To those who woke up on Saturday to images of a massive cruise liner keeled over following a very peculiar Friday night accident off the coast of Italy, no, this was not a prop for the latest James Cameron movie: it is the Carnival Corp’s Costa Concordia , which carried over 4,200 passengers and crew, and foundered after hit a submerged rock off the Tuscan island of Giglio in very calm conditions…. Mena Suvari and Simone Sestito are throwing in the towel. An attorney for the actress, 32, filed divorce papers on her behalf on Friday in L.A. County Superior Court. She and Sestito, a concert promoter, have no kids. According to court papers, Suvari cited “irreconcilable differences” and asked that Sestito receive no spousal support. She cited a separation date of 11/1/11. Mena Suvari and Simone Sestito married in June 2010 in Italy, holding a private church in the Vatican City in what the pair called a “romantic” wedding. The couple met at the Toronto Film Festival in 2007 and got engaged in 2008. This will be Suvari’s second divorce; she split from Robert Brinkmann, in 2005. Mena is set to reprise her role in the next American Pie film installment, due out later this year. If you haven’t seen it, here’s the American Reunion trailer . [Photo: WENN.com]

‘I had to go home to recharge; Pauly is just not enough,’ Staten Islander tells MTV News of taking a break from the boardwalk. By Christina Garibaldi, with reporting by Matt Elias Vinny contemplates leaving on “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV After spending season four of “Jersey Shore” in Italy, the Seaside gang headed right back to Jersey, as fans saw after last week’s season-five premiere . But while they wasted no time getting into their old routine of hitting the gym, tanning and fist-pumping the night away, one castmember wasn’t really up for GTL. “I had to go home to recharge; Pauly is just not enough,” Vinny told MTV News , about his departure on Thursday night’s (January 11) episode. And although Ronnie assured us that fans of the hit MTV show would see a much “lighter side” of the crew this year, it seems Vinny had a hard time adjusting to life back in Seaside Heights. With little personal time between the Florence and New Jersey seasons, Vinny decided to pack his bags and head home to Staten Island for a breather. “We just came from Italy, and you know we all hit a wall at some point,” Vinny explained. “We all kind of reached our breaking point in some way because it was so hard, the schedule, you will see my personal problems happen in the first couple of episodes. I’m just the type of person, when I’m feeling like that, I need certain things.” “Jersey Shore” fans know that Pauly D and Vinny share a special bond, so how did his bro handle the Staten Islander’s exit? “We almost had a blowup when he left,” Pauly revealed. “You just expect him to be there; you don’t realize what you got till it’s gone, I’ll tell you that.” Mike “The Situation” added, “I know [Pauly] was genuinely upset. We were all upset, but Pauly took it to heart, I know that for a fact.” It wasn’t just Pauly, though. All of the housemates were affected by Vinny’s departure. “It hit home for a lot of us because we all had to kind of face our emotions, because Vinny’s the person that’s always our voice of reasoning and [now he] is saying, ‘I can’t take it anymore,’ ” JWoww explained. “This is a family, when you have … a brother or sister leave, it’s heartbreaking, it’s sad. You really do feel like something is missing in the house.” For continuing “Jersey Shore” coverage, be sure to check in with MTV’s Remote Control blog. After ‘Ye mentioned his possible involvement in the film, Denise Di Novi tells MTV News about a ‘fun brainstorming conversation’ with the MC. By Eric Ditzian Kanye West Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty Images In what would easily be the coolest movie news of 2012, Kanye West dropped word in the midst of a scorching series of Twitter updates that he was in discussions to join up with a long-gestating adaptation of “The Jetsons.” “I was just discussing becoming the creative director for the Jetson movie,” he wrote. Could it be true? The live-action adaptation of the futuristic Hanna-Barbera cartoon — starring George Jetson, his boy Elroy, daughter Judy, Jane his wife, plus their robot maid Rosie — has been in development for years, with Robert Rodriguez attached to direct at one point. MTV News put in a call to producer Denise Di Novi, who confirmed that talks with ‘Ye had indeed taken place. “Kanye’s always been a Jetsons fan, I think because he’s so into design and he loves the design aspects,” she told us exclusively. “So we had a fun brainstorming conversation.” The call took place after West touched base with producers and told them he was interested in working on the project. “We heard that he knew we were working on the Jetsons,” Di Novi said. “He reached out and said he’s a huge Jetsons fan. There are a lot of Jetsons fanatics out there, especially people that are into either futuristic science or design. He was interested in creatively brainstorming what we were doing with the movie and what ideas he might have. It was a really friendly, preliminary conversation.” At this point, though, Di Novi is unsure if Kanye will actually sign on to become creative director of “The Jetsons.” “He was going to think about it more and see if he got inspired visually,” she said. “He’s a very visual artist.” Kanye did mention in his Twitter spree that he was annoyed about