Can Listening To Music Improve Your Health?

Visit link:

If you are an avid music lover like myself, you most likely woke up this morning with a song floating around in your mind. That song followed you through your daily routines, rolling around in your head like the apple in your lunch bag, causing you to hum along and maybe even dance a bit while accomplishing your goals for the day. While not everyone has the same song that they consider “pump up music” in their life, the idea that music can improve your mood and be a catalyst for people in their daily lives is important to acknowledge. According to an article on NPR about a new book called The Power of Music , the author Elena Mannes “sees so much potential in music’s power to change the brain and affect the way it works.” From that perspective, music can be anything from a life-changer for stroke victims to a daily remedy for the average person suffering a bad day. The sounds of singing and instruments, no matter the genre, have the effect of medicine on an ailing brain in times of need. The tunes can range from slow jams to fast-paced anthems or classical pieces, but it ends up being the general melody and placement of lyrics that triggers memories and feelings associated with emotional growth. The knowledge of sounds, whether they be the natural rhythms of the heart or the pounding beat of an r&b song, can be detected as early as in the womb. Music is ingrained in our lives even prior to our birth, which gives strong validation to the idea that listening to the sounds around us is good for our health! 5 Ways To Find Inspiration From Within While this book is mostly associated with the affects of music therapy on patients with serious ailments, people with every day problems in love, family, or work can relate to music bringing uplift and restorative properties into their lives. After a long day caring for the children or sitting in an office cubicle, listening to a popular song from the radio or turning on your iPod to your favorite song can be a therapeutic and often leave more positive feelings in its wake. From personal experience, music has been both the optimistic friend that cheers you up and the “Debbie Downer” that helps me revel in my negative emotions. Both of these uses can be have a purposeful outcome in that when you need that emotional release, sad music can be a good coping mechanism, but when positivity is in order, there is always a crutch for that arm. It depends on what you are looking for from the music that you are listening to, as different moods bring varying degrees of needs. The improvement of health from putting on your headphones and feeling free from the strains of every day life is one of the strongest unifying properties of the listening experience, as people from all walks of life can experience the strong emotional value of music. Music is powerful in that with its melodic and healing properties, health can improve based on immersing oneself in your favorite song on your iPod or waking up to a song floating around in your head. The musical experience surpasses cultural or generational boundaries, therefore, it already has strong effects on the way people live. The instruments, lyrics, and voices of the performers are all very ingrained in human connection, therefore, bringing music therapy to light as having a strong effect on health is a powerful step in the right direction. As health becomes a main concern in the aging process, music can have the power to uplift, add passion, and center your life. My name is Claudette, I’m 15 and from Sydney, Australia….

My name is Claudette, I’m 15 and from Sydney, Australia. My Bieber experience started on the 26th April 2010. At 3am, my friends and I trecked it to the overseas international passengers terminal where there were already hundreds of screaming girls. We stayed there until 5am when we were told Justin wasn’t coming, which after that we sprinted to the Sunrise Studio. There were also hundreds of people there too. We were right at the front of the glass, but because I hadn’t slept for 14 hours, my friends decided I had to go home because I was about to pass out/vomit. We got home and I tried to get some sleep, but I was woken by the sound of screaming girls on TV. I looked and saw Justin performing on Sunrise! I was SO devostated that I didn’t get to see him. Eventually I accepted it and got over it. This year during Justin’s My World tour, I went on the 29th April with my 3 friends…BUT….we  didn’t  have tickets. We got there straight after school, about 2 hours before the concert. We found out that the concert was COMPLETELY sold out, so we walked around for 2 hours seeing if anyone had spare tickets. People did, but not enough. The concert started and we were with about 15 other people without tickets. There was one guy who kept on coming out, and he would give girls tickets. I felt like crying! Half an hour goes by, and the guy comes out again and gives more people tickets. My friends wanted to leave, they had given up but I told them NEVER SAY NEVER! About 1 hour into the concert, this guys comes back. He started talking to the security lady and I sprinted up to the glass, pressing my face against it, balling my eyes out. They point to me and my friends, then she comes to the door and tells us to come in. AT THAT MOMENT I BROKE INTO TEARS, HYSTERICALLY CRYING. IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING MOMENT OF MY LIFE. We walked into the concert just as he was getting egged! Although me missed a lot, it didn’t matter to me! FROM THAT MOMENT, JUSTIN TAUGHT ME TO NEVER SAY NEVER! After that night, I dedicated my whole weekend to finding Justin! The next day I tracked down his hotel. We walked inside and sat down. Then we heard people singing Happy Birthday. As we turned the corner, we found KENNY, RYAN AND ALFREDO! We got photos with them and sang happy birthday to Kenny. Later on I met Dan Kanter, and also Jacob Pena, who was Justin’s tutor for the tour and spent 2 hours walking around the city with him helping him buy a hat! You can see all my Bieber vids here . Justin followed me on Twittter three weeks ago! I burst into tears that night. Then Kenny tweeted + followed me and also Dan DM’d me! I honestly don’t know where my life would be right now if I didn’t have the inspiration of Justin. He has taught me so much and I will forever be a fan and I pray that he will come back to Australia sometime soon! – @claudbieberswag   Read this article: My name is Claudette, I’m 15 and from Sydney, Australia….

