After criticizing the paparazzi in Israel on his Twitter account, he then vowed to take a break from tweeting so that he could vacation with his family before his performance there on Thursday. Let’s not forget he had to cancel his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well. But on Thursday Bieber finally hit the stage without a hitch. “Well hello there,” he tweeted before he took the stage at Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park. “Time to do what i love best … perform for the fans. Israel … its almost time. #myworldtour.” According to a concert review in The Hollywood Reporter, Bieber took the stage at 8:00 p.m. to play to an estimated 35,000 fans. While most of the show sounded like standard Bieber fare, at one point Bieber’s music director, Dan Kanter, played the country’s national anthem, “Hatikva.” Bieber then played his inspirational track “Pray,” and even paid homage to manager Scooter Braun’s grandmother, a Holocaust survivor who was in the audience. “It was perhaps the one awkward moment in the show, if only because the next line he uttered enthusiastically was, ‘Who wants to be my ‘Baby?!’ ” the writer noted in her review. After his show, he seemed as happy about the performance as his fans. “AMAZING NIGHT … AMAZING PLACE … AMAZING SHOW!!” he tweeted. “NEVER GOING TO FORGET THIS ONE. #BLESSED” Next up Bieber takes his act to the Singapore Indoor Stadium. He has shows booked abroad through May. Related Artists Justin Bieber

‘Spider-Man’ Musical Star Talks Production Delays And Fighting Fear

‘To give the kind of performance you want to give, there’s no room for fear,’ T.V. Carpio tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian T.V. Carpio Photo: Dario Cantatore/ WireImage “Things are constantly changing. It’s a very creative process,” T.V. Carpio told MTV News, explaining the seemingly ever-shifting nature of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” For some observers on the outside looking in, that might come off as spin, an “it’s all good” mentality meant to calm the public while inside the musical’s playhouse, “Spider-Man” continues to struggle to find its creative footing. But to Carpio, it’s all part of the inspirational process of working with Julie Taymor, the visionary behind the “Lion King” musical and films like 2007’s “Across the Universe.” “You have to be down to jump, because Julie is always having these crazy visions,” said Carpio, who took on the role of the villainess Arachne after the original actress left the production. “She’s amazing like that, and you just have to go with it.” Still, there’s no doubting that the cast of “Turn Off the Dark” has had a lot to just go with. From multiple delays in the show’s official Broadway debut to highly publicized safety issues and injuries, the musical is being buzzed about for all the wrong reasons. Recent reports suggest fresh behind-the-scenes talent is being welcomed into the fold. Carpio, however, denied reports that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a playwright and comics writer, has been hired to work on script issues . “I haven’t heard anything about a writer joining us. Whenever they do change anything, they make an announcement to the cast,” she said. “They told us that all the rumors, if we haven’t been told about them, aren’t true.” The cast has been working closely with musical supervisor Paul Bogaev, one of Taymor’s longtime collaborators, to enhance various musical numbers. “There aren’t any new songs,” Carpio said. “Paul’s just working with the songs we already have. Yesterday, he helped write a new part for my monologue in the second act. And we put in a new flight. He’s just another set of outside eyes helping sculpt what’s already there. But he is the only new one who’s actually there and working. “Although it’s new, because he hasn’t worked on ‘Spider-Man’ all along, Julie works with a lot of the same people,” she added. “The family we have working on the music — the choreographers, dancers, actors — is sort of like the family from ‘Across the Universe.’ It didn’t feel crazy, like, ‘Who’s this guy?’ It was like, ‘Oh hey, Paul!’ ” Through all the changes, Carpio said she’s kept anxiety at bay — the original Arachne, Natalie Mendoza, dropped out after suffering a concussion during a high-flying stunt — and focused on the task at hand: delivering an entertaining Broadway experience. “To give the kind of performance you want to give, there’s no room for fear. There’s always adrenaline, but it’s not about fear. You just have to trust you can do it,” she said. “I don’t care about what goes on outside. I can’t control what people say; I can only control my performance. That’s the only thing I can give.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Lady Gaga Previews Born This Way Tracks

Rolling Stone heard four new songs, which seem to draw from the past while still pushing the envelope. By MTV News Staff Report Lady Gaga Photo: Michael Caulfield/ Getty Images Hours before reviving her long-running Monster Ball Tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey, recently, Lady Gaga gave Rolling Stone magazine a sneak peek at four songs off her upcoming Born This Way album … and from the sound of things, she’s not only pushing the boundaries, she’s borrowing from some of the best in the business. For example, E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons, who lends his prodigious skronk to a pair of the songs — “Edge of Glory” and “Hair” — or Nine Inch Nails, circa Trent Reznor’s Broken era (on “Hair,” which also apparently draws inspiration from ’80s singer Pat Benatar’s “We Belong” and the inspirational, all-encompassing lyrics of LG’s own “Born This Way”). Another song, “Judas,” which is set to be the second single off Born This Way, is described by Rolling Stone writer Matthew Perpetua as “a classic Lady Gaga pop banger,” with a “thumping, house music breakdown” and a vocal hook “that borrows a bit of Rihanna’s distinctive cadence.” “Edge” is “a massive power ballad with heavy club beats” that also contains “an element of cheesiness” and an “Eighties stadium rock vibe.” “Schei

Nicki Minaj Says Drake Was Her ‘First Choice’ For ‘Moment 4 Life’

MC explains the fairytale arc of her Drake-assisted video to MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj already has a reputation for pulling off shocking outfits and spitting even more insane stuff on her records. However, her latest video, “Moment 4 Life,” may surprise some of her die-hard fans, as Minaj swaps her edgy costumes for graceful, ladylike looks and runs off with her Prince Charming — in this case, it’s Young Money bestie Drake — and gets married under a firework display. Shortly after the premiere of the video on MTV on Thursday evening, Minaj sat down with MTV News’ Sway and explained the development of the fairytale narrative and said that catching her fans off guard is just what she was looking for. “I definitely went back and forth with [director] Chris [Robinson] a lot. I just wanted it to be something a little bit unexpected,” she said. Minaj added she initially had a more bottle-poppin’ vibe in mind, which was eventually replaced by the romantic story line. “First I wanted it to be like, really just a celebration and a party,” she admitted. “But I had the idea of making it more of a romance. Chris just sort of took those little bits and pieces and ran with it, and then it became sort of this big Cinderella thing.” The concept of the video may have evolved over time, but Minaj said that her first choice to jump on the track was always Drizzy, who provided her with the instrumental. “Drake came to the studio one night and he brought me a whole bunch of beats when I was wrapping up the [ Pink Friday ] album. This ‘Moment 4 Life’ was one of the beats, and he was like, ‘Just do whatever. Whatever you pick, I’m just gonna rock with you.’ I had the beat for a while, maybe, like, over a month, and I was just sitting on it — pause — and next thing you know, I was shooting [the video for] ‘Right Thru Me’ and I played this beat for everybody in my dressing room, and I was like, ‘Do you like this beat?’ Everybody said, ‘Yeah.’ And I just went to the studio the next day, and I laid the hook and I sent it to Drake and I didn’t know if he was gonna like it, blah blah blah, and he was like, ‘I love it.’ ” Drizzy mused that their parallel journeys as budding hip-pop superstars made the inspirational track a perfect fit. “He was like, ‘It makes sense for me and you.’ We both are at a place right now that we feel like we wish we could have this moment for life,” she recalled. “We don’t know what’s gonna happen next year, but this moment feels amazing. He was obviously my first choice to be on it.” What do you think of Nicki and Drake in “Moment 4 Life”? Let us know in the comments!