one suggestion that arose during the conversation. “Someone on the call yelled out.. you should do a Jetsons tour!” he wrote. “This just happened a few hours ago. I was very insulted of course because for anyone that’s seen the Watch the Throne Tour…Or Coachella or Glow in the Dark or Runaway.. you know I have real ideas.” Di Novi, however, said the tour comment was nothing more than a good-natured joke, especially because her production company is involved solely in the movie business. “We were just kind of joking about that,” said Di Nova, whose credits include “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and many Tim Burton films. “I don’t know if he would want to do that, but it was just a fun comment.” What do you think Kanye would bring to a “Jetsons” movie? ‘We’re hitting the boardwalk hard,’ JWoww says of the new season, which premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. By James Montgomery “Jersey Shore” stars Jwoww, Snooki, Sammi and Deena Photo: MTV News The “Jersey Shore” gang heads back to their spiritual home of Seaside Heights on the fifth season, which premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. ET. And from the sound of things, that triumphant return couldn’t have come quickly enough. After a drama-filled Italian holiday, the “Shore” stars were looking forward to getting back to the boardwalk. “We’re hitting the boardwalk hard and [there’s] just overall excitement,” JWOWW told MTV News. “[There was] the anticipation and the anxiety of just being home, because we were away from our family and friends for so long. It’s a little overwhelming.” Those same sentiments were echoed by the guys of the “Shore” earlier this week, when they told MTV News that the in-house tensions that plagued the cast during season four — infighting, headbutting, ill-fated hookups and vehicular mishaps — had all but disappeared by the time they hit Seaside (thanks to the availability of good barbers and “easy women”). The girls were especially happy to bid arrivederci to Italy. And let’s just say they hit the ground running. “I think in Italy it was all drama because we missed home and obviously some people were stirring up unnecessary fake rumors in the house,” Snooki sighed. “So when we get back to Jersey, you’re gonna see that pan out more. But altogether I think we just couldn’t wait to get home and we went crazy.” The fifth season of “Jersey Shore” premieres Thursday, January 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. New season, which premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV, finds the ‘Shore’ gang getting back to basics. By James Montgomery Ronnie, Mike “The Situation,” Vinny, and Pauly D of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV News If there’s an underlying plotline to the fifth season of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” — which premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. — it may very well be “There’s no place like home.” That’s according to the “Shore” stars themselves, who told MTV News that, unlike their Italian holiday, the new season of the show is short on infighting, head-butting, vehicular mishaps, ill-fated hookups, malicious dog-poop capers and drama of all varieties and long on what they’ve come to be known for — namely, partying. “You’re gonna see a lighter side of us in Jersey,” Ronnie assured us. “We have a lot more fun as compared to Italy. People were fighting, running heads into walls, bottles being thrown — it was just a lot of drama. Jersey is going to be a lot more fun.” “You’ll actually see how much we miss Jersey. We missed it so much, we just hit the ground running,” added Pauly D, who’s already gone on record as saying season five is his “best.” “The second we got back from Italy, we went straight to Jersey and just had fun with it.” Part of that fun involved getting back to basics — the kinds of things that were tough to come by in Italy and core tenets that any and all “Jersey Shore” fanatics know by heart. “Stuff you take for granted on a day-to-day basis, that’s what we wanted to do,” Pauly said. “Haircut, gym, tanning … Vinny was cutting our hair.” “We wanted easy girls,” Vinny added with a laugh. Yep, they’re definitely back. The fifth season of “Jersey Shore” premieres Thursday, January 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. JWoww and the rest of her guido/ette castmates are back in the U.S.A. (see Jersey Shore Season 5 trailer ) and making their presence felt in a big way. Case in point: Her January cover of Maxim. The reality star, real name Jenni Farley, says the men’s mag cover is by far her biggest career accomplishment yet. Aside from getting plastic surgery on her face – KIDDING! Probably … – she might be right. Care to disagree after ogling? Seriously. Look at those things. Unreal . “I cried when I found out,” she says in an interview. “I was jumping up and down and totally bugging out. This is probably my highest accomplishment.” Now entering its fifth season, Jersey Shore has changed over the years, and JWoww admits the cast’s recent stint in Italy was not always an easy one. “It was whack! There was no tanning situation,” she said. “I opened JWoww ’s Tanning Salon and was spraying everyone myself just to get by. When we got back to Jersey, we kind of OD’d on the tanning.” As for her love life? Just blame her ex Tom Lippolis. “I was in a bad relationship during the first two seasons, so I took that out on people I shouldn’t have,” she said . “I was definitely more of a bitch.”
