Five new Disney Channel stars say the movie, premiering Friday night, is all about the music. By Jocelyn Vena Bridget Mendler Photo: MTV News It’s Friday, and that means that the highly anticipated new Disney flick “Lemonade Mouth” premieres in a living room near you. The story follows a group of teens who start a band to deal with their high school angst and the stars, who stopped by the MTV News offices earlier this week, said there’s a lot of heart in the story, based on the book by Mark Peter Hughes. That heart, it seems, is reflected in the songs. “I want them to see the music in the movie, because I think that completely changes it,” Bridget Mendler said. “I think that the music alone is really fun.” “Every song has a meaning throughout our story line of Lemonade Mouth,” Adam Hicks added. “We write songs [in the movie] to what we’re going through, and you see us rehearse and you see the band grow.” Naomi Scott wants fans to see that growth over the course of the flick. “I really want people to be able to really know our characters, and I think by the end of the film, they do; they know who Lemonade Mouth are,” she said. But those who aren’t big fans of musicals shouldn’t fret. The cast wants viewers to know: This not a musical. It’s a movie about a band. “It’s not just like a movie where we get up and start singing through the hallways,” Blake Michael said. “It’s real people going through real stuff.” So what should fans be most excited for? “The music, the performances!” the cast said in unison. ‘The first key to being smooth is, you don’t necessarily always have to be smooth,’ will says of their characters. By Kara Warner will.i.am and Jamie Foxx Photo: MTV News The new animated movie “Rio” has plenty of intriguing things going for it, including the wholesome love story of two parrots, bright colors, beautiful scenery and soothing samba music from composer Sergio Mendes. Even beyond that are the comedic stylings of the film’s supporting characters, namely smooth operators/ ladies’ birds Pedro and Nico, voiced by real-life ladies’ men will.i.am and Jamie Foxx . When MTV caught up with the jokesters recently at the junket for “Rio,” we asked what lengths they would go to in order to impress a woman. “I would do anything to impress women, because that’s why we do whatever we do,” Foxx said. “You actually think that we do this for money? That’s nothing. If tomorrow they said that women love tomatoes, best bet, I would have 40 acres of a tomato farm, letting girls do tours, you know what I’m saying? So whatever a woman likes is what I like.” And regarding their key strategies to being smooth, will.i.am had some very creative advice that may or may not involve a loofah. “The first key to being smooth is, you don’t necessarily always have to be smooth,” he said. “You feel what I’m saying? Girls know it. You need to be exfoliated. You can exfoliate with smoothness. You got to rub them rough edges, smooth ’em out. It takes roughness to make it smooth.” “Man, he said it,” Foxx said when asked if his smooth operations were similar to will’s. “Exfoliating was the word,” he said with a chuckle. “I didn’t see that one coming.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Rio.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Hello Bossip fam, lol. I have a problem with a man that I’m dating and I know I’m probably making it a bigger issue than it is. I was married through out my 20′s and been divorced for four years now. Anywho I’ve been dating this guy for about 6 or 7 months now and he’s 3 years younger than me which isn’t a huge difference but it’s enough to make me wonder. Of course he knows why me and me ex-husband divorced and it was because I found evidence of his cheating in his cell phone and it was all I needed to confirm that I wasn’t crazy and that a divorce was in order. The guy I’m seeing now obviously took that and ran with it and now he hordes his phone and granted I told him that if it’s near me I will snoop through it. I believe I meant it as a joke but the more he hides it, it makes me want to go through it! We’re just dating without a real exclusive commitment so it’ snot like I would be justified in being mad at what I find but it really makes me wonder. He won’t even bring the phone in the same room when he stays over or he’ll leave it in the car when we go out. At first I thought it was endearing but now I’m getting suspicious. Should I find a way to get to it or should I leave well enough alone? Good day, sis, thank you for writing in and sharing your story! So, you’re paranoid by the absence of a cellular device when you’re with the man you’re currently dating? Why? If there is no real exclusivity clause in your relationship thus far, then why are you sweating his phone? If he’s not worried about his phone ringing when he’s with you, why are you concerned? He could very well be making a conscious effort to remain courteous, so don’t make a stink about it! And the fact that you’ve already disclosed to him why your marriage ended and that you will not hesitate to go through one’s phone, can you blame him? He’s still entitled to his privacy, Ma! It’s too early in the game for you to be going through the man’s phone! If he’s given you no reason to be concerned with his movements, then don’t sweat it! If he leaves his phone in the car or in another room, who cares? If his attention is devoted to you when you all are together, soak it up! If the communication between the two of you is on point, who cares about a cell phone? He might just want to get to know you without the drama of the “who, what, where when, why and how” line of questioning. A man who’s up to speed on technology knows, through experience or otherwise, that a cell phone can cause a major headache and disturb an otherwise good flow between two people, so they do their best to avoid it. On the other hand, trust your instincts! A woman’s intuition seldom fails her and if you have a gut feeling he’s playing games, you might be right! So do all you need to do to protect yourself emotionally, mentally and physically. If it takes you falling back and taking some space, do it. If you need to initiate an open and honest conversation between the two of you and gauge your movements based upon the results of said conversation, do it … without apology! Here’s the deal, Ma! We all have baggage but what you can’t do is make the mistake of taking all anger and mistrust from your marriage into a new relationship. It’s just unfair and, in the grand scheme of the things, unattractive. So, you should definitely decide whether it’s his actions that have you suspicious or if it’s your past coming back to haunt you. If you need to take time, take it, sis! But by all means, don’t push a potentially promising man away from your life because you can’t let go of the past! Be smart and make smart moves too, sis! Good luck to you! Drum line and colorfully dressed dancers bring ‘Rio’ song to life on ‘Idol’ stage. By Adam Graham Jamie Foxx and will.i.am on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Jamie Foxx and will.i.am brought their “Hot Wings” to “American Idol” on Thursday (March 31). The pair teamed up to perform their new single from the soundtrack to “Rio,” the computer-animated flight tale in which they both voice characters. And they didn’t come alone: They performed with a 12-member drum line and a full team of colorfully dressed dancers, while footage from “Rio” played on the video screens behind them. Neither Foxx nor will.i.am are strangers to “Idol.” Foxx was a mentor to the contestants in seasons eight and nine and also performed on the show during season eight, while will did “Just Can’t Get Enough” with the Black Eyed Peas on the show just two weeks ago and also performed on the “Idol” stage with the Peas in seasons eight and nine. They both clearly know their way around the place by now and were comfortable shouting out the judges (“I see you, Randy!”) mid-song. The song is built around the repeated refrain “I wanna party, I wanna samba” and finds Foxx and will.i.am trading verses, in character as their “Rio” likenesses (Foxx plays Nico, a canary, while will.i.am plays a cardinal named Pedro). They entered the stage together via the “Idol” staircase, and Foxx — dressed in a black suit and dark shades — opened the song. Mr. i.am — dressed in a white jacket, red shirt and porkpie hat — chimed in during the second verse, rapping about ghetto blasters and speedy dance moves. The album version of the song also features the pair’s “Rio” co-star Anne Hathaway, though the Oscar host was not in the Idoldome for the taping. The performance featured elaborate choreography among the dancers (captured by the “Idol” crew via overhead cameras) and staged fighting on the side stage. At the performance’s close, Foxx plugged “Rio” as “fun for the whole family.” The film hits theaters April 15, and the soundtrack — which is already available for download on iTunes — is due in stores Tuesday.
