Blown Away #1 again as Adele moves back up to #2. By Gil Kaufman Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away Album Cover Photo: Arista Just as the 11th season of “American Idol” is wheezing to a close , the top three contenders can take some heart in the fact that former champ Carrie Underwood is still at the top of her game. Underwood’s latest, Blown Away , will spend a second week at the top of the Billboard 200 charts thanks to sales of 120,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Though sales were down 55 percent, that was enough to edge out a resurgent Adele , who may have benefitted from the Mother’s Day Bump for her unstoppable 21 , which was up 31 percent and two spots to #2 on sales of 101,000. That holiday push helped lift Adele over the 9 million mark in the U.S., with diamond status now well within reach. The rest of the top 10 was fairly stable, with buzz band Silversun Pickups landing an impressive debut at #6 with their third full-length studio album, Neck of the Woods , while Tank rumbled in at #9 with This is How I Feel (33,000). The rest of the top 10: Lionel Richie continues his remarkable late-career roll with Tuskegee , which moved up three spots to #3 (71,000) as sales passed the 750,000 mark. NOW 42 held in at #4 (65,000), followed by Norah Jones , Little Broken Hearts (60,000), One Direction , Up All Night (#7, 40,000), Jack White , Blunderbuss (#8, 34,000) and Luke Bryan , Tailgates & Tanlines (#10, 26,000). It was a swift trip in, and out, of the top 10 for B.o.B , whose Strange Clouds fell seven spots in week two to #12 as sales dipped by 67 percent to 25,000. Further down the line, British soft rockers Keane were in at #17 with Strangeland (19,000), while “SNL” musical guests and Internet sensations Karmin snuck into the top 20 at #18 with their debut EP, Hello (19,000). Underwood also topped the iTunes album chart, acing out Silversun Pickups, who were followed by Adele, B.o.B, One Direction, Karmin, Keane, Gotye ‘s Making Mirrors , White and Jones. On the iTunes singles chart, Maroon 5 locked down #1 with “Payphone,” beating out Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” Carly Rae Jepsen ‘s “Call Me Maybe,” Justin Bieber ‘s “Boyfriend” and fun. ‘s “We Are Young.” Flo Rida was at #6 with “Wild Ones,” Nicki Minaj just behind with “Starships,” then One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” Jennifer Lopez ‘s “Dance Again” and 2 Chainz ‘s “No Lie.” The top 10 will get shaken up next week with the arrival of Adam Lambert ‘s second major-label album, as well as new discs from Beach House , Godsmack , the “Glee” Cast Graduation album and the newest slab of rockitude from Tenacious D . Carly Rae Jepsen made her first major U.S. talk-show appearance on Friday’s (March 23) “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and she brought quite the surprise with her: Bieber himself and an exclusive preview of his song “Boyfriend.” Ellen began the segment attempting to read an intro for Jepsen, the 26-year-old Canadian singer who won the hearts of pop enthusiasts with her catchy, upbeat single “Call Me Maybe” but was interrupted by an eruption of screaming girls who caught sight of a black-and-yellow-clad Justin Bieber. The young heartthrob took the opportunity to introduce Jepsen, whom he recently signed to his Schoolboy Records label. He had been making a public Twitter bid to Ellen to have his new artist appear on her daytime show. video platform video management video solutions video player Jepsen, who calls her style “folky pop,” took to the stage in a long, bohemian dress. Jepsen sang her hit song, currently at #8 on the iTunes singles chart alongside the Wanted and Katy Perry. Her performance was applauded by Ellen and topped off with a giant hug from her new mentor. During an interview with Ellen, Bieber recalled hearing Jepsen’s track on the radio in Canada and jumping on YouTube to find out more about the “talented” singer. After learning of her local success, Bieber realized she was unsigned in the U.S. and immediately decided to change that. Life has certainly taken a 180-degree turn for Jepsen in the last two months. “I had never branched outside of Canada, and I didn’t know how to do that, and then one miraculous day, Justin called,” Jepsen told Ellen. “It seemed too good to be true.” There is also talk of a possible collaboration with Bieber . MTV News gets to know the 26-year-old ‘Call Me Maybe’ singer, who has suddenly found herself in the big leagues. By Natasha Chandel Carly Rae Jepsen Photo: MTV News Carly Rae Jepsen has suddenly found herself in the big leagues. Justin Bieber recently signed the YouTube pop starlet to his Schoolboy Records label, much like his mentor, Usher , helped catapult him into superstardom when the R&B icon took Bieber under his wing. It all started when Bieber tweeted, “Call me maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen is possibly the catchiest song I’ve ever heard,” creating an immediate runaway hit of the track off Jepsen’s EP Curiosity. And now, a music video spoof of the song, featuring heavy pop hitters like Selena Gomez , Ashley Tisdale and, of course, Bieber, has likely made “Call Me Maybe” the song of the season. “I have no idea why Justin Bieber picked me out of everyone he could have picked, but I’m so glad he did,” Jepsen told MTV News recently. So, who is the girl who wants you to call her, maybe? We already know the 26-year-old Canadian singer has fans in high places, and her track is in the top 10 on the iTunes singles chart, alongside the likes of Adele and Katy Perry. But there is much about this up-and-coming pop singer that you might not know, and MTV News would like to acquaint you with some lesser-known facts about Carly Rae Jepsen. 1. She is an “Idol” alum. In 2007, Jepsen placed third in the Canadian version of the popular “Idol” competition, touring across the country for the “Canadian Idol” Top 3 Concert Tour. During her first audition, Jepsen impressed the judges so much, singing original material, that one judge proclaimed his wish for her not to move forward in the show so he could sign her to a record deal right there and then. 2. She might collaborate with Justin Bieber. The Bieb is certainly “paying it forward.” This past Christmas, Usher recorded a song with his prot
We break down the new screen resolution and how it will change watching films on a tablet. By Kevin P. Sullivan Apple CEO Tim Cook presents the iPad 3 on March 7th Photo: Getty Images For its third incarnation, Apple’s iPad is going high-definition. Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new tablet in front of a crowd of industry insiders and bloggers Wednesday (March 7) in San Francisco. One of the biggest updates to the gadget is an upgrade to a retina display with double the resolution of the iPad 2, touting a 2048×1536 screen and 264 pixels per inch. With such a significant change to the tablet’s screen, the new iPad is sure to change the way we watch movies on tablets. With the iPad’s display upgrade comes the possibility of 1080p screen resolution, something that has, up until this point, never been done on a tablet before. The move to 1080p on the iPad coincided with a much larger upgrade across the iTunes Store. Movies purchased or rented from the iTunes Store not only come in the up-scaled 1080p resolution, but also are shareable across Apple devices with the help of the file-sharing service iCloud. Movies and TV shows are now shareable through iCloud and can be re-downloaded across all devices. This includes an updated version of Apple TV, which brings your iTunes-purchased video to your home entertainment system, now in 1080p. The Apple TV interface also added a recommendation feature based on what you’ve previously bought and viewed. The new iPad also upgraded the back camera, now called the iSight camera. The new lens and features will allow 1080p video recording. Additionally, Apple 4G LTE capabilities to bust download speeds. The new iPad will be available for purchase in the United States on March 16 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models.

And also, who out there doesn’t own 21 already? After all, they’ve had a full year to get their act together. In the wake of her six-for-six night at the awards show, Adele rolled up her biggest sales week to date, moving 730,000 copies, more than doubling her previous high mark of 399,000 for the week ending December 25, 2011, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
