Aussie singer gives fans a preview of his full-length Paradise album with four-track EP. By Jocelyn Vena Cody Simpson Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Before Cody Simpson drops his full-length Paradise album in October, he’s giving fans a bit of a preview with a four-track EP released on Tuesday (June 12). And from the looks of Preview to Paradise, there’s a mix of everything, all with that Simpson touch. “I wanted to show each aspect of the album and they all fit together well, while being diverse at the same time,” the Aussie told MTV News on Tuesday. “With my single ‘Wish You Were Here,’ it showed the dance/pop side of my album. [With] ‘Gentleman,’ I wanted to showcase the singer/songwriter aspect of what I do and I thought they all went well together as well. “My favorite song? I don’t know! It’s like having four little kids,” he added. “You can’t really pick a favorite, but I do like ‘Wish You Were Here’ because it’s a great dance song and will be my single for the summer.” “Wish You Were Here” certainly proclaims his love for pop music, and having hit the studio with two of the biggest producers/writers working in the game only adds to the song’s pure pop feel, highlighted by the song’s pulsing beat and Simpson’s swoon-worthy admissions like “All I want/ Is to be home with you.” “It’s a really great feeling when you put a song out there that you feel could compete with artists like the biggest artists out there right now. It’s amazing,” he said. “I recorded this song with amazing producers Dr. Luke … and I wrote it with Taio Cruz and they both had a lot of experience and a lot of big summer hits. It’s cool to be able to work with people that have had experience with that [and] make it as best as it can be while making it my own.” However, while “Wish” is a dance-influenced track, he notes that his musical signature isn’t in the world of churning out club-bangers. “Being a pop artist you also have to have your own little twist here and there,” he said. “I feel like when you get to know an artist and you listen to all their music you kind of start to see things that they do in songs that make it [theirs]. I play a lot of guitar. ‘Wish You Were Here’ doesn’t have too much guitar in it, but I feel like that’s uniquely me.” In addition to dropping Preview to Paradise, the singer is wrapping up his own spat of shows this week. Then he will hit the road with Big Time Rush beginning in July. The tour will kick off on July 5 in Columbus, Ohio, before wrapping up in September, just in time for him to catch his breath before his album drops on October 2. Related Artists Cody Simpson
‘I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces,’ she tells MTV News. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Shailene Woodley at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — It was Shailene Woodley ‘s first time at the MTV Movie Awards , and also her . “The Descendants” star took home the Best Breakthrough Performance Golden Popcorn and commanded the stage during her acceptance speech. But it turns out she was actually much more nervous than she let on. “I started sweating a whole lot. Like, a waterfall of sweat,” she reminisced when MTV News caught up with her immediately after her win. “I don’t even remember what happened, except for Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s smiling, awesome faces. Thank God they were up there. I would have been so nervous.” Sure, Woodley was nominated for a number of prestigious awards thanks to her fantastic performance in “The Descendants,” including a Golden Globe nom. But being invited to — and winning at — the MTV Movie Awards is still a big accomplishment in her life. “It’s the MTV Awards!” she gushed. “Let’s be real. This is crazy.” It turns out that this was an especially great experience for Woodley because she is a huge Russell Brand fan. She called his “awesome” and then dove into her passion for his particular brand of comedy. “He’s one of my favorite comedians. I think he’s just so effing funny, and I’m all about him and everything that he’s saying. He’s like a political, or like an anti-political activist, you know? And I really love his revolutionary thinking. I’m into it,” she said. “[He has] a really profound message, and without being preachy.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. ‘They beat the crap out of me,’ actress tells MTV News about her most formidable opponent. By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Kara Warner Scarlett Johanson at the “Avengers” premiere Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images We already know from the first clip that Scarlett Johansson has some serious stunt work in “Marvel’s The Avengers” — and rightfully so! Her character Natalie Romanoff, better known as Black Widow, is an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and what kind of spy would she be if she didn’t kick some butt? When MTV News caught up with the actress at the red-carpet premiere of the film on Wednesday, we asked her which stunt sequence in the film she was most proud of mastering, and her answer almost turned into a spoiler reveal! “The stunt sequence that I’ve been the most proud of is probably my fight with…” Johansson stopped abruptly. “Actually, I don’t know if I can say!” She looks at someone off camera and asks, “Can I say? I don’t know if I can.” When we asked her if it’s Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Johansson