Wissam Al Mana: Dating Janet Jackson!

It’s been a tough year for Janet Jackson, but she’s happier lately. New boyfriend Wissam Al Mana could be a big reason for that. After splitting from longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri after a seven-year relationship last summer, Jackson slowly eased into this new romance. The pop star and her man were snapped soaking up the rays in Sardinia, Italy. The 44-year-old Why Did I Get Married Too? star and the 35-year-old businessman from Qatar, who owns homes worldwide, have been quietly enjoying each other’s company, according to reports. Glad she’s moving on and happy! It’s nice to see Michael’s sister happy again. We’re guessing Wissam Al Mana approves of Janet’s new haircut too. In non-romance news, she’s currently writing True You, an exercise and nutrition book. She told Essence she “wanted to write this book because [she] wanted kids to have something to read and know that they are beautiful as they are.” A noble goal!

‘American Idol’ Lowered Age Limit To Find The ‘Great Ones,’ Judges Say

‘You’re seeing stars like Justin Bieber, a lot of younger artists do it,’ Randy Jackson tells MTV News of expanding eligibility to age 15. By James Montgomery Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson at the Do Something Awards on Monday Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images It may seem like the ninth season of “American Idol” just wrapped (probably because it did ), but production has already started on the 10th season, with auditions getting under way in Nashville last week. So when MTV News caught up with “Idol” judges Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi Monday night on the red carpet of VH1’s Do Something! Awards in Los Angeles, we asked them how season 10 was shaping up. How did they think producers’ decision to lower the minimum “Idol” age requirement to 15 (from 16 years old) would impact the search for the next pop superstar? “I think different people will show up this time,” Jackson said. “You’re seeing stars like Justin Bieber, a lot of younger artists do it , you know? So you want to take advantage of that … there’s a lot of kids that are getting better earlier. It’s great.” While critics of the show argue the lowered age requirement is just a way to exploit the current popularity of teen phenoms like the Biebs, DioGuardi pointed out that young superstars have been helping to keep the industry’s engine running for decades now, adding that “Idol” won’t just be searching for a Bieber clone. “I mean, take LeAnn Rimes, at a very young age she was singing very deep country songs, and she had that old soul and it worked,” she said. “It could be a kid who’s really young, who didn’t even know he was that talented, or it could be someone that’s a little bit older that, for whatever reason, it hasn’t worked out yet. That’s what’s exciting about the show: It’s about that dream and helping people realize it.” Both Jackson and DioGuardi said that “Idol” had been mulling a modification in the age restrictions — by season four, eligibility was expanded to a maximum age of 28 — for a few years now, but concerns about whether younger singers could handle the big stage had kept them from pulling the trigger. But after witnessing the meteoric rise of Bieber (and a host of other young stars), they decided it was time to make the change. And both judges say the Fox show will be better for it. “Yeah, we thought about it for a minute, but when you’re seeing the success of so many young kids today, that are so talented, it’s about finding those great ones,” Jackson told us. “I’m very excited” DioGuardi added about the new age limit. “That’s what I love about the show — you never know what you’re going to come across.” Are you glad “Idol” is expanding its eligibility to include 15 year olds? What do you think the age requirement should be? Tell us in the comments! Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Jesse Jackson: Cavaliers Owner Sees LeBron as Runaway Slave

Jason Whitlock writes about the sports world from every angle, including those other writers can't imagine or muster courage to address. His columns are humorous, thought-provoking, agenda free, honest and unpredictable. You can e-mail Jason or follow him on Twitter. PRINT RSS Updated Jul 12, 2010 12:39 PM ET I could pretend Jesse Jackson speaks for such a tiny minority that his inflammatory, predictable and misguided remarks about LeBron James and Dan Gilbert are unworthy of rebuke. But then, I’d have to ignore the mountain of e-mails that poured into my laptop from African-American brothers and sisters making the same argument. Jesse has a constituency, a passionate group of idiots who believe the best way to combat white-wing political bigots such as Limbaugh and Hannity is with black-wing political bigotry. And so, in defense of LeBron’s narcissistic ego explosion and Gilbert’s emotional reaction to it, Jesse compared Gilbert to an 18th-century slave owner. “His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality,” Jackson said in a statement released Sunday. “(Gilbert) sees LeBron as a runaway slave.” Yes, this is an attention grab by Rev. Jackson. He heard about ESPN’s impressive ratings for “The Decision” and, like a mafia don, wants to wet his beak. Why let Jim Gray and ESPN executives have all the fun exploiting LeBron’s naivete? There’s enough of LeBron’s carcass for Jesse to feast, too. And Gilbert’s childish letter to Cavaliers fans in the wake of LeBron’s departure gave Jackson the opening he needed to break out his knives and forks. “(Gilbert’s) accusations endanger LeBron,” Jackson wrote. “His jersey is being burned in effigy, and he is being projected as a betrayer by the owner. … LeBron is not a child, nor is he bound to play on Gilbert’s plantation and be demeaned.” added by: congoboy

Janet Jackson Says ‘I Love My Life’

‘It took me a good minute to get here, it really did,’ the pop star tells Essence in August cover story. By Mawuse Ziegbe Janet Jackson on the August 2010 cover of “Essence” Photo: Essence Communications To her fans, Janet Jackson would appear to have emerged from an especially taxing year. The pop star just marked the one-year anniversary of brother Michael’s death and, last year, ended her relationship with longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri . But despite her personal trials, Jackson recently revealed that she’s in a good place in her life. “It took me a good minute to get here, it really did. But I love my life,” Jackson tells Essence in the August issue hitting newsstands July 12. “I only wish I had this confidence when I was younger.” Although Jackson may have lacked confidence in her early years, the hitmaker maintained that she has no qualms about aging; an outlook the Jackson family matriarch, Katherine, instilled in her and her celebrity siblings. “Mother always raised us to believe that age was just a number. All of us — my sisters, my brothers — we’ll just tell you our ages because it’s all about where you are mentally and how you feel about yourself.” Perhaps Jackson’s attitude is also influenced by the new inroads she’s making in her career. The diva has ramped up her acting work in recent months, pulling off an emotional performance in “Why Did I Get Married Too?” Jackson is also scheduled to begin shooting the star-studded “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf,” helmed by Tyler Perry, and with such co-stars as Whoopi Goldberg and Kerry Washington. The megastar also relished her overall independence. “I’m so fortunate. I’m a free agent. I’m not trapped in a contract where I’m unhappy,” Jackson said. “I’m very free, and I love this feeling. I can do whatever I want.” And while Jackson may not be committing to any recording projects just yet, she isn’t shying away from the stage. The singer is slated to perform at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans this weekend. Jackson will hit the stage alongside several acts, including Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Trey Songz.
