The Situation Speaks on Rehab, Recovery

When Jersey Shore returns this summer, it’ll be a very different Situation. Now on the road to recovery, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is opening up for the first time about his stint in rehab earlier this year in an interview. He comes clean in the sit-down about the root of his problems . “My addiction was prescription painkillers. At first, I thought it gave me energy, helped me,” he tells MTV. “Being in this business is not easy. I made a mistake by picking a substance over what I previously chose, which is fitness.” Mike adds that he never had a problem with alcohol or cocaine and even says he was barely drunk on the show … a dubious claim, but still. “You can’t get girls if you can’t speak to them,” Situation says. Mike says despite some of their epic fights, the cast has all been supportive: “At the end of the day, all the kids care for each other,” he says. Sitch says he will be back this summer and fist pumping like a fiend at Karma. As for his pregnant co-star, Snooki’s getting her own house . [Photo: WENN.com]

Phillip Phillips ‘Excited’ For ‘American Idol’ Finale

Oddsmakers think Jessica Sanchez’s chances of winning are slim. By Gil Kaufman Phillip Phillips on “American Idol” Photo: Michael Becker/ FOX From his no-nonsense stage attire to his humble attitude and meat-and-potatoes taste in music, “American Idol” finalist Phillip Phillips
isn’t that different from many of you. And, like you, the guy doesn’t always feel like showing up to work when he’s feeling sick. But when attendance means a shot at a major-label recording contract and potential stardom, you suck it up and punch the clock even when you aren’t feeling it. With just one more performance before Wednesday night’s coronation show, Phillips, 21, who has struggled with a painful case of kidney stones the entire season, is happy that the end is near. “Yeah, I’ve been sick the whole show,” said Phillips in a press conference on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Seated next to his rival, 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez, Phillips admitted that the painful condition has affected his singing on the show at times. “I’m doing all right. It’s almost over, so I’m excited.” As viewers may have noticed, Phillips has been absent from the weekly Ford video segments. A source close to the show telling the magazine that the singer has been experiencing pain that is “so severe” that he’s been given special permission to sit out the physically exhausting shoots. TMZ reported last week that Phillips’ doctors ordered him to undergo “immediate surgery” or face further complications. The singer said he wanted to put off the procedure to make it through the show’s finale, despite the fact that the medication he’s taking causes dry mouth, which has had some impact on his singing. Citing several sources, the site reported that when Phillips returned to Georgia for his “Idol” home visit, his doctor was alarmed at the pawn shop worker’s condition. Recovery from the kidney surgery would take at least six weeks. Phillips has taken a firm stand on the surgery, but he appears to be loosening up a bit when it comes to his equally adamant rejection of “Idol”‘s attempts to get him to jazz up his bland jeans and t-shirt wardrobe. He told the Reporter that he might switch things up a bit for Tuesday (May 22) night’s show. “You might be intrigued,” he said. “I might be looking a little sexy.” Phillips has been struggling
, but rival Sanchez has also been making some serious sacrifices. “Right now people my age are going to prom and getting ready for homecoming,” she said. “I’m here performing in front of celebrities, singing with celebrities … singing in front of millions of people.” The Chula Vista, California native, who has a chance to be the youngest “Idol” champ and the first female to win
in five season, is happy to miss prom to get a chance to sing with original “Dreamgirls” star Jennifer Holliday on Wednesday night’s two-hour finale. But Sanchez might want also want to dodge the many online oddsmaker’s sites if she wants to keep her hopes up for Tuesday’s last singing round. Deadline Hollywood reported that betting sites are tipping heavily in favor of Phillips, with Ireland’s Intrade giving him a 78 percent chance of winning, while an “Idol”-focused wagering site puts him as the favorite with 4 to 13 odds over Jessica’s 5 to 2 odds. That means that you will get a $4 profit for every $13 you bet on Phillips, while Jessica will earn a $5 profit for every $2 bet. The Situation Opens Up About Rehab, Snooki And Sobriety

