Report: Jennifer Lopez will NOT Judge American Idol

So much for those rumors. Following the near-confirmation that Jennifer Lopez would join the American Idol judging table next season, a new report says this will not be the case after all. Speaking to People , the insider blamed J. Lo’s dive-like behavior for the dissolution of a deal, saying: “Her demands got out of hand. Fox just had enough.” It’s true that Lopez is the only person to have the number-one album and number-one movie in the same week. It’s also true that was nine years ago and she’s spent more of the remaining time searching for relevancy. Perhaps she should check her ego at the Idol door. So, where does the show turn now? Steven Tyler is still a strong possibility, and Kara DioGuardi has not been officially let go yet. We’d love to see Harry Connick Jr. included, but no way the table doesn’t include at least one female. Returning producer Nigel Lythgoe says he’d love to bring back Paula Abdul, but she’s under contract with CBS. Are you disappointed by this news? Do you wanna see Tyler and Lopez on board?

Jennifer Lopez Reportedly Out As Potential ‘American Idol’ Judge

‘Her demands got out of hand,’ a source told People.com. By Kyle Anderson Jennifer Lopez Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images After a flurry of “American Idol”-related news about two weeks ago (lead by Ellen DeGeneres giving up her seat behind the judges’ table ), things have been relatively quiet on the “Idol” front. When DeGeneres stepped away, rumors swirled that Jennifer Lopez was the top candidate to take the job (with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler supposedly rounding out the roster). But according to People.com , Lopez’s name has been scratched from the list of potential candidates. “Her demands got out of hand,” a source told the site. “Fox had just had enough.” If this development proves to be true, it leaves one of the most popular shows on television still in a chaotic transition period. Show creator, executive producer and lead judge Simon Cowell has checked out in order to focus on his new program, “X-Factor.” Meanwhile, DeGeneres has already exited and rumors continue to suggest that Kara DioGuardi has also judged her last contestant on “Idol.” Though original executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is back in the fold (and wants to bring back Paula Abdul), the future of the show remains decidedly up in the air. With Lopez theoretically out, maybe the producers should consider Mariah Carey . According to her husband, Nick Cannon, Cary has talked about the possibility of working on the show (where she has served as a guest mentor in the past). “She says, ‘I would love to do that.’ She is one of the greatest singers of our time; she would be great,” Cannon told The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do ‘Idol.’ Let’s start the campaign!” Meanwhile, preparation continues on the upcoming 10th season of “American Idol.” Auditions are taking place in Austin, Texas, Wednesday (August 11) and are scheduled for San Francisco on August 19. The new season will premiere on Fox on January 12, 2011. Who would you like to see behind the judges’ table on “American Idol”? Let us know in the comments! Why Jennifer Lopez Was All Wrong for American Idol, and Courtney Love is Just Right

Though it had been widely assumed that American Idol’s revamped judging panel would feature Randy Jackson and new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, People is reporting that Lopez’s “demands got out of hand,” and now she’s out of the mix. Might this actually be a good thing? After all, while Lopez and Tyler represented a casting coup for the on-the-ropes series, there’s ample reason to believe that those big names may have actually worked against them — though if producers are dead-set on picking an A-lister, I have just the icon in mind.

‘American Idol’ Alum Chris Daughtry Weighs In On Judging Changes

‘Huge Aerosmith fan’ is intrigued by possibility of Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez joining panel. By MTV News staff Chris Daughtry at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images Chris Daughtry comes from a simpler reality-show era; he was on “American Idol” in 2006, when the show had its three founding judges — Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson — passing judgment on the contestants that crossed their path. Now, of course, Abdul is long gone, and Cowell has followed her out the door . Meanwhile, recent addition Ellen DeGeneres left the show after just one season, and rumors are thick that Kara DioGuardi, a judge since 2009, might head for the exit as well . Though the “Idol” landscape has changed drastically since Daughtry’s time on its stage, the multiplatinum rocker is very much looking forward to seeing what Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez , who are rumored to be joining the panel for the show’s 10th season, will bring to the table.

Paula Abdul Supports Randy Jackson as American Idol Judge

Nigel Lythgoe may be back as the producer of American Idol , and he may openly desire Paula Abdul as a judge on the show, but this isn’t going to happen. The singer is under contract with CBS for a new show titled Got to Dance . But Abdul did speak to TV Guide this week about her former home and answered questions about its judging predicament. Excerpts follow… On Lythgoe : I have the utmost respect for Nigel. Him going back to American Idol

