‘RHOAS11’ Recap: Eva Gets Sad News During Her Tokyo Bachelorette Trip

View original post here:

Source: Sergi Alexander / Getty Issa a girls trip! Tonight’s episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta finds the crew in Tokyo for Eva’s second bachelorette celebration. They brave a 14-hour flight, arrive at their nice hotel and sit down for a meal as soon as they arrive, but Kandi is not feeling what’s on the menu. It’s light salads, tuna tataki, etc. Kandi is complaining and acting like a spoiled American because she wants a burger or something that she feels is more substantial while the other women aren’t having any problems digging in. Tanya takes this trip the most serious so she hooks the group up with Aya, a cultural ambassador. Aya goes over some cultural customs and traditions with them. One of the main customs is that they shouldn’t be late. Anyone who is familiar with Japanese culture knows that lateness is highly offensive, more offensive than in a lot of other countries. Unfortunately, this group of women is always late. But hold that thought. Once Aya leaves, Eva takes center stage to try to open up the floor to get the group to talk and get over whatever issues they have—Because these chats are always productive. Eva starts with Porsha. Eva felt some type of way about Porsha calling her out for being shady and two-faced at Tanya’s house. Porsha gets annoyed and says she doesn’t think it’s that deep. Porsha then says she specifically remembers Eva talking trash about Shamea and Cynthia behind their backs but then being nice in their faces so she took Eva to task about that behavior. Then Porsha got a little stank, telling Eva not to play the victim. Eva said she’s not playing the victim but she felt like Porsha was trying to “stunt on her.” Porsha reiterates that she’s wasn’t coming for her and they move on. Finally, dinner wraps with Porsha telling the entire group that she’s pregnant (because only a couple of women know at this point). That’s actually a sweet moment because Porsha learned how to say, “I’m pregnant,” in Japanese, and even Kandi is happy for her, all beef aside. Eva doesn’t have too much time to think about the pettiness because gets tragic news that her grandfather is on life support. He had a heart attack, so here we are. Kandi is there to comfort her and gives her some positive commentary. Eva isn’t going to go home just yet but she is on standby. She’s waiting for her mother to call her back with more news, which will probably be that her grandfather passed away. The group goes sightseeing the next day. Call time was 11:00 am but that went right out the window for some of the ladies. Eva, Tanya, Porsha, Cynthia and Kandi are the only ones on time. Ayo wants to leave the rest of the group at 11:10 but Eva begs her to stay. She does, but she’s highly annoyed because lateness is a great disrespect and they have a lot of things to do that day The gang’s finally all present by 12. They visit a temple and read fortunes, which actually seem to be on point. Eva’s even says that the patient will be well (this can be taken literally or figuratively), which gives her hope. Eventually, they end up having lunch and the drama kicks up again. Kandi is being picky about food again and the rest of them bogart Tanya with questions about whether she’s married or not. Tanya has been engaged to her man for three years but considers herself spiritually married. But then Tanya calls NeNe out on making a comment at the temple that maybe she’ll marry someone else. Tanya feels it’s bad juju to say something like that in a spiritual temple. NeNe gets unnecessarily defensive and says it’s not that serious and that she doesn’t give a f–k. Tanya looks super hurt and confused because she came at NeNe respectfully and she actually considered NeNe a friend. We end the episode on that note but this definitely isn’t over. Next week, NeNe goes Ghost on the group, Eva and Marlo go at it and Eva’s grandfather takes a turn for the worst. In NeNe’s defense, she might be on edge because of her situation with Gregg. We shall see. RELATED POSTS ‘RHOAS11’ Recap: Eva Plans An Apology Trip To Tokyo ‘RHOAS11’ Recap: Kandi And Porsha Hate Each Other Again

Disrupt Harlem Code Squad Empowers Youth Through Tech Education

Read more:

D iversity numbers in the tech industry remain stagnant. Despite African-Americans being one of the top demographic groups for digital consumption, when it comes to forging career paths in the tech industry there isn’t a level playing field. According to a study released by the National Urban League , at major social media and tech companies, less than five percent of employees are Black. Disrupt Harlem Code Squad —a free Harlem-based tech and entrepreneurship program—is aiming to change the status quo by empowering opportunity youth through STEM education. The program—which is an initiative led by the Harlem Business Alliance —was created as an avenue to connect young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 to the New York City tech industry. Over the course of 15-weeks, program participants are provided with one-on-one training, courses on how to code, field trips to the headquarters of tech giants in the New York City area, and ongoing mentorship. Disrupt Harlem Code Squad also puts the emphasis on entrepreneurship; empowering students to design their own mobile and web apps. After completing the program, some of the participants are aligned with internships in the tech industry and others continue to expand their skills at a full-stack developer coding program led by The Knowledge House. As New York City’s tech landscape continues to expand and there are talks about it transforming into the next Silicon Valley, its imperative for opportunity youth from inner-city communities to be able to compete in this industry. Furthermore, tapping into this talent pool can be a solution to closing tech’s diversity gap. “Through our Disrupt Harlem Code Squad initiative, HBA aims to level the playing field for Harlem’s opportunity youth when it comes to entering the tech industry. African-Americans represent less than 2 percent of employees at major tech companies,” Regina Smith , Executive Director, Harlem Business Alliance, told NewsOne. “Shifting the narrative starts with exposure. One of the catalysts for change is introducing STEM education programs to all inner-city youth.  We educate young adults about coding, career pathways in tech as well as basic business fundamentals. We realize our youth possesses tremendous untapped potential and it is our responsibility to invest in the next generation of leaders.” Disrupt Harlem Code Squad has proven to be effective and impactful. Some of the students have received job offers from major tech companies and others have launched their own businesses. Many of the program participants pay it forward by serving as mentors. “Disrupt Harlem Code Squad targets a vulnerable subset of our community—young adults who are under or unemployed—and gives them the tools to make a positive change in their lives.  Tech is a growing industry, but members of our community weren’t being prepared to have those careers,” said Disrupt Harlem Code Squad Program Director Philomena Boateng . “We’ve made our program free because we recognize they don’t have the resources that other “non-traditional” students do to pay the high cost of programs like these. We believe that by educating our youth on a new career path, we’re also giving them the means to improve their economic situation on a long-term basis. We put real action behind inclusivity efforts in tech that some companies only talk about.” As the program gears up for its next cohort, it aims to continue to make an impact in the lives of youth. The program is currently accepting applications and the deadline is September 16. Learn more about Disrupt Harlem Code Squad . T ennis star Naomi Osaka is winning both on and off the court. After defeating Serena Williams , the 20-year-old Haitian and Japanese athlete has become a household name. According to Business Insider , Osaka is slated to make history by inking the biggest deal that Adidas has ever offered to a woman athlete. Naomi Osaka is reportedly set to sign the largest-ever Adidas deal for a female athlete. https://t.co/5wiKBD6LhE — SB Nation (@SBNation) September 12, 2018 Osaka is reportedly working on a deal with the sports brand that is worth $8.5 million per year, the news outlet writes. The deal could possibly make her one of the highest-paid women in the realm of sports; out-earning her tennis opponents. Osaka currently has a contract with Adidas for six figures which is ending this year. It seems as if the Adidas deal is just the beginning of more endorsements to come for Osaka. She recently signed a three-year endorsement deal with Nissan to be one of their brand ambassadors. “With a combination of grit and grace, Naomi Osaka is not afraid to take on the best tennis players of our time, and win,” Asako Hoshino , Senior Vice President, Nissan, told the news outlet . Osaka is humbled to represent the brand and says she was drawn to Nissan because of its “strong Japanese DNA and global competitive spirit.” Osaka’s win over Serena Williams at the 2018 US Open garnered a lot of attention after Williams was hit with a slew of unjust code violations for coaching, breaking a racket, and her exchange of words with umpire Carlos Ramos . Despite the drama surrounding the match, the tennis veteran displayed sportsmanship by giving her opponent encouraging words as the crowd booed the outcome. “She said that she was proud of me and that I should know that the crowd wasn’t booing at me. So, I was really happy that she said that,” said Osaka during a recent appearance on The Ellen Show . America’s Immigration Policy At The Border Is Literally Killing People

More:

A t least two undocumented immigrants recently detained by U.S. immigration agents have killed themselves before their deportations were complete, underscoring the latest worrisome aspect of the growing humanitarian crisis caused by America’s immigration policies. And while the popular narrative has been that only Latinos have been punished for trying to enter the U.S. illegally, an increasing number of Black and brown migrants have also been on the receiving end of the country’s harsh immigration policies. In the most recent instance of this troubling trend, an Eritrean man seeking asylum in the U.S. out of “fear of returning to his country” had his request denied before he killed himself in transit back to his native country, the Associated Press reported . Zeresenay Ermias Testfatsion hanged himself in a detention area at Cairo International Airport while waiting for a connecting flight to, Eritrea which has been fighting a civil war with neighboring country Ethiopia for nearly two decades. The deadly violence at the border and children being snatched from their families is an all-out humanitarian crisis. Here's what it means for Black immigrants. https://t.co/WVnEilZK6E #Immigrants #BlackLivesMatter pic.twitter.com/jUUtwJilTi — NewsOne (@newsone) May 26, 2018 America’s latest immigration policy that separates migrant families at the border by isolating their children has also had a deadly effect, according to reports. A Honduran national who was told his family would be separated once they were detained at the border for illegally trying to cross into the U.S. killed himself last month, NBC News reported  this weekend. Marco Antonio Muñoz hanged himself in a jail cell in Texas on May 13 while awaiting his deportation, law enforcement officials said. He managed to kill himself despite surveillance cameras being trained on the cell he was being held in. Only Trump's @realDonaldTrump blind supporters believe his denial of making racist remarks about Black immigrants. https://t.co/UyJpTf85QT pic.twitter.com/YvzuC9PZym — NewsOne (@newsone) December 24, 2017 With the reports of dozens of Somalians detained in a Florida jail , advocates for Black immigrants cited an “inhumane” immigration legacy for America and decried the divide-and-conquer tactic being employed at the border by the federal government. “It is tempting to label this policy ‘un-American,’ but the truth is, family separation is a devastating tradition in the U.S. From the nearly 250 years of slavery in U.S. to the harsh conditions in Japanese internment camps of the 1940s, U.S. policy has torn families apart, causing deep intergenerational trauma and betraying any sense of humanity,” Opal Tometi, Executive Director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, said in a statement released late last month. “While we expect nothing more from a man who insulted Black and Brown countries in the Caribbean and Africa, we should expect that our society would rise above this continued hateful rhetoric and dangerous immigration policy and call for our leaders to defy our the darkest days of our history and present by enacting laws that provide a just and humane approach to immigration.” Of the roughly 11 million undocumented immigrants in America, just about 600,000 of them were Black, according to the most recent statistics by the  Migration Policy Institute . That was a close second to the  nearly 800,000 undocumented Latino immigrants  in the U.S. SEE ALSO: Trump Ending DACA Affects Black Undocumented Immigrants, Too What The Diversity Visa That Brought NYC Terrorist To U.S. Means For Black Immigrants How One Black Undocumented Immigrant Copes With Changed DACA Status [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3785430″ overlay=”true”]
