Enough is enough with this foolishness. A Brooklyn teen died from his injuries last night nearly two weeks after he was chased down by a mob of 10 young men who punched, stomped and bashed him with a bicycle, police said. Johnny Santiago, 17, was beaten on an East New York streetcorner in what police sources described as a gang feud. The June 6 attack left him brain dead. He passed away at Brookdale University Hospital yesterday, police said. Santiago lived in East New York. He had gang ties and a short rap sheet of collars for serious crimes – robbery and weapons possession, the sources said. His family could not be reached Friday night. Police got a 911 call about 10:30 p.m. on June 6 for an assault in progress near the corner of Van Siclen and Wortman Aves. It is an area notorious for gang activity, the sources said. Detectives are investigating Santiago’s death, but the motive for the vicious gang beatdown was not revealed last night. The cause of Santiago’s death has yet to be determined. There have been no arrests. How does the police department know that this young man was beaten by 10 men, specifically, but have made no arrests? Either way another life has been lost to nonsense. In part two of our ‘Seattle Sonics’ series, the band takes us to their Sip & Ship ‘nerve center’ and American Music shop. By James Montgomery Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla and Jason McGerr Photo: MTV News SEATTLE — Chris Walla is a bit of a multitasker: That much is clear just by his rather prodigious output as a producer, solo musician and full-time member of Death Cab for Cutie . So it should probably come as no surprise that, for MTV News’ second edition of “Seattle Sonics,” Walla decided to take us to one of his favorite spots in Seatown: Sip & Ship, the kind of place that defines multitasking. See, S&S is the sort of place that seemingly only exists in Seattle: A communal, cozy combination shipping depot/coffee bar that also happens to be a gift shop. Oh, and they make a mean grilled cheese, too. Located in the city’s Ballard neighborhood — right down the block from a nefarious FedEx Office outpost — Walla first visited the shop six years ago (after a rather terrible experience at said FedEx), and in the time since, Sip & Ship has become the de facto home office for all things Death Cab. Merch, master tapes of albums, musical instruments and the occasional eBay purchase all pass through S&S. Walla has become close friends with the shop’s owners (one of them, Diana Naramore, even made a cameo in his “Sing Again” video ) and the coffee’s really great, too. “This place has become a communications and shipping and caffeine and calorie hub without which I don’t think Death Cab for Cutie would actually be able to do any business at all. This is one of the Seattle nerve centers of the band,” Walla explained. “We did a whole series of test-pressings for the new record, and we got four or five shipments of them here. We’d pick ’em up and then go home and listen to records.” Drummer Jason McGerr also chimed in: “It’s a far safer bet than my doorstep — which I don’t even step on all that often,” he said, laughing. And while Sip & Ship has been an important cog in the Death Cab machine for six years, there’s another spot nearby that’s been part of their lives for much longer: American Music, a Seattle institution since it first opened its doors in 1973 and the place where local bands (you know, like Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains) went to get their gear. It’s not surprising that both Walla — who grew up nearby — and McGerr — who worked there in 1994, when he was 19 years old — chose it as the next place they took our cameras. “I traded all my paychecks for equipment, and I got to know a whole lot of local drummers,” McGerr said from his old post behind the American counter. “And there were times, 10 minutes before close, Dave Grohl would come in and sit down and just start blowing on drums and the front door would shut and we’d sit there and watch him. … There was always a scene happening within the store. If you played music and you got your supplies in Seattle, it was from American Music.” And American was also where you’d find Walla hanging out as a slightly awkward teenager, doing “double drummer stuff” with friend (and former Death Cab drummer) Nathan Good. And he did it mostly out of necessity, because back then, there weren’t many places 15-year-old music obsessives could hang out, due mostly to Seattle’s oppressive Teen Dance Ordinance , which made all-ages shows all but impossible to organize. And, really, to Walla, that’s what makes the place much more than a music store. It’s sort of his home away from home. “I got a lot of stuff here that was cast-off junk, but I still use it,” Walla said. “There are tons of music stores that are just enormous boxes, that are full of guitars and drums and cymbals and whatever, and they might have more stock than a place like American does, but American has the heart and soul of a music store that I want when I walk into a music store.” Death Cab for Cutie: Seattle Sonics