Another Super 8 Spoiler: Bruce Greenwood Discusses His Secret Role

Last week, in a strange last-minute effort to promote Super 8 , Paramount released a spoiler-iffic video that explained the mystery creature the studio had been cleverly concealing in all promos until that point. And now, after Super 8 dominated the box office during its opening weekend, Star Trek actor Bruce Greenwood is coming forward to take credit for his own hush hush contribution to the J.J. Abrams homage to Steven Spielberg — specifically in shaping that previously mysterious creature. Major spoilers after the jump.

From 8 1/2 to Life Aquatic: 9 Great Movies About Moviemaking

Although today’s new releases Super 8 and Road to Nowhere couldn’t be farther apart in terms of budget, genre, tone, influence and spirit, they do have one striking theme in common: At heart, they are both about the sacrifices, struggles and adventures encountered by artists who make movies. They are the latest in a long tradition of films about films — and film love — that Movieline’s S.T VanAirsdale and Christopher Rosen surveyed for the occasion.

New Web-Only Larry Crowne Trailer Spoils Entire Movie

It’s unofficially spoiler week here on the Internet. On Thursday, Paramount confounded J.J. Abrams fans by unveiling a Super 8 spoiler clip so huge that Movieline couldn’t even post the teaser in good conscience. Now, Tom Hanks has tweeted a new Larry Crowne trailer that contains more plot points than Sofia Coppola’s entire filmography. Click through to watch.

Friday Box Office: Mint Start for Super 8

After a week of teeth-gnashing from box office Cassandras , it appears Super 8 will open to pretty much what should have been expected from the non-franchise film. The J.J. Abrams-directed throwback earned $12 million on Friday night (plus another $1 million from Thursday’s sneak previews) and could get to $35 million for the weekend. Elsewhere on the charts, X-Men: First Class suffered a big Friday to Friday drop (65 percent), but is closing in on $100 million, while The Hangover Part II and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides each cracked $200 million. Click ahead for your Friday box office.

Report: Charlie Sheen Threatened to Kill His Associates, Shave Ex-Wife’s Head

You know how Charlie Sheen’s sons were removed from his home early on Wednesday morning, after the Two and a Half Men actor threatened to cut the head off his estranged wife Brooke Mueller, “put it in a box and send it to [her] mom”? Well, apparently she was not the only person whose life Sheen threatened to brutally end in the past 36 hours. Winning?

TRAILER: Get Excited For Porno Melodrama!

First things first: No one around here condones homophobia or any legislation under its influence, and generally speaking, any statement against said legislation is one worth backing. But that’s not why I’m pumped for the short film Porno Melodrama , which purports to be a direct reaction to institutionalized hate in Lithuania. I’m pumped because holy Christ this trailer .

Why I’m Going to Avoid the Trailers for Super 8, and Why You Should Too

There are few films I’m currently more excited about than Super 8 . J.J. Abrams’ ode to ’70s-era Spielberg, James Horner’s Cocoon soundtrack , and Coach Taylor seems — to these tired eyes — to be the one “must-see-now-please” film of the summer. Take your Thors and Captain Americas and cowboys and aliens; give me the mystery of Abrams and his lens flare. This excitement is why you can expect me to ignore every future trailer for Super 8 from here on out. And it’s why you probably should as well.

Remember When J.J. Abrams Confessed His Mel Gibson Man-Crush?

Seriously : Movieline’s Vault is hiding some serious magic from 1992 . How about what I presume is the first in-depth profile of J.J. Abrams , then 26 and rich from his screenplays for Regarding Henry and the Mel Gibson vehicle Forever Young ? And maybe a tad too candid with journalists: “Well, I know this is gonna sound crazy, but Mel is just so f*cking good-looking that you can’t believe it. He has a really funny personality, and you find that you can forget that he’s this mega-movie star when you’re with him. But the truth is, I spent a lot of time just staring into his eyes.” It always starts so innocently. [ Movieline ]
