Mark Wahlberg Apologizes For Inane 9-11 Remark

Give Mark Wahlberg credit for a swift, simple and seemingly sincere apology after a boast that he would have fended off 9/11 hijackers and prevented a plane from crashing. For reasons unknown, he said this to Men’s Journal . The quote: “If I was on the [hijacked] plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘Okay, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'” This came up because Mark was initially booked on one of the fights that was hijacked, only to change it serendipitously. He mused about what might’ve been. It did not go over well. Wahlberg’s reps promptly issued a statement from the 40-year-old Contraband star admitting the foolishness of his statements and expressing remorse. “To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would’ve done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible,” Wahlberg wrote. “I deeply apologize to the families of the victims.” “My answer came off as insensitive, and that was certainly not my intention.”

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky: Expecting!

Chris Hemsworth has a very busy 2012 in front of him. The actor will play a key role in the summer blockbuster The Avengers and has also now confirmed that he’s expecting his first child with wife Elsa Pataky. You can’t ask for more,” Pataky tells

Mark Wahlberg Claims He Could’ve Fended Off 9/11 Hijackers

If only Mark Wahlberg were on one of the planes hijacked on September 11, 2001. We don’t mean that to suggest that we wish Mark were dead – that’s precisely the point! In an interview with Men’s Journal , the Contraband star claims that if he were on board that fateful day, the storyline would’ve been much different. “If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did,” he says. He’s not speaking metaphorically, he’s apparently serious. Mark adds: “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land this somewhere safely, don’t worry.'” Presumably, he’s kidding. He can’t think he would have been able to fight off multiple hijackers and land a plane single-handedly. We hope. But the question remains. Is this kind of boast insulting to the dead passengers and their families? Especially those on Flight 93, who basically died to protect others? UPDATE: Wahlberg has apologized, saying: “To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive. It was certainly not my intention.” [Photo: WENN.com]

Landon Collins Commits to Alabama Over LSU, Mom Far From Pleased

Prized high school football recruit Landon Collins chose Alabama over his home state LSU Tigers, a decision which didn’t sit well with some Louisianans. Chief among those upset with his choice? His mother! The Geismar (La.) Dutchtown HS star made his commitment live on ESPN during the annual Under Armour High School Football All America Game, family by his side. Collins, a safety who is the #15 overall recruit in the nation, was quickly upstaged by her as he announced his intention to “Roll Tide Roll” next fall. Rather than offer excited words of support, Collins’ mom dropped a “Geaux Tigers” chant and other pseudo attacks against her own son, plus some amazing eye rolls. Justin Bieber Debuts New Song: Listen, Watch Now!

We’d rather have a Mustang convertible , but this isn’t an awful consolation gift. Justin Bieber debuted a new single this week, telling those in attendance at his Home for the Holidays convert at Massey Hall in Canada, that the track may be included on his next album. It’s titled “Be Alright” and, as Justin says simply in the following video, it’s a “love song,” one meant to convey a message to one’s significant others: in the end, no matter how bad things get, everything is gonna be alright. Watch/listen now and then sound off: What do you think? Justin Bieber – Be Alright (Live)

Bon Jovi Death Hoax Creator Confesses, Cites Irritation With Overexposed Singer

Living, breathing rocker and New Year’s Eve star Jon Bon Jovi showed off his impressive physique on a family Christmas vacation, while doing a little reading. Nice. As you can see, the Internet hoax that proclaimed Jon Bon Jovi dead earlier this month was B.S. – helpfully cleared up by the singer himself – and thank goodness. What kind of person actually starts a Twitter hoax to kill off Bon Jovi, you ask? Well, we now know, as the person responsible for starting the rumor confessed! Pennsylvania musician Jeffrey Goho told the Asbury Park Press (N.J.) he started a fake Twitter account in mid-December with the intention of offing Jon Bon. He reported that the “Wanted Dead or Alive” singer passed away on tour in his native New Jersey. Since then, “I’ve gotten a lot of backlash from it,” he says. Stunning news right there. Goho recalls how it got started: “All I heard was ‘Bon Jovi this,’ ‘Bon Jovi starting a restaurant.’ The Advil commercial. It was like, ‘Jeez, (Bon Jovi) was a household name due to music, not business.” “Long story short, [my band and I] got so worked up in the conversation, I just kind of took the liberty and started (the rumor), because I was so irritated.” Makes sense. Totally worth fake killing someone over. Goho said that within 24 hours his account was “slammed” with hate mail. “I’m not proud of this,’’ he said, but denies he had any self-promoting motive. “No, no, no, I didn’t do this as a business endeavor. As stupid as it sounds, I was just irritated. It was wrong to do and I almost kind of hurt myself.” “Ultimately, the more thought I gave to it I realized that his endeavors, his business endeavors, have actually made the tri-state area prosper, hence more musicians have more available places to go, more people to play to, and I was quite wrong.” Hey, at least he can admit it now. Demi Lovato Goes Off on Disney for Eating Disorder Joke

The folks at Disney forced Demi Lovato out of the Christmas spirit last night. The former star of Sonny With a Chance – who left that series earlier this year to battle personal problems that included an eating disorder – took MAJOR exception to a joke on the Disney Channel show Shake It Up this week, as a character quipped: “I could just eat you up, well if I ate.” The line promoted the following Tweets from Lovato: I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress’ from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about that very disease… And is it just me or are the actress’ [on Disney Channel] getting THINNER AND THINNER…. I miss the days of RAVEN, and LIZZIE MCGUIRE… Dear Disney Channel, EATING DISORDERS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT. The network, meanwhile, has actually responded and agreed with Lovato, releasing the following statement: “We hear you & are pulling both episodes as quickly as possible & reevaluating them … It’s NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!” Way to go, Demi! And happy holidays! Go stuff your face. You’ve earned it.

Sarah Palin: Definitely Running (in Half-Marathon)

Not unlike when she ran for V.P., Sarah Palin finished second this weekend in an Iowa half-marathon. Unlike the ’08 election, though, second place is impressive! Conveniently vague on whether she’s running for president , basking in attention without having to do any real campaigning, she was fully committed to this run. She finished second among women 40-49 with a respectable time of 1:46.10 in the Storm Lake, Iowa, event. That’s just over eight minutes a mile for 13 miles! Sarah Palin actually did some legwork! A tweet from Palin mentioned the run: “Thank you, Storm Lake, Iowa. You put on a great event & we loved meeting some great folks in your beautiful town today!” She did not announce her intention to run prior to the event, though, and competed under her maiden name , Sarah Heath, listing her residence as Des Moines. As for whether she’ll run for the White House: Should she?
