According to Celebuzz: Janet Jackson has fired off a legal letter to Vanity Fair Editor in Chief Graydon Carter, demanding the publication retract allegations suggesting the music superstar delayed her late brother Michael’s funeral over a financial dispute. In excerpts from Randall Sullivan‘s upcoming book, Untouchable: The Strange Life and Tragic Death of Michael Jackson — and published in the esteemed Condé Nast magazine — it was alleged that Janet, 46, had delayed her sibling’s funeral over money owed relating to the burial plot deposit. “The article states that, according to Untouchable, Ms Jackson put down a $40,000 deposit to secure a burial plot for Michael Jackson but refused to let the funeral take place until that money was repaid. This is untrue,” Janet’s attorney Blair G. Brown wrote in the letter sent on October 5 and obtained by Celebuzz. “Ms. Jackson never delayed the funeral in anyway. In fact, she paid for the funeral and was reimbursed for some of those expenses by Michael Jackson’s estate in the year after the services took place.” Jackson, via her lawyer, added: “In addition, there were other private costs associated with Michael Jackson’s passing that Ms. Jackson incurred and for which she has never sought reimbursement. To falsely accuse Ms. Jackson of holding up her brother’s funeral over money is outrageous. This story is particularly hurtful and distressing because of Ms. Jackson’s strong desire to serve her brother, whom she loved dearly, and she wishes to stand with and support her family.” Brown said the damage to Jackson’s reputation was “exacerbated” because the article was republished by numerous media outlets around the world. “I demand that Vanity Fair retract its statement that Ms. Jackson “refused” to let Michael Jackson’s funeral take place until the money she put down as a deposition on his burial plot was repaid,” the lawyer said. “To the extend that this statement appears in excerpts of Untouchable published in Vanity Fair’s November 2012 issue, I demand that Vanity Fair publish a retraction explaining that the statement is false.” Brown also claimed: “The article is replete with additional false and defamatory statement regarding Ms. Jackson.” We really hope none of this bull is true. T.J. Jackson is now sharing guardianship of Michael Jackson’s three children along with their grandmother Katherine Jackson. This arrangement was already in effect on a temporary basis, but was just made official by a judge in court today. T.J. will assume many of the day-to-day tasks involved in taking care of the children, including management of household personnel and security. T.J. has received enormous support from the family to take a guardianship role. Katherine Jackson herself has praised T.J., as have the children, who have reportedly considered him a father figure for years. No conflict there. The 34-year-old T.J. is Tito Jackson’s son and thus a cousin to Michael’s kids Prince, Paris and Blanket, despite being more than twice their age. The judge told T.J. in court to be mindful of the giant rift currently tearing apart the family and to make sure the kids aren’t adversely affected. Four of Michael’s siblings attempted to oust his estate’s executors last month, while someone may have orchestrated a kidnapping of Katherine. Katherine Jackson says she will not press charges against her kids after she was allegedly tricked into spending about 10 days shacked up at a luxury spa in Arizona without her phone in what some believe was an attempted coup against Michael Jackson’s estate. Her attorney Perry Sanders said, “This chapter of chaos is closed, and we are supportive of family unity in spite of recent events and arguably poor decisions.” Katherine first went missing from her home in Calabasas, Calif., on July 14. In a sworn declaration filed last week, the 82-year-old Jackson family matriarch claimed she planned to drive to see her sons perform in New Mexico on that day, but a doctor advised her to fly instead. She did as instructed. When she got off her private plane, she found herself in Arizona. There, she was put up at a luxury spa, cut off from technology and kept in the dark about the state of Michael’s children – Prince Michael, 15, Paris, 14, and Blanket, 10 – for days while they had no clue what was going on either. That bizarre incident followed a letter sent by Janet Jackson and four of her siblings to the executors of Michael’s estate, accusing them of making bad decisions and putting Katherine – the kids’ legal guardian – in harm’s way. While she was missing, Katherine’s legal custody of Michael’s children was temporarily suspended in favor of her nephew, TJ Jackson, 34. Katherine was reinstated as guardian last Thursday.

A lawyer for Janet Jackson made a statement on her behalf, along with Randy and Rebbie Jackson regarding all the recent hoopla between them and their late brother Michael’s estate: Since the loss of Michael, Janet, Randy and Rebbie’s principal concern has been and continues to be for the safety and wellbeing of Michael’s children, their mother Katherine Jackson, and the entire family. Unfortunately, those people have been harmed by the actions of the executors of Michael’s estate — John Branca and John McClain, the estate’s lawyer Howard Weitzman, and those installed and paid to do their bidding. What will be gained by a finding of invalidity is that the executors will be replaced and the estate and the guardianship will be managed in a manner that is in the best interests of the children, which is what Michael wanted.
