17 Connecticut Public Schools Locked Down Under Bomb And Shooting Threats Fairfield, Connecticut police lieutenant James Perez told the NYDailyNews that a gunman called in claiming he was headed to Holland Hill Elementary School armed with a rifle and ready to kill children. Within minutes 2 more calls came in from unidentified sources stating that their were bombs at Fairfield Ludlowe High School and Fairfield Warde High School. The police are still calling the threats “unverifiable”, but that didn’t stop 17 schools from going on lockdown until a thorough investigation of all the threatened properties was conducted. South Carolina Man Decapitates Puppy In Front Of Girlfriend And 2 Kids The way a person treats animals says a WHOLE lot about how they will treat humans. Clearly this guy is a psychopath and needs some therapy and a very small cell. Via NYDailyNews A cruel canine-hating South Carolina man allegedly decapitated a 2-week-old puppy, as his girlfriend and her two children watched in horror. James Xavier Quattlebaum, 25, mercilessly cut the head off a young pooch with a kitchen knife after an argument on Saturday at about 3:14 a.m., cops said. A 7-year-old and an 11-year-old watched as the heartless killer beheaded the puppy. He had come home high on drugs and “beheaded several puppies” beforehand, his girlfriend, Tarsha Hankinson said, according to KRON4. “You don’t get over nothing like that. See all that blood and the dog decapitated in front of you? You don’t get over that,” neighbor Mary Ella Byrd told WRDW. “He had no right doing that dog like that. He should be punished.” Officers found Quattlebaum in the bedroom, covered in blood and animal fur. They searched the home and found the puppy’s body in the trash, according to reports. As he was being arrested, the alleged puppy killer spit in an officer’s face, a local news station reported. “Several puppies”??? This guy is gross. No one will miss him. Religion May Have Been A Motivation For UCC Mass Shooter Yesterday the nation stood in shock, again, after news broke that there was ANOTHER mass shooting that took the lives of young people seeking an education. Umpqua Community College lost 9 students as a 26-year-old shooter named Chris Harper Mercer arrived on campus armed with 3 firearms with murderous intentions. According to the NYDailyNews, the shooter’s social media profile revealed that was a “fan” of the IRA (Irish Republican Army), other mass shootings in America and may have been hinting at his plans to terrorize UCC. Police believe that religion was a motivation for the violent massacre. Those victims had been forced to say their religions at gunpoint before Mercer fired on them, according to widely-cited eyewitness accounts. “The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” according to a Twitter user who said a relative had survived the shooting.”If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs.” Also of note… A dating profile from the religious singles site Spiritual Passions also may hold some clues. Mercer identified himself as an “introvert” and “teetotaller” who was “not religious, not religious, but spiritual.” He called himself mixed race, a conservative Republican and said he was “always dieting.” The profile is titled “IRONCROSS45,” which could be a reference to the German military medal last used by Nazi troops in World War II. A blog that has been linked to him was last updated on Wednesday with an uploaded documentary on the 2013 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., according to CBS News. In another post, he discussed Vester Lee Flanagan, the shooter who gunned down two Virginia journalists on live TV in August. “I have noticed that so many people like [Flanagan] are alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are,” Mercer wrote. “A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems like the more people you kill, the more you’re in the limelight.” Sounds like this guy was not only a psycho, but looking for a lil’ bit of fame at the expense of 9 human lives. What the HELL is going on in this world?! SMH.
Don’t let people kiss your baby ! Facebook Mother Posts Horrifying Photos Of Infant Sick With Herpes Virus A Facebook status posted by a newborns mom has parents around the world clutching their pearls. The mom of the above infant intended to warn everyone , don’t let people kiss your baby! The infant contracted the life threatening virus after allowing a friend to kiss her in the mouth. Here’s what she had to say: Please share this with every new mum and pregnant woman you know… COLD SORES CAN BE FATAL FOR A BABY. Before 3 months old a baby cannot fight the herpes virus. If a baby contracts this it can cause liver and brain damage and lead to death. I know this sounds like I am scaremongering but if my friend had not told me about this my baby girl could have been very seriously ill. I noticed the signs early and got her to A&E, we have now been in hospital on a drip for 3 days and have got another 2 to go. She was VERY lucky, all her tests came back clear. The moral of the story is DO NOT let anyone kiss your newborns mouth, even if they don’t look like they have a cold sore- 85% of the population carry the virus. And if someone had a cold sore ask them to stay away until it has gone. Everyone who I have spoken to had not heard of this before and so I felt it was important to share Brooke’s story and raise awareness to stop anyone else going through what we have this week. The precious load seems to be doing fine now, the mom has since posted healthy pics of the baby. You can see the preciousness after the jump.
What Does Pope Francis’ Visit To The U.S. Mean To African-Americans And Minorities? Pope Francis’ first visit to the United States was big news this week in the mainstream media. All week there was lots of talk about his overtly liberal political views on climate change, divorce, gay marriage, and contraception, but very little about his thoughts on social reform in regards to people of color. “Black folks” might not be the first image to pop into your head when thinking about the Pope or Catholicism, but there ARE black catholics and many of them want to know where the church stands on issues that affect them, i.e. #BlackLivesMatter. Via IBTimes While blacks make up a sliver of the nation’s Catholic population, some of the faith’s African-American leaders and adherents said the pope’s message on injustice and inequality was an implicit admonishment that blacks had not yet achieved true social and economic parity with their white counterparts. The pope’s repeated mentions of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. this week during his first trip to the United States was an affirmation of what social justice activists have said for most of the year leading up to his visit — that black lives matter and deserve equal access to the American dream, said some black Catholics. “I think the pope has already communicated that the voices of the locked out and the left out should be listened to,” said Marc Morial, a lifelong Catholic who is president and CEO of the National Urban League, a black civil rights organization based in New York City. “That’s what the Black Lives Matter movement has been about,” he said, referring to the national social justice movement that first emerged in 2013 as a Twitter hashtag campaign protesting police brutality …“I don’t expect that [the pope] will go through a checklist of every nuance and political issue,” Morial said by phone Thursday from Washington, D.C. “But are [church leaders] listening and hearing the pope on social justice, and what does that mean going forward?” To that end, Pope Francis had this to say about the current political structure: “If politics must truly be at the service of the human person, it follows that it cannot be a slave to the economy and finance,” Francis said Thursday to members of the U.S. Congress. Politics should be “an expression of our compelling need to live as one, in order to build as one the greatest common good,” the pope continued. He added: “I do not underestimate the difficulty that this involves, but I encourage you in this effort.” In another address made in NYC, Pope Francis spoke on the several of the issues which affect many African-American communities nationwide: Via NYTimes “In big cities, beneath the roar of traffic, beneath the rapid pace of change, so many faces pass by unnoticed because they have no ‘right’ to be there, no right to be part of the city,” Francis said in a Mass before 20,000 at Madison Square Garden. “They are the foreigners, the children who go without schooling, those deprived of medical insurance, the homeless, the forgotten elderly. These people stand at the edges of our great avenues, in our streets, in deafening anonymity.” …He spoke of that divide often during the day, from his first remarks before the United Nations General Assembly, where he called for respect for “those considered disposable because they are only considered as part of a statistic,” to his closing homily’s observation that “big cities also conceal the faces of all those people who don’t appear to belong, or are second-class citizens.” How do you feel about Pope Francis’ remarks? Do they carry weight with you? Can the pope, along with the Catholic church, help bring about change in the United States in regards to the treatment of minorites? Image via AP
