you’ll make this year — and one of this fall’s class of neophyte Oscar contenders — is 22-year-old Elizabeth Olsen . The younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley may have earned her first credits as a child actor in her siblings’ tween franchise-building movies, but she launches her very serious film career this October in the Sundance award-winning Martha Marcy May Marlene , Sean Durkin’s deeply observed drama-thriller about a shell-shocked young woman (Olsen) who reunites with her family after spending years under the influence of a sexually-abusive cult.
Rodney King has been charged with misdemeanor DUI, according to reports. Stemming from his arrest July 12 in Riverside County, Calif., King was charged after officers claim they witnessed Rodney committing “multiple infractions.” Police eventually suspected he was under the influence and arrested him. King told CNN he was under the influence of a “medical marijuana prescription.” Rodney King was added to our celebrity mugshots gallery shortly thereafter. If convicted, the famous police brutality victim whose beating at the hands of four cops sparked the early ’90s L.A. riots could be facing some serious jail time. He has a prior DUI and other incidents with the law on his record.
As a one-time witch, Christine O’Donnell should watch who she calls “creepy.” America’s favorite ultraconservative princess/occult dabbler continues to make the media rounds to promote her new book, hitting Today this morning. In response to questions about walking out on Piers Morgan earlier this week, she called out the CNN host and his line of “inappropriate” questioning. Christine O’Donnell Ad According to O’Donnell, it was Piers’ “very inappropriate, creepy line of questioning” that featured “sex questions that he would not ask of a man.” We disagree. If a male politician made railing against gay marriage and masturbating a centerpiece of his platform. Piers would probably bring it up. Furthermore, Piers’ questions all covered topics in her book Trouble Maker , which she was there to promote. She didn’t like them, so she peaced out. No, not on a broom.
In what may have been a slight exaggeration, Anthony Bourdain referred to celebrity chef Paula Deen this was as the worst, most dangerous person in America . What does Deen have to say about the No Reservations host in response? “Anthony Bourdain needs to get a life,” she told The New York Post . “You don’t have to like my food, or Rachael’s, Sandra’s and Guy’s. But it’s another thing to attack our character. I wake up every morning happy for where I am in life. It’s not all about the cooking, but the fact that I can contribute by using my influence to help people all over the country. In the last two years, my partners and I have fed more than 10 million hungry people by bringing meat to food banks.” Deen added that Bourdain has contributed nothing to society, aside from “being irritable.” Fighting words, folks!
