Joel Osteen Relents, Allows Hurricane Victims to Use Church

Joel Osteen remains a liar and a hypocrite. But at least he’s a liar and a hypocrite who cares about public perception. The celebrity pastor and author came under major fire over the weekend after he initially claimed his mammoth Lakewood Church in Houston was inaccessible due to flooding from Hurricane Harvey. The facility can hold up to 17,000 people and there are many more than 17,000 people who need shelter after this natural disaster dumped over 40 inches of rain on the city on Saturday and Sunday. Shortly after Osteen’s church made this statement, photos appeared on social media that debunked the claim. Multiple onlookers wrote that the Church was readily available for use… while hordes of Internet users expressed shock that someone who owns such a large building would not open it up to a desperate public. Especially someone who claims to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. “We have never closed our doors,” Osteen said in a statement on Monday, adding at the time: “We will continue to be a distribution center to those in need. We are prepared to house people once shelters reach capacity. “Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm.” Most people saw this as a fairly ridiculous stance to take, however. Why equivocate? Why mention anything about shelters being over “capacity?” Why not immediately open your doors and try to help as many locals as possible, Mr. Multi-Millionaire Preacher? After facing a great deal of backlash and trending on Google for the wrong reason, Osteen finally caved. “Lakewood’s doors are open and we are receiving anyone who needs shelter,” he Tweeted on Tuesday afternoon. A Lakewood Church spokesperson told ABC News, meanwhile, that its doors have always been open. This individual says the church is waiting for city officials to designate it as am official shelter so it can obtain cots and receive other forms of assistance. According to updated reports, meanwhile, five school buses filled with evacuees, toting their belongings in plastic garbage bags, have arrived at the church. Hurricane Harvey ripped through the Houston area last weekend. It has forced mass evacuations, wiped out homes and at least seven people have died. The National Weather Service has deemed the flooding “epic and catastrophic,” while Texas Governor Greg Abbot said the aftermath of Harvey will probably be “horrific” and leave behind a mess that will “take years” to rebuild. In response, celebrities have come together and donated millions of disaster relief charities. In times such as this, when the President is bragging about the “turnout” he’s received in Texas, and when pastors need to be pressured by Twitter to open their church, it is helpful to remember: Not everyone sucks. Some people are actuall ypretty awesome.

Derick Dillard Feuds With Fan Over Religious Beliefs on Twitter

Derick Dillard just can’t seem to steer clear of conflict these days. The 28-year-old husband of Jill Duggar has been such a burden to his in-laws’ public image lately that he’s been dubbed “the new Josh Duggar .”  Obviously, that nickname is way over the top, as it’s not like Dillard has been involved in any sort of sex scandal, but his combative persona has resulted in rumors that TLC will cancel Counting On r ather than weather the storm of another Duggar scandal. The most damaging that controversy sparked in recent weeks arose as a result of some appalling comments that Derick directed at Jazz Jennings , a fellow TLC reality star and transgender teen. “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality. ‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God,” Derick tweeted in an angry response to TLC’s promotions for I Am Jazz . In response to outraged fans demanding that Derick apologize to the 16-year-old girl, Derick replied, “I have nothing against him,” adding that “gender is ordained by God,” and cannot be changed by man. The Duggars have yet to put that ugly episode behind them, and there are those who believe Derick’s actions will cost the family their reality show . But far from taking a time out from social media, Derick seems to be tweeting more than ever these days. And he’s become no less combative as a result of his latest PR crisis. Taking advantage of Monday’s solar eclipse, Derick posted a seemingly innocuous tweet about his religious beliefs: “On a day when so many will be looking to the sun, let’s not miss the Son. #SolarEclipse2017 #EclipseSolar #JesusChrist,” he wrote. “The difference being that #SolarEclipse2017 is actually verifiable & #JesusChrist is not,” a fan tweeted in response. “Do we need to have a history lesson on the FACT that Jesus of Nazareth was a historical figure?” an irate Dillard fired back. Derick retweeted the non-believer’s response, and right on cue, dozens of his 123,000 followers pounced. Obviously, there’s nothing surprising about Derick’s religious views, as he’s been quite open about his beliefs throughout his time in the spotlight. But his decision to go nuclear in response to a rather civilly-worded dissenting view speaks volumes.  It’s interesting that Derick replied at all, as he chose not to respond to the many high profile figures who called him out following his tweets about Jazz Jennings . Like the rest of the Duggar clan, Derick usually doesn’t bother arguing with fans online. The reaction seems unnecessarily hostile (an ironic attitude to assume in a debate about Jesus), and given the recent events of his public life, we can’t help but think the pressure’s beginning to get to Derick.  Watch Counting On online for more from reality TV’s most controversial family. Briana DeJesus Destroys Baby Daddies on Snapchat: You is a Deadbeat [Sic]!!

