Justin Bieber, Jaden Smith Premiere ‘Karate Kid’ Video, ‘Never Say Never’

Bieber and Smith recorded the track together for Smith’s new movie. By Jocelyn Vena Jaden Smith and Justin Bieber in their video for “Never Say Never” Photo: The Island Def Jam Music Group Justin Bieber has recorded a duet with “Karate Kid” star Jaden Smith called “Never Say Never,” for the movie’s soundtrack. The two also star in the track’s video together, with Bieber saying the clip is “Chuck Norris Approved” and referring to Smith as his “lil’ bro.” The video is a combination of recording-studio footage and scenes from “The Karate Kid,” which hits theaters on June 11. The video shows the teen pop star bouncing alongside the 11-year-old star of the flick as they lay down the vocals for the hip-hop-flavored track. While Bieber has made a career of singing about puppy love, on this song the teen sensation gets his inspirational message on singing lyrics like “I will never say never/ I will fight till forever/ Whenever you knock me down/ I will not stay on the ground/ Pick it up.” The boys goof around with one another in the clip, with Bieber flexing some karate moves and Smith proving he has what it takes to be the heir to his father Will Smith’s rapping throne when he raps during the breakdown of the song. “I can handle him/ Hold up/ I can handle him/ Now he’s bigger than me/ Taller than me/ And he’s older and stronger than me,” Smith raps. He then goes on to say that he was “raised with the power of Will (No pun intended, OK?)” so he can do just about anything, including appearing on a song with Bieber. Bieber later tweeted a message to his fans, saying, “#NeverSayNever to believing in your dreams … u all make mine come true everyday. thank u :)” What do you think of the Bieber/Smith collaboration? Kristen Stewart Leads Best Female Performance Nominees At MTV Movie Awards

Sandra Bullock, Zoe Saldana, Amanda Seyfried and Emma Watson face off against the ‘New Moon’ star on Sunday, June 6. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart in “Twilight: New Moon” Photo: Kimberley French/Summit Entertainment A far cry from the old “Sugar and spice and everything nice” adage, there’s something to be said for strong women, and this year’s Best Female Performance category at the MTV Movie Awards is packed with them. Despite their diverse backgrounds — from otherworldly Pandora and Hogwarts to the small town of Forks, Washington — the one thing all five nominees have in common is their strength. Here’s a look at the five contenders in the Best Female Performance category who will face off Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV: Amanda Seyfried, “Dear John” In this have-tissues-handy tearjerker, Seyfried is Savannah, an idealistic college student on spring break, who meets and quickly falls in love with John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a soldier on leave from the Army Special Forces. Their romance and eventual long-distance courtship through correspondence is the stuff from fairy tales. And Seyfried plays the perfect princess. Emma Watson, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” Moviegoers and “Potter” fans alike have watched the college freshman grow up onscreen. In the sixth installment of the hugely popular franchise, Watson is as bewitching as ever. In “Half-Blood Prince,” Hermione must confront the death of a dear friend and unrequited love. Watson’s transition from bossy schoolgirl to brazen young woman is a seamless one. Kristen Stewart, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” Kristen Stewart doesn’t have legions of obsessive, die-hard fans for nothing. Her endearingly clumsy-yet-steadfast portrayal of Bella is so spot-on, fans have convinced themselves that Stewart is her character and that she and her onscreen star-crossed love interest, Robert Pattinson (Edward), are a couple in real life. Sandra Bullock, “The Blind Side” If it were any other awards show, an argument could be made that competing against an Academy Award winner isn’t quite fair — especially one who was perfectly cast as the fiery Leigh Anne Tuohy, a character based on the inspirational real-life mom who takes in a teenager, Michael, from foster care and raises him to be a part of her family. Zoe Saldana, “Avatar” When images and trailers started surfacing before the momentous release of “Avatar,” there were grumblings about “those blue people” and the actors who played them. Not so after the movie opened. Moviegoers were blown away and completely transported to a new world of filmmaking. Zoe Saldana’s performance as Neytiri, a woman who stands by her people, planet and man, embodies every letter of the phrase “strong woman” and is absolutely deserving of the Best Female title. Who is your pick for Best Female Performance? Sound off in the comments! Don’t miss the 2010 MTV Movie Awards , airing live from Los Angeles on Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: Kristen Stewart

David Guetta Was ‘Moved’ By K’Naan’s ‘Wavin’ Flag’

A video for the inspirational anthem’s remix premiered today. By Akshay Bhansali K’Naan in “Wavin’ Flag” In the past five years, K’Naan has risen in popularity around the world. The Somali-Canadian rapper/singer is fast becoming known for his inspirational, unifying and vivid material. Growing up in Mogadishu amid the still-ongoing Somali civil war was no doubt formative in making K’Naan into the artist he is today. The hip-hop music his father sent him from America was probably similarly influential. So it should come as no surprise that for his third single from the album Troubadour, he chose to tweak his song “Wavin’ Flag.” In the wake of the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year, the song became a charity single featuring 50 other Canadian artists under the group banner Young Artists for Haiti. Looking to create an urban remake, K’Naan chose producers Will.I.Am and French dance-music hitmaker David Guetta to help fine-tune “Wavin’ Flag” into a ditty with a more mainstream feel. In the video, which premiered Thursday (April29), Will.I.Am and Guetta appear before a black backdrop, but mostly, we see K’Naan inspiring people. He climbs a mountain, sings arm-in-arm with children and performs a concert, all set to the chorus, “When I get older, I will be stronger/ They’ll call me freedom/ Just like a wavin’ flag.” Indeed, the message seems clear: One can achieve the unattainable through belief and strong resolve, a recurring theme in the artist’s three-album catalog. Earlier this month, MTV News caught up with Guetta, who was tickled to have gotten the chance to, for once, slow things down. “When I heard it, I thought it was so beautiful,” Guetta said. “I was totally moved. And then I met K’Naan, and he’s a beautiful person. I was really excited. And then I heard Will was working on it. We decided to do a new version of it, and I think it’s great. “It was my first experience with a slower tempo, so I didn’t know I could handle it,” Guetta explained. “The way I make music is always: ‘Is this going to make people dance?’ That’s the only thing I think about. ‘OK, how to make this emotional?’ So, this one is all about being emotional.” “Wavin’ Flag” has been selected as the Coca-Cola’s promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The soccer event will be held in South Africa, and versions of the single have been recorded in English, Spanish and Chinese. Were you inspired by K’Naan’s “Wavin’ Flag”? Let us know in the comments!
