HIGH Times has been a purveyor of – well – high times for years now and it’s high time, apparently, that one high-profile fan of the illegal-ish botanic blazon its cover with his famous image. Oliver Stone will grace the cover of the magazine in the August 2012 issue, just in time for the magazine’s new editor-in-chief to settle in at his new post – quite a coup! Always the classy guy, stone takes a toke dressed in his red carpet best tux and shares with HIGH Tmes about his new film Savages while also taking a dig at American foreign intervention and the ongoing global drug war. And the three-time Oscar winner is quite frank about his penchant for marijuana and tends to go for local product. “Certainly if you appreciate California weed, which I have for many years, you’ll realize that we’re somewhat close to the money when we say that, California has surpassed Thailand, Jamaica, South Sudan, and certainly Mexico as the king and queen of quality weed,” said Stone. He also joked – or maybe not? – that he might get into agriculture himself. ” I’m thinking myself of getting into the business, although I suspect there’d be a lot of stress with the Feds changing the rules all the time. Those bastards.” Savages was a chance for Stone to re-connect to his inner rebel, he told HIGH Times . Said the publication’s Chris Simunek: “We applaud Oliver Stone for showing the same sort of courage in his support for the marijuana cause that he’s shown with so many other issues, past and present. HIGH Times has always championed the rebel with a cause, and when people of Mr. Stone’s renown speak up — and smoke up — in the public sector, it exposes one more chink in the armor of idiocy that protects the status quo.” [Source: HIGH Times ] And what do you think of Stone’s HIGH Times cover shot?

There is a Kate Gosselin cruise. Yes, a cruise featuring Kate Gosselin herself. This summer. Offered by Royal Caribbean, which is like a major cruise line. On August 12-19, if you are so inclined, you can set sail with Kate on a ship for between $1,900 and $3,175. A small price to pay for a brush with … wait. The trip starts in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., moving on to Jamaica, Cozumel, etc. Kate will be available for Q&A sessions, photo ops, crafts and cocktail parties! Better vacation: This or a week in Pyongyang? The hilarious thing is that Kate Gosselin , for all her good qualities (there must be some, we’re thinking) is basically famous for yelling, being a grating harpy, insisting on having things her way, seeking attention and emasculating her then-husband. Just want you want to be around … on VACATION. Are people actually interested in things like this? Is it actually a selling point to go on a celebrity cruise? Or one with Kate Gosselin for that matter? Seriously, tell us. And if the answer is yes, just spend August working instead. Some nice overtime pay has to be better than Mai Tais with the TLC banshee. We’re pretty certain there were other ways this fool could have gone home to prison. Fueled by dangerous paranoia following his release from prison, Damel Burton, 34, carried out a psychotic 15-minute spree that left two people dead and sent terrified passengers stampeding off a Q111 bus, police sources said. The madman told cops he believed the commuters were plotting against him. “People on the bus were on the phone and he thought they were talking about him,” a police source said. Burton began his horrific spree by fatally shooting Keith Murrell, 18, in the chest in the apartment they shared with Murrell’s mother on Foch Blvd. in Jamaica, police sources said. The gunman, who had grown increasingly unhinged following a seven-year prison stint for armed robbery, then boarded the bus and randomly shot innocent commuter Marvin Gikes, 36, in the back of the head, police sources said. He collapsed on the bus’ rear steps and died. Next, the gunman blasted commuter Jojuan Lipsey, 29, in the face as screaming passengers ran for their lives, sources said. Lipsey, a state-employed counselor for developmentally disabled patients, was heading home from work to see his wife and kids when a bullet tore through his mouth. “He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said his mother-in-law, Catherine Baynes. “You don’t expect anything like that to come so close to home.” Lipsey underwent surgery at Jamaica Hospital and is expected to survive. The bus bloodbath came shortly after Burton and Murrell got into a confrontation in their second-floor apartment, their friends said. After Burton blasted him in his chest, the dying teen stumbled into his room and locked the door to get away from the crazed killer. Murrell managed to leap out the window and run to a nearby Royal Fried Chicken store to get help. He collapsed outside the chicken joint and later died at Jamaica Hospital. “He was running over here and he fell to the corner,” shaken store clerk Ali Nasery, 27, recalled. Burton raced out of the apartment after his first killing, but police sources said he dropped a damaging clue — an identification card, which police found along with several 9-mm. bullets. Fewer than 15 minutes later he boarded the bus, opening fire as it rumbled near the intersection of Archer Ave. and Parsons Blvd. Chaos erupted as the gunfire sent about 50 panicked passengers rushing for the front of the bus and screaming for the driver to open the doors, the rattled driver told the Daily News. “They just wanted to get out,” the 57-year-old driver said. “It was panic, crazy. I couldn’t believe it. “It sounded like the Fourth of July,” he added. He said passengers were screaming, “Let me out, let me out,” as they ran for cover. After unleashing the insanity, the suspect ran off the bus, but only made it a block away before police captured him. He was still carrying a semi-automatic 9-mm. Ruger pistol, the sources said. Police charged him with second-degree murder, gun possession and assault. Can you imagine how that poor boy’s mother must feel about bringing this psycho into her children’s lives?? Source
