Can Lindsay Lohan Make A Comeback? Experts Weigh In

As the actress faces a 90-day jail sentence, industry veterans are divided on what it means for Lohan’s career. By Eric Ditzian Lindsay Lohan in “Georgia Rule” Photo: Universal Pictures Lindsay Lohan’s 90-day jail sentence caps a long history of legal issues reaching back at least to her 2007 DUI arrest and comes at a time when the 24-year-old actress is trying to piece her career back together. The jail time, which is to be followed by a 90-day in-house stay at a substance-abuse clinic, will prevent Lohan from publicizing an upcoming movie and delay production on another one. What’s more, Lohan will be unable to continue promoting her new fashion line, 6126, which is expected to begin shipping to stores this month. So just how much will Lohan’s professional life suffer now that her ability to jumpstart new projects and promote existing ones has been compromised? Will the actress — once a rising star with box-office hits like “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls” — survive her current woes and make a Hollywood comeback? “The simple stroke is that she already destroyed her movie career,” said David Poland of MovieCityNews.com. “Is she insurable on a film right now? Probably not. What was a bad reputation has turned into a legally defined problem.” To wit, Lohan has already lost at least one job because of her public notoriety, having been fired from “The Other Side” in April. Writer/director David Michaels explained it this way at the time: “The producers of the movie have reported that financiers have been resistant to finance the movie with Lindsay in the lead role,” adding that Lohan was simply “not bankable.” Still, the director of “Inferno,” a biopic in which Lohan is set to star as 1970s porn star Linda Lovelace, has came out in support of the embattled actress. “I am 100 percent behind Lindsay and can say the same for everyone involved in the production of ‘Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story,’ ” Matthew Wilder told MTV News in a statement after her jail sentence was announced on Tuesday. “Indeed, we are proud to have this remarkable artist work on our film.” Other producers shared the sentiment. The Associated Press reported that Lohan is in negotiations for a part in the upcoming Willie Nelson movie “The Dry Gulch Kid,” and that production would be postponed if she wanted the role. “We’re behind her,” producer Kerry Wallum said. “We’ll wait until all of this blows over.” How long will that take? And will Lohan be able to step back into the limelight? That depends on how she handles herself, both in private and in public, in the weeks and months ahead, according to one Hollywood PR vet. “She can take this and she can learn from it and it becomes a cathartic event in her life,” said Howard Bragman, founder of publicity firm Fifteen Minutes. “The one thing we haven’t heard from Lindsay is, ‘I’m sorry, I have a problem, I’m going to resolve it.’ She doesn’t have PR problems, she has life problems. You can’t fix your problems until you admit you have them. I think she needs a lot of therapy. She needs to let her career be second and her life be first.” Before she can get her life back, though, Lohan is headed to prison, and Bragman maintained that if she deals with it appropriately, she has a shot at resurrecting her career. “I would [tell her to] shut up until she gets of jail,” Bragman said of an ideal approach for the actress. “I would be working quietly on my post-jail career plans and life. Robert Downey Jr. was certainly one who’s overcome some demons and come back in a big way. I think it’s possible for Lindsay. This town is full of people who have overcome problems.” At least one industry insider thinks the widely viewed footage of Lohan sobbing as the judge laid out her sentence will actually help her fortunes. “Is Lohan more marketable now?” wrote Jeff Wells of Hollywood-Elsewhere.com . “Will raising the dough for ‘Inferno’ be a tad easier? I would think so.” “There’s also the matter of LiLo’s acting talent — which she has a fair amount of — and the fact that her addictions have been taking her down and that she really needed a combination wake-up and face-slap,” Wells wrote. “I know that the lives of people who make constant whoopee always turn tragic — hurt careers, disease, early death, financial issues. That judge did LiLo a huge favor.” “Has she hit bottom yet?” Movie City News’ Poland wondered. “Doesn’t seem like it. And once she does, she’ll still have to be in ‘movie jail’ for years before she is allowed a comeback. If she comes back, it will have to be ironic. It’s not like she has a big personality, like Downey. Cute is over. Sexy is already wearing too much makeup. So where is there to go, other than VH1 or ‘The 700 Club’?” Do you think Lindsay can make a career comeback? Share your thoughts in the comments. Lady Gaga’s Monsters Beat The Heat For ‘Dream Come True’ MSG Show