replied, “No,” and her eyes became playfully shifty as she continued, “All I can say is that I had to fight someone else in this film, and they beat the crap out of me in stunt rehearsals. I have to say I could not believe it.” If it’s not Loki, who could she be talking about? One of Joss Whedon’s mysterious aliens, perhaps? All we know right now is that whoever he — or quite possibly she — is, they have some bigger muscles than Black Widow. “I was like, ‘Can you hold it back, OK? You know, I’m trying to work it out here. I’ve got smaller muscles than you,’ ” Johansson said. “I was dragged across the [floor]. When we finally finished [filming] that scene I was just happy to be alive.” The starlet also told MTV News which Avenger got roughed up the most. “We all took a pretty big beating,” she said. “I would have to say either [Black] Widow or Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). We’re on the ground so we’re fighting hand-to-hand and it hurts.” Considering Johansson was “just happy to be alive,” we’re putting our money on Black Widow. “Marvel’s The Avengers” hits theaters May 4 and experts are already predicting a massively strong opening weekend. Deadline reports a box office estimate of $125 million plus, which would make it the biggest non-sequel opening for Marvel. Tickets for the midnight release are already selling out fast. ‘We still love and respect each other as friends,’ model says in a statement. By Kara Warner Anne Vyalitsyna and Adam Levine Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Adam Levine is on the market again, ladies. The Maroon 5 frontman and “Voice” judge and his girlfriend of two years, model Anne Vyalitsyna have reportedly gone their separate ways. According to People magazine, Levine and Vyalitsyna ended their relationship as friends. “Adam and I have decided to separate in an amicable and supportive manner. We still love and respect each other as friends,” Vyalitsyna told the magazine in a statement. “I wish him all the best.” The Russian-born 26-year-old, also known as Anne V, met Levine, 33, at a Sports Illustrated swimsuit-issue release party in early 2010, where Maroon 5 performed. Vyalitsyna has appeared in the last eight of the mag’s celebrated swimsuit editions. Levine was once known as a playboy of sorts, having been linked to a slew of lovely ladies like Jessica Simpson, Cameron Diaz and Natalie Portman, but he has seemed to settle down in recent years. His star has definitely been on the rise since landing the gig on “The Voice,” and he was recently nominated for a Grammy for Maroon 5’s catchy hit “Moves Like Jagger.” Levine is also reportedly up for a role on FX’s horror soap opera “American Horror Story.” Since it seems as though the breakup was amicable, we hope Levine isn’t suffering from too much heartbreak. Though if he is, he can always turn to fellow “Voice” judge Blake Shelton for a shoulder to cry on. Shelton has joked about their friendship in the past, going as far as to admit wanting to kiss Levine. “All I have to say is, it’s true: I have a man crush on Adam,” Shelton admitted to MTV News last month. “It blows me away people can pick up on that just by watching that on television. I want to kiss him. I want to kiss him so bad. I don’t care if it’s mutual or not. Can you honestly tell me that you don’t have a little bit of a crush on Adam? He’s sexy, is the word I’m using.” Related Photos Former Flames: Adam Levine And Anne Vyalitsyna Related Artists Maroon 5
Singer announces that he’s teamed up with Salaam Remi, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin and Max Martin for his latest album. By Jocelyn Vena Usher Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images On his Diplo-produced slow jam, Usher took fans to the “Climax” and gave them and a sensually searing tease to his upcoming album, Looking for Myself. On Friday (March 30), Usher announced that along with Diplo, he also teamed up with Salaam Remi, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin and Max Martin on the album, due June 11. He’s expected to release both a standard and deluxe version of the album. Looking for Myself is the follow-up to 2010’s Raymond v. Raymond , which launched mega-singles like the ubiquitous will.i.am-produced “OMG,” as well as “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home),” “Lil Freak,” “There Goes My Baby” and “More.” He also maintained radio presence thanks to his inescapable collaboration with David Guetta, “Without You,” in 2011. “He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise,” “Without You” collaborator Taio Cruz told MTV News about Usher’s next release. “He always wants there to be the soul in there. I’m kind of, not the opposite, but I’m always like, ‘Let’s get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.’ So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy,” Given their work on “Without You,” that may give fans an idea of what the twosome have up their sleeves for Looking For Myself. “I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I’ve actually been on in the last three years,” Usher said about that song and how it relates to his musical philosophy. “Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. There’s many different genres, and when you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that’s the reality of what music is.” What do you hope to hear on Looking for Myself. ?
