Jacob Lusk Lets It Out On ‘American Idol’ With ‘God Bless The Child’

Judge Steven Tyler tells singer’s family to ‘be proud’ after emotional performance. By Adam Graham Jacob Lusk on “American Idol” on February 17, 2011 Photo: FOX Where has “American Idol” been hiding Jacob Lusk? The 23-year-old spa concierge from Compton, California, who had barely been seen prior to Thursday’s (February 17) episode, stepped out in a big way during the final Hollywood Week show , flooring the judges and his fellow contestants with one of the most stunning, stirring auditions ever seen on the “Idol” stage. Lusk, dressed in a pair of blue jeans and an untucked tuxedo shirt, hit the stage and gave a wildly original take on Billie Holiday’s “God Bless the Child” that had him flexing his range from deep lows to high highs, and scatting between the lyrics. His expressive face contoured around each of the words, as he clenched his eyes tightly and flexed his eyebrows to give emphasis to each of his lines. Jennifer Lopez looked puzzled by his unorthodox delivery at first, but it wasn’t long before all three judges were screaming in amazement, with Steven Tyler leaning back in his seat and getting Randy Jackson’s attention with a huge, “Woooooo-hoooooo!” Soon Lopez was whooping too, and all three judges — and a handful of Lusk’s fellow contestants — were on their feet in the auditorium. As Lusk wrapped up, Tyler turned to Lusk’s family in the audience and yelled, “Be proud!” Lusk jumped up and down onstage after seeing his peers’ and the judges’ reactions and blew a kiss to the crowd before quickly darting out of the room. Outside, he was greeted by Ryan Seacrest and members of his family, and Lusk appeared physically and emotionally spent. He fell into his family members’ arms and wailed with tears, before catching himself and explaining, “I’m not a cryer, I don’t cry.” Said Seacrest, “Coulda fooled me.” After the auditions, contestants were quarantined in four separate rooms as they awaited their fate from the judges. But it had to be a comfort for everyone in Lusk’s room to know they were grouped with the man who just brought down the house onstage like few had before him, and sure enough, when it came time to deliver the news, they all graduated through to the next round. ‘Jersey Shore’ High Five: Say My Name, Snooki

Plus: Sammi’s exit, Deena’s cake fight and more top moments. By Jim Cantiello Snooki and Gianni on Thursday’s episode of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV Elaborate pranks! Mystery panties! And Ronnie’s sad that he verbally abused his girlfriend! Check out the video below for my five favorite moments from this week’s ” Jersey Shore .” 5. Cake Boss The aftermath of Sammi and Ronnie’s blowup is still being felt. But Deena knows how to cheer everyone up! “I miss Sammi,” Deena says. “Everyone’s in a f—in’ mood, and Ronnie’s just, like, toxic. We decide, ‘Yo, let’s throw cake in Vinny’s hair!’ ” That’s how Deena lightens the mood? Remind me never to go to a Cortese family funeral. 4. Prank War The cake in the face led to an all-out prank war, with Vinny prepping some water balloons for revenge. “You do not prank me,” Vinny says. “I have brains. You could put Deena’s and Nicole’s brains together and their brain still wouldn’t equal mine.” Then, Vinny proceeds to drop his water balloon on the floor. “What happened?” Pauly D asks. “Ya just got yourself?” Vinny went to law school, you guys. I just thought I should bring that up. 3. Sammi Goes Home Sammi may have escaped Ronnie’s wrath, but she didn’t escape MTV cameras, which followed her back home to catch a heart-to-heart with her mom about the destructive relationship. So in this episode, we had serious scenes that addressed abuse surrounded by silly scenes about dirty panties and constipation. Since when did Tyler Perry start directing this show? 2. Cab’s Here! You’re just going to have to check out the embedded video for Pauly D ‘s best “cab’s here” moment ever. Trust us. 1. What’s Your Name? Snooki got it in with that dude who had that uncle who c—blocked Vinny. His name escapes me. What was it — Mario? Giovanni? Esperanza Spalding? Snooki: “I haven’t gotten it in in like four months, and the fact that I have a boy who wants to get it in? Please, let me live!” Gianni: “Say my name.” Snooki: “…” Gianni: “Oh my God!” Snooki: “No, I know it!” Gianni: “No you don’t.” Snooki: “No, I swear.” Snooki [in the confessional]: “I have no idea what this kid’s name is, so I might as well just give him an ugly name.” Gianni: “What is it then?” Snooki: “Bernard.” Gianni: “Oh my God!” And they hook up anyway. Gianni, your name is no longer relevant. What was your favorite “Jersey Shore” moment this week? Let us know in the comments! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. ‘Jersey Shore’ Star Deena Recalls Dirty-Dancing Past On ‘When I Was 17’

