‘American Idol’ Judge Randy Jackson Explains Michael Lynche Save

‘It was the right thing to do,’ Jackson says of judges’ decision to reverse his elimination. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Randy Jackson and Tim Kash Photo: MTV News This week, the “American Idol” judges decided to use their one-time-only save on Michael Lynche , who came close to going home this week. Some “Idol” fans and experts were surprised that they used the save so early in the season, but Randy Jackson says Big Mike earned it. “It was the right thing to do,” Jackson told MTV News at the “America’s Best Dance Crew” finale on Thursday night. “He sang his brains out [Wednesday] night. It was the right thing to do. I’m happy we did it.” Jackson knows that the decision had to be taken seriously, since it means they won’t be able to reverse America’s votes if another judges’ favorite gets eliminated. “We get one save in the season. He was so good [Wednesday] night, and this is a singing competition,” he explained. “And he was the best singer in the whole show [Wednesday] night. “We started our discussions and were saying, ‘My god, well, he’s singing amazing tonight,’ even though he’s had up and down weeks,” he continued, describing their deliberation process. And Jackson thinks that Mike didn’t get the lowest number of votes because he lacks fans. “I think he would have been safe, and I think they forgot to vote for him thinking, ‘Ah, he’s going to be there [next week].’ ” Do you think the judges used their save on the right guy? Sex and the City 2 Trailer: Emirates State of Mind

Nothing says mainstream romantic comedy like the use of a past sell date pop song in the trailer. And since The Back-Up Plan has already co-opted Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” and Percy Jackson (yes, that Percy Jackson ) has laid claim to Lady Gaga, what other song but “Empire State of Mind” could the trailer for Sex and the City 2 use to underscore all its glittery insanity and cast sojourn to Abu Dhabi? Yep, Abu Dhabi…

Conrad Murray Eyes Newest Michael Jackson Attack

Dr. Conrad Murray intends to argue that Michael Jackson killed himself by self-injecting a lethal dose of Propofol while the physician stepped out to use the bathroom. While that sounds like legal grasping at straws, Murray’s defense team says Michael Jackson’s body – specifically his eyes – could be powerful evidence in his favor. The supposed proof that Jackson accidentally killed himself , rather than overdosing on Propofol Murray administered, was obvious when the doctor came back in. At that point, he says he saw Michael’s eyes wide open and his pupils dilated. Experts say if a patient is sleeping and overdoses, their eyes most likely would not be open. The defense contends Jackson woke up when Murray was gone, became frustrated he couldn’t sleep, grabbed the Propofol bottle and ” pushed it .” THE EYES HAVE IT : But does Dr. Murray’s story hold water? If a jury believes Jackson’s eyes were open , they could also believe Jackson was awake and, perhaps, capable of grabbing the Propofol on the nightstand. Authorities also say they have a clear explanation for why Michael trouble sleeping the night before he died – tablets that would have really riled him up. An unlabeled bottle contained 13 tablets, each a combination of ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin. Each pill contained 25 mg of ephedrine, 200 mg of caffeine and 80 mg of aspirin. The caffeine alone in each is equivalent to nearly a six-pack of Coca-Cola. According to the toxicology results, ephedrine was present in Jackson. Might he have gotten so hyped up that he felt he needed extra Propofol to sleep? Murray likely thinks so, and won’t accept a plea deal .

Dr. Conrad Murray Not Taking Plea Deal

Dr. Conrad Murray must feel pretty good about his defense strategy of blaming the victim , because dude is not interested in any plea bargain, thankyouverymuch . Michael Jackson’s embattled personal physician, who faces involuntary manslaughter charges stemming from the icon’s death last June, is not looking for a deal. Sources say Dr. Murray is adamant that he did nothing wrong and that Michael Jackson killed himself . Thus, he will not plead to manslaughter or a lesser offense. The doc’s defense team plans to contend that Jackson did himself in by self-injecting a fatal dose of Propofol into his bloodstream while Murray had left the room. Will Dr. Conrad Murray beat the rap? Murray, insiders report, is ” completely confident ” that he will be found not guilty on all charges, despite the inconsistencies in his story and rumors of a cover-up. He is less certain that medical boards in Texas, Nevada and California will reach a similar result, though a judge did not pull his California medical license Monday. Murray intends to fight to keep practicing, as he needs the cash money to pay for his defense and child support, but realizes the medical boards will go after him. Also going after him with a wrongful death lawsuit? Joe Jackson . But Conrad shouldn’t take that personally, since that guy will sue anything that comes along.

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Keeps His Medical License For Now

A motion to revoke his license was shelved until June 14. By Shawn Adler Defense attorney John Michael Flanagan and Dr. Conrad Murray on Monday Photo: David McNew/AFP/Getty Images While embattled physician Conrad Murray is still fighting his involuntary-manslaughter charge in the death of pop star Michael Jackson, for now, he gets to keep his medical license. A motion by the California State Attorney General’s Office on behalf of the State Medical Board to revoke Conrad’s license was put on hold Monday afternoon (April 5) by Los Angeles Judge Michael Pastor, who shelved the matter until a procedural hearing scheduled for June 14, according to The Associated Press. Pastor, who reportedly wrote a letter of recommendation for the judgeship candidacy of prosecutor David Walgreen, was assigned the high-profile case earlier Monday by Supervising Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza. Many members of Jackson’s family were in attendance, including father Joe, mother Kathleen, sister Janet and brothers Randy and Jermaine. The hearing, which amounted to little more than legal housecleaning, stood in stark contrast to the somewhat circus atmosphere outside the courthouse. According to USA Today, large numbers of fans showed up, many holding signs and screaming, some even singing “We Are the World.” Murray, out on $75,000 bail, is charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s 2009 death of cardiac arrest. It is alleged that while serving as Jackson’s physician, Murray provided the singer with a lethal cocktail of sedatives, including dangerous amounts of the anesthetic propofol. Murray previously pleaded not guilty to all charges, which carry a penalty of up to four years in prison. Related Photos Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos Related Artists Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s Family To Attend Dr. Conrad Murray Hearing

Family members have asked court to reserve seats at procedural hearing for physician charged in Jackson’s death. By Jocelyn Vena Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images Michael Jackson ‘s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, is expected to appear in a Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday (April 5) for a procedural hearing aimed at assigning a judge to his case and setting up a preliminary hearing date. Murray has already pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson’s death last June. The Associated Press reports that Jackson family members are expected to attend the hearing and have already notified the court officials of their attendance in order for seats to be reserved for them in the courtroom. Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said, “There will be more than a dozen, possibly as many as 15” family members there. Meanwhile, reports that Murray’s defense may argue that Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of Propofol. Sources tell the Web site that Murray’s attorney, Ed Chernoff, will argue that Murray gave Jackson a 25 mg dose of the drug, but that when the doctor left the room, Jackson awoke and “took the 20 ml bottle of Propofol and self-injected the remaining contents through the IV, causing a massive overdose that stopped his heart.” A rep for Murray, however, claimed to have no idea about this line of argument, telling “Access Hollywood” in a statement, “We do not know what sources to which TMZ is referring. We only know it didn’t come from [attorney] Ed [Chernoff], who has the final word.” The rep added that they “will not be trying the case in the press” and wanted to see how the prosecution intended to try the case. “In any case, it is premature to discuss defense strategy,” the rep continued. “Dr. Murray’s defense will depend on the People’s theory of prosecution, which has not yet been made available to the defense team.” Related Photos Family & Friends Say Goodbye To Michael Jackson Michael Jackson’s Greatest MTV Moments Michael Jackson: A Fashion Icon Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos Related Artists Michael Jackson