‘I’m not gonna lie, it feels like you’re not gonna recover,’ the ‘Jersey Shore’ star tells MTV News in an exclusive post-rehab interview. By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Photo: MTV News The mantra you often hear from people in recovery is “one day at a time.” And two months after entering a facility to deal with a prescription-medication addiction, “Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino knows exactly what that means. “Ever since I’ve been out, I’m not gonna lie … it’s not easy,” Sorrentino told MTV News’ Sway in an exclusive interview in which the “Shore” star talks about his struggle to get sober and his attempts to make amends with his “Shore” roomies, especially soon-to-be-mom Snooki . “But at the same time, where I’m at right now, I’m at a good place. But it took a little bit to get there. In the beginning? A lot of rainy days, so to speak. A lot of rainy days.” In the candid interview, Sorrentino opened up about how he got hooked on prescription pills while denying rumors that any illicit substances were involved. With a renewed, more focused sparkle in his eye, the drama king “Shore” viewers loved to hate in recent seasons said he could barely recognize the man he’d become under the grip of addiction as he recounted the struggle of his first days in rehab. “Your first day is detox,” he said of the program he attended. “It’s not a pleasurable experience at all. … In the beginning, for sure, when I was [at the facility] in Utah, I’d wake up and just be extremely disappointed with myself. Like, ‘I can’t believe I got here. How did I get here?’ ” Mike said he worried about how his addiction would impact his family, his health and his mind, and at one point, he wondered if he’d end up another tragic Hollywood headline if he pushed things too far. The hardest part for him, he said, was the headlong rush of emotions he felt once he began to come out of his drug fog, a torrent of feelings he’d been blocking that nearly overwhelmed him. “I’m not gonna lie, it feels like you’re not gonna recover,” he said about that emotional roller coaster. “It feels like an impossible deed … [but] day-by-day it gets better.” Now that the “old Mike” is back, Sorrentino said he’s gotten supportive emails from much of this “Shore” TV family over the past two months, but the one relationship he still needs to repair is his once-close bond with Nicole ” Snooki ” Polizzi. “She had my back and I had her back too,” he said of the formerly tight duo. “We were close for a long time. … I am going to say that I am upset that we’re not as close as we are today. I care about the girl, for sure.” Mike said Snooki did tell him she was worried about him and asked if he was OK during the throes of his addiction, questions he brushed off at the time. When asked by Sway if there was anything he’d done that he’d want to apologize to Snooki for, Sorrentino was quick to answer. “Hurting her feelings,” he said. “I would never want to hurt that girl’s feelings. That girl is very special to me. If I could turn back the clock, which I always say that I have no regrets … definitely hurting her feelings … and our friendship.” Related Videos Exclusive: Mike ‘The Situation’ Speaks

Mac Miller Makes It The Best Day Ever At Bamboozle

‘I’m just tryin’ to bring a show, man,’ Mac told MTV News just before his high-energy set at Friday’s festival kickoff. By Rob Markman Mac Miller Photo: Brian Phares/MTV News ASBURY PARK, New Jersey — There’s only so much partying on Fifth Ave. that a man can do, so on Friday night, Mac Miller hit the Jersey Shore and threw an old-fashioned beach party. “I’m just tryin’ to bring a show, man. I want to bring a performance, I want to bring them into the Macadelic experience, ” Mac told MTV News hours before he took the stage at the Bamboozle music festival in New Jersey. Skrillex , Mike Posner, Incubus and Miller all took to Bamboozle’s main stage on the opening night of the three-day fest, and they didn’t disappoint. For Mac’s set, which began at 7 p.m. ET, the Pittsburgh MC brought a portion of his Macadelic Tour to concertgoers who had come to see an array of rock, rap and EDM artists. It was all high-energy when Miller, who was dressed in an “RIP MCA” tee, set things off with the title track from his #1 debut album, Blue Slide Park. From there, EZ Mac launched into “Don’t Mind If I Do” from his 2010 breakout tape, K.I.D.S. Always one to represent for his crew, Miller, his DJ, Clockwork, and hypeman Treejay bounced up and down to “My Team,” and then turned things up a notch with the rambunctious “Knock Knock,” all to the youthful crowd’s delight. While a majority of the Rostrum rapper’s catalog is centered on feel-good jams, he does show range on introspective cuts like “Angels (When She Shuts Her Eyes).” Even when he wasn’t ping-ponging frantically across the stage, the crowd responded to Miller’s more subdued tracks by waving their hands side to side, showing him that they too are capable of more than just getting crunk. Before he dove into “Best Day Ever,” Mac took a bit of a breather while old Miller family home movies played on a big screen. All the teenage girls cooed as they watched baby Mac open birthday presents and sing along to the Sugar Hill Gang’s seminal hip-hop track “Rapper’s Delight.” “I wanted to represent the music through visuals, I’ve always been a very visual person,” he explained to us before the show. “I wanted to use that to create the aesthetics of the show and show people what all of the songs mean to me and put them into that world.” Miller picked up the mood with the electric “Frick Park Market” and drew immediate crowd participation with the first line. After spitting, “My name Mac Miller,” the crowd responded right on time with a thunderous, “Who the f— are you?” It was a lesson on how to properly connect with your audience, one that’s invested in every word you rhyme. Last year when Miller dropped his now-gold-selling single “Donald Trump,” he promised to “take over the world,” and despite all of his success he still makes that vow at the end of each and every show. Last night was no different. After a 40-minute set, Mac sealed the deal with a spirited rendition of “Trump” and then marched off to continue to make good on his promise, one stage at a time. DeadMau5 Ignites Twitter Feud, Calls Pauly D’s New Video ‘Garbage’

