Christina Aguilera To Sing National Anthem At Super Bowl

Singer will help open the February 6 game in Dallas. By Gil Kaufman Christina Aguilera Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images We already know who’ll be playing in the Super Bowl on February 6, thanks to the two exciting wins by the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. And we know that the Black Eyed Peas will provide the halftime entertainment , which raises the obvious question: Who’ll be singing the national anthem before the sure-to-be-epic battle between two of the NFL’s most iconic franchises? Fox and the NFL announced on Monday (January 24) that the honors will go to none other than Christina Aguilera. Though the diva failed to launch a tour in support of her poorly received studio album Bionic and her big-screen debut in “Burlesque” quickly faded, Aguilera will take to one of the biggest media stages there is when she helps open the big game at Cowboys Stadium in North Texas prior to kickoff. If last year’s game is any indication, more than 153 million people could be on hand to watch the game, which last year notched the largest TV audience in history. “I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true,” Aguilera said in a statement. “I am really excited to be part of such an iconic event.” She breaks the string of “American Idol” divas doing the honors, which have been performed by Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks over the past three years. It also puts her into an elite group of stars who’ve recently taken on the difficult tune in the past, which includes Beyonc

Jennifer Hudson Gushes On And On About Her Upcoming Wedding And Relationship With Punk

Jennifer Hudson sounds really happy: On her wedding dress and wedding details: “Everything is already set. We already have our wedding bands and everything made, and Neil Lane made them. I designed [my dress] myself. I did. It has its own show. It is a show, so it has to have its own moment with special lighting and everything, and theme music. Oh, I am so serious. It’s white. That’s the color, in keeping with tradition. Baby came first, but hey. Oh my God, [planning] is so hard, and then the bride has to make all the decisions, and that’s a lot of pressure. It’s like ‘I don’t know what I want!’ One minute I wanted this huge, grand wedding, and now I’m like ‘I don’t know that I want it so big.’ I have to make up my mind again. We’ll have to wait and see, but I know I’ll be wearing Neil Lane.” David, Jr. will look just like his father in his tux. So cute. I’ll have both my Davids. Maybe he’ll walk Mommy down the aisle. That would be so cute!” On her and David’s “Punk and Punky’s” adventuresome relationship “We’re two big, giant kids, and we have the best time together. We call it our Punk and Punky adventures. [laughs] That’s how we are. I think we complement each other well. He’s a genius, he’s super smart, and I think he’s the perfect man for me. That’s the thing – you never know [what adventures]. We’ll just get up, and then there’s the day, and we’ll have no idea what’s going to happen, but we end up not like on this winding, never-ending journey, like ‘OK, what are we doing? What’s happening today?’ but it’s like we’re friends first, and we enjoy each other’s company, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s us together. These adventures are random, he snatches me out of bed, like ‘let’s go!’ It’s like ‘ohh! Where are we going?’ It’s like we’re on the David roller coaster. [laughs].” Awww how wonderful…good for her! Former Oksana Grigorieva Bodyguard: Team Mel All the Way!

Oksana Grigorieva’s ex-bodyguard Kristian Herzog has had some rough things to say about Mel Gibson in the past … like how Mel wanted him dead . Now, though, the guy who likely knows the most about Oksana’s claims against Mel says she’s exaggerating or downright lying about violence. Herzog, who served as her bodyguard until recently, and who may or may not have nailed Oksana , says she admitted to him Mel never punched her. Oksana is a manipulative liar trying to bilk Mel, says Kristian . Rather, Herzog says Oksana told him Mel slapped her. That’s it. Gibson admits slapping Oksana, claiming he was trying to protect daughter Lucia. Herzog, who’s been subpoenaed by Mel’s lawyers in the couple’s custody fight, also says she had a motive for secretly recording Mel Gibson rants . That motive, simply, was “to pressure Mel to pay her money .” Grigorieva reached a $15 million settlement with Mel, but then backed out at the last minute. Soon after, the tapes leaked online, one after another. Oksana, who claims she recorded Mel because she feared for her life, is being investigated by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department for extortion. Who knows if Kristian is the least bit reliable, but it’s interesting that he’s come out against Oksana with such damning claims. Makes you think …

‘American Idol’ Incorporates Even More Changes

Show plans a sudden-death top 20 and eliminates having equal numbers of men and women. By Gil Kaufman Photo: FOX You could see an all-male or all-female top 12 this year on “American Idol.” And instead of viewers at home whittling down the final 24 contestants over three weeks, this year’s show will featuring a single, 20-singer “sudden-death” round that will determine the season 10 finalists. Those are just a few of the additional tweaks “Idol” producers have in store for the upcoming season of the reality singing competition. When “Idol” returns on January 19, viewers will definitely notice the shake-up, according to Entertainment Weekly . “We’re going ahead with a whole fresh change,” executive producer Ken Warwick told the magazine. “Simply because we never thought in our wildest dreams that any show would last 10 years on American television.” You already knew there was a fresh judging panel anchored by newbies Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler and that Interscope Geffen A&M boss Jimmy Iovine will be acting as the in-house mentor. But contrary to earlier reports, contestants will not participate in a video-making challenge after the idea was floated and then abandoned. Another change will also challenge singers who come in with a particular style that they intend to stick with the whole way through. “If you do Motown, then I’m not sure [how] you’re going to sing an R&B song and give it your country flavor,” returning executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said. “You can’t suddenly go [in a painful country twang] ‘Staaaaap! In the naaeeemeee of loooaahve’ — so it’s not going to be like that. They’ve got to be clever with it.” Replacing the old three-week top 24 round in which viewers whittled down the semi-finalists to a top 12, Lythgoe said the top 60 singers were flown to Las Vegas, where they performed on the same stage as the Cirque du Soleil Beatles show “Love.” After 20 were booted, another trimming round in Hollywood will take their numbers down to 20, at which point viewers will vote in a single sudden-death round that will select the finalists from two groups of 10. But, unlike past seasons in which producers split the boys and girls up into equal groups, the final group — which could number 12 or 10, depending on the talent — will not necessarily be evenly balanced. “If I’ve got six fantastic boys and four average girls, I’m certainly not going to throw out a fantastic boy to put in another average girl, or vice versa,” Warwick said. Other notable changes, according to The Hollywood Reporter , include a “substantial modification” to the set, which will be home to new musical director Ray Chew, formerly of the “Saturday Night Live” band, as well as the return of the “Idol” mansion, where the finalists will live during their run on the show. Iovine has hand-picked major producers such as Rodney Jerkins (Janet Jackson, Britney Spears), Ron Fair (Christina Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls), Timbaland (Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado) and Alex Da Kid (Rihanna, Eminem) to help the singers with song selection and provide help with arrangements. In an effort to avoid the loss of headline heat the contestants face when their albums drop later in the year, nearly six months after the show is over, Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair said finalists will start releasing music as the season progresses. “The sands of time are slipping through the hour glass and you want to capitalize while the public is so engaged in the story of winning or losing,” Fair said. “Normally with a new artist, the world isn’t waiting. In ‘American Idol”s case, the public is — they want to hear something great. With a big tail wind like that, you want to set sail.” While many ideas were tossed up against the wall, one that was considered and abandoned was having “Idol” winners face off against former finalists who may have deserved another chance, such as Fantasia taking on Jennifer Hudson or David Cook taking on Adam Lambert. The idea didn’t get very far since few past winners and finalists were keen on it.
