Kim Kardashian Says She Gives Up The Glam In Hype Williams Video

Reality starlet tells MTV News veteran video director focused on Kim ‘the artist’ for upcoming ‘Turn It Up’ clip. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Kourtney and Kim Kardashian Photo: Devan Pratt/ MTV News Kim Kardashian is pretty clear about her music career: It’s a one-song deal. Even so, the project is already high-profile, with everyone from Kanye West to The-Dream to music-video maven Hype Williams playing some role in the creation of Kim Kardashian, pop star. And with the song, “Turn It Up,” gaining lots of buzz, fans of the reality starlet are eager to hear the full single and see how the video turns out. From the looks of things, her “one song” idea could wind up being bigger than she envisioned. MTV News caught up with Kim on Wednesday and she revealed some details about the upcoming video. “Hype Williams directed the video. It is so crazy,” she teased. “I mean his looks that he put me in [are crazy]. He really had say in what he wanted, I guess, [for what] Kim ‘the artist’ that I was playing in this role would look like, as opposed to the everyday glam Kim that you’re used to seeing. So, it was really fun to play dress up and have all these other looks that I never really tried before.” Big sis Kourtney was at Kim’s side during the shoot, giving props to her “Kourtney & Kim Take New York” co-star. “Love it! And I was there with her throughout the whole process, which was fun,” Kourtney told us. “Going to the studio and, you know, just everything we did. It was a really fun process.” Kim has been reluctant to give up info about the song, but a source recently told MTV News that the song is a club joint. It’s like “back-in-the-day Jennifer Lopez … a little bit of a Jennifer Lopez feel. It’s totally a dance song,” the source explained. “It’s good and it definitely sounds like [Kim] in my mind. You know it’s her voice. She definitely can sing.” Are you looking forward to Kim’s first official music video release? Tell us in the comments!

Steven Tyler’s Best ‘American Idol’ Quotes From New Orleans

‘From my melodic sensibility, it was really delicious,’ new judge tells one contestant. By Kara Warner Steven Tyler Photo: FOX Night number two of “American Idol” season 10 was shorter than the first, but just as sweet, particularly if you are a fan of new judge Steven Tyler . The unpredictability and wackiness of the Aerosmith frontman is quickly becoming one of the most entertaining aspects of the show. “Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe recently told MTV News that Tyler will be on a tape delay when the show goes live, but even though he is already bleeped out accordingly during these first few weeks of audition rounds, his unique commentary and compliments deserve a recap of their own. So without further ado, here are Thursday night’s (January 20) top Tyler-isms:

American Idol’s Top 3 Auditions: All the Lonely Wee-ple

Exhale, children: Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez didn’t ruin American Idol last night. Not quite. They sat nearby while attention-starved banshees ruined American Idol (and our speakers) on their behalf, but that’s OK. It’s what the audition episodes are all about: our feeling demoralized and a little furious with manipulative, mean-spirited editing. Feels like home. Let’s rake through the two-hour premiere and rehash the three youngsters whose auditions made Steven Tyler perk up like the bemused mugshot he is.

‘American Idol’ Season 8 Finalist Allison Iraheta Weighs In On Revamped Show

‘Fifteen? That’s when everyone is figuring out who the hell they are,’ singer says about new minimum age limit. By Gil Kaufman Allison Iraheta via streaming video on Wednesday Photo: MTV News Allison Iraheta knows what it’s like to be the young kid on “American Idol.” She made it to the top four in season 8 when she was just 16, making her the youngest singer to ever advance that far on the show. But when the now-18-year-old music biz veteran dropped in to participate in MTV’s first-ever post-“American Idol” live stream on Wednesday night, even she was shocked at how young some of the contestants were on night one of season 10’s audition round. “Damn, that’s scary!” Iraheta said via Skype. “I was scared for my auditions. Fifteen? That’s when everyone is figuring out who the hell they are. I didn’t even know who the hell I was until a year ago.” With the age limit dropped to 15 this year, Iraheta said she hopes a young ‘un can win, but admitted that before she came out onstage when she was on the show, she would often totally freak out due to nerves. “Really, be you, be who you are, be true to yourself,” Iraheta advises contestants. The big question of the night, of course, was whether Iraheta missed departed judge Simon Cowell, who famously put her through the ringer a few times during her season. “It was different, right?” she said of the vibe with new superstar judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez . “I think change is good. We all miss him. It’s a little weird at first. I think it’s cool. It’s about time they did a little something different.” Iraheta is sporting new dark locks, which replace her signature flame-red hair. She said the radical change came about after she grew tired of seeing “16 chicks at the mall” with the same kind of red streaks in their hair. Though she couldn’t reveal much detail about her upcoming second album, Iraheta said it was going to be a “hell of a year,” promising some rocking new music. Unlike pal and season 8 “Idol” winner Kris Allen , Iraheta didn’t have specific comments on how Tyler and Lopez did, but she was happy to sing a bit of J Lo’s “Jenny From the Block” to spice up her appearance. We Watched American Idol Last Night And That Sh*t Was _________

