Man Gets Repeatedly Stabbed By Homeless Man After Giving Him $1 A Long Island homeless man is in police custody after he reportedly stabbed a man who gave him $1 and then refused to give him more. via CBS New York A homeless man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges he repeatedly stabbed a man in Elmont while attempting to rob him. James Howley, 46, was arrested Sunday on assault, attempted robbery and other charges, Nassau County police said. Just after 3 a.m. Sunday, police said Howley approached a man on Meacham Avenue near Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont and asked for money. The man gave Howley a dollar, police said. But police said Howley saw that the man had more money in his wallet and demanded he be given more. When the man refused, police said Howley pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed and slashed him across the face, neck, chest and hands. The man was able to grab a pipe that was lying on the ground and hit Howley with it, police said. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. Via NYDaily News reports : A 72-year-old hunter missing in a northern California forest for 18 days has been found alive after surviving off lizards, squirrels and berries. Avid hunter Gene Penaflor of San Francisco was emotionally reunited with family Saturday after his annual hunting trip with a friend turned into a grueling flight between life and death. After splitting up to hunt deer in the Mendocino National Forest on Sept. 24, Penaflor tells police he fell and hit his head in a canyon and didn’t come to until hours later. When he did, thick fog had set in around him and he immediately became lost and disoriented. As search crews spread out across the region for him, though taking a break when rough weather blew in, Penaflor mobilized himself near a spring and did whatever he could to survive. In addition to eating lizards, squirrels and berries, he says he ate at least one snake and algae he knew to be safe. He did see plenty of deer, he told police, but he felt too weak to hunt them. To combat the cold nights, some which dipped into the low 20s, the 72-year-old built a fire and burrowed into a log for shelter while additionally coating himself with leaves. “He said he never lost hope and never panicked because he said the moment that you panic is the moment that it’s over,” his son, Jeremy Penaflor, told NBC Bay Area. Relief finally came Saturday when a group of hunters heard his cries for help at the bottom of the canyon, some three miles from where he was last seen. It took rescue units several hours to reach him, NBC reports, but by then the hunters had assembled a makeshift stretcher for him using their coats and poles. He was then carried toward the top where a helicopter was able to safely lift him to safety. Penaflor was treated at Ukaiah Valley Medical Center before his release in good health. He reflected to his son that throughout his near three-week endeavor — while faced with starvation and freezing temperatures — he learned a tremendous amount about himself. Damn, it’s not even safe in the hospital. Teen Says She Was Sexually Abused In Hospital She went in to get checked out and got “touched.” The emergency room worker needs his azz kicked. According to The NY Daily News A Brooklyn teen who was rushed to the hospital after she fainted on a subway train was sexually abused by an emergency room worker who was supposed to be taking her blood pressure, the Daily News has learned. The 18-year-old victim was in and out of consciousness Thursday around 7 p.m. when the sicko worker at Brooklyn Hospital Center allegedly grabbed her hand and repeatedly put it on his crotch. “I remember a nurse or someone trying to put a blood-pressure cuff around my arm,” the victim, whose name The News is withholding, said recalling the moment the sicko sexually assaulted her. “That’s when I started to wake up,” she said, tears rolling down her cheeks. “The only thing that was going through my mind was, ‘Open your eyes so you can see his face.’ ” Her mother was on the other side of the curtain when the sickening assault took place, the victim said Saturday. The victim’s nightmare began when she boarded an A train at the Jay St.-MetroTech station station around noon to meet some friends at Chelsea Piers. She started to feel dizzy and queasy on the train. “The next thing I know, I blacked out,” she said. She recalls people asking her questions and going through her bag in search of her identification. She even remembers EMTs lifting her onto a stretcher. SMH. “I couldn’t open my eyes,” she said. “I couldn’t speak. I just had in-and-out hearing.” The next thing she heard was the sound of her mother’s voice in the emergency room, followed by the sound of a curtain closing. The hospital worker asked her mother to step to the other side of the curtain so he could check her blood pressure. The worker left before she could open her eyes. She told her mom everything. “She grabbed my hand and told me what he did,” the victim’s 37-year-old mother said. “I couldn’t process it.” “I was beyond shocked,” she added. “The last place you would believe