ChitChatter: Don Cheadle Talks About What It Takes For A Black Man To Win An Oscar And How Obama Just Wasn’t Gangsta Enough With Jet Magazine

Kudos to the folks over at JET for one of the best cover stories we’ve read in a minute! Don Cheadle is the mag’s front man this time around and he shows his funny side in the feature, probably a good idea since he’s preparing to premiere his new Showtime series “House Of Lies” very soon. He executive produces and stars in the show about a greedy management consultant who has a cross-dressing son and a father who lives with him. Check out a few of our favorite excerpts from the story below: On His Resemblance To Conrade Murray: “(Conrad Murray) is actually my passion project. You hit it! I want to play Conrad Murray, but I want to do him in drag and somewhat mentally disabled because that’s what will get me my Oscar. Oh wait, for Black people you have to be like a prostitute or a gangster. I’ll do him as a prostitute and I’ll definitely get that Oscar!” On His 20 Year Relationship with Bridgid Coulter (the couple has 2 daughters, Ayana, 17 and Imani, 15): “We were married in a pagan ritual,” jokes Cheadle. “No it just wasn’t planned. Our first daughter wasn’t planned and it just happened. So we were like, we’re together. Are we supposed to get married now? After 20 years, I guess we could. It’s just never been a priority.” On Not Being Hollywood: “It’s not me,” says Cheadle. “If I suddenly became ‘that guy,’ it would seem ridiculous. I’ll kill a hooker or something, or get into a bar fight with Jamie Foxx. I dunno!” On Obama: “I think he inherited an impossible situation. I wish he had not been so much of a consensus-seeker. I just wanted to see a more ‘gangsta’ president. Good stuff right?!? Pick up the issue! More On Bossip! Silver Spoon Swag: Stars That Were Born Rich Already! Damn, Sams!!! The guy who starred as troubled youth Thomas Sams in the 1989 classic “Lean On Me” was arrested in Arizona for allegedly buying 200 pounds of pot from an undercover cop this week. Jermaine “Huggy” Hopkins has been charged with two felony counts of possessing, transporting and trying to sell marijuana. According to police, the 38-year-old actor lives in North Carolina … but traveled to AZ to make the drug deal on Tuesday. Cops in Maricopa County say they set up the sting operation … and after Hopkins took possession of the dope, they pulled over his SUV and arrested him. Cops say they found $100k in cash in the ride. Officials later searched Hopkins’ Arizona apartment and claim they found an additional 100 pounds of weed. Jet Beauty Of The Week: Kelly Rowland Slips And Tells Us How She Really Feels About The “Success” Of Her Last Album

You would think, for as much as you heard “Motivation” on the radio and in the club this year, that Kelly Rowland finally made it rain on them hoes with that last album. She didn’t. So far, “Here I Am” hasn’t even sold 200,000 copies. But in this week’s Jet Magazine, Kelly says she’s not even thinking about that. Or at least, that’s what she’d like us to believe. “I was very happy with the album, period. It was a long time coming and I’m proud that Motivation was nominated for a Grammy; it’s been a really great year,” she says after a brief pause. Her tone holds a mixture of slight annoyance, understandable frustration and reasonable divatude. Mmm hmmm… Poor precious baby. The good news is, Kelly’s not letting your lack of support deter her from her dreams. “I can do whatever I want,” she declares. “I don’t allow anyone to put me in a box. Honestly, if I want to try something, that’s what I’m going to do.” As the year wraps up, Rowland has one New Year’s resolution. “I want an album in the Top 5,” she shares. She’s scheming, plotting and gunning for No. 1. And if “Here I Am” isn’t going to get her there, Kelly’s already putting together her next joint. She wouldn’t talk to much about it, other than to tell readers what she wants to talk about. “I would like to tell stories about grown woman things— what we go through every single day in relationships and love, empowering each other,” she shares. Oh… So another Destiny’s Child album then? Hit the flip for another look from Kelly’s cover shoot.

