Two of the dozen or so lawyers in two states involved with Wade’s split from high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches tell Gossip Extra that the past few months in the six-year battle will undoubtedly run the total tab up to that stunning figure! “We were at about $8 million last year, and now we’re definitely at $10 million,” said one of the lawyers, asking not to be named in the story. “He’s paying more for lawyers than what he is paying his wife for the settlement. “It was a complicated case, but it may have become personal.” I’m told exclusively that D Wade has been paying for his and Funches’ attorneys automatically through a special bank account funded partly with a small portion of his Heat salary, and partly with endorsements. “My gut feeling is that he doesn’t even know how much he’s paying (in legal bills),” the source added. Amanda Bynes Fights For Her Freedom According to TMZ Amanda Bynes will be in court Friday –TMZ has learned — and we’re told she will mount a ferocious fight for her freedom. Sources involved in the case tell TMZ … Amanda will be transported from the psychiatric hospital — where she’s been staying against her will for the last 2 weeks — to a courthouse where her parents will be asking a judge for a temporary conservatorship. We’re told Amanda will be transported by a hospital vehicle and accompanied by her lawyer. The only snag would be if Amanda goes off the rails before the hearing. Sources tell us Amanda will be speaking with the judge — possibly in chambers — so he can get a read on her mental competency. If the parents prevail, the temporary conservatorship will last until Sept. 30, when a full-blown conservatorship hearing will take place. If the parents get their way, Amanda will go back to the psych ward for further treatment. If Amanda prevails, she will walk out of the courthouse a free woman. Somewhere Drake is laughing.
CNN medical expert Dr. Sanjay Gupta announced last night that he has reversed his blanket opposition to marijuana use, saying he once misled the public. Gupta, whose documentary on weed airs on Sunday, issued a 180 on Piers Morgan Tonight and in an op-ed called “Why I Changed My Mind On Weed.” Sanjay Gupta Apologizes For Misleading Weed Stance “I have apologized for some of the earlier reporting because I think, you know, we’ve been terribly and systematically misled in this country for some time,” he said. “And I did part of that misleading.” He said that while he formerly derided medical marijuana supporters, he has since done research that had shown him how beneficial it could be: “I mistakenly believed the Drug Enforcement Agency listed marijuana as a schedule 1 substance because of sound scientific proof,” he writes. “Surely, they have quality reasoning as to why marijuana is in the category of the most dangerous drugs that have ‘no accepted medicinal use and a high potential for abuse.'” “They didn’t have science to support that claim, and I now know that when it comes to marijuana neither of those things are true.” “It doesn’t have a high potential for abuse, and there are very legitimate medical applications. The name was selected from over 5,000 submissions on Twitter, according to Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President of Syfy Programming. “Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2,” Vitale tells EW . “This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon.