Newlywed R&B star Monica has found herself in the middle of a family feud. The ATL  singer recently collaborated with Rick Ross, Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim for the single, “Anything.” The song samples David Porter’s “I’m Afraid the Masquerade Is Over” used for the Notorious B.I.G’s classic “Who Shot Ya?” and the Queen Bee cribs a few lines from the Biggie hit in her verse. (Listen below) According to Monica’s twitter account Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace has stopped the single from being released because Lil’ Kim appears on the song. As custodian of Biggie’s estate, Ms. Wallace approves any samples of her late son’s music. “I am just finding out what has happened to my single and myself & Missy are beyond hurt that @LilKim was removed. She’s our friend, a legend,” Monica wrote. “Lil Kim will get the respect she deserves at all cost. The clearance was revoked and I’m fighting to get it reinstated by the Biggie Estate.” Ms. Wallace and Lil’ Kim have been engaged in a very public feud over the past few years, most recently over Kim’s portrayal in the biopic Notorious . Based on Monica’s tweets, the song would not be cleared unless Lil’ Kim’s vocals were removed. Despite her displeasure, Monica maintained her respect for Ms. Wallace and did not take sides, insisting that she “respects all parties involved” and hopes to have the song reinstated with Lil’ Kim featured. Lil’ Kim has taken the high road thus far simply writing, “I want ya’ll to know that Missy Elliot and Monica Brown have been going hard a s mothaf*cka for this situation. I love them so much! We are planning something even BIGGER for you guys.” WARNING: EXPLICIT CONTENT What do you think? Should Biggie’s mom let this one go or do you think she did the right thing blocking the record? Celebs Come Out For Pharrell’s Qream Liqueur Launch Party [PHOTOS]

View post:

Pharrell launched his Qream liqueur last night in California. Tons of celebs, including Serena and Venus Williams, Lauren London, Eva Marcille and Sanaa Lathan, came out to the private residence to support his new endeavor – a non-dairy, dessert-inspired vodka targeted towards women. Available in two flavors, strawberry creme and peach creme, a bottle costs $30. Though Pharrell isn’t a drinker himself, he explained his inspiration. “I think there’s such a stigma in the world about indulgence, making people feel guilty. Those things release endorphins. That means it brings joy to people.” With less calories than a glass of wine(!) and a thinner consistency than other cream liqueurs, we must say Pharrell’s got a winner on his hands! Creator Of Black Music Month Speaks On Getting Jimmy Carter To Hold First BMM Event

Kenny Gamble and Ed Wright created Black Music Month! Gamble credits his inspiration for starting it to the evolution of the NATRA (National Association of Television & Radio Announcers). “At one of its annual conventions, there were discussions on how it could evolve into something different, as NATRA had fallen on some hard economic times. It was time for something new and more inclusive of other industry professionals in the business,” he recalls. As for getting Jimmy Carter to hold the first Black Music event, read on… W illiams: How did the BMA get President Jimmy Carter to hold the first Black Music Month event, June 7, 1979, at the White House? Gamble: We had a lot of wonderful people involved. We had noticed that the CMA had been to the White House several times, so we were like, “Why can’t we go?” I called Clarence Avant… he knows everybody. He called Joe Smith and others. Plenty of calls were made. From my point of view, Clarence is the one who made it all happen. Andre Crouch and Chuck Berry performed and a lot of people were there that day. It was a great celebration and uplifting moment for African-American music people. For so long, Black folks had been pushed into a hole, like we didn’t count. The BMA made a difference by working together. It was a great moment and beautiful day that I won’t forget. Why Are Words Of Wisdom So Important?

