Patrick Stump Recalls Giving Himself Bad Haircuts On ‘When I Was 17’

‘It did not look cool, but I was so convinced that it was,’ Stump says on Saturday’s episode. By James Dinh Patrick Stump appears on the upcoming episode of “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News Patrick Stump may be rocking a head full of spiky hair nowadays, but just a few years before the Fall Out Boy alum made it big, he had a different sort of look. On the latest episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” the singer/songwriter reminiscences about his teenage years when he used to be his own barber. “When I was 17, I cut my own hair and always did a botched job on it,” Stump admits without any hesitation on the upcoming episode, which airs Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. “It was terrible. It did not look cool at all, but I was so convinced that it was.” And how exactly does one mess up a buzz cut? Patrick said it’s all about angles. “I would take the barber clippers and buzz my head, and straight on it would look fine, but you would always miss these hairs around your ears,” he explained. And it wasn’t subtle mistakes, either. “So it was just kind of these long strands right over here. It was a weird look,” childhood friend Pete said. Stump explained that his haircut imperfections had the soon-to-be singer donning a rather interesting look. “So every so often they’d flop over and I’d have this weird, like, owl thing going on,” he said. “It was horrible. The haircut thing was not the best idea, probably.” In addition to Stump, this week’s episode of “When I Was 17” also features “Jersey Shore” newcomer Deena Nicole Cortese , who opened up about her dirty-dancing antics as a teen. “I remember making up this crazy dance move, like sexy moves, you know, like shaking your butt,” she admits. “Everybody was sitting there like, ‘Oh my God, where did that come from?’ ” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Deena Cortese and Patrick Stump — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. Kim Sozzi Ready To Release Self-Titled Second Album

Dance hitmaker calls ‘Little Bird’ Annie Lennox cover ‘a standout track.’ By Adam Stewart Kim Sozzi Photo: MTV News She’s an original Jersey Shore girl. She didn’t need to GTL or puff-her-poof before taking the stage at the legendary D’Jais nightclub in Belmar, New Jersey. All she needed was great music and her loyal fans. Kim Sozzi has always seemed to have a knack for that true Jersey Shore vibe. Growing up in Long Island, New York, and getting her start in the club scene, Sozzi is one of dance music’s most-iconic vocalists. Through various projects, labels and collaborations, she has maintained her position as one of underground dance music’s most-sought-after hitmakers, and after two years, is set to release her second studio album, the self-titled Kim Sozzi . While no official release date has been set, Sozzi assured MTV News that the album is complete and ready to go. “It’s totally different from my dance [music] and my previous singles,” Sozzi said. “I wanted to do something a little more mainstream. Hopefully my dance fans are going to follow me over, but if not, I have plenty of classic Kim Sozzi songs on the album.” After releasing “Rated R,” the album’s first single, back in December, Sozzi is gearing up to release the second track, “Little Bird,” a cover of the Annie Lennox classic. “I love, love, love this record. It came out great,” Sozzi gushed. “The guys from Beatport actually did the production. They did a killer job. This is definitely going to be a standout track on the album … It’s totally a song for the fans.” Produced by former Beatport staffers Brad Roulier and Shawn Sabo, known as Manufactured Superstars, “Little Bird” shows Sozzi at her best. With her distinctly sexy swagger and stunningly soulful vocal prowess accompanied by clean and crisp production from the Denver duo, this little birdie seems geared to fly up the charts. Sozzi has been a magnet for producers since she burst onto the scene back in 2001 with the epic Sound Factory NYC anthem “Feelin’ Me,” produced by Hex Hector and Jonathan Peters. She was launched almost instantly on a path to chart success, becoming a go-to for dance producers and topping the Billboard dance chart several times. In 2004, she joined the production quintet Mynt, which pumped out classic dance smashes such as “How Did You Know?” “Stay” and “Still Not Sorry.” To the dismay of their fans, the group split up in 2006 amid what many speculated were creative differences. “It’s tough because when you’re working with producers, it’s a double-edged sword,” Sozzi explained. “It’s great because you have these built-in people working around the clock and playing and producing, but then you also have everyone wanting to be the star, so it’s definitely a bit tricky. “But luckily, since parting ways, we are all friends again, which is nice, but I always wanted to be a solo artist, so I’m happy we did it amicably. It sounds like a divorce, but it kind of was.” Rich “DJ Riddler” Pangilinan , a well-known DJ/producer and former Mynt member, shared a similar sentiment regarding the split, saying he’s also glad the past is behind them. “It’s no secret that there were some differences in opinions on that project and some feelings were hurt on both sides,” he said. “It took some time to mend those fences, however, we were friends before that project, and we stayed friends after. “If there was one thing that I regret about that project it is that we never really got to do another album. I think that with what we both know now, we could come up with something very special.” Whether or not a Mynt reunion would ever be in the cards, Sozzi is keeping her eyes and ears open, always seeking to make moves and pair up with the hottest names in dance music. “I would love to work with deadmau5, David Guetta. I’m a big fan of Kaskade; I’ve been trying actually to get Ryan to work on one of my tracks. There’s so many great people doing great music and great tracks that I would like to work with.” Are you awaiting the release of Kim Sozzi’s next album? Tell us below!

