Israel stormed Gaza’s humanitarian aid ship – 10 dead people

The Israeli navy has stormed at least one of a convoy of ships carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza strip, amid reports of casualties on board. Some reports say two people have been killed and about 30 injured. Israel has declined to comment. The exact location of the interception is unclear. Israel had warned the ships not to enter its territorial waters. The ships are carrying 10,000 tonnes of aid to the Gaza Strip in an effort to break an Israeli blockade. Turkish TV pictures taken on board the Turkish ship leading the flotilla show Israeli soldiers fighting to control passengers. The footage showed a number of people, apparently injured, lying on the ground. The sound of gunshots could be heard. It is not clear whether the fighting is ongoing. Al-Jazeera TV reported from the same ship that Israeli navy forces had fired and boarded the vessel, wounding the captain. The Al-Jazeera broadcast ended with a voice shouting in Hebrew, “Everybody shut up!”. “Provocation' The six-ship flotilla left international waters off the coast of Cyprus on Sunday and was expected to arrive in Gaza later on Monday. Israel has said it would stop the boats, calling the campaign a “provocation intended to delegitimise Israel”. added by: alexandrek

Heroic lone young Jew at demonstration in LA stands up for rationality and justice, confronting the hate.

This young man is a symbol of Jewish isolation in the face of what is now gathering pace and venom across the world, as it goes progressively mad. His single-minded act of bravery has made him an icon in the world of decency. This video was picked up by a major media outlet and has since gone viral. Daniel is a symbol of the Jewish People : through him, the world can understand how David vanquished Goliath, how little Israel vanquished the arab nations surrounding it in 1967. Undeterred, he marched unflinchingly among the screaming, enraged, murderous crowd. HE WON. May his example be a beacon of light in a sea of violence, ignorance and hatred. I salute him, just as I salute the brave soldiers who dared face the murderous Muslim thugs, armed only with paintball guns and small pistols. added by: crystalman

RFID chip implanted into man gets computer virus

Researchers have found that implanted identity chips can pick up computer viruses. Reading University's Mark Gasson conducted an experiment to show how radio frequency identity (RFID) chips could become electronically infected. He explained to Rory Cellan-Jones the risks involved with the new technology including its effects on medical implants such as pacemakers. added by: Dagum

Donkey detonated on Gaza border

Animal dead, no human casualties; 200 kg of dynamite heaped on cart. A small Syrian-backed terrorist group in Gaza said its activists blew up a donkey cart laden with explosives close to the border with Israel on Tuesday, killing the animal but causing no human casualties. Abu Ghassan, spokesman for the terrorist group, said more than 200 kilograms of dynamite were heaped on the animal-drawn cart. He added that the explosives were detonated 60 meters from the concrete security barrier that separates the territory from Israel. The donkey was killed in the blast, but there were no reports of human casualties. Israeli troops routinely patrol the border, and impoverished Gazans often gather rubble in the area. The Israeli military confirmed the blast, but had no further comment. The IDF said Gaza terrorists also fired two mortar shells into Israel on Tuesday, which fell in the Netiv Ha'asara area without causing damage or casualties. Earlier this week, masked gunmen from an Islamist group torched a UN-run summer camp for children and teens in Gaza. The head of UNRWA in Gaza, John Ging, said the assailants tied up the guard, burned tents and vandalized bathrooms at the campgrounds. UN officials said the attackers left behind three bullets and a note threatening to kill Ging and others unless the UN cancels its activities for some 250,000 Gaza children. Two days before the incident, the previously unknown “The Free of the Homeland” group issued a statement criticizing the camp's organizer, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), for “teaching schoolgirls fitness, dancing and immorality.” added by: crystalman