continues all week on MTVNews.com. On Thursday, we’ll head to a vaunted (and now defunct) all-ages venue where DCFC learned how to be a band — and still made it home in time for curfew. Singer reportedly suffered a broken jaw, fractured wrist, water in lungs in jet-ski crash. By Gil Kaufman Sean Kingston Photo: Getty After entering a hospital on Sunday with critical injuries from a personal watercraft crash, singer, Sean Kingston is now expected to make a full recovery from his injuries. CNN , citing two unnamed sources close to Kingston, reported that the injuries sustained in the crash should take around six weeks to heal. The sources told the news network that the “Beautiful Girls” singer suffered a broken jaw, a fractured wrist and water in his lungs. The last update from Kingston’s label, Epic Records, reported that he was in “critical but stable condition” in a Miami hospital on Tuesday. His rep also told MTV News that Kingston , 21, is “aware of what is going on around him” and that he was “sedated but fully conscious.” On Sunday, Kingston and a female passenger crashed his Sea Doo jet ski into the Palm Island Bridge at approximately 6 p.m. ET. After being rescued by an off-duty Coast Guard employee, the pop star was taken to the trauma center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, but has since been moved to the intensive care unit. TMZ spoke to Kingston’s rescuer, who said that Sean was “puking up blood out of his mouth.” Another witness told the site he noticed a gash under Kingston’s chin after the crash. Cassandra Sanchez, 23, Sean’s friend and passenger on the jet ski at the time of the accident, has since been discharged from the hospital, Kingston’s rep confirmed. Sanchez told TMZ that Kingston tried to turn away from the bridge but was going “really fast” and couldn’t avoid the crash. Sanchez also said that as Kingston was maneuvering toward the bridge, she urged him to stop and screamed out, “We can’t fit under there! Are we going to try and go under there? Sean, stop!” Sanchez told TMZ on Tuesday that she had no plans to press charges against Kingston over the crash. “I know this whole thing was just an accident,” she said. “I won’t be pressing any type of charges or hiring a lawyer. Sean is a good guy.” CNN reported that Kingston had bought the jet ski just days before the accident, as he prepared to move into a new house in Miami. An eyewitness said Sean’s life vest fell off during the crash, which caused him to sink below the water. “They were calling us over, telling us, ‘He’s drowning, he’s drowning,’ ” witness Carmen Rivera told CNN. “We jumped in the water to help him keep his head above water,” friend Jimmy Vega added. “I pushed him up, and he was vomiting what seemed like water, and then there was some blood coming out,” Jonathan Rivera said. Rapper Trav, whose new song “Up and Down” features Kingston, told CNN he visited his friend in the hospital on Monday and said Sean was “very responsive.” Send your well wishes to Kingston by leaving a comment below. At the time of her passing , Elizabeth Taylor may have possessed the most elegant jewelry collection on the planet. So, what will happen to a set that’s been valued at over $150 million? Sources tell People it will likely go to auction at Christie’s in New York. “She had the most amazing eye,” says Peter Sedghi, President/CEO of Luxury Jewels in Beverly Hills. “When you would show her stones, she would tell you the origin, if it’s good quality, bad quality, where it came from.” Taylor collected all kinds of stones, but she had a unique place in her heart for diamonds. They dated back to her life as an iconic actress. “The studios, in order to make her happy, they’d always give her jewelry,” says friend Lorraine Schwartz. “She grew up collecting it. People always gave her gifts… it was something that she learned to love.” Among the star’s most treasured items? A 69-carat Taylor-Burton diamond, purchased for over $1 million; and a 33-carat Krupp diamond, given to her by fifth husband, Richard Burton.
Following their Sunday night arrest , all three participants in last week’s Teen Mom 2 -based brawl – Jenelle Evans, Britany Truett and Brittany Maggard – have all been officially charged with disorderly conduct. They could all face 60 days in prison. But Evans’ attorney, Dustin Sullivan, has already come up with a defense for his perpetually troubled client. He tells TMZ there’s a “serious problem” and it’s that Truett, the victim in the brawl, “was paid substantially” for the photos of her injuries and the video that has circulated online. Why were there multiple cameras present when Jenelle arrived at Britany’s house? Why did Truett wait five days to call the cops? Sullivan finds these issues “highly suspicious” and is in the process of interviewing witnesses. He believes Evans has been set up in some way and will take that argument to the jury if the case proceeds. Of course, none of that changes two facts: Evans threw the first punch and Evans jumped on Truett and continued to pummel her into a pulp, long after Britany had stopped fighting back.