Hey, Now! JWOWW Will Strip for Playboy!

Don’t sound the Grenade Alarm yet, because we’ve got a Situation. Are you tired of the blurred out crotch flashes, butt cracks, and nip-slips on the Jersey Shore and want to take a look at the Jersey jugs and juiceboxes that MTV doesn’t want you to see? Although she’s gone back on forth on this more times than with her best frenemy Sammi or her current boyfriend Tom, with whom she broke up forever earlier in the season, Jenny JWOWW Farley now says that she does want to strip in Playboy . Previously, she had announced she wouldn’t do it so as not to disappoint the kids who were looking up to her (and up her skirt) on the show, telling the press, “I want kids to look up to me for college rather than Playboy .” “But I do feel like it’s a strong thing for women to do. And as long as they cover up certain parts, I’m good,” she reconsidered. “We have to cover up the vajajay cooka. And then it’s like, Why not? You see my boobs out half the time anyway.” Now Playboy readers will have the chance to see what, until now, you could only see if you were in either of the bathrooms, or the dance floor, or the parking lot of Club Tantra in Seaside. Or the beach. Or the T-shirt store, or the boardwalk.

Jersey Shore Recap: Sloppopatumus Unclogged!

In the aftermath of Sammi’s exit from Jersey Shore last week, Ronnie was down in the dumps. The rest of the gang seemed focused more on absurd pranks. Despite the title, “The Great Depression” was lighter fare than more recent episodes, with fewer epic meltdowns and more bathroom humor – quite literally. As always, THG has broken down some of the top Jersey Shore quotes and scenes from the episode in our trademark +/- recap below. Let’s get to it: THAT’S JUST WRONG: Pauly’s discover was dirty even by JS standards. Right off the bat for using the show to pitch Britney Spears’ new music video . Videos, on MTV? What a concept! Plus 5 in hopes that this pattern continues. Despite being enraged every second she’s around, Ronnie mopes now that Sammi’s gone, whining non-stop in an all-out effort to grow a vagina. Minus 19 . Seriously, Jenni could take Ronnie. You can see the disgust on her face. Plus 4 . Sammi breaks down at home. Minus 10 for not making this a Sammi-free week, ’cause she’ll be back wearing her one white skirt/black top outfit in no time. The Situation attempts to give Ron-Ron a pep talk. On relationships. Minus only 2 , because it was nice of him to reach out, but talk about useless advice. Deena slams cake in Vinny’s face, then hides under a bed, only to struggle to get her ass, emblazoned with the words GO HARD on it, underneath. Plus 8. The prank war gets a nasty when droppings from the dog end up in Deena’s and Pauly’s beds. Practical jokes are awesome, but … fecal waste. Minus 10 . Vinny hijacks Snooki’s favorite stuffed animal, Crocodilly, dangling it from the deck in a stressful hostage situation. That’s how to mess with a girl! Plus 7 . Is it just us or is Snooki resembling Snarf from Thundercats? Minus 6 , because at least you never had to worry about Snarf getting naked every week. JERSEY SHORE UNCLOGGED : Vinny attempts to navigate the brown river. Ron totally is a girl. He’s eating himself silly amid all this grief, when he’s not crying of course. How else can one clog so many toilets? Minus 3 , or one point per. Which backed-up plumbing event was more unpleasant? The toilet, as pictured above, or what was going on inside Deena’s body? Forget it, let’s move on. Wash . Minus 4 because I spit out my coffee as Snooki prescribed it to Deena, saying it will so help her issue by causing a rainstorm for the butthole. My mind is blown. Pauly finds some ladies’ underwear in the can. “How are you supposed to get fresh in the bathroom with these dirty-ass drawers?” he muses. Seriously. Plus 9 . Plus 5 more for this line by Vinny, absolving himself of any possible tie to said dirty-ass drawers: “The girls I bring home wear no underwear.” Like a true PSA. Ronnie: “I’m glad I’ve got a penis.” Dude … no. Minus 3 . WHAT UP, GUYS! The gang raids the Smush Room to Snooki’s chagrin. Snook bags a “Mario Brother” named Jionni LaValle ! Plus 8 . But … Having been c*ck-blocked by none other than Jionni a few weeks back, Vinny sees an opportunity for revenge, excavating Snooki from the Smush Room. Plus 11 . Later, The Situation interrupts Vinny’s late-night activities by feeding him a burger. You know one of these days, someone’s going to try to pull The Rodeo . Plus 8 . Deena feels drunk and homesick after a night out at Karma. The Situation refers to her as a Sloppopatumus, which was funny but poorly-timed, so Plus only 4 . Ronnie somehow talks Deena down, and it’s actually sweet. Plus 7 . Minus 2 for me just getting emotional over this utter nonsense. TOTAL: +17. SEASON TOTAL: +194.

Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale Is ‘All Club Bangers,’ Pauly D Says

‘The hands immediately go up when that beat kicks [in],’ the ‘Jersey Shore’ DJ tells MTV News live about ‘Hold It Against Me.’ By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Britney Spears in her “Hold It Against Me” video Photo: Jive Britney’s “Hold It Against Me” has at least one fan fist-pumping: Pauly D. And he’s not alone! MTV News caught up with the “Jersey Shore” DJ via Skype to gauge his reaction to Britney Spears’ hotly anticipated new track, “Hold it Against Me,” and the accompanying video , which premiered Thursday on MTV. He was feeling under the weather during our live “MTV First: Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ Video Premiere” discussion but kept his appointment: “It’s all good, man,” he said. “I’m a warrior!” Increasingly known for his night job as a DJ, the reality-show star gave a strong endorsement for the track’s club-worthiness. “It’s a major, fist-pumping track,” he said of the reactions the song has gotten when he’s put it on. “The hands immediately go up when that beat kicks [in]. It’s such a hard beat. It’s like ‘ba-ba-ba,’ they’re fist-pumping to that track. It has energy. I love it!” When Pauly is working a room, he’s careful to stay in tune with the vibe of the crowd. A track like Britney’s latest single is exactly the type of song he prefers to keep in his arsenal as a secret weapon. It’s the type of song he’s dubbed a “go-to” track when DJing. “I don’t make any set [lists],” he explained. “I read the crowd. And then if I’m playing something and I’m kind of losing them a little bit, I know if I drop that track, I bring ’em right back!” So how might a great DJ follow up a “go-to” song like “Hold it Against Me”? “You gotta keep that momentum after that track, so I drop my track immediately after that, ‘Beat Dat Beat (It’s Time To),’ ” he offered, in something of a good-natured plug for his own single. Pauly D’s position of privilege as an MTV star and budding DJ has, in addition to the obvious perks, afforded him an opportunity Britney fans would salivate over: the chance to hear much of her forthcoming new album, Femme Fatale, which doesn’t drop until March 29. “Seriously, it’s all full of club bangers,” he revealed. “And I’m so excited about it, because I cannot wait to play ’em in the club. Literally, you can play the majority of that album in the club. I love the way she went to that route.” In a move that displayed his increasing media savvy, Pauly refused to let any song titles slip, but he did reiterate that “they’re all club bangers. They’re a lot like ‘Hold it Against Me.’ [ Femme Fatale is full of] major, major, club-banging tracks.” Do you agree with Pauly’s “club banger” assessment of “Hold It Against Me”? Let us know in the comments! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Pauly D Calls Out Situation’s ‘Guy Code’ After Latest ‘Jersey Shore’

‘It’s just something that you wouldn’t normally do,’ Pauly tells MTV News of Sitch pursuing his ex-girlfriend. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Matt Harper Vinny, the Situation and Pauly D Photo: Josh Kessler While the drama on Thursday’s episode of “Jersey Shore” is largely dominated by the fallout from Ronnie and Sammi’s room-trashing, curse-filled blowout, a bit of a spectacle broke out between the dudes in the house too. It all went down during a fist-pumping excursion to Karma, as Pauly D’s ex-girlfriend showed up — still clearly carrying a whole lot of affection for the reality-show DJ — and found herself on the receiving end of some amorous attention from the Situation. As Pauly said during the show, “Mike has no guy code whatsoever. He’ll pull a robbery on your own ex-girlfriend.” The hookup robbery, it should be noted, was unsuccessful, but that didn’t stop Pauly from being a bit miffed about the incident when MTV News caught up with him via Skype this week. “It’s just something that you wouldn’t normally do,” he told us. “I wouldn’t do that to Vinny. I wouldn’t do that to any of my friends at home. So we all start to realize, we’re like, ‘Oh my God, if Situation would do that, imagine what he would do to your own girlfriend?’ ” Sitch has found himself in similar situations over the course of the series, but as he explained to us last year , he always has the best of intentions. “I’m never disrespectful,” he said. “I might be forward, not to be wasting my time or the girl’s time … but at the same time, I’m sweet and I’m genuine and I’m generous and I’m respectful.” The clash at Karma, however, was nothing compared to the continuing drama between Sam and Ron. Even though she fled Seaside Heights, their relationship baggage loomed large on the new episode. “The Ronnie and Sammi drama is awkward. It put such a burden on that house,” Pauly admitted. “Sometimes you can’t help but to be involved in their relationship — you don’t even want it. I’m a single guy, I feel like I got girlfriend drama, but we make the best of it. I’m cleaning my sneakers, I’m going out, I’m having a good time. I’m not going to let their relationship ruin my summer at the Jersey Shore.” Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.