Israel offered to sell South Africa nuclear weapons

Secret South African documents reveal that Israel offered to sell nuclear warheads to the apartheid regime, providing the first official documentary evidence of the state's possession of nuclear weapons. The “top secret” minutes of meetings between senior officials from the two countries in 1975 show that South Africa's defence minister, PW Botha, asked for the warheads and Shimon Peres, then Israel's defence minister and now its president, responded by offering them “in three sizes”. The two men also signed a broad-ranging agreement governing military ties between the two countries that included a clause declaring that “the very existence of this agreement” was to remain secret. The documents, uncovered by an American academic, Sasha Polakow-Suransky, in research for a book on the close relationship between the two countries, provide evidence that Israel has nuclear weapons despite its policy of “ambiguity” in neither confirming nor denying their existence. The Israeli authorities tried to stop South Africa's post-apartheid government declassifying the documents at Polakow-Suransky's request and the revelations will be an embarrassment, particularly as this week's nuclear non-proliferation talks in New York focus on the Middle East. They will also undermine Israel's attempts to suggest that, if it has nuclear weapons, it is a “responsible” power that would not misuse them, whereas countries such as Iran cannot be trusted. South African documents show that the apartheid-era military wanted the missiles as a deterrent and for potential strikes against neighbouring states. The documents show both sides met on 31 March 1975. Polakow-Suransky writes in his book published in the US this week, The Unspoken Alliance: Israel's secret alliance with apartheid South Africa. At the talks Israeli officials “formally offered to sell South Africa some of the nuclear-capable Jericho missiles in its arsenal”. added by: pigmonkey

Maryland Citizens Face Felony Charges for Recording Cops

Several Marylanders face felony charges for recording their arrests on camera, and others have been intimidated to shut their cameras off. That's touched off a legal controversy. Mike Hellgren explains the fierce debate and what you should do to protect yourself. A man whose arrest was caught on video faces felony charges from Maryland State Police for recording it on camera. “We are enforcing the law, and we don't make any apologies for that,” said Greg Shipley, MSP. Video of another arrest at the Preakness quickly made its way online, despite an officer issuing this warning to the person who shot it, “Do me a favor and turn that off. It's illegal to videotape anybody's voice or anything else, against the law in the state of Maryland.” But is he right? Can police stop you from recording their actions, like a beating at the University of Maryland College Park? The American Civil Liberties Union says no. “For the government to be saying it has the power to prevent citizens from doing that is profoundly shocking, troubling, and particularly in the case of Maryland, simply flat-out wrong,” said David Roach, ACLU. Under Maryland law, conversations in private cannot be recorded without the consent of both people involved. added by: Omnomynous

Washed-up musician, Elvis Costello, Appeases Hamas and its Supporters by Boycotting Israel

Most JIDF supporters probably have no clue who this guy is, as they are younger and this guy is old, washed-up, and irrelevant. The only thing that made him somewhat cool at one point was appearing on SNL with the Beastie Boys. In any event, he has chosen to appease Hamas, and its supporters by boycotting the Jewish State, apparently in support of Israel's destruction, or in fear of supporting the existence of Jews and our Homeland. '' It is after considerable contemplation that I have lately arrived at the decision that I must withdraw from the two performances scheduled in Israel on the 30th of June and the 1st of July. …there are occasions when merely having your name added to a concert schedule may be interpreted as a political act that resonates more than anything that might be sung and it may be assumed that one has no mind for the suffering of the innocent.'' Yet apparently we should not interpret his boycotting Israel and appeasing of Israel's enemies as any sort of “political act”… ''…..many people question the policies….on settlement and….conditions that visit intimidation, humiliation or much worse on Palestinian civilians in the name of national security…'' So only the propaganda of Israel's enemies matter to Costello, who can't even bring himself to mention the fact that Israel lives under the threat of Islamic terror, every single day… '' I offer my sincere apologies for any disappointment to the advance ticket holders as well as to the organizers.'' Well, screw you, Costello. We hope all Jews in the music industry and Jewish consumers boycott YOU (as if anyone even listens to you anymore)… ''Sometimes a silence in music is better than adding to the static….'' Agreed, we will prefer silence to the static of your washed-up, Hamas sympathizing tunes whose creator apparently supports the destruction of the Jewish State. And also Carlos Santana gave in to the demands of the Israel haters and canceled his Israeli concert. No more Santana songs (or shoes–he has a line of high-fashion women’s shoes) for me, you spineless has-been. added by: crystalman

