‘American Idol’ Elimination Brings ‘Relief,’ Joshua Ledet Says

‘It sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that,’ ‘Idol’ castoff tells MTV News. By Kelly Marino Joshua Ledet Photo: MTV News “American Idol” finalist Joshua Ledet won’t be taking anyone to church during this season’s finale next week, leaving bluesy rocker Phillip Phillips and budding diva Jessica Sanchez to compete for the title. The 20-year-old powerhouse received a record number of standing ovations from the panel and has been proclaimed as one of the best contestants in the history of the show. So, coming in third place with the lowest total of the 90 million votes cast this week might come as a shock to some, but Ledet says it was more like a relief. “I just felt relief,” the soulful singer told MTV News backstage after the show. “As soon as they said Phillip was going on, I felt a lot of pressure came off of me and I was — I’m not going to say I was happy — but it sucks having a lot of pressure on you, knowing that you have to do this and that and this and that. But when they said I wasn’t going on, I was just like, ‘OK. Now I can get this song out of the way and then go home and go to sleep or do something fun.’ ” But make no mistake: It wasn’t just about getting his farewell song out of the way. After belting out “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown, the Louisiana native claims he was so overwhelmed, he couldn’t fully recall what the judges were saying to him when they came to console him after the show. “I honestly don’t remember what they were saying because I think I was so emotional,” the preacher’s son explained. “I just remember Jennifer [Lopez] telling me never to give up and that my career is going to go higher from here on out and to just keep believing in myself. “Definitely, it gives me a lot of hope seeing Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert and Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry. All of these people that didn’t win have had a lot of huge careers, so hopefully that can happen for me.” That being said, Ledet’s career probably could take off if Jimmy Iovine has anything to do with it. For weeks, the show’s music mentor has continuously hinted at signing the singer, even claiming to know the exact type of album he should make — a bit ironic, considering the Interscope head admitted wrongdoing by picking Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama” for the gospel sensation to perform before being voted off. Thankfully, though, Ledet has no regrets. “I don’t regret any performance that I’ve done on the show,” Ledet said. “People can say one thing, but it’s what I feel in my heart and how I feel about something. So, I don’t think I’ll let people tell me what to do as a person if it’s not true to me in my heart. “I definitely did like the ‘No More Drama’ song,” he added. “It’s not a lot of melody, but I don’t think it’s a competition song. It’s just one of those great songs that you can perform at the Grammys or something.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Game Says Going Independent May Be A ‘Really, Really Good Move’

Rapper’s fifth LP, F.I.V.E., could be his last album with Interscope. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Felicia ‘The Poetess’ Morris The Game Photo: MTV News Game only has one LP left on his Interscope contract, and after he drops the follow-up to 2011’s The R.E.D. Album, the platinum-selling Compton rapper will contemplate his musical independence. “Independent. That seems like a really, really good move where I can capitalize off of all the finances being made off of my music for once. But, I don’t know, I kinda like having a lot of help, a lot of assistance from a big label,” Game told MTV News on Thursday. “I don’t know, maybe we’ll have a meeting about a lot of money or I’ll be talking to my conscience.” Earlier this month, Game announced his new album title, F.I.V.E., to XXLMag.com , but it may be some time before it hits shelves. “I haven’t even started working on it yet. I first came up with the album title, which is F.I.V.E., and then came up with its acronym, which is Fear Is Victory’s Evolution,” he explained to MTV News. “It’s got a good concept, and once the budget is open on that I’ll get to rolling.” Game, who was the subject of Thursday night’s “Behind the Music” on VH1, is reluctant to offer up anything resembling a release date due to the multiple push-backs that he’s experienced with The R.E.D. Album. “You what I learned from this last album is to never give anybody a date to anything; I’ll let the label do that when it’s time,” he said. On Wednesday, Game released his “The City” video with Kendrick Lamar. But it looks like that will be the last single he drops off of The R.E.D. Album. “Personally I’d like to just move on and get the budget open for my fifth album, which is something I don’t think Interscope is too much in a rush to do, being that it’s my last contractual, obligated album on the label,” he said. “I would love to just keep it rolling.” Should Game go independent or stick with Interscope? Azealia Banks Calls T.I. “Corny” For Defending Iggy Azalea

New jacks taking shots at vets? Cold game. In a recent interview with DJ Drama, T.I. introduced his new “Hustle Gang,” which includes Australian female rapper Iggy Azalea, who made XXL Magazine’s 2012 Freshman cover. Previously, another upcoming female rapper, Azealia Banks, didn’t hesitate to question Azalea’s XXL Freshman selection and also took the Interscope Records artist to task for using the term “slave master” in one of her rhymes… Continue

