Justin Bieber returned last night for a brief rest from the international leg of his Believe tour. But it was anything but a happy homecoming. Sources confirm to TMZ that the singer has been accused of battery by his neighbor in Calabasas, California. Authorities are investigating the incident, but Bieber was allegedly involved in an “intense argument” with this unidentified man around 9 a.m. today. The altercation stemmed from the accuser walking on to Justin’s property and complaining that guests there had been throwing loud parties while the artist was abroad. L.A. County Sheriff’s spokesperson Steve Whitmore says the neighbor told deputies that Bieber got physical with him, a charge other sources deny. Those close to Bieber confirm he did get into it with the man, but only verbally, and that Justin eventually retreated to his house so security could lead the man away. This allegation follows another strange incident in the Recently Turbulent and Confusing Times of Justin Bieber: he went through airport security in Poland yesterday without a shirt on . And last month, of course, Bieber flipped the eff out on a cameraman in London. Expect a Tweet or two from Bieber later today regarding the situation and expect THG to provide updates as news breaks.
If you’ve been following reports about Iron Man 3 , then you know that Gwyneth Paltrow’s character Pepper Potts dons an armored suit during the Mandarin’s helicopter attack on Tony Stark’s home. But now you can actually see her in the suit in this international TV spot for the movie. Gywnnie looks great, but I’m more interested in the Mandarin’s affectation-free “You’ll never see me coming” voiceover. Check out the clip below (via Indiewire), listen to Ben Kingsley say the line, then check out the American trailer that hit the web earlier in March and listen to Kingsley say the same line. See what I mean? The international version is much more plainspoken (and preferable, if you ask me). I’ve asked a Disney spokeswoman if a decision has been made to eliminate Kingsley’s weird dialect or if the Mandarin’s less affected voiceover is unique to one of the film’s international releases. Weider grew an empire of magazines, fitness equipment, doubtful dietary supplements and Olympic-style contests featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. As a teenager in Montreal, he hated being roughed up by neighborhood hooligans, discovered bodybuilding in a magazine and bought into it for life. He developed a V-shaped torso with bulging biceps and abs like Michelangelo’s David, and was still ripped and jut-jawed in his 70s and 80s. In the intervening decades, Weider moved to the United States as a young man, founded many of the world’s most popular bodybuilding magazines. He founded Muscle and Fitness, Flex, Men’s Fitness and Shape. They had 25 million readers and were crammed with photos of greased bodybuilders. Celebrities were also drawn to Weider. Among them: Sylvester Stallone, Cher and Schwarzenegger , who considered Weider a mentor and knew him well. Riding waves of post-World War II fascination with bodybuilding, Weider and his brother Ben founded the International Federation of Body Builders. He sponsored the Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia contests and other competitions for men and women for over 60 years and in some 170 countries.