Noam Chomsky denied entry into Israel: report

Famed academic and political dissident Noam Chomsky was detained for three hours by Israeli border guards before being denied entry into the country on Sunday, Israeli news sources report. Chomsky, who is of Jewish extraction and has long been a fierce critic of Israel, told a TV station in Israel that a border guard said Chomsky had “written things that the Israeli government didn't like.” “I suggested [the interrogator try to] find any government in the world that likes anything I say,” Chomsky said, as quoted at Ha'aretz. According to the Jerusalem Post, “some sources say [Chomsky] was told unofficially there was an order from on high to turn him back because of his political views.” Chomsky, a renowned linguistics expert who teaches at MIT, has been an outspoken critic of Israeli foreign policy and US policy towards Israel for years. In 2006, during the Israel-Lebanon war, Chomsky called Israel's bombing of Beirut “a serious breach of international law” for which “there is no legal justification.” In March of this year, in front of a crowd at Boston University, Chomsky denounced the “slaughter” of Palestinians by Israeli forces and denounced Israel’s “escalating policy of apartheid” towards Palestinians. According to Ha'aretz, Chomsky was scheduled to give a speech at Bir Zeit University near Jerusalem. Chomsky arrived at a border crossing between Jordan and Israel at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. He was taken for questioning, turned back from Israel and released at around 4:30 p.m. local time. Palestinian lawmaker Moustafa Barghouti, a moderate who was scheduled to tour the territories with Chomsky, denounced Chomsky's exclusion, Ynet News reported. Chomsky has long labeled himself as a “libertarian socialist” or “anarcho-syndicalist,” a form of anarchism. In academic circles, he is widely considered one of the founding father of modern linguistics. His political books, including Manufacturing Consent and Necessary Illusions, have been slammed by critics as being “subversive” and hailed by supporters as important works deconstructing the political structure of American society. added by: treewolf39

Feds may set Gulf of Mexico oil slick on fire

Coast Guard officials are considering setting the Gulf of Mexico oil slick on fire as it moved Tuesday to within 20 miles of sensitive ecological areas in the Mississippi River Delta. Officials say it could become one of worst spills in U.S. history. Oil is still leaking at a rate of about 42,000 gallons a day from the well, located some 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana beneath a drill rig that exploded and sank last week. Eleven workers are still missing following the incident, and are presumed dead. BP, the well's owner, is racing to shut off the well using eight remote controlled submarines, but has had no luck as of yet. “If we don't secure the well, this could be one of the most serious oil spills in U.S. history,” Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry, head of a joint response task force, said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Twenty miles is the closest the slick has come to land so far. Officials said oil slicks are sometimes set on fire, especially when they are near sensitive marsh areas where heavy equipment used to clean the oil may cause more harm than good. If the slick is set on fire, it would be a controlled burn using fire-proof booms, and only done during the day, said Landry. It could begin as early as Wednesday. The spill, measured from end to end, stretched as wide as 42 miles by 80 miles, although oil isn't necessarily covering that entire area. Most of the slick is a thin sheen on the water's surface, ranging in thickness from a couple of molecules to the equivalent of a layer of paint. About 3% of it is a heavy, pudding-like crude oil. At its current flow rate would take over 260 days to rival the Exxon Valdez disaster, which discharged some 11 million gallons into Alaska's Price William Sound. Still, even if it never compares to the Exxon Valdes spill's size, if it makes landfall it'll have serious ecological repercussions NOT THE ANSWER – http://oilonthebeach.blogspot.com/ Protect Florida's Beaches from Oil Driling – www.protectfloridasbeaches.org http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/jun/15/bill-nelson/sen-b… http://money.cnn.com/2010/04/27/news/economy/oil_rig_gulf/index.htm added by: julesrs007