New season, which premieres January 5, finds the cast returning to the Shore and burying old beefs. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sway Calloway Pauly D Photo: MTV The last season of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” was an Italian debacle on par with Silvio Berlusconi ( look it up ). It was 12 episodes of infighting, head-butting, vehicular mishaps, ill-fated hookup attempts and, of course, Sammi and Ronnie. So when news broke that the gang would be returning to their spiritual home of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, for the upcoming fifth season , there was much rejoicing — especially from the stars themselves. As Pauly D recently told MTV News, they left all the drama back in Italy and focused instead on just having fun. “There was a lot of tension in [Italy], because we were away from our friends, away from our family, so all we had was each other — that’s it,” Pauly said. “So now we literally ran to Jersey, because we missed it so much, and we just shared that bond, because we’ve been there before, so we enjoyed it with everybody this year. It was really one of my best years, I think.” In the new season, Pauly said even the most ardent of foes — like, say, Snooki and the Situation, who traded barbs (among other things) during their Italian holiday — have buried the tension. “They’re better. It was tough for me to live in the house when they were doing that, because it was way out of left field, I wasn’t expecting that,” Pauly explained. “But what’s crazy about it is that we’ll fight, but we still come together at the end of the day, as a family almost. Kind of like a messed-up family.” Pauly also said that, despite previous reports, his best pal Vinny is still very much a part of the new season. While he has plenty of answers about the new “Shore” season, even Pauly was at a loss when it comes to the current relationship status of Sammi and Ronnie, the, uh, star-crossed couple whose constant bickering has become (for better or worse) a staple of the show. “Man, I don’t know. They change like the weather. Are they together, are they not? I don’t even know,” he laughed.” I love them both. Together, it’s crazy. I don’t even need a relationship, because I’m living through theirs.” The fifth season of “Jersey Shore” premieres Thursday, January 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Castmates return to New Jersey after Italian vacation for the new season, which premieres January 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. By James Dinh “Jersey Shore” castmates celebrate their return to Seaside Photo: MTV After spending some fish-out-of-water time across the pond in Italy, the “Jersey Shore” gang is heading back to their Seaside Heights stomping ground for the fifth installment of the MTV series , premiering Thursday, January 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. And after a quick glimpse at the just-released trailer , it appears as if the GTL crew is ready for tons of partying, booze and, of course, drama. “Shore” is expected to pick things up where the season-four installment ended, as the eight housemates bid farewell to Florence, Italy, and prepare for their New Jersey return. In the two-minute teaser, the fist-pumping crew toasts to yet another crazy summer and is later greeted to what looks like a surprise welcome-home party. “We’re back in our habitat and I’m ready to tear the speakers off this joint,” Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino yells. Despite Snooki and Deena’s meatball escapades, the usual club dance battles and pranks galore, it isn’t all fun times for the gang — especially when Vinny decides to depart the Seaside Heights house. “This is real. This is a reality right here. Vinny’s out of here,” Pauly D says during a confessional after his castmate’s departure. As teased during the previous season, the battle between Snooki and the Situation shows no signs of slowing down. With his badgering comments about the pint-size guidette’s boyfriend, the Situation doesn’t appear apologetic about playing the part of an instigator, saying, “I do have that secret and I’m blowing it wide open.” While one scene depicts the two castmates in the middle of a food fight, another scene shows the Snookster swatting a plastic baseball bat at the womanizer. MTV News caught up with Deena earlier this year, who spoke about her time back in the States. “All of us became so close,” she said of their European vacation. “So here, it really was like we were brothers and sisters. You get annoyed with each other, then you’re fine. But you’ll see, we had a lot of fun in Jersey; we had so much fun. We were home, we were comfortable.” The fifth season of “Jersey Shore” premieres Thursday, January 5, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
