Weekend Forecast: We All Win When Black Swan, Phillip Morris Tag Team Ninjas

Welcome back to the latest edition of Movieline’s Weekend Forecat — kind of an abbreviated edition, in fact, seeing as not a single full-scale wide release opens today. The best we’ve got are a bunch of ninjas making their belated debut in 1,600 theaters, while two smaller films you’ve got the hots for tumble into limited release behind it. Let’s make some projections…

VIDEO: Kurt Russell, Sarah Silverman and Dozens More Sing ‘We Are the World’ for Funny or Die

Considering we’re only about four weeks away from Christmas — insert prerequisite “where did the year go?!” quip here — it’s about that time for celebrities to remember the less fortunate among us. With that in mind, here’s Comedy Death-Ray and Funny or Die presenting “We Are the World 25.75,” an almost anniversary celebration of the Quincy Jones supersong in support of the LA Regional Foodbank. Before you get too excited though, heed the words of Kurt Russell: “I want to stress that these are not good singers. This does not sound good at all.”

Why Irvin Kershner Mattered

Irvin Kershner has died at the age of 87. He leaves behind some recognizable films ( The Flim Flam Man with George C. Scott; Eyes of Laura Mars with Faye Dunaway) and several sequels of various prominence ( The Return of a Man Called Horse , Robocop II and the renegade James Bond film Never Say Never Again ), never afraid to explore and extend the story of someone else’s work. So, really, it’s not a huge surprise in hindsight that he accepted the challenge of The Empire Strikes Back , the 1980 effort continuing the story that George Lucas started three years earlier with Star Wars . But could anybody have expected Kershner to knock this particular sequel out of the f*cking park?

Clint Eastwood Was Offered James Bond and Superman But Held Out for Another Superhero

And to think, James Bond fans went apoplectic when Daniel Craig was initially cast as 007 because he was blonde . Quintessential American Clint Eastwood has revealed that following Sean Connery’s exit from the Bond series in the ’60s, he was asked to take over as the suave MI:6 agent. This, years after he was also asked to play Superman on the big screen. So why didn’t this Hollywood icon become even more iconic? He knew better.

Joe Jonas Receives A Timely Present For His 21st Birthday

Pop star recieves James Bond-inspired watch instead of a dog. By Jocelyn Vena The Jonas Brothers at the “Camp Rock 2” premiere Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Joe Jonas may have wanted a dog for his 21st birthday, but even huge stars can’t get everything. Instead, he had to settle on a James Bond-inspired Omega watch. “I got this watch … It’s James Bond’s watch,” Joe proudly told MTV News on Wednesday (August 18) at the New York premiere of “Camp Rock 2.” “It shoots lasers out of it for certain people,” he added. The day before his August 15 birthday, Joe had a mini-surprise party thrown for him on stage at a show in Hershey, Pennsylvania. How did he spend the day itself? Relaxing: “[I celebrated] with family and friends,” he said. “It was awesome. We sat by the pool and hung out.” Joe seemed genuinely pleased with his watch, although when he performed with his brothers on “Good Morning America” , he still seemed to really want that dog. “Besides a dog, I don’t know,” he said when asked about his birthday wishes. “That’s all I kind of wanted. I don’t know [what we’re going to do to celebrate]. These guys are not telling me what they’re doing.” Perhaps his 22nd birthday will deliver him a pooch. What do you think of Joe’s birthday present? Were you surprised he didn’t get a dog? Related Photos JoBros, Demi Lovato, More At ‘Camp Rock 2’ Premiere Related Artists Jonas Brothers

Christopher Nolan Wants to Direct James Bond

With the breathless hyperbole surrounding Inception only just beginning, it would surprise exactly no one if a film critic found a way to compare Christopher Nolan’s self-proclaimed dream heist epic to James Bond. Like you couldn’t picture ” Inception is The Matrix mixed with James Bond, oxygen and gold bars!” scrolling across a TV spot next week? But even if Nolan was busy aping the dapper British agent with a license to kill, it seems that his ultimate goal is to direct the dapper British agent with a license to kill. Yes, this is Bond rumor — but for once, it seems legit!

Could the James Bond Delay Actually Be a Good Thing?

We’ve been told over and over for decades that James Bond will return, and implicit in that promise is that in the in-between time won’t be long at all. The turmoil at MGM has changed all that, however; not only has the next Bond film lost Sam Mendes as the director , but now, according to an irate Harry Knowles , development on the movie has stopped completely (not to be confused with when it stopped indefinitely ). Is that really so bad, though?