The new judges for American Idol made their debut last night with millions of people watching. The reviews are in and most people think the show was ____________. A judgeless mess. Steven Tyler and J Lo joined Randy to do everything BUT judge the talent. It was evident to anyone watching last night that the one thing missing was the mean. Critics weighed in throughout the show and flooded blogs with opinions throughout the night and the consensus is in. The talent is meh and the judges are blah. The first time new gatekeeper Jennifer Lopez had to face the essential task of delivering less than sunny news, she threw up her hands and cried, “This is awful. I can’t do this.” Even if a contestant had the voice of a deaf yak, she would simply look away, or default to a “deer-in-the-headlights” stare. When called on to deal with a similar unfortunate situation, fellow newbie Steven Tyler would fashion a pre-set look of empathy and offer a canned suggestion that the kid plow a less daunting path. For much of the show, Steven Tyler lusted after everything with 2 legs and for a second, you could almost forget he’s in his mid sixties. (Maybe he’s been mummified and preserved by drugs and alcohol.) But for the most part, his plastic face and and impromptu rocker squeals provided the lions share of the comic relief. (And there was very little.) Thankfully, Randy didn’t “dawg” us to death, but then again he didn’t dog anybody, all night. He never even said someone was ‘ehhhh, kinda pitchy’ which is usually what he ALWAYS says. J-Lo spent most of the evening whining about telling the contestants they sucked. Considering the fact that she was never known for her vocals, we’re not surprised she had a hard time telling people the truth. She obviously has a hard time telling it to herself. Overall it gets about a 4.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. What y’all think? Source

Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On The Floor’ Will Be ‘A Big One,’ Producer RedOne Predicts

Lady Gaga collaborator calls new ‘American Idol’ judge ‘a true artist.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Jennifer Lopez Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ Getty Images Jennifer Lopez might be a new judge on “American Idol,” but let’s not forget she’s also a pop star. For her new club banger, “On the Floor,” J.Lo teamed up with Pitbull and red-hot producer RedOne. The producer tells MTV News that for his work with the singer, he thought big. Let’s face it: With J.Lo, you have to go big or go home. “I love J.Lo. I’ve always been a big fan. She’s a true star. They asked me to work with her and I was like, ‘Absolutely,’ ” he explained. “She’s one of those that I’ve always admired. What she’s done with the music and film and everything, she’s a true artist — a 360 artist. “It was natural for me to get into the studio with her,” he continued. “I’m excited about J.Lo’s ‘On the Floor.’… It’s getting the most incredible reaction. I’m happy for her.” RedOne knew that if he was going to make a smash for the star, there would be several elements involved: dance, parties and her Latina heritage. He hoped to capture it all on the club-ready track, which samples Kaoma’s worldwide hit “Lambada,” and definitely has a Latin flare. “She’s a dancer. She can sing. I was really amazed, and I had so much fun working with her,” he gushed. “Her energy and everything about her is a star, and it was natural for me to do what we did. “Of course, she’s global: She’s a global artist,” he continued. “She’s a global actress, and the music has to be global, and the rhythmic side of it or the Latin and this thing of a dancer [all has to be there]. “She said, ‘I want to dance. I want to make people dance and be able to sing with me.’ That’s what we did, and it feels good. I think we’re going to have a big one.” What do you think of “On the Floor”? ‘American Idol’ Champ Kris Allen Rates Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez

‘Steven Tyler was obviously the most interesting one,’ he tells MTV News ‘Idol’ expert Jim Cantiello during our post-show live stream. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Kris Allen during MTV News’ post-“American Idol ” live stream on Wednesday Photo: MTV News For our first-ever post- “American Idol ” live stream, “Judging the Judges: An ‘Idol’ Without Simon,” MTV News’ resident “Idol” expert Jim Cantiello brought in the big guns to discuss and dissect the premiere episode of the 10th season. A major highlight was the appearance, via Skype, of season-eight champ Kris Allen, who said hello with his dog Zorro and offered his thoughts on the new judges. “I thought they were good. I thought Steven Tyler was obviously the most interesting one,” Allen said. “I figured he was going to be a wacky kind of guy, and, I mean, you can’t be mad at him for singing [along] all the time — he’s freakin’ Steven Tyler! I thought it was awesome, I really did.” When asked how Tyler and Lopez might have influenced his audition, had they been the judges during Allen’s winning season, the 25-year-old said he hoped the Aerosmith frontman would have joined in on his audition like he did on Wednesday’s episode. “That would [have been] awesome,” Allen said. “It’s probably a little bit different to sing for someone like Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, because they have been in the industry for so long and you’ve been watching them do it forever, so it would probably be weird.” On the whole, Allen said the evening’s viewing experience — which he shared with his wife, Katy, and a couple of friends — was a good time. “It was fun,” he said. “It wasn’t mind-blowing or anything. I thought there were some good singers. I thought there was some funny stuff, and I thought Steven Tyler was great,” he said, adding that his dog, Zorro, definitely liked J.Lo the best.
