Will Amanda Knox Get a Book Deal?

Amanda Knox was cleared of murder charges in Italy on Monday after jurors threw out a 2009 conviction that sent the American student to prison for a quarter-century. Almost immediately following her exoneration in the slaying of Meredith Kercher, media watchers began pondering when/if a book deal for Knox is on the way. She certainly has a compelling story to tell … but would you buy it? This summer, another young woman who attracted massive media attention was found innocent of murder, and quickly drew offers exceeding $750,000 for such a book. Casey Anthony has not written a book or even given an interview, of course. Due to widespread public hatred of her, one wonders if there will ever be a market. Knox, however, seems to enjoy much wider public support. It helps that a review of DNA evidence and long appellate proceedings resulted in her winning her freedom. Meredith Kercher’s throat was slashed in 2007, officials believed, after a sadistic sex game between the victim, Knox, and her boyfriend gone horribly, fatally wrong. Knox always maintained her innocence, although what happened to Kercher still remains a mystery. Would you be interested in hearing her side of the story? Tell us: Amanda Knox :

Casey Anthony Parents: Divided Over Her Guilt

George and Cindy Anthony are split over the innocence (or lack thereof) of their estranged daughter Casey Anthony, according to Dr. Phil McGraw. “[George] is very critical,” the TV psychologist said, while Cindy makes excuses for her daughter at every opportunity and lives in a state of denial. Neither of Casey’s parents have spoken to the 25-year-old since she was stunningly acquitted of murdering toddler Cayley Anthony back in July. In an interview airing today and tomorrow, the Anthonys are speaking out on the death of their granddaughter and the public trial that followed. Casey’s defense lawyers claimed Caylee drowned accidentally and George tried to hide the child’s body, having molested Casey as a child no less. Both deny anything of the sort, but at the same time, Dr. Phil said Cindy and George “have a different view [of whether Casey murdered Caylee].” “They question themselves every minute of every day,” McGraw said. “What did we fail to see here? What could we have done differently?” He adds that “Their position is up until [Casey’s] pregnancy, she was showing reasonably normal behavior and then it began to change.” We’ll post video of Dr. Phil’s interview with the Anthonys when it becomes available. It’s still unclear what their angle is in all of this. Your take: Casey Anthony is totally …

Charlie Sheen: A Changed Man?

With the exception of dodging some flying objects over the weekend, Charlie Sheen has remained relatively quiet over the last few weeks. Heck, he’s even made peace with Brooke Mueller . It may be confusing to those of us used to the actor’s Warlock ways, but Emilio Estevez says his brother is “a completely different guy.” This time for good, supposedly. Speaking to Access Hollywood , Estevez says Sheen has his “voice back.” The former Young Guns star credits a couple projects in the works for helping Charlie regain his “focus.” “He’s on a new show [ Anger Management ] and he’s gonna be roasted by Comedy Central – which I think is going to be hysterical,” Estevez says. “I think that he’s really got it together. And he’s very excited about the crew of the show he’s putting together.” [Photos: WENN.com]

West Memphis Three Free from Prison After Guitly Plea, Insist on Innocence

Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. – who were convicted of murdering three Boy Scouts in 1993 and who have come to be known as “The West Memphis 3” – were released today after serving 18 years in prison. In an odd, legal twist, the trio entered a plea of guilty in court… and were subsequently set free. The case grew in stature and publicity over the last few years, as new DNA evidence came to light that cast doubt on the conviction. Two documentaries were made about the West Memphis 3, with celebrities such as Eddie Vedder and Natalie Maines insisting on a retrial, and even showing up in court today. The families of two of the victims even joined forces with the defense, proclaiming that Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley Jr. were innocent. Following the threesome’s guilty plea, the lead prosecutor on the case issued a statement, excerpts from which read: “In light of these circumstances I decided to entertain plea offers that were being proposed by the defense. I NEVER considered ANY arrangement that would negate the verdicts of those two juries. Guilt or Innocence was NEVER ON THE TABLE. “Today’s proceeding allows the defendants the freedom of speech to SAY they are innocent, but the FACT is, they just pled GUILTY. I strongly believe that the interests of justice have been served today.” This arrangement is known as an “”Alford plea,” with defendants essentially admitting there was enough evidence to convict at the time of the trial, yet maintaining the right to state their innocence. Immediately following their release, Damien and Jessie held a press conference and insisted they served 18 years for a crime they “did not commit.” Jason is yet to comment.

Dr. Conrad Murray: No Plea Deal in Michael Jackson Case

Dr. Conrad Murray is reportedly adamant that he will not accept a plea bargain of any sort in the Michael Jackson involuntary manslaughter case. Sources say Dr. Murray feels so strongly about his innocence that even a plea offering zero jail time would be out of the question on principle. Not that the L.A. County District Attorney is bending over backwards to offer such a thing. Prosecutors believe they can and will win the case. Dr. Murray’s defense revolves around the fact that only two people were in the room around the time Michael died, those being Murray and Jackson. The doctor insists he did not administer the fatal dose of Propofol. His lawyers’ theory: Murray left to go to the bathroom, a frustrated MJ woke up, administered Propofol on his own, overdosed and killed himself . As for why he was providing Propofol to start with, Murray hopes MJ’s last rehearsal footage will show “warning signs” that he was a lost cause. Michael Jackson passed away two years ago today. What do you think of Dr. Conrad Murray?

Robert Pattinson Dishes On Awkward Love Scenes

‘Reese [Witherspoon] had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig,’ RPattz says of scene in ‘Water for Elephants.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News We’ve heard Robert Pattinson talk about his love scenes before. “Lot of my crack in it!” he once laughed to us about what we can expect in the upcoming drama ” Bel Ami .” And we’ve even seen photographic evidence of his honeymoon boom-boom with Kristen Stewart in December’s first installment of ” Breaking Dawn .” But when it comes to Pattinson’s amorous encounters onscreen, his fans can never get enough. It’s no surprise then that one Twitter user submitted a question during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson” asking if the actor felt awkward doing love scenes with “Water for Elephants” co-star Reese Witherspoon. Awkward, no. Sick? Well, yes. “The love scene in this, I was doing it when I had a really bad cold,” Pattinson explained. “I’m not generally that awkward doing stuff apart from when I’ve got my belly coming out. But my nose is running all over the place and it was in one of the additional photography scenes, and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig.” “We were doing this really passionate love scene,” he added with a giggle. “It was really stupid. I guess I’m not that awkward anymore.” The key with any love scene, Pattinson went on to make clear, is that it has to make sense within the context of the story. You can’t just get freaky in front of the camera because someone thinks it’ll boost ticket sales. “It always depends. You’ve got to really know what you’re doing. If it’s just a sort of arbitrary love scene, it’d be quite difficult,” he said. And what of his scene with Stewart in “Breaking Dawn,” the one we got an early, feather-filled glimpse of in January? Rob hesitated before saying simply, “The one on ‘Breaking Dawn’ is pretty funny.” Check out everything we’ve got on ” Water for Elephants .” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
