Days after Rehtaeh Parsons took her own life, Canadian police say they will reopen their investigation into the 2011 rape that eventually led to this 17-year old’s suicide. Parsons, a high school student from Halifax, Nova Scotia, was taken off life support Sunday after attempting to hang herself on Thursday. Her parents say their daughter never got over an alleged 2011 incident in which Rehtaeh was gang raped and a photo of the assault was posted online. But the culprits were never caught and now the Halifax Regional Police have released a statement saying they are reviewing the case “in light of new and credible information that has recently been brought forward.” They did not say much else, except to confirm this new information is NOT from an “online source.” Wrote Rehtaeh’s mother on Facebook this week: “Rehtaeh is gone today because of the four boys that thought that raping a 15-year-old girl was OK and to distribute a photo to ruin her spirit and reputation would be fun. All the bullying and messaging and harassment that never let up are also to blame. Lastly, the justice system failed her.” Parsons’ father, meanwhile, harped on the final point, saying his daughter died of disappointment and urged people to do “something.” Let’s hope now the police finally will.
Steven Gibson, 39, was allegedly the target of a family murder plot hatched by his wife Michelle and their son Steven Jr., 15, who took part in stabbing him. Officials concluded this after a month-long investigation into his murder. In a frantic 911 call on March 1, Michelle Gibson tearfully told police about a grisly discovery she made at 2 a.m. in the family’s Peoria, Ariz., home. “There’s blood everywhere!” Gibson cried. “I’m with my kids.” “I just got home and my husband’s out in the garage dead!” But authorities now say it was all a sinister act on her part. “This is a complete shock to the rest of the family,” Amber McGonagill, 23, Steven Gibson’s stepdaughter, said. “I have no clue why my mom would do this.” “My dad was a loving man and was not abusive in any way.” Michelle Gibson, 41, allegedly offered $1,000 each to two of her son’s friends, telling them “they needed to kill [her husband] before he killed her or [his son].” The plan was to use chloroform to knock Steven Gibson out, drive him to a nearby park, shoot him in the head, and make it look like a drug deal gone bad. The mom also allegedly told the two boys that they needed to make sure her husband’s body was found “so a money inheritance could be paid out.” Later that evening, one of the two boys, Erik McBee, 16, allegedly beat a sleeping Steven Gibson in the head with a baseball bat, according to prosecutors. Steven Jr. then later “drove [a] large knife he was holding into his father’s chest at least three times. [McBee] then took the knife and slit the victim’s throat.” The scheme fell apart when McBee, who was helping Steven Jr. move the body, heard police sirens, fled the scene and later turned himself in to police. Michelle Gibson, Steven Jr. and McBee have each been charged with first-degree murder and remain in police custody. Police have not yet offered a motive. The Gibson household has a record of domestic violence calls between the parents, but they consistently refused to press charges, Peoria, Az., police say. Even more arrests could occur depending on how the investigation plays out, as this is a complex case with a large amount of evidence still to review.

Octomom Nadya Suleman is under investigation for alleged welfare fraud, according to reports, and the mother of 14 could face jail time as a result. Someone filed a complaint to the L.A. County Dept. of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation (WFP&I), claiming Octo is screwing them over. It’s unclear who sold her out, but the allegation is that Suleman’s been getting various forms of welfare, including food stamps, despite earning a solid income. Nadya made nearly $200,000 in 2012. Octomom porn and all. Under California law, she can legitimately collect public assistance if she earns less than $119,000 a year, which is not as much as you think with 14 kids. Even so, if she made close to $200,000, that’s not even close. The WFP&I is conducting a probe and has already interviewed witnesses to determine if Nadya committed welfare fraud and should be prosecuted. She could be looking at three years in prison if convicted. Proving she knowingly defrauded the state could be a challenge, but we wouldn’t put anything past her, and you know all stones will be unturned.
Red River High School administrators are looking into a photo posted to Twitter from Friday’s state semifinal hockey game in North Dakota that clearly shows a trio of students donning Ku Klux Klan-like robes and hoods. Shane Schuster snapped the picture (above) sand he was “shocked’ at the sight, adding that the fans wore the outfits for about 10-20 minutes. Said Mark Rerick, the Grand Forks Public Schools’ athletics director, after learning of the incident: “After confirming the incident, we notified the administrators at Red River High School who immediately began their investigation. To the best of my knowledge, the students have been identified by the Red River administrators who are continuing their investigation.” Fans at the game were encouraged to dress in white as part of the team’s “whiteout,” but we somehow doubt the school had such outfits in mind. This is the second KKK-related high school scandal of the last few weeks, as students also sported KKK robes in a history class last month in Las Vegas.