Steven Tyler’s Rumored ‘American Idol’ Gig Surprises Joe Perry

Aerosmith guitarist says Tyler’s judging job is a ‘done deal,’ but the rocker didn’t give the band a heads-up. By Mawuse Ziegbe Joe Perry and Steven Tyler Photo: Kevin Kane/WireImage Aerosmith’s Joe Perry said he has been in the dark about bandmate Steven Tyler’s alleged “American Idol” plans and that he only heard the news when rumors of the singer’s new gig hit the Web. “I found out on the Internet, like the rest of the world,” Perry told The Boston Herald. “There was an Aerosmith afterparty at Studio 54 after the [Las] Vegas show — which none of us in the band knew anything about — and he said some stuff there,” Perry said. “I mean, this is no small thing.” Perry also revealed that he’s under the impression that Tyler has already inked a contract with “Idol.” The guitarist said he would have appreciated a heads-up, since the decision has repercussions for the rest of Aerosmith. “I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn’t tell me about this,” Perry said. “Why so secretive? We’re told it’s a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We’d like to plan our lives, ya know?” Perry’s concerns suggest that Tyler will indeed take a seat at the judges’ table when the 10th season of “Idol” kicks off. Rumors have been swirling about the rocker’s move to the talent competition since Ellen DeGeneres announced her departure from the show after one season. Singer/dancer/actress Jennifer Lopez is another celebrity name that has been thrown around as a possible addition to the show. The fate of the remaining judges — Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson, the only remaining judge who has been dishing out feedback since the show debuted in 2002 — still hangs in the balance. “Idol” reps offered a “no comment” when contacted by MTV News regarding reports that DioGuardi had been ousted from the show. Even before DeGeneres’ recent exit, Fox had not confirmed a replacement for straight-talking judge Simon Cowell , who announced in January that he was abdicating his post after the ninth season. However, with the return of executive producer Nigel Lythgoe , the “Idol” judge lineup may firm up soon. Lythgoe has been vocal about his dream critic team and said he would push to get stars such as Elton John and Usher to give pointers on “Idol.” Lythgoe has also said he would welcome back onetime judge Paula Abdul. Abdul, however, has a deal with CBS for her own dance show. Lythgoe said he’s open to bringing Tyler’s wild style to the show. “He has come through that whole rock-and-roll circus,” Lythgoe recently told Variety. “Why wouldn’t you want a legend there? You never know what he’s going to say. That, as a TV producer, you’re interested in.” What do you think of Steven Tyler joining “American Idol”? Sound off in the comments below! Nigel Lythgoe Confirms Return to American Idol

One Brit is out and another is in. With Simon Cowell out of the American Idol fold, former producer Nigel Lythgoe – who left this post in 2008 – has returned to the show he helped make famous. He released the following statement today: “Working as executive producer on American Idol for its first seven years not only was an inspirational journey into the heart of American pop culture, it opened my eyes to the untapped potential of the incredibly dynamic young people in this world… I am elated and honored to be rejoining childhood friend and fellow executive producer Ken Warwick, and look forward to creating more magic.” Will that magic include Lythgoe as a judge? No. What about Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler ? Lythgoe would not confirm those rumors, but is on record as saying he “loves” Paula Abdul and would love to have her back on Idol . That wacky judge is under contract with CBS for a new dance show , however. No word yet on whether or not her pharmacist is changing networks with her.

‘American Idol’ Brings Back Nigel Lythgoe

Former ‘Idol’ executive producer left the show in 2008 to focus on ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Nigel Lythgoe Photo: Getty Images In addition to switching up the judges’ panel, “American Idol” is making some changes behind the scenes: Nigel Lythgoe, a former “Idol” executive producer, is returning to the Fox hit. Reps from the show confirmed to USA Today that Lythgoe, who left “Idol” in 2008 to focus on “So You Think You Can Dance” as an executive producer and judge, will be back on “Idol” for the upcoming season. The TV exec has reportedly signed a two-year contract to shape the show alongside creator Simon Fuller and executive producers Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Ken Warwick. Lythgoe’s return might mean that a decision about the ever-evolving judges’ panel will be announced soon. Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres have both announced that they will not return to the talent behemoth, and the show’s producers have not publicly revealed the official lineup for the upcoming season. However, Lythgoe has been vocal about who he would bring in to the “Idol” fold, citing Elton John and Usher as ideal critics. The TV exec has also mentioned that he would circle back to the show’s original formula and put Paula Abdul behind the judges’ table. For Lythgoe, the show lost its footing , and he recently commented that the ninth season ran into trouble when “Idol” producers shifted the focus away from the contestants. “The team took their eye off the ball a little bit and was more worried about the judges and what was happening with them than it was regarding the talent last year,” Lythgoe said in a June interview with The Canadian Press. “It became about Kara [DioGuardi] joining and making the fourth judge; Paula [Abdul] leaving; Ellen [DeGeneres] joining and Simon leaving — and much more about them and concentrating on that than on the talent that they were finding.” While it is clear that Lythgoe will head back to “Idol,” the rumored addition of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler to the show has not been confirmed. Fox Entertainment Chairman Peter Rice recently addressed rumors surrounding the future of “Idol” and told reporters that “much of the information that has been written is accurate” but added that some reports have been “widely inaccurate.” Are you happy one of the show’s original producers is back behind the scenes?
