Dr. Conrad Murray Defense Continues to Blame MJ

It looks like Michael Jackson’s addictive personality and his need for instant gratification may become a building block in Dr. Conrad Murray’s legal strategy. Yesterday we talked about how Dr. Murray’s defense will argue that Michael Jackson killed himself by pumping a lethal dose of Propofol into his own body. This happened, allegedly, when the doc left the room to use the can. Murray says he personally administered only an eighth of the amount in MJ’s system. That’s far-fetched if you ask us. But to bolster the story, sources familiar with the defense’s strategy say they plan to show it was in character for Michael. Michael Jackson was a demanding celebrity, Conrad Murra y’s lawyers will claim, and a man-child who wanted what he wanted when he wanted it, period. Even if it posed a danger to himself . BLAME THE VICTIM : That’s the only card Dr. Conrad Murray has left, and he’s playing it. Valid or outrageous? A jury may have to make that determination in court . Amazingly, the defense will use Coke to prove its point. Not Coke as in cocaine, but plain ol’ Coca-Cola. Michael Jackson apparently consumed massive quantities of the legendary soft drink, despite its caffeine content. Jackson, an insomniac, knew full well that guzzling the stuff would make it hard to sleep, but he did not care. When the time came to sleep, he turned to drugs. The defense will provide examples of MJ hyping himself up with caffeine from soda, then using drugs – including Propofol, an anesthesic – to knock himself out. Basically, this is meant to establish that Jackson was an individual who demanded instant gratification, making the idea of him waking up, seeing Dr. Murray was out of the room and self-medicating with massive amounts of Propofol believable. Is it? What do you think? Did Michael Jackson play a role in his own demise, or is this shady doc trying to blame the victim to save his own a$$?

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Fights To Keep Medical License

Murray is charged with manslaughter in the pop star’s 2009 death. By Kelley L. Carter Conrad Murray Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images Dr. Conrad Murray, who is being charged with manslaughter for the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson, has said in court papers that he must be granted the right to continue practicing medicine, otherwise, he won’t be able to pay for his defense in the case. Murray was responding to a bid by the California attorney general to suspend his license pending trial, The Associated Press reports. Attorneys for the doctor say if that were to happen, the results would be devastating for the financially strapped Murray. “He is, without fear of overstatement, hanging on by a thread,” the attorneys wrote. “His ability to pay for his own defense depends almost entirely on his ability to continue to treat patients.” Murray, who is due back in court on Monday, has pleaded not guilty to the involuntary-manslaughter charges brought up against him in Jackson’s death; the singer was administered anesthetic propofol and other drugs by Murray. Should he be suspended in California — where he no longer practices — his lawyers fear there might be a domino effect in Texas and Nevada, where the bulk of his practice is. “If Dr. Murray is unable to practice medicine in Texas, and especially Nevada, he will likely be faced with the inability to adequately defend himself of the charges facing him in the Superior Court of California,” his lawyers wrote. “The case with which he is charged will require intensive attorney work and fees. In light of the fact that much of his defense will be scientifically based and involves the death of an internationally famous decedent, expenses for his defense will be considerable.” Lawyers for Murray also say that should he be suspended, he’d struggle to pay child support. The AP also reports that court records show financial woes aren’t new to Murray, and they date back to when he signed on in May at $150,000 per month to keep Jackson healthy through a series of comeback shows planned in London. At that time, he owed at least $780,000 for settlements against his business, outstanding mortgage payments on his house, delinquent student loans, child support and credit cards. He also faced near foreclosure on his Las Vegas country-club home. In January, he made a payment of $1,003 on a $15,500 child-support debt involving a California woman and her 11-year-old son. The next month, he failed to appear at a Las Vegas court proceeding and was found in default on a $132,000 debt related to office and medical equipment and services. Janet Jackson Thinks Lady Gaga Is ‘A Sweetheart’