‘Everything was about New York today,’ one fan notes after Gaga’s headlining debut at Madison Square Garden. By MTV News Staff Lady Gaga performs at Madison Square Garden in NYC on June 6 Photo: Derek Storm/ Splash News When Lady Gaga took to the stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, the singer said she was thankful for the chance to headline for the first time at the storied midtown venue. Her little monsters were equally thankful for the chance to see Gaga make the momentous career step in her hometown. “It’s 110 degrees in New York City right now, and I’m from Montana — it is savagely hot here and I’m dying in the heat, but it was definitely worth it,” Beau told MTV News as she left MSG. “She started crying in the beginning, and she was like, ‘This is my teenage dream come true, and it was just really sweet.’ ” Ben added that while it was sweltering outside, “Lady Gaga’s concert was definitely hotter than it is out here!” New York native Alex loved the show’s theme. “Everything was about New York today. Shocking moment of the night was when she [lay down] up on the piano and started playing the piano with her boot.” Frankie said he was spellbound by some of Gaga’s infamous theatrics. “It was a nice moment to see she got very emotional,” he said. “It was almost like she climbed up on the piano and on the screen they focused on her shoe, and then she started slamming her shoe on her piano, and it looked like she was going crazy on the piano for theatrics, and then she actually started playing. It was really, really cool!” Other little monsters left the show taking Gaga’s message to heart: If you dream big, sometimes your dreams do come true. “She mentioned that when she was our age, she was back in the last row, which is where we were trying to get past security and get closer to the front, and we did it,” Maggie admitted. “We dodged security, and basically, she gave us the inspiration that one day we can be up there, or our dreams can come true also. So, it was really inspirational.” Have you been to a Lady Gaga show? Share your favorite moments in the comments. Robert Pattinson Related To Real Dracula, Vlad The Impaler

‘Twilight’ star reportedly shares ancestry with Transylvanian leader on whom Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ is believed to be based. By Gil Kaufman Robert Pattinson So that’s why he’s so believable! Just in time for the launch of “Eclipse,” genealogy researchers have unearthed evidence that the most famous fictional vampire of our time, Robert Pattinson, is related to the most famous vampire of all time, Vlad the Implaer. According to The Associated Press , researchers at Ancestry.co.uk have revealed that the 24-year-old “Twilight” hunk has ties to Vlad III Dracula, a.k.a. Vlad the Impaler, the Transylvanian leader widely thought to be the inspiration for the main character in Bram Stoker’s legendary 1897 novel “Dracula.” The tie between Pattinson and Vlad apparently comes via their common relationship to the British royal family. England’s Prince William and Prince Harry are Pattinson’s distant cousins and Vlad the Impaler was their distant uncle. Vlad was born in Transylvania and ruled over the region now known as Romania (then called Wallachia) from 1456 to 1462. Known as “the Impaler,” Vlad was famous for executing his enemies by driving wooden stakes into their bodies. “Tracing Pattinson’s family back to Vlad was difficult research, but the pieces that unraveled created the perfect accompaniment to the ‘Twilight Saga,’ ” said Anastasia Tyler, a genealogist at Ancestry.com. “Without any myth or magic, we find royalty and vampires lurking in Pattinson’s life — making his story just as supernatural as the one he’s playing on screen.” And, in a connection only a publicist could dream of, the folks at Ancestry.com say that “Twilight” series author Stephenie Meyer also has ties to the British princes’ lineage, which means that, yes, she too is related to Dracula. Coincidentally, “Eclipse” opens Wednesday, June 30. Taylor Swift Says She’s Taking A Break From Acting

‘I’m making music. That’s always been my number-one love,’ singer tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Frederick Breedon/ WireImage After nabbing an MTV Movie Awards nomination for her work in “Valentine’s Day,” and a cameo in “CSI,” Taylor Swift has had fans wondering whether she’ll hit the big or small screen again soon. When we caught up with her, Swift said if a great role were to come her way, she wouldn’t pass it up. “It’s been so cool to be able to be a part of things that have been really fun, like being in ‘Valentine’s Day’ and getting to guest star in ‘CSI,’ ” Swift recently told MTV News. “I feel like I get to do these little mini-movies when I make music videos, so that kind of fulfills that little need or desire. But, if I ever get time, I might like to [act again].” Still, Swift was clear about her main focus. “I’m not making movies right now. I’m making music,” she said. “That’s always been my number-one love.” Indeed, Taylor has been busy working on a new album, which she teased, last month, would revisit some familiar territory. “[The new album] is going great actually,” Swift revealed. “I’ve been writing it for the last two years, so this summer it’s all about the finishing touches and getting in there in the studio and recording the last couple songs.” Asked what her inspiration was for the upcoming project, Taylor said the answer should be obvious: “Boys and love.” Should Taylor star in more romantic comedies? Miley Cyrus Admits ‘Full Circle’ Is About Nick Jonas