A Lil Light Afternoon Drizzle: JET Beauty Of The Week Drake Talks About Getting Respect From Errybody

Drizzy covers JET Magazine’s upcoming issue , on stands November 28th. Inside the magazine the rapper chats it up about his perception of his success, his latest album and making it rain on them hoes… Check out some choice quotes below: On Getting Respect: I think that it’s evident that I’m myself, and I think people respect me for that across the board,” he says. “I get respect from the guys who are respected for being real rapper’s rappers. I get respect from women. I get respect from mothers, fathers and kids. It’s very humbling and flattering and incredible, and I’m honored to be in this position because I get to be myself. And I get a lot of love for it.” On His Music: “Music is the only way that I can really vent and tell my story. It’s definitely personal. It’s definitely very vivid, detailed, and I feel it’s an incredible chapter of my life documented,” he says. “All these albums and mixtapes are just time markers for me. Pictures and social media are great, but I think the best way for me to remember real feelings that I’ve experienced is to make music about it.” “I know the album isn’t the most energetic body of work in the world. I wanted people to be with me because my life isn’t just one big party. There are moments I have when I’m by myself, and it’s very reflective,” he says. “I have a desire to come back and do some more aggressive music, because I truly enjoy those anthems and those moments as well. But I think this album is a great balance.” On His Pricy Purchases: “I bought a platinum Rolex, which is something I’ve always wanted. Everybody raps about Rolex — it’s such a fixture in hip-hop music. But only a certain amount of people can get the platinum one,” he says. The watches cost upwards of $50,000. “The gold one is a staple, and I had that when I first started; I just always said to myself, ‘Yo I wanna be able to get that platinum one and not have to worry about the price.’ I finally was able to get it this year.” “I just got my mom a new apartment that she loves so much, and I sent my mom and her best friend to Rome for, like, a week. That was really cool because my mom hadn’t been on a vacation in like 20 years,” he says. Congrats to Drake on his latest magazine cover coup and his success. We’re loving the new album, but we can’t lie — Drake we kinda prefer the more uptempo songs! h1> More On Bossip! Tyrese Talks Twitter, New Movies, Book And Album On The Cover Of JET Magazine

Read the original here:

Singer, actor and now author, Tyrese Gibson, caught up with the editors of JET magazine recently where he discussed topics like his upcoming roles in Fast Five (apart of the Fast and the Furious series) and another Transformers movie which are both scheduled to hit theaters this summer. Tyrese also spoke about his new album which is set to his stores this year and even his first book, “How to Get Out of Your Own Way”, which is set to hit bookstores this April. Looks like Tyrese has been pretty busy lately! The 32-year old also had time to do a full length interview and although all of the Q&A session did not make the magazine, we’ve got the scoop on the interview outtakes below. When Asked why he tweets about God so much : “It’s overwhelming. I’ve actually had people to say, ‘Man this dude talk about God so much, I’m-a unfollow.’ He don’t supposed to follow me. If you don’t want me talking about God, this is my Twitter page, it’s my timeline, I can shout out the man, I can shout out my source as much as I want to. Period. And at the end of the day, I feel like so many people are inspired and motivated by my story and my career and whatever else, I’m giving people an understanding that I didn’t make it this far in my life on talent alone. I’m a thinking man. I’m a God-fearing man. I recognize that God has blessed me and ordered my footsteps, but I’m also saying to everybody, “I’m doing the work.” Like, ain’t nobody given me nothing. Period. And so, I look at Twitter as me saying Thank you to all of my fans.” When asked why he doesn’t edit himself on Twitter: “It’s not something that I purposely do. It’s not coming from a space of rebellion. I just really want people to know some of the things I know. I’ve had people say, ‘I was a big fan of yours, but me loving you just went to a whole other level because of the things that you write and the things that you speak.’ And so, unfortunately this is a town and Hollywood in particular, where people can fall in love with who you appear to be, the surface, right? But then when they get off camera, there’s somebody completely the opposite.” When asked how he stays hungry: “I live my life by these words: ‘You can’t get points today for yesterday’s game.’ You won MVP last week, OK, get over it. It’s like, there’s another level to this thing and people like Will Smith and Denzel and Rev Run and … and like I got a few billion-dollar friends and multi-billion friends … these people have really messed up from showing me this life and lifestyle because I know that there’s a-whole-nother level of playing field out there that I can get to. Now, people get complacent – and I know if you leave this in there, it’s just gonna shake people up – people stop being inspired when they have more than all of their friends. If you do that, then you lose your motivation, because you the highest dude on your playing field. Gotta love that Tyrese.. and his tweets.. Read the rest over at JET.