‘The last thing I remembered was … going, ‘Oh, God,’ ‘ Christopher Tierney tells CBS 2 News of his 30-foot fall onstage. By Terri Schwartz Natalie Mendoza poses with “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” lead actor Reeve Carney Photo: Bruce Glikas/ FilmMagic After several weeks of intense press coverage, two of the injured stars of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” have spoken out. Christopher Tierney, who was injured on December 20 after he fell a reported 30 feet, was released from the intensive care unit of Bellevue Hospital Tuesday and has been staying in a rehab facility since. CBS 2 News was the first to interview the dancer and stunt double in a package set to air Monday night (January 3). “I was falling and then I saw once I hit the darkness of the stage I had to just turn it real quick so I wasn’t going to fall on my head and crash on my back,” Tierney recalled. “The last thing I remembered was like, uh, just going, ‘Oh, God.’ ” Because Tierney, 32, was able to pivot his body from the headfirst fall so he landed on his right side, he prevented a potentially fatal injury. Still, the accident resulted in a hairline skull fracture, four broken ribs, a bruised lung, internal bleeding and three cracked vertebrae. Tierney underwent back surgery December 22 and wore a full-torso brace as he conducted the interview. But Tierney was only one of four “Spider-Man” actors hurt during the preview performances of the show. Natalie Mendoza, the lead actress who played villain Arachne, was hit on the head with a rope during the show’s first preview performance and suffered a serious concussion. After she was unable to resume her role due to aftereffects of the injury, it was rumored Mendoza would leave the show. The actress made her departure official when she released a statement on Thursday. “It has been a difficult decision to make, but I regret that I am unable to continue on ‘Spider-Man’ as I recover from my injury. I wish Julie [Taymor, the director] and the cast and crew every success with this production,” she said. Taymor responded, ” Natalie is a talented performer. “We’ve appreciated her contributions to the show and we wish her all the best.” On Saturday, the head of Actors’ Equity Association (which represents many of the actors), Nick Wyman, took to his Facebook account to explain his perspective on the injuries. His statement was a response against those who blamed Actor’s Equity for the injuries sustained by the actors, defending the organization by saying that “our staff spent so much time at Foxwoods Theatre during rehearsals, I’m surprised the producers didn’t charge them rent. I have no idea how many potential problems staff cleared up or how many accidents-in-waiting they forestalled; I just know they were and are a powerful force for our protection and without them, the news from the Foxwoods Theater might have been much worse.” He added, “I have been very disturbed and distraught by the serious injuries sustained by our member Chris Tierney at the December 20th performance of ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.’ … That Chris is not the first actor, nor the second, but rather the fourth to be injured on ‘Spider-Man’ is frustrating and maddening and, to some, infuriating.” A spokesperson for “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment at press time.

Ann Stanczyk had a Black Friday she'll never forget – the 49-year-old Queens woman says she was humiliated and beaten by two NYPD cops in a dispute over dog droppings. Pictures taken by her son a day after the Nov. 26 incident show Stanczyk with a welt under one eye and a garish purple bruise on her breast, plus injuries to her hands and knee. Yesterday, the Polish immigrant filed a complaint with the Civilian Complaint Review Board and plans to sue. “I just doing it to protect other people from police brutality,” Stanczyk told the Daily News. “I don't want what happened to me happen to anyone else. I want to protect the others. If it can happen to me it can happen to other people.” Stanczyk, a married housewife from Rockaway Beach, was walking her terrier, Psotka – Polish for “prankster” – when she wound up in a confrontation with two uniformed officers from the 100th Precinct, Shaun Grossweiler and Richard DeMartino. “They saw my dog and they said I didn't clean up,” said Stanczyk, fighting back tears as she spoke in halting English. “I said, 'No, she only pee.' They, of course, not agree with me and I say, 'Show me. Where is it?'” The officers found dog feces nearby, she said. “Pick it up,” she said one cop ordered her. “I got scared. I pick up. I said, 'It's cold, not belong to my dog.' When I smiled and said I didn't do anything, that made them very upset.” At that point, Stanczyk was handcuffed and arrested. When she used her feet to try to prevent them from closing the patrol car door to secure her, she says, the beating began. “I get scared to death,” she said. “I started to scream, 'My dog! My dog!' They punch me in my face. They punch me in my breast. They punch me in my stomach.” A neighbor ran over to take Psotka and cops took Stanczyk to the precinct. She was treated for her injuries – her knee still requires physical therapy – and charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Court papers indicate police accused Stanczyk of causing a ruckus by yelling at the officers to leave her alone. They also said she locked her hands in front of her to avoid arrest. The case was adjourned until May, when it will be dismissed as long as she stays out of trouble. Stanczyk had never been arrested before. She lost her job as a nurse in 2008 when she failed to attend a training program after an argument with a coworker. Her lawyer, Jon Norinsberg, said the workplace disagreement is “something that uneqivocally had nothing to do with what happened with police beating her the way they beat her.” Stanczyk said nothing she did warranted her injuries. She can't get past what happened. “I am afraid to leave the apartment,” she said. “I call my friends and beg them to go out with me. I feel better to stay home all the time.” Grossweiler, a four-year veteran, and DeMartino, a 10-year veteran, did not respond to a request for comment.