New pope but same old conservative ways… New Pope Is Against Gay Marriage And Abortion Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, a 76-year-old Argentinean, was chosen as the first Latin American pope on Wednesday . He will lead the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics as Pope Franci s. While his selection may be historic, it may also mean more of the same when it comes to gay rights in the Catholic Church. Via HuffPo reports: Pope Francis is a conservative who is anti-gay marriage and anti-gay adoption. He has described same-sex marriage as the work of the devil and a “destructive attack on God’s plan.” He has also said that gay adoption is a form of discrimination against children. In 2010, Francis championed against a bill for same-sex marriage and gay adoption, according to the National Catholic Register. “[T]he Argentine people will face a situation whose outcome can seriously harm the family,” he wrote to the four monasteries in Argentina. “At stake is the identity and survival of the family: father, mother and children. At stake are the lives of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At stake is the total rejection of God’s law engraved in our hearts.” He went on to describe it as a “‘move’ of the Father of Lies who seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God” and asked for lawmakers to “not act in error.” In John 8:44, the Father of Lies is the devil. Argentina approved same-sex marriage in 2010, making it the first Latin American country to legalize the union, the New York Times previously reported. The country is also progressive when it comes to contraception. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has promoted free contraception and artificial insemination, the Associated Press notes. In the past, Francis has clashed with the Argentinean government over his stance on these issues. GLAAD President Herndon Graddick responded to the election of the new pope in a statement obtained by The Huffington Post. For decades the Catholic hierarchy has been in need of desperate reform. In his life, Jesus condemned gays zero times. In Pope Benedict’s short time in the papacy, he made a priority of condemning gay people routinely. This, in spite of the fact, that the Catholic hierarchy had been in collusion to cover up the widespread abuse of children within its care. We hope this Pope will trade in his red shoes for a pair of sandals and spend a lot less time condemning and a lot more time foot-washing. Graddick also specifically addressed Francis’ previous comments about gay adoption being a “discrimination against children.” “The real discrimination against children is the pedophilia that has run rampant in the Catholic Church with little more than collusion from the Vatican,” he said. Along with GLAAD, Stonewall Chief Executive Ben Summerskill responded to the new pope’s election, saying: ‘We hope Pope Francis shows more Christian love and charity to the world’s 420 million lesbian, gay and bisexual people than his predecessor.” Despite the pope’s prior anti-gay sentiments, Francis’ official biographer, Sergio Rubin, defended him as a noble man. “Is Bergoglio a progressive – a liberation theologist even? No,” he told the AP. “He’s no third-world priest. Does he criticize the International Monetary Fund, and neoliberalism? Yes. Does he spend a great deal of time in the slums? Yes.” It’s just the same old song with the Catholics. To lead the new generation, they needed a truly progressive Pope who would moderately lead and target issues such as a women’s rights, gay marriage, pedophilia cases within the church, the AIDS epidemic and poverty. Instead, they just hired the same guy to do a new job.
If, like me, you’ve been spending way too much time puzzling over the international villain of mystery known as The Mandarin , I have some clues and an out-there theory. I’ll give you the information first. In an interview with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and Iron Man 3 d irector Shane Black that was posted Monday on Marvel.com , the two men shed a little bit more light on the character, played by Ben Kingsley . In the Marvel Comics universe, the Mandarin is Chinese, but in the Marvel movie universe he’s more of an multicultural mutt, in part, because Asian audiences are so hugely important to tentpole movies today that no studio wants to risk offending a nation of 1.4 billion. (That’s almost 20 percent of the world’s population in pie-chart terms.) According to Feige, the Mandarin “is recognizable and frightening and fearful in a very sort of ripped-from-the-headlines, Osama Bin Laden sort of way.” At the same time, he explained, Black, who directed Iron Man 3 and co-wrote the script with Drew Pearce saw him as analogous “to Marlon Brando’s character in Apocalypse Now , Colonel Kurtz. He was a guy who’s gone off the reservation, who’s incorporating all these different symbols and iconography into his worldview.” And here’s Black’s take from that same interview: “He represents every terrorist in a way, but he specifically has crafted himself in the manner of the Mandarin, of the warlord, and I think that’s great because you get to do the comic book [version of the villain], but yet you don’t have to deal with the specifics of the Fu Man Chu stereotyping. We aren’t saying he’s Chinese, we’re saying he, in fact, draws a cloak around himself of Chinese symbols and dragons because it represents his obsession with Sun Tzu and ancient arts of warfare that he has studied.” Which brings me to my theory. Black’s reference to Sun Tzu reminds me of another long-deposed warlord who cloaked himself in the words of that famous Chinese military strategist and The Art of War author: Creative Artists Agency co-founder Michael Ovitz, who once had much of Hollywood by the short hairs and did business out of an I.M. Pei-designed shrine to his success. Black was a CAA client during the agency’s 1980s heyday, and some of the lines that the Mandarin utters in the last trailer, which I’ve posted below, could pass for agent speak. How do I know. Imagine Entourage ‘s Ari Gold saying: “Mr. Stark, today is the first day of what’s left of your life” or “Do you want an empty life or a meaningful death?” See what I mean?