‘I think she needs to slow down just a little bit,’ Jackson says of fellow pop star. By Perri Nemiroff Janet Jackson Photo: MTV News Everyone knows who Justin Bieber is, right? Not quite. But when director Tyler Perry admitted his ignorance, Janet Jackson was on hand to fill him in on Bieber fever. And while promoting their new film, “Why Did I Get Married Too?,” Jackson had some thoughts to share about the newest pop superstars on the scene. “Who’s Justin Bieber?” Perry asked. Jackson, slightly surprised by Perry’s answer, explained that Bieber is from Atlanta and is “one of Usher’s kids.” Eager to prove that he knows something about current music, Perry mentioned Jackson’s love for Lady Gaga . “I really love Gaga, yeah, and she’s a sweetheart,” Jackson agreed, saying she was particularly pleased to see Gaga’s lovable side because, “it’s not always the case when you meet them. You can enjoy their work, but it’s not always such a — so pleasant when you get to know their personality, and she truly is a sweetheart.” “Sweet” might not be the first word you’d use to describe Gaga’s performances and fashion, but Jackson was still packed with praise for Gaga’s unconventional style. “She’s definitely doing something different and I love that.” The sole negative thing Jackson had to say about Gaga is actually a compliment. “She works so hard, and I told her, I think she needs to slow down just a little bit, take some time out for herself,” Jackson recalled. Michael Jackson’s Heart Still Beating In Emergency Room, Lawyer Claims

Joe Jackson, singer’s father, is likely to file a wrongful death suit against Dr. Conrad Murray within 90 days. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images Despite initial reports that Michael Jackson was unresponsive and paramedics were unable to revive him when he suffered cardiac arrest last June, an attorney for Jackson’s father, Joseph, claims that the singer had a weak heartbeat when he arrived in the emergency room. According to CNN , the claim is the first step in a pending wrongful death suit against Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case. The suit could be filed within the next 90 days, and it will hinge on the crucial final moments of Jackson’s life and Murray’s actions during that time. Attorney Brian Oxman, who is representing Joseph Jackson, told CNN that medical records show that Jackson’s heart beat briefly when he arrived at the UCLA Medical Center emergency room, but that the musical icon was “long gone” by that point. Oxman mailed a letter to Murray’s representatives over the weekend serving notice that the wrongful death suit is imminent and that it will accuse Murray of causing Jackson’s death by not calling an ambulance fast enough. “The bottom line is, had [paramedics] gotten there earlier and had they been called right away, chances are he could have been revived,” Oxman said, noting that medical records show Jackson was “long gone, 20 to 40 minutes before the paramedics got there.” reported that doctors who worked on Jackson at the hospital said two EKG tests showed rhythmic heart activity both times and that unnamed sources close to Murray claim the doctor said he was able to restart Jackson’s heart at the singer’s rented home before paramedics arrived and maintain it in the ambulance. Those claims contradict those from paramedics on the scene, who said they wanted to take Jackson straight to the morgue and not the hospital because they believed he was already dead, as well as those from Oxman, who credited the weak pulse found at UCLA Medical Center to a reaction from resuscitation results. The Los Angeles coroner concluded that Jackson’s death was caused by “acute propofol intoxication” caused by a large dose of the powerful surgical anesthetic administered by Murray in an attempt to help Jackson, a chronic insomniac, get to sleep. Jackson, 50, was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical two hours after arriving. Murray is currently free on $75,000 bail in the case, and since California law requires medical wrongful death lawsuits to be filed within a year of the death, Oxman said the 90-day notice was given in order to meet the legal deadline for filing. The next hearing in Murray’s criminal case, in which he faces up to four years in prison , is April 5. Last week, a prosecutor’s report was leaked that claimed a witness said Murray stopped efforts to resuscitate Jackson in order to collect and hide multiple bottles of propofol before authorities arrived. In the notice, Oxman called the alleged delay “an outrageous departure from the standard of care.” A spokesperson for Murray’s lawyer, Ed Chernoff, said he had not received the letter but described it as “a bucket of water thrown on a man drowning in the ocean.” Joe Jackson has long claimed that he believed there was a cover-up in the death of his son , and after Murray’s charging, he referred to the physician as a “fall guy,” saying he believed there were other unnamed people involved.