that would happen is in the hospital.” The victim’s father rushed to the hospital and called police. But the brazen suspect returned and claimed he had to run an EKG on the victim. Her dad told him to get lost. By the time police arrived, the worker was nowhere to be found, the family said. “She’s traumatized,” the victim’s 55-year-old father said. “I just want some justice for my daughter.” Cops say they are looking to question a 55-year-old suspect. A Brooklyn Hospital spokeswoman declined to comment. The woman was admitted to the hospital and released Friday. “I feel bad that he would go so low, that he is in such a dark place that he has to go so low,” the girl said of the suspect. “If anything, I feel bad for him.” She feels bad for him? What set the elephant off ? Man Killed By Stampeding Female Elephant Maybe some of these animals attack because they’re tired of being caged…still what a messed up way to die. According to The NY Daily News A senior zookeeper at a Missouri zoo was tragically killed by a rampaging elephant Friday, a spokeswoman confirmed. Springfield city spokeswoman Cora Scott told the News-Leader that 62-year-old John Bradford was killed Friday morning by a stampeding female elephant named Patience. The veteran worker had been with the Dickerson Park Zoo for nearly 30 years, the paper reported. According to KY3.com, other handlers had been in the pen when the 41-year-old pachyderm, who has had behavioral issues in the past, charged. Ambulances rushed to the zoo early Friday morning and left about an hour later. Officials will continue to investigate. Tragedy struck the elephant enclosure earlier this month when another of the zoo’s five elephants, Connie, died. Zoo officials said the Dickerson Zoo will remain open despite Bradford’s death. If the elephant had a history of behavioral issues, then special precaution should have been taken to prevent this tragedy. A man is dead and the zoo is still open–sad. KY3
And we thought the justice system was harsh in our country… 42 Criminals Executed In Iraq over 2-Day Period More than three dozen people found guilty of crimes were executed in Iraq recently over the course of a 2-day period. via NBC News Iraq executed 42 people, including a woman, for mass killings and other “terrorism” offenses over the past week, the justice ministry and the United Nations said following a surge in sectarian violence. The U.N. mission in Iraq said on Thursday it was concerned about the executions, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Amnesty International described the news as “extremely alarming.” Both urged Baghdad to immediately suspend the death penalty, which rights groups say has been used with increasing frequency by Iraqi authorities in recent years. Sixty-eight death sentences were carried out in 2011, according to Amnesty. The 42 hanged this week amounted to almost a third of the total number the campaign group said were put to death in all of 2012, when Iraq ranked third in a list of countries that carried out the most executions, behind China and Iran. “The criminals were found guilty of terrorist crimes… (that) led to the deaths of dozens of innocent citizens, as well as other crimes aimed at destabilizing the security and stability of the country and causing chaos and terror among the people,” Minister of Justice Hassan al-Shimary said in a statement. This is so sad. Brooklyn Mom And Baby Found Dead In Apartment Prayers go out to their family. According to The NY Daily News A 19-year-old Brooklyn man wondering why his twin nieces hadn’t gone to school went to his sister’s apartment Thursday and found her dead body lying atop her newborn son, officials and family members said. Family members believe Marjorie Lyons, 34, may have died from complications stemming from her recent C-section, but police could not confirm the report Thursday. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday. Jerome Guthrie, who lives downstairs from Lyons, said his twin nieces woke him up shortly before 10 a.m. to tell him they were hungry. He went to his sister’s apartment to ask why the girls weren’t in school and found her corpse sprawled out on the bed. Her 11-day-old son Preston was lying underneath her, he said. “Under her I saw a leg, a baby leg,” he said Thursday. “I reached out and pulled him out. He was purple all over. I screamed, ‘Please don’t be dead, please don’t be dead!’ I ran out and found an officer. I couldn’t say nothing. I was crying, crying, crying just ‘Follow me, follow me, follow me.’” Lyons died at the scene, officials said. Preston died at Brookdale Hospital. Lyons’ mother, Rosemarie Garrison, said she spoke with her daughter on Wednesday night and Lyons complained of having a fever. Her father said she was taking Oxycodone for the pain from the C-section. Neighbors were stunned by the tragedy. Police say they saw no initial signs of trauma on the bodies of Marjorie Lyons and her newborn, Preston Alexander. “She was a good girl. She was respectful,” said neighbor Donna Peters. “All you could say about her is that she was a good girl. A good mother.” This is so sad. R.I.P. to mother and child. Instagram