‘Surprise, surprise, it’s about a Jonas brother,’ Cyrus reveals of the ’08 track during concert in Portugal. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus Photo: Fotonoticias/ WireImage Miley Cyrus may be happily dating her “The Last Song” co-star Liam Hemsworth, but she had another boy on her mind when it came to recording “Full Circle,” from her Breakout album. While performing at the Rock in Rio concert in Lisbon, Portugal, on Saturday, Cyrus surprised fans when she revealed the inspiration for the track was none other than JoBro Nick, her onetime flame. “It’s about two people. They’re always gonna come back together no matter what anyone says, the bad people that try to keep you apart. It’s a personal story,” Cyrus can be heard telling the crowd in a video posted on JustJared.com . “Surprise, surprise, it’s about a Jonas brother,” she smiled. After singing a few lines, the singer added, “You didn’t hear that.” The song isn’t new, but the revelation was. Miley and Nick dated for nearly two years before breaking up in 2007. On the chorus, Cyrus sings, “I try to run/ But I keep on coming back/ Full circle/ And I can’t jump the track/ Can’t let you go.” The “Can’t Be Tamed” singer has never been too shy about discussing her relationships, but the star initially tried to keep the one with Nick under wraps. In a 2008 interview with Seventeen magazine in 2008, Cyrus opened up, confirming their relationship — and their breakup. In her book “Miles to Go,” published last year, she called Jonas her “Prince Charming.” But the Lisbon concert wouldn’t be the first time the exes have used music to address their on-again, off-again relationship. In 2008, Cyrus released the breakup track “7 Things.” The video’s director, Brett Ratner, confirmed fans’ suspicions about the song’s intended target, when he noted that a piece of jewelry Miley wore in the clip was a gift from Nick. “The necklace she’s wearing in the video is the necklace he gave her,” Ratner told MTV News at the time. “She’s wearing his diabetes or medical necklace.” The couple reconciled for a short time in 2009, recording the ballad “Before the Storm,” off the JoBros’ fourth album . But they parted ways again after Cyrus met Hemsworth on set. Jonas is currently unattached; he last dated from Disney star Selena Gomez . David Guetta, Fergie, LMFAO Party In ‘Gettin’ Over You’ Video

A tweet from the French superstar DJ/producer brings Jabbawockeez and other revelers to studio, in new clip. By Akshay Bhansali Photo: MTV News Dance music superstar David Guetta was beaming when we caught up with him this weekend at KIIS-FM’s Wango Tango festival in Los Angeles. The concert event marked the French DJ/producer’s inclusion in what has now become an annual West Coast tradition showcasing the best of the best in popular music. This year’s roster boasted the likes of Adam Lambert, Ke$ha, Ludacris, Akon, Usher and Justin Bieber. “I live in Paris, so I have no idea. I arrived and didn’t even know what the Staple[s] Center was,” Guetta said. “Then I arrived to the rehearsal and I was like, ‘Wow! This is big!’ I saw all the artists that were performing and it’s amazing. I’m really happy and honored to be part of that.” Guetta has collaborated with Akon and Kelly Rowland, on “Sexy Chick” and, “When Love Takes Over,” respectively, and they, along with singer Chris Willis, joined Guetta onstage for a rocking show on Saturday. Now, he’s followed that with the premiere of his latest video on Tuesday (May 18) morning. The clip for “Gettin’ Over You,” features Fergie , party-rockers LMFAO and Chris Willis, who all guest on the track. In an interview with MTV News last month, Guetta set up the concept for the visual. “The video is the story of what happened to me when I came to produce ‘I Gotta Feeling’ for the Black Eyed Peas,” Guetta explained. “So, the inspiration for my video is we’re in recording sessions — me, Fergie, LMFAO, Chris Willis — and then more and more people are partying in the studio. We party in the streets. Partying in the area … partying in the city.” Indeed, “Getting’ Over You” is just as he described. The clip opens in a recording studio with Guetta behind the boards as he declares, “So guys, if you’re ready, we’re gonna do it one in one take. Let’s go.” Fergie (sporting a pouf and dramatically lined eyes) and Willis launch into the verses, as Guetta is seen tweeting that he’s in the studio. Just after LMFAO’s Sky Blu and Redfoo step up to their mics, a passerby hears the music from outside and sneaks into the session. The newcomer rounds up some friends, who carry speakers into the streets and patch into the soundboard, and lo and behold, the neighbors hear the music and flock to the studio. Soon a large crowd makes its way to Guetta’s recording session-turned-party, which spills into a nearby alley way, where everyone dances it out to the rest of the song. Somehow, America’s Best Dance Crew alums the Jabbawockeez find their way to the bash — and take things to the next level. Guetta may well have delivered another summer pop-dance music hit, in the vein of “I Gotta Feeling,” a song he co-produced for the Peas and that went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks last year. “I think ‘Getting’ Over You’ has that power of ‘I Gotta Feeling,’ Guetta said. “It’s actually kind of the same vibe. I’m really confident in this record. What did you think of Fergie’s look in the “Gettin’ Over You” video? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Fergie Lmfao