50 Cent Wants To Release Back-To-Back Albums

50 tells Forbes he has ‘recorded so much material’ since last album in 2009. By Rob Markman 50 Cent Photo: Kristian Dowling/Getty Images 50 Cent may be fighting with his record label to release his oft-delayed fifth studio album, but that hasn’t stopped the G-Unit general from planning for his sixth LP. Still no word when G-Unit and Interscope will release Fif’s next album, but when they do, the get Rich or Die Tryin’ MC wants to hit the shelves again instead of hitting the road. “This time I’m not sure if I’ll tour the world like I did on my last project, ’cause it makes my album cycle two years long,” 50 told Forbes in a video interview. “So I think I’d like to launch this record and come right back and launch another record following it.” Releasing this fifth album has been a constant battle for 50. The rapper blasted Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre last summer, but later calmed his angst and made peace. Earlier this month, 50 took to Twitter and once gain blasted Interscope after a song slated for his album leaked onto the Internet. “I have lost all faith in the team I’m on,” he wrote. A few days later he backed down. “Discovered a computer glitch leaked my song,” 50 tweeted on January 8. “Sorry to team at Interscope for over reacting!” Whatever the holdup, there has been a noticeable gap between Fif’s retail releases. His last album, Before I Self Destruct, hit shelves in November 2009 and the Queens MC has amassed so many songs since then that he has enough for two projects. “It’s been three years since my last album, so I’ve recorded so much material that I’m really excited about trying to get those ideas to the general public so they get a chance to hear it and appreciate it,” he said. Singer will drop official version of ‘Gimme All Your Luvin’ in late January. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Getty Images After rumors hit the Net on Wednesday that Madonna had signed with Interscope , fans waited to see if the ink had really dried on the contract. On Thursday (December 15), a rep for the singer confirmed the industry chatter to MTV News. In addition to signing with the label, Madge will drop her still-untitled album by the end of March. Madonna has already completed work on the LP and her single “Gimme All Your Luvin” will be released by the end of January, according to a press release. A demo version of the song, featuring rappers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj , leaked back in November. The three ladies recently shot a video for the track and made headlines when Nicki tweeted about a kiss she shared with Madonna on set. L.A. Reid Regrets Dropping Lady Gaga: “I Was Having A Bad Day”

More here:

L.A. Reid – the man behind Rihanna, Usher and Mariah Carey’s careers – recently admitted he could’ve taken credit for Lady Gaga’s success too, but was having a bad day when he decided to drop her – only months after originally signing her to Island Def Jam. Of course, Gaga went on to sign with Interscope and L.A. moved to Epic Records, but here’s what he had to say about what could have been: “One day, this artist came to my office. She played piano, she had on white go-go boots, thigh-high boots. She sat down at the piano and she played and she sang and when she was done, I said, ‘You are an amazing artist, a true artist and you will change music’ and I signed her. Her name was Lady Gaga. “Then a few months later, I got her demos and it was a work in progress and I was having a bad day. A bad day. And I said, ‘You know what? I really don’t like it. Let her have her freedom. Let her go find her career.’ And it was the worst thing I’ve ever done.” Did L.A. Reid Sign Ciara? OutKast Signing With L.A. Reid’s Epic Records

“Mancaves”: Yay Or Nay?

Read the original:

Just because a couple decides to move in together doesn’t mean that you each need to lose your own personal space. In fact, having your designated “chick spot” and “mancave” can be extremely beneficial in domestic partnerships. Just as I like my closet to be my own place, men want their own nook of the house to make as “bro” as they need to. Surprisingly, however, I have found that there are some people who are against mancaves and feel that living together should mean every room is designed with each other in mind. Here are both sides of the story- let us know what you think! From the “Everyone Needs Their Own Cave” girl : Whether it’s a calender of girls in bikinis or every possible video game known to mankind, men have their own ways of decorating their crash spot. While you might not appreciate their favorite jerseys hung up in the kitchen, leaving their mancave up to them can give you both a sense of independence in your own home. Let him make the basement his own and you will get in fewer arguments about your living arrangements. When he needs to just kick it and do his own thing, you’ll feel a lot more comfortable when he goes to the basement to play some pool rather than the local bar. And let’s face it, if he’s going to come home with greasy take out, dirty shoes, and his best guy friends after shooting some hoops, you’d much rather have them enjoy it in his comfort spot rather than on the white living room couches that you just had dry-cleaned. From the “Moving In Together Means Sharing All Of Your Space” girl : If you’re moving in together but you still need designated spots of your own, then you’re not ready to move in together. You should design your house together in a way that both of you are comfortable. Setting up your home so that you can be apart from each other when you can’t stand each other is definitely NOT starting off on the right foot. Instead, make your whole home a comfort zone for both of you and you will find that your entire house is your escape. What are your thoughts on mancaves? It seems to make sense that your own space can provide a sanctuary for you to just kick back. But then again, is designing a mancave setting you up for a relationship with separation and necessary space apart? Fill us in on what you think!! Online Stalking: Helpful Or Hindering?