‘Everybody was like, ‘Oh my God, where did that come from?’ ‘ reality starlet says of her suggestive dance-team routines. By James Dinh “Jersey Shore” star Deena appears on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News Long before her fist-pumping days in Seaside Heights, “Jersey Shore” star Deena Nicole Cortese was already causing a commotion over her suggestive dance-floor skills. On the latest installment of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” the reality TV newcomer reminiscences about her dirty-dancing antics. “When I was 17, I quit cheerleading and started dancing,” Deena says on Saturday’s episode. “It was great because me and my one girlfriend were the captains of it, and we were, like, making up the dance moves. We got to pick out our outfits and I got to show my dance moves off. It kind of brought my music into the dance team.” With her newfound creative freedom, the New Jersey native whipped up a sassy dance routine. But the high school’s staff wasn’t too impressed with Deena’s choreography. “I remember making up this crazy dance move, like sexy moves, you know, like shaking your butt,” she admits. “Everybody was sitting there like, ‘Oh my God, where did that come from?’ ” Childhood friend Jaimie also remembers the controversy. “Our small town wasn’t ready for the dance moves that came out of Deena’s mind, and definitely made the teachers raise an eyebrow of what was going on,” she says. Despite the reaction of the faculty, the self-proclaimed “Energizer Bunny” says she really never understood why her routine was such a big deal. “[The teachers] were like, ‘Are they allowed to dance like that?’ I’m thinking to myself, ‘Yeah, we can dance like this,’ ” the reality starlet recalls. “It’s allowed. I’m not showing any boob or anything, it’s OK — God, open your windows,” she laughs at the memory. “There’s a lot out there.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Deena Cortese and Patrick Stump — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. JWoww Dishes Relationship Advice On ‘Tonight Show’

‘Jersey Shore’ star is out promoting her book, ‘The Rules According to JWoww.’ By Terri Schwartz JWoww on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Photo: NBC Though Jenni “JWoww” Farley is one of the most lovable characters from “Jersey Shore” both on- and offscreen, she certainly has had her problems with relationships. For the first season of the show, she entered the Shore house in a steady relationship with boyfriend Tommy, but after a steamy make-out session with castmate Pauly D, he broke it off with her. Now, however, she’s seven months into a relationship with boyfriend Roger and told Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” that she has learned her lesson. “I wrote the book [‘The Rules According to JWoww’] when I was in the middle of our relationship, about four months ago, and I based it off him,” she told Leno on Wednesday night’s show. “I was like, this is what I did wrong with all my exes, and now I found him.” The book details JWoww’s secrets on how to land the guy you want and how to destroy the competition, and she shared some of her sage advice on “The Tonight Show.” Rule number one for a first date? Don’t drink. “Don’t end up like we are on the show. Avoid that,” the 23-year-old said with a laugh. “You want to build communication. You want to listen to what they’re saying.” JWoww said she’s been in three serious relationships so far, and has had her share of dating men both good and bad. When Leno asked her if she hopes she and Roger will still be together the next time she comes on the show, she said she hopes so. But JWoww isn’t sure whether Roger will be visiting her when the “Jersey Shore” gang heads to Italy for the coming season. Still, with her advice book built around their relationship, it seems that sticking by her own rules — like being up front about her eating habits and not settling for a guy whose lifestyle she has a problem with — has been keeping the two lovebirds happy. Take for instance rule 17: Bust his balls a little. “Roger’s going to kill me. He’s a bodybuilder, he’s huge, he’s about 6′ 3″. I like to be like, oh, you’re looking a little small recently,” she said. “Got to keep it interesting.” Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Mystery Lindsay Lohan Late Show Agent Revealed: Michael Lohan!

The person who booked Lindsay Lohan on the Late Show with David Letterman this week without authorization was none other than her dad. Naturally. Michael Lohan says he signed her up to read the Top Ten list after getting the green light from Lindsay herself … apparently Lindsay saw it differently. Right after announcing LiLo’s appearance, CBS issued a retraction this morning, explaining that some impostor booked her without her authorization. Letterman’s people said that someone “purporting to be a friend of Lindsay’s” reached out to them and made the booking, but did not reveal a name. Lindsay did not explain this fiasco in much detail, but Tweeted late last night that she NEVER agreed to do the show and apologized for the confusion. Michael says he was behind it, that he got the idea after Dave cracked a joke at Lindsay’s expense during Friday’s “Top 10”, and Lindsay was into it. Again, perhaps he could have checked with Lindsay? Or did he and get jerked around by the recalcitrant star and/or members of her “camp”? Michael says Lindsay “knew full well” about the booking and even transportation from the L.A. studio, where she would do the bit via satellite. He insists everything was good until Lindsay’s reps shut it down. Naturally, the oft-estranged MiLo is pissed, complaining to TMZ that “Anything positive that I bring into her life … [her people] try to nix it.” Our advice to LL? Follow Charlie Sheen’s advice and get it together. Work on your impulse control and get your house in order! What a mess.

Lara Logan Update: At Home, In Good Spirits, Sources Say

We have a few updates on journalist Lara Logan and, given her situation , all are as positive as one could hope for. The 39-year old is at home and resting comfortably, surrounded by her husband and two children. In other news: An insider familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that the attack lasted 20 to 30 minutes and “was not a rape.” It took place a week after Logan and her crew were already arrested once in Egypt. She returned to interview Wael Ghonim, the Google executive who played a role in organizing the uprising that led to Hosni Mubarak’s resignation. Lara Logan Reports Said Logan to Esquire of that ordeal: “We were arrested, detained, and interrogated. Blindfolded, handcuffed, taken at gunpoint, our driver beaten. It’s the regime that arrested us. They arrested [our producer] just outside of his hotel, and they took him off the road at gunpoint, threw him against the wall, handcuffed him, blindfolded him. Took him into custody like that.” Friends say Logan plans to be back to work within a few weeks and is in good spirits. Possessing an “incredibly tough constitution, she is going to be okay,” a source added. THG continues to wish Logan a full recovery and encourages readers to do the same.
