“She reads the books I give her…”— Nate Parker Nate Parker Defends Being Married To A Non-Black Woman Embattled director Nate Parker recently addressed criticism he’s received for being married to his wife. The “Birth Of A Nation” director who’s fielding serious condemnation after his 1999 rape acquittal case resurfaced , made a point to defend his marriage at a movie screening. Just a few days ago, Parker addressed a crowd full of media and made sure to note that while he loves his wife of nearly a decade, Sarah DiSanto , he “loves ‘yall too.” Furthermore he keeps Sarah informed by having her read books in between her raising his four black daughters. MadameNoire.com: While speaking after a screening of The Birth of a Nation at The Merge Summit in Hollywood this week, Parker responded to that particular criticism in a conversation with interviewer Jawn Murray . “My wife is not African American,” Parker said. “I met my wife in college when I was 18 or 19. Nineteen? When I was 19. I fell in love with her. We’ve been together off and on since then. We got married nine years ago, August 10.” Parker continued, noting that while his wife isn’t Black, she cares about the community and is, of course, raising Black children. “She’s the love of my life. She’s not of African descent but she reads the books that I give her. She knows that she’s raising Black kids. I say that to say that I know I came under criticism for that and not that I have to speak to it. Rihanna Had Kind Words To Say About Drake’s VMA Speech Drake and Rihanna have had the internet buzzing since they’ve stopped hiding their relationship. While Drake has been a lot more forthcoming with the nature of their union, Rihanna hasn’t said very much by way of any public acknowledgement. After the VMAs, though, she wrote a long message and mentioned him in the post. It was a single sentence and could very well just be pleasantries, but for someone who really hasn’t even mentioned him by name this is the most she’s done. #VMA2016 night was one that I would never forget!! I have the most incredible people in my life! My family, friends, loved ones, my fans, my team!!! All gifted beautiful spirits! And I’m so grateful that God has precisely and flawlessly arranged our paths to meet at each other! It’s because of you that I was able to reach this moment in my career! And it’s also because of you that I was able to pull off a night like this one, with 4 medley performances, 4 set productions, 4 outfits, 4 hair and makeup looks, and all in 4 days of rehearsal! It was a challenge but I wanted nothing more than to give my fans a true representation of all the colors that I’m made of as an artist! SMH… Teacher Throws Away Child’s Shoes The parents of a 6-year-old who believe their child was bullied by her teacher are reeling. Little Taraji Edwards of South Carolina told her parents she was humiliated when her teacher put her shoes in the trash. Why? Because she was “fidgeting” during class. WSPA reports: Two Upstate parents are looking for answers after they said a teacher threw away their first-grader’s shoes at Bryson Elementary in Simpsonville last week. Six-year-old Taraji Edward’s mother said she knew there was a problem when she was getting her daughter ready for school the next day. “She began to cry, ‘no mommy I don’t want to wear those sandals’,” Chartrese Edwards. Edwards said she asked her daughter why, and that’s when her daughter told her the teacher had thrown them away the day before. “I was messing with my shoes, and the teacher told me eight times or seven, and I never listened,” Taraji said. She said the strap was bothering her in math class last week. Taraji said the teacher made her walk around barefoot for a while before she was told she could go get her shoes from the trash and put them back on her feet. Taraji said she felt singled out. “I feel embarrassed, and I did not like how she treated me… that’s not a way I can make friends,” she said. Edwards said she did speak with the principal and teacher at the school. “She easily confessed,” Edwards said. ‘Yes I did.’ I told her to leave the shoes alone, and she did not listen to me.’” The teacher has yet to face disciplinary action. Welp!!! Tamar Braxton Defends Vincent Herbert Tamar Braxton is shutting down reports that her marriage is in trouble. As previously reported, BOSSIP broke the story that Tamar and Vince got into a massive blowout and Vince bit Tamar’s hand drawing blood. Now according to Tamar “everybody can have several seats” because they’re doing just fine. “Just because somebody says something doesn’t make it law,” said Tamar to paparazzi in an airport. “I’m not even finna defend my relationship to anybody. Ever. This is a marriage. This is not my baby daddy. This is not my boyfriend. We don’t live together. Starz Execs Refuse To Cast Chris Brown To Appear On “Power” Earlier this week, 50 Cent took to Instagram to defend “his boy” Chris Brown against the cop’s overzealous response to the accusations put forth by f**kgirl Baylee Curran. As he says, 50’s relationship with Chris goes way back and to that end, he was looking forward to giving him a role on his hit show “Power”. However, the Starz execs put the kibosh on Breezy’s appearance and he was NOT happy about it according to PageSix Chris Brown “lost it” after he was booted from 50 Cent’s show “Power” just before he allegedly pulled a gun on a former beauty pageant contestant. Sources tell us that Fiddy had promised his friend Brown a major role on his hit Starz show, but network execs put a stop to the plan. A source close to Brown told us, “50 promised Chris a big role on ‘Power,’ playing a drug dealer. But 50 didn’t consult the network first, and execs were not happy when they found out about it.” The source continued, “The network insisted that Chris’ casting was not going to happen, because of fears about his anger issues. There was a big blowup, and they had to tell Chris he was not going to get the role. The news was delivered to him early Monday. He was livid.” Despite “the man” putting bangin’ the gavel, 50 ain’t trying to hear it… On Thursday, 50 Cent was still insisting he’ll get Brown on the show, despite the network’s reservations. He told Page Six, “Tune into ‘Power’ next season, because you will see Chris Brown.” We can’t think of a better show for a person with “anger issues” to play a role on. The 49ers QB has refused to stand up for the national anthem during some recent pre-season NFL Games. Kaepernick, who’s biracial and was adopted by white parents, said he is “not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color.” Kaep said that he didn’t run his actions by anybody prior to sitting out the national anthem. “I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed.” According to USA Today his team will not be punishing him for exercising how he feels about AmeriKKKa: Kaepernick is 28. Malcolm X was 28 when he came out of prison with an evolving self-awareness. I’m twice that old but constantly working on self-awareness. And so is this nation, which Kaepernick shone a light on in his own way. There’s nothing in NFL policy mandating that players must stand for the anthem, as much as you know the image-conscious, corporate-backed league stands on the principles of patriotism. The 49ers haven’t admonished Kaepernick, either, recognizing the American principles of self-expression while also pointing out liberties afforded U.S. citizens. It’s a fine line, and the Niners and NFL had surely better realize that other cases could be just around the corner as societal concerns continue to stay in the headlines — which go far beyond the world of football as Colin Kaepernick reminded us.