Read more here:

Recently, I opened a fortune cookie after eating Chinese food and was oddly confused by the quote that was inside. It read as follows: “It is much easier to be critical than to be correct.” Reading it at the time, I had to look at it a few times before I could have an inkling of its significance. However, after putting it away for a few days and coming back to it, I was able to have a better idea of what the simple quotation had to do with life wisdom. If you really think about it, being “critical” and finding faults with people or ideas can be much easier than actually finding the “correct” words for what is really in front of you. Sometimes you just have to set aside your judgments to truly get a sense of what is “right” or “correct” for the particular situation. While many people do not taking fortune cookies seriously, since many of them have similar sentiments stuffed in them, I have always been one of those people who takes any sort of wisdom to heart. It made me wonder, though, why are certain quotations so hard to understand at first glance? Is it the wording that gets muddled or the idea that it takes time to come to terms with particular concepts? Perhaps I had never thought about what it meant to be “critical” as opposed to “correct,” at least in those words. Everyone has their own definition or perceived ideas about what certain words or phrases mean, which is why it is so important to be well-versed on language. Language is contextual, however, and no two people have the same understanding of everything they read. With these ideas in mind, what is it about the written word that has such resonance in our lives and has the ability to transcend cultures? Optimism & The Art Of Facing Your Fears One reason that this idea interests me is that I am a huge fan of song lyrics. Music has a different feeling when there are words and particular ideas involved which can shape the song as a piece of commentary. If you were to compare fortune cookie quotations and song lyrics, the two can go hand and hand due to the memorable quality that particular ideas can have. Sometimes, song lyrics can be as quotable as fortune cookies, since particularly radio friendly tunes have lines that are repeated, therefore stored in the consciousness of those listening. Lyrics have always been a refuge for me when I need guidance, just as people quoting common witticisms can give people hope at their lowest points. Fortune cookies and song lyrics bring logical ideas into the world through different mediums, yet sometimes have the similar aim of giving people knowledge of themselves and others that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Words of wisdom can come in many forms, but many times it is the wording and categorization of these quotes that has the strongest effect on the reader. Perhaps if “critical” or “correct” had been replaced with a different word, the quote would have a completely different meaning. That is why a thesaurus is so important to have knowledge of, since anyone can have a handle on wording if they know what choices they have at their disposal. The written word is so diverse, as there are many different languages, lingo, and ideas that have varied definitions depending on the culture. Quotations, such as the ones used in fortune cookies, are short and t0-the-point with their wording, which can be interpreted differently based on your own experiences and mindset. No definition is completely set in stone, especially if you have a particular dialect or upbringing that predisposed you of a different way of thinking. Words are subjective in their presence, which makes relate-able quotes from songs and novels, for example, inspirations to people based on their ideals. Words Of Wisdom: Malcolm X Quotes While talking to people when you are down or need advice can be the best medicine for a particular time, it can sometimes be that a quote from your favorite song, a fortune cookie, or even a line from an intriguing book can end up being the pick-me-up that you need. Instead of having a long-winded conversation with someone about a topic, a short and simple line about being “critical” versus being “correct” can have a strong effect on you due to its straight and to-the-point path. Being short on words does not always mean that there isn’t something important being said. More often than not, it is the subtleties of a tightened up quotation that end up being the real wisdom of the line. Words can have a strong impact on people’s opinions and way of life in general, since many people have particular quotes that they live by. Words can even be associated with symbols, as the word I live by is “balance” and I associate that with the sign of the yin-yang. In general, keeping strong morals and optimism in life is important, so words can be the catalysts that people need to be who they want to be. Never give up the words that mean something to you, as they can be constant reminders as to how you want to live your life! Nicki Minaj & Britney Spears Get Into Altercation At Femme Fatale Tour?! Kate Upton Tits in Esquire of the Day

Thanks to hormones in the food and genetics that have plagued so many teenagers before her, 18 year old Kate Upton has great full titties….that aren’t gonna always be great…cuz great full titties lose their appeal when the rest of the bitches body catches up as she hits 25…..which I guess isn’t the end of the world, cuz she’s still got 7 more years of exciting you, and it could be longer if she stays focused and keeps on a strict diet and exercise regime….but it was the end of the world for the many bust teens I’ve come across in my life, but more importantly their husbands, when the bitch became Gilbert Grapes mom…if you know what I mean… So, on that note, here she is in Esquire, try to forget the downer I put on these pics, cuz really who cares where she is or how fat she is at 25, it’s not like we’re friends with her, we’re just looking at her tits today, cuz that’s all that matters…. I’m so philisophical…