‘Night of My Life’ video ‘typical bottlepopping playpressing garbage im sure everyones sick of,’ deadmau5 tweets. By Jocelyn Vena Pauly D Photo: WireImage After putting to bed his feud with Madonna , it seems EDM star deadmau5 is embroiled in a new Twitter beef, this time with MTV’s own DJ Pauly D . It all began when Pauly posted a link to his new music video for the track “Night of My Life.” He asked his fans, followers and Twitter in general, “So how do you like the video?” Mau5 apparently checked it out and didn’t like what he saw. “Well since you asked,” deadmau5 tweeted , “I didn’t really enjoy it. it looked like it cost about $150 to make, and nothing really creative about it.” @ DJPaulyD well since you asked, i didn’t really enjoy it. it looked like it cost about $150 to make, and nothing really creative about it. — deadmau5 (@deadmau5) May 17, 2012 For those wondering what made Mau5 so mad, the video’s concept is pretty simple and by all standards, pretty innocuous. It plays out almost like a mini-episode of Pauly’s MTV show, “The Pauly D Project,” following him from gig to gig, confetti and champagne flying everywhere. It also features some behind-the-scenes moments, including the “Jersey Shore” star hanging with his pals and meeting fans. Pauly didn’t let the jab go, but did offer up a little quip to answer his fellow DJ’s dig. He tweeted, “T-Shirt $40 Jeans $120 Hair Gel $12 Being Hated On By deadmau5#Priceless.” Like any good feud, it didn’t end there. Dead’s response? “hating? the f—? you clearly don’t know me enough if you thought that was ‘hating’. was just some friendly-ish advice.” Things continued to escalate on Dead’s side, with him tweeting responses including, “i’ll just leave it at: ‘Don’t blame your failure on haters. Now That Would Be The #NightOfMyLife.” As the whole beef came to an end, Pauly had a few final words before ending the battle on his end. “Maybe He Just Needs Some Cheese To Go With His Whine … #WheresMyMau5Trap,” he said, then tweeted, “Well @DeadMau5 Today Was A Pleasure , Hope U Had Fun Too , But I Got Show To Watch Tonight #PaulyDProject U Should Tune In@MTV.” Sound off on the Twitter feud in the comments below! Lifetime has released the first promo pic for Bristol Palin ‘s upcoming reality series, called “Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp.” Yes, this is a real story and a real show. The title is a play on words, natch, because her three-year-old son is named … Tripp. Is he Tripp Palin or Tripp Johnston? That we don’t know honestly. What’s undoubtedly clear? The kid’s a dead ringer for his deadbeat dad : The show chronicles Bristol and Tripp’s journey from Wasilla, Alaska to Los Angeles, Calif., where Bristol accepts a job with a local non-profit organization. Bristol Palin tells TV Guide of her decision to star on her own reality show : “I was game for it. I wanted to show how down-to-earth my family and I are. My parents were skeptical at first. But they know I’m responsible.” “I won’t be getting drunk on TV. This isn’t Jersey Shore . It’s a family show.” Okay, there’s no way Sarah Palin objected to any publicity for her family. Unless she’s just jealous that she’s not starring, in which case we’ll buy it. The 14-episode Life’s a Tripp premieres June 19 on Lifetime. Spoiler alert: She will not be letting trip watch Glee, as she thinks it makes kids gay .

Jay-Z Supports Obama On Gay Marriage

Made in America festival curator says, ‘What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love.’ By Jocelyn Vena Jay-Z Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images Jay-Z has long backed President Obama, and after last week’s headline-making news that Obama supports same-sex marriage , the hip-hop mogul is applauding the president for breaking new ground and helping bring progress in the gay-rights movement. “I’ve always thought it as something that was still holding the country back,” Jay-Z told CNN in Philadelphia, where he announced the launch of the Made in America festival . “What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.” Asked whether the declaration would cost Obama votes among religious African-Americans in his re-election bid, Hov said, “It’s really not about votes. It’s about people,” adding, “I think it’s the right thing to do as a human being.” Jay is hardly the first celebrity to come out in support of Obama’s comments. Everyone from “Jersey Shore” stars Snooki and JWoww to “Vampire Diaries” actress Nina Dobrev and boy banders the Wanted have all backed Obama. “It was definitely happy news, but I almost don’t want to applaud him too much, because I wish he would have done this a long time ago,” Perez Hilton told MTV News. “Having said that, it’s better that he did it than not. He could have waited until after the election. However, it’s clearly a calculated move in that he felt confident that this won’t hurt his chances at getting re-elected, and that’s why he did it.” Share your thoughts on this story in the comments below!