Niiiice… ABC Reports : “Spare Time Bowling Center can confirm that a private party did take place on November 3rd, 2012. We neither arranged for (nor paid for) the entertainment that was provided at the party. Spare Time has been cooperating fully with the investigation and will continue to do so.” In a press release, Police accused 33-year-old Viger of “organizing, managing, and paying” for the party where two strippers performed “personal and intimate dances for some party attendees.” The strippers, who work for the company Tops in Bottoms, aren’t facing charges. The CBS affiliate WRGB says the strippers didn’t know the attendees were underage and believe the incident is being “blown out of proportion.” Viger could not immediately be reached for comment, but posted on her Facebook page that she and her family have been going through a “difficult time.” South Glens Falls is a small town 200 miles north of New York City. Viger has her first court appearance scheduled for March 7. ABC
A bloody cricket bat is now the center of the investigation into the death of Oscar Pistorius’ model girlfriend, according to a newspaper in South Africa. Police are unsure if Reeva Steenkamp used the bat in self-defense or if the Olympic sprinter used it, either by hitting her or breaking down a door. Steenkamp reportedly hid in the bathroom of his home and was shot four times through the door; a report says her skull may have been crushed as well. The City Press , a paper in their native South Africa, quotes a source as saying, “There was lots of blood on the bat. Forensic tests will show whose blood it was.” Pistorius was charged with murder . He is due back in court next week. On top of the cricket bat , another report indicates that the athlete called his good friend, Justin Divaris, in tears after he realized he had shot Reeva Steenkamp to death. “Reeva had been shot,” Oscar said on the phone, allegedly. “I said to him, ‘What are you talking about? I don’t understand you,’” Justin told the paper. “He then repeated himself — ‘There has been a terrible accident, I shot Reeva.’” Justin raced over to Oscar’s home, only to find it blocked off. “It was very traumatic,” he said. “By the time we got there it was already a crime scene and we weren’t allowed in the house. But we could see Reeva through the door lying there.” “[Oscar] was totally incoherent and just kept saying, ‘My baba, I’ve killed my baba. God take me away,’” Justin continued. “It is so sad. I introduced Reeva to Oscar.” “She was a really, really good friend of mine too and actually had been a friend longer … I don’t understand exactly what happened but the truth will come out.”
Maybe these guys are some of Ricky Rozay’s BFF’s Atlanta Police Arrested In Drug Dealer Protection Investigation Via AJC Federal authorities announced the arrest of 10 metro law enforcement officers Tuesday on charges of arranging protection for a street gang’s drug deals. “Obviously the breadth of the corruption is very troubling,” said U.S. Attorney Sally Yates . “It is certainly the most (officers) this office has charged in a long time.” The case began as a street gang investigation by the federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, whose undercover agents learned that gangs had officers on the payroll for protection, Yates said. The FBI took command of the public corruption aspects of the case. At least one officer recommended that the gang use a school parking lot to exchange drugs for cash because trading backpacks there would not look suspicious, Yates said at a 2 p.m. news conference. The law enforcement officers arrested today were: Atlanta Police Department Officer Kelvin Allen, 42, of Atlanta; DeKalb County Police Department Officers Dennis Duren, 32, of Atlanta and Dorian Williams, 25, of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Forest Park Police Department Sergeants Victor Middlebrook, 44, of Jonesboro, Georgia and Andrew Monroe, 57, of Riverdale, Georgia; MARTA Police Department Officer Marquez Holmes, 45, of Jonesboro, Georgia; Stone Mountain Police Department Officer Denoris Carter, 42, of Lithonia, Georgia, and contract Federal Protective Services Officer Sharon Peters, 43, of Lithonia, Georgia. Agents also arrested two former law enforcement officers: former DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office jail officers Monyette McLaurin, 37, of Atlanta, and Chase Valentine, 44, of Covington, Georgia. The report goes on to say… Some of the officers were retired and some were active duty. The highest rank was sergeant and the payoffs ranged as high as $7,000 per transaction. Each transaction involved at least five kilograms of white girl, which carries a 10 year minimum sentence, Yates said. Officers were involved in multiple transactions, provided escorts to dealers and buyers and offered to provided muscle if necessary to protect their clients, Yates said. Yates said the investigation is ongoing and declined to say whether more officers would be arrested. ATF Special Agent in Charge Scott Sweetow would not name the street gang involved but he suggested the public corruption aspects would be more far-ranging. “I can say this is probably not the last you will be hearing of this case,” he said. This is so sad. Gun violence has claimed another young victim. Via Gawker reports : Police in Greenville, South Carolina, say a 3-year-old boy was killed Friday night after a pink gun he mistook for a toy accidentally discharged. Temorej Smith and his 7-year-old sister were in the bedroom of their unit at The Plantations at Haywood apartments, playing around with a pink handgun. Their parents were out of the house at the time, but their grandparents were reportedly sitting in the nearby living room. As the two siblings were playing with the weapon, it suddenly went off and Temorej sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Greenville Police have since ruled the boy’s death an accident. No charged have been filed, but the investigation continues. Police spokesman Johnathan Bragg said the incident tragically illustrates the importance of securing all household weapons. “If you have guns, if you own guns mostly we would prefer you have them in a lock box,” Bragg told News 4. “At least have them out of the reach of children.” Funeral services for Temorej will be held Wednesday afternoon at Golden View Baptist Church in Fountain Inn. This is so sad… Our condolences to his family. Gun owners, please, please, please be careful about leaving your weapons loaded and accessible to kids!