‘American Idol’ Movie Night: What Should The Top 4 Sing?

Here are our top song suggestions for the remaining contestants. By Eric Ditzian “American Idol” Top 4 Photo: FOX Welcome, y’all, step right this way! Take your seats for Songs of the Cinema Night on “American Idol,” where every track on the approved list seems to have been selected by a 13-year-old boy circa 1987 or a middle school girl with a huge Disney crush. How else can we explain the presence of tunes from “Ghostbusters,” “Caddyshack,” “Top Gun,” “Rocky” and “Rocky III”? And cuts off “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King” and “Tarzan”? It certainly can’t be because those songs are good fits for the talents of Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze and the rest of the “Idol” top four. Suitable tunes are few and far between for the contestants this Tuesday night (May 11), and mentor Jamie Foxx will have a tall task in front of him. Luckily he’s had some practice shaping these reality-show hopefuls, having guided the singers last year during Rat Pack Week. With just one show to go until we hit the top three and begin the ever important home visits, the stakes are high going into the show. Here are our picks for the songs that best fit each singer — the songs that might have them hanging on for another week. Crystal Bowersox – Last week, MamaSox made the very convincing argument that she needn’t always chose a big, high-impact song simply because she’s on “American Idol.” Alas, that’s wishful thinking on the part of this season’s most talented contestant, one who’s never seemed entirely comfortable in front of the spotlight. After two lovely, if ordinary performances, it’s time for Crystal to go big again. That’s why we have our eye on “I Will Always Love You,” the song Whitney Houston reintroduced to the public in “The Bodyguard.” But before Houston came Dolly Parton, whose country version became a hit in the ’70s and which she recorded for the 1982 film, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” MamaSox should take her inspiration from Parton’s version, infusing it with some Joplin-style blues. If she goes in this direction, it could be a big night for the dreadlocked 24-year-old. Lee Dewyze – Well after the original song list was released, an updated version hit the Web. The biggest surprise? Prince’s “Purple Rain.” There’s simply no way “Idol” producers went to the trouble of clearing this song if someone’s not going to sing it. And we’d like that lucky crooner to be Dewyze. The 24-year-old has had his biggest successes with slow, expressive rock tunes. “Purple Rain” is just funky enough that it would still mesh well with the contestant we’ve come to know while at the same time showing us some welcome range. Michael Lynche – Here comes our most predictable song choice: Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose.” The simple fact of that matter is that we think Big Mike should play it safe this week and stay well within his comfort zone. He’s coming off an admirable take on Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.” In the past, we’ve seen him veer away from a jazzy, R&B vibe after a successful performance and indulge light indie-rock tuneage. That’s not what works best for the contestant who most clearly wants to — needs to — win this show. He can knock “Kiss From a Rose” out of the park, and that’s exactly what he should do. It’s his best bet to make it into the top 3. Casey James – We had our eye on Glen Hansard and Mark

Beijing Uses Deodorants To Sweeten Foul Smelling Dumps

Beijing is using water cannons to fire smell-busting liquid on its worst-offending landfill sites. Because of the upcoming warmer weather in China’s capital, it caused garbage to rot even faster and leads to a nasty stench in some parts of the city. In one suburban area, workers filled 100 high-pressure hoses with liquid deodorant in order to lessen the awful smell. However, tactic appears to be having mixed results. Some of the local residents complain about the smell. It is still so bad that they are waking up coughing at night. Even they are soundly asleep, they can wake up coughing. Everyone opens their windows in the summer. The deodorant cannons are the inspiration of the Gao’antun Garbage Landfill Plant. After a dousing from the spray, which is made from plant extracts, the garbage is then covered with odor-eating sheets. A machine is also use to extract the gasses from the garbage and later on use them to generate electricity. This process reduces the pollution at the landfill to the lowest level.
