Erykah Badu Pays Fine For ‘Window Seat’ Video

Singer hit with six months of probation for stripping in Dallas streets. By Gil Kaufman Erykah Badu Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images The global publicity bump Erykah Badu got for stripping down to her essentials and walking the streets of Dallas for her “Window Seat” video shoot was probably well worth the $500 fine she finally paid last week. A Dallas city spokesperson said the singer paid the maximum fine and agreed to serve six months probation for the stunt, in which she was filmed slowly taking off her clothes as she walked through Dealey Plaza, the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. The incident took place on March 13, and a defiant Badu entered a not guilty plea in April to a charge of disorderly conduct. “I thought it was a move for women and men and children who feel they weren’t good enough,” Badu told MTV News on April 8 about the controversial clip, in which she is shot down at the end. ” ‘This is just me. I’m good enough.’ I felt it was important enough to do. More pros than cons.” According to a statement from City of Dallas public information officer Jose Torres, Badu’s probation will end around February 11, 2011, and she faces the revocation of her probation if she commits any city, state or federal offenses during her six-month term. The Texas native must also notify the court about any address changes within 10 days of moving. If her probation is violated, Badu will have a criminal conviction on her record. Badu didn’t file for an official permit to shoot the video. The directors of the video, Chike and Coodie, told MTV News that they were well aware of potential attention from law-enforcement officials. They also said Badu was fully prepared for the consequences . “We had bail money and everything,” Coodie said. “I think she really wanted to get arrested and even make a bigger message.” A spokesperson for Badu could not be reached for comment at press time. Jay-Z Is Hip-Hop’s Cash King, According To ‘Forbes’

Mogul earned $63 million over the last 12 months, according to business magazine. By Jayson Rodriguez Jay-Z Photo: WireImage For the third time in four years, Jay-Z has been crowned the “Hip-Hop Cash King” by Forbes . The Brooklyn lyricist topped the business magazine’s annual ranking of high-rolling hip-hop stars by earning $63 million over the past 12 months, thanks to business ventures like a high-grossing tour, real estate investments and the successful Broadway production “Fela!” Jay-Z’s income more than doubled the total brought home by 2010 runner-up Diddy , who clocked in at #2 on the list with $30 million earned thanks to endorsement deals and roles in films like “Get Him to the Greek.” Akon came in third, earning $21 million from endorsement deals and his signing of Lady Gaga to his Interscope-backed label KonLive. Lil Wayne landed at the #4 spot with $20 million in earnings, most of which came through touring; the rapper’s tours last year, “I Am Music” and “America’s Most Wanted,” were the biggest hip-hop outings of 2009 . Dre. Dre came in at #5, earning $17 million through a combination of album royalties from his past projects, executive producing a pair of Eminem releases and income from his headphone line Beats by Dre. Ludacris , Snoop Dogg , Timbaland , Pharrell and Kanye West rounded out the top 10. Jay-Z has topped the Forbes list every year since its 2007 inception with one exception; in 2008, 50 Cent came in at #1 when the magazine estimated his income at more than $150 million. The G-Unit boss came in at a distant #14 this year, and he was tied with his mentor Eminem; both multi-platinum superstars raked in $8 million. Drake was among those making their debut on the list, ranking #11. Related Artists Jay-Z Diddy Akon Lil Wayne Dr. Dre Kanye West Ludacris Snoop Dogg Timbaland Pharrell Williams G-Unit Drake

Carter “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Sony, you’re out. 19 Entertainment and Simon Fuller, the creator behind “American Idol,” have lined up a multiyear deal with Universal Music Group for its Interscope Geffen A&M division to market, promote and distribute “Idol” artists’ albums. The deal with Sony produced hits for Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, but Billboard.com reports that the chart-topping success for those two acts hasn’t been matched. Reuters reports that the deal is for a minimum of three years. “With ‘Idol’ celebrating our 10th season, I wanted to inject some new power and weight behind our brand,” Fuller said in a statement. “We have been quietly delivering hits relentlessly for nine seasons, and Lucian Grainge and [Interscope Geffen A&M chairman] Jimmy Iovine’s ambition, commitment and determination to push the boundaries and go even further with ‘Idol’ was very compelling. It is exciting to have the world’s biggest show partnered with the world’s biggest music company.” Since the show’s inception in 2001, “American Idol” has sold more music than any other TV show and has moved more than 100 million units in North America and more than 120 million songs on iTunes. “We like delivering hits and new artists,” Grainge said in a statement. “UMG and ‘American Idol’ is the right combination at the right time. Dr. Dre Says Leaked ‘Under Pressure’ Was ‘An Incomplete Song’

Dre issues statement about the collaboration with Jay-Z that hit the Internet this week. By Shaheem Reid Dr. Dre Photo: Interscope Records Not this way, says Dr. Dre . He doesn’t want people to hear any of his music before it is done. On Wednesday, an incomplete version of the much-hyped Dre and Jay-Z duet “Under Pressure” leaked to the Internet, and the Doc responded on Thursday (June 17) on the Interscope website. Simply titled “Message from Dre,” the statement reads: “I want to set the record straight for everybody who’s been waiting to hear my music. The song that’s out on the Internet is an incomplete song that I’m still working on. When it’s ready, you’ll be hearing it from me.” “Under Pressure” is a song from Dre’s much-hyped Detox album . Neither the song nor the LP has a release date. In the meantime, Interscope and Dre are focused on releasing the potentially blockbuster project from Eminem, Recovery, which lands officially on Monday (June 22). The bootleg of “Under Pressure” has no chorus, at least not the version that was leaked. Keep in mind, Dre has been known to do a few different versions of his songs before he feels they are ready for public consumption. The leaked version featured the Compton icon batting leadoff. “The long-awaited Detox, bitch,” Dre said to commence the song. “But maybe I don’t wanna stop/ Maybe I don’t wanna quit/ Maybe I like ho’s/ Maybe I don’t want a wife/ Maybe I’m psycho/ … Maybe we need to breathe some life in this sh–/ Maybe we are the life of this sh–.” After a space with no vocals, where the chorus would presumably go, Jay-Z arrives on the song. “Dre, I think I need my sponsor,” he says. “Trying to grow, but I just can’t seem ta/ Having trouble cleaning up, I’m like FEMA/ All these little haters got me back with the nina/ Got me bringing guns to work, Gilbert Arenas,” the Jiggaman adds later in his bars. “I’m in this party/ I’m up to no good/ And I should be ducking these clubs, Tiger Woods.” Besides Jay-Z, the collaborators that Dre has had in the lab with him for Detox have been pretty impressive — as expected. Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, the Game, Nas, R. Kelly, Scott Storch, T.I., Nas, 50 Cent and Eminem have all recorded with Dre over the past few years for the album. What do you think of the leaked version of “Under Pressure”? Is it possible for Detox to live up to the hype? Share your opinions in the comments. Related Artists Dr. Dre Jay-Z