‘It was just cool to see a big dude that could still dance, get fly, put on the slick joints,’ Rozay recalls on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Heavy D Photo: Prince Williams/ FilmMagic Ask Rick Ross about Heavy D’s contribution to hip-hop, and he’s likely to break out into song. “Heav’s at the door, so there’ll be no bum-rushing,” Rozay sang when MTV News asked about his thoughts on the passing of the Overweight Lover. Heavy’s verse from the 1989 anti-violence jam “Self Destruction” was clearly memorable for the Maybach Music boss, but it goes deeper than just his rhymes, according to Ross. “Man, you know, that was the Overweight Lover, and it was just cool to see a big dude that could still dance, get fly, put on the slick joints, rock the dope shades, the females screaming for him,” Rozay said on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” Although Heavy D’s accomplishments in rap music are sometimes overlooked, Ross said the rapper/actor’s impact is something to be noted. “Me being cool with Puff, I know the kind of impact he had on Puff at Uptown Records and we just gotta give Heavy his credit,” Rozay said. “He really impacted the game on another level, being one of the early dudes.” In October, Heavy closed out the BET Hip Hop Awards with a medley of hits, including “The Overweight Lover,” “Mr. Big Stuff,” “Is It Good to You” and “I Want Somebody.” Ross, who also performed that night, watched Mr. Big Stuff’s performance in amazement. “Just to be at the BET Awards just this past year and watch the homey close the awards out and still doin’ his thing and it’s like years later, you just really reflect on all the great memories just with hip-hop, period, especially from that era,” he said. “Heav, he was just that dude.” 1990s rap star Chubb Rock, who also appeared on “RapFix Live” this week, told host Sway that it was “hard to be happy” since his friend’s death at 44. Both Rock and Heavy D were born in Jamaica and the two men became friends before they started their respective rap careers. Heavy got his start first and paved the way for Chubb, who was also one of rap’s big men. “It was great because between him, Markie Dee of the Fat Boys — that was our lane, that big boy thing,” he said. When it comes to Heavy D and the hip-hop heavyweights he inspired, Chubb doesn’t see it as an old school versus new school thing. Instead, he sees rappers like Rick Ross and Fat Joe, as well as late MCs Big Pun and the Notorious B.I.G., as members of a fraternity. “When I heard things happened to Rick , it bothered me, too, because I was like, ‘Wait a minute, that’s one of our young brothers doin’ his thing and keeping that legacy going,” Rock said of Ross suffering two seizures in October. “But the health thing is serious, that’s why I had to drop, like, 80 lbs.” The exact cause of Heavy D’s death is still unclear as initial autopsy results came up inconclusive. He was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills after a 911 call was placed from the rapper’s home. Heavy had difficulty breathing and was pronounced dead after he reached the hospital. There will be a public viewing for the fallen rapper on Thursday (November 17) at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York, followed by a private funeral service for family and close friends on Friday. BET is planning a special tribute to Heavy D during Sunday’s “Soul Train Awards.” Veteran rappers Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Curtis Blow, Naughty by Nature, Whodini and Stetsasonic’s Daddy-O are all said to be taking part. Share your fondest Heavy D memory with us in the comments. Relatives of Heavy D say he visited a doctor the day before he passed away. Rap legend Heavy D knew something was seriously wrong with his health the day before he suddenly collapsed and died Tuesday, officials told the Daily News. “He had gone to the doctor the day before,” Ed Winter, Assistant Chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, told the Daily News. “He had what appeared to be like flu-like symptoms.” Investigators completed an autopsy Wednesday morning, but declined to release a preliminary cause of death, saying that toxicology tests must first be performed. The tests could take up to six weeks to complete. “He was taking medication, so we want to see what the levels were,” Winter said. The trailblazing, Westchester County-bred star weighed 344 pounds at the time of his death, Winter said. “He said he had a touch of pneumonia, maybe from traveling. He just got back from England,” cousin Ruddy Phillips, 50, told The News after speaking with the entertainer’s dad in Mount Vernon, N.Y. Heavy D, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was taken by ambulance to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday; he died 90 minutes later, police said. He was conscious and talking, but having difficulty breathing, when officers first arrived at his home after a 911 call was made, said Lt. Mark Rosen of the Beverly Hills Police Department. The 44-year-old rapper was returning home from a shopping trip when he experienced shortness of breath and collapsed in an exterior hallway of his condo building, Rosen said. “There doesn’t appear to be any foul play. We believe it was medically related,” Rosen said. Born in Jamaica and raised in Mount Vernon, Heavy D rose to stardom in the 1990s as the frontman for the group Heavy D & the Boyz. He leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter, with whom he was extremely close, Phillips said. “He was a really great dad. Everybody is wondering how she’s going to take it now that he’s gone. She loves her dad so much,” Phillips said. “And his mother is taking it really hard. He’s the third brother in the family to die. Everybody is stunned. No one can believe it. He was so young.” We still can’t believe he’s gone. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. Source More On Bossip! Shhhh!