Teen Mom 2 newcomer Briana DeJesus has taken to Snapchat to put the men (term used loosely) who fathered her daughters on blast. Never one to hold back with her emotions, as you know if you watch Teen Mom 2 online , Bri is really letting these two have it this time. Those familiar with Briana from her 16 & Pregnant heyday know she gave birth to a daughter, Nova, with her ex-boyfriend Devoin Austin. Devoin, to put it mildly, has not proven himself to be an upstanding individual over the years … and it appears history is repeating itself. Briana recently joined the Teen Mom 2 cast and her storyline thus far in 2017 has involved her breakup with Luis Miguel … while pregnant. DeJesus considered adoption for her second child, because she was so disappointed about going through the same sad pattern again. Ultimately, she did not; Stella (below, with big sister Nova) was born and Briana is over the moon about having two daughters at home. But that doesn’t mean she’s cool with their dads. At all. This week, Briana took to social media to call out fans who have been relaying DeJesus’ thoughts on the kids’ dads to the dads online. The 23-year-old pointedly told her fan base that she’s in charge of the situation, saving her harshest words for the two fathers personally. “Don’t take photos of MY kids and put them on social media or send them in group chats to your friends and like you a dad,” she said. “You is a deadbeat my guy [sic],” she posted. She then told her fans to cool it with this directive: “And stop screenshotting my tweets and rants and sending them to my baby daddies.” “They [are] fully aware they [are] deadbeats and know how I feel,” said Briana, who has never been shy about calling it like she sees it. Just last month, Briana put Luis on BLAST for claiming that he made money for appearing on Teen Mom 2 (as he did earlier this summer). At the same time he was getting paid for this, DeJesus said, he was failing to pay child support for the little girl he has no interest in. Before her much-publicized return to MTV, she spoke candidly that she didn’t know quite what to expect from her relationship with Luis. It only went downhill from there, it appears. Luis was apparently dating another woman while they were together, and as we saw from the show, his excuses for this didn’t cut it. It’s all very sad, because (unlike Kailyn Lowry and Chris Lopez, for example) they were very close once, and even talked about marriage. Early this season, she was still optimistic. “We’ve just been trying to figure it out for the sake of this baby,” she told MTV producers (who are a part of the show, on and off camera). “He’s a lot older than me, he’s 31. We wanna move in together, hopefully I would like to get married, all this grownup stuff.” Yeah. So much for that pipe dream. All we can say for certain is this: 1. Use protection, kids, honestly; 2. If you’re going to ditch out on your baby mama, guys, you may want to take a hard look at your life. Snapchat shade-throwing is the least of your problems. The Walking Dead Trailer: WTH is Going on with Rick?!?

Ummm… what?!? Excuse us?!? Can we have a few moments, please? AMC has released the first trailer for The Walking Dead Season 8 and it features pretty much everyone teaming up against Negan. We’re talking Rick, Team Alexandria, Maggie and Team Hilltop, along with Ezekiel and Team Kingdom, all dead set on avenging the murders of Glenn and Abraham. “Hope you've got your s-itting pants on,” Negan says in the following preview, which opens, of course, with some taunting from everyone’s favorite villain. (Seriously, how terrific is Jeffrey Dean Morgan in this role?!?) We then see many explosions, a whole lot of fighting and even more zombies, prior to the more jarring scene of the extended trailer: Rick, waking up in a hospital bed, with a grey beard and a cane by his side. Like we said at the outset: Umm… WHAT?!? Elsewhere in the promo, we see Ezekiel rallying the troops like only he can. “When I first met him, Jesus said my world was gonna get a whole lot bigger. We found that world. We found each other. That bigger world is ours by right. Those who use and take and kill, we end them,” he says at one point, adding: “With everything we've beat, everything we've endured, everything we've risen above, everything we've become – no matter what comes next, we've won! “We've already won!” The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, October 22. You can always visit our friends at TV Fanatic to watch The Walking Dead online in order to catch up before then, and also take note: A trio of actors have been bumped up to series-regular status: Pollyanna McIntosh. Steven Ogg. Katelyn Nacon. Check out the preview now:

Hailey Baldwin Shorts of the Day

In insignificant rich kid fame whore who thinks she’s famous because she gets the occasional instagram model job thanks to her millions of followers, which kind of does make her famous for this generation, since social media is the only thing they really look at…but to people who prefer fame to come from a sleeping your way to the top, not hanging out with the Jenners thanks to your dad being some LA loser celebrity who probably made a lot of money, despite not mattering in the world, he mattered enough to get her the right friends, PR Team, to monetize her as best he could…to keep her busy at all the exclusive events….and to get her that following to make her forget that he wasn’t ever there for her when she was growing up….he was too into the LA drinking and cocaine before finding Jesus….a Jesus who I’m sure wouldn’t approve of these shorts…but I approve of these shorts…I think there’s something moderately hot about her and it isn’t that Bieber fucked her when she was underage and likely not very pure…or maybe it is….ultimately…who cares…she doesn’t deserve this much attention, analysis, make her be forgotten, and fallen off the map…so that she really starts putting a little more effort in, rather than just expect it to all fall into her cunt because she was born into it. All this to say, I like the shorts the kids are wearing these days…they are good. The Duggars: What Religion Do They Practice?

In recent years, the name Duggar has gone from a synonym for a certain brand of squeaky-clean family-friendly entertainment to something very different. These days, the name is polarizing at best, or at worst, a byword for the sort of hypocrisies and scandals often found at the heart of the most secretive cults. It’s impossible to separate the family’s controversial religious beliefs from their rise to the the near-top of the reality TV totem pole. After all, a great many of the practices that have made the Duggars fascinating to millions of outsiders are rooted in their faith. Of course, it wasn’t so long ago that the same belief system nearly brought the Duggar empire tumbling down like the walls of Jericho. For as much as we know about some specific details of the Duggar creed (sex is for procreation between man and wife only;  women are forbidden to wear pants or hold jobs, etc.), a lot of the larger questions regarding their religion remain sources of debate and speculation. For example, the biggest Duggar-related mystery of all may be a simple but profound one, and have more than one answer:  What religion do they even practice exactly? The family has been accused of giving misleading answers when asked the simple question of what faith they belong to. Remarkably, it’s a question that you’ll never hear the Duggar kids – even the grown, married adults – fielding publicly. Instead, they defer to Jim Bob, who’s stated (on the rare occasions he’s addressed the issue himself) that he and his family are Independent Baptists. Despite their name, Independent Baptists are an ultra-conservative lot with little tolerance for personal freedom. They exist on the fringes of American Christianity, and are not a recognized sect, so much as a loose network of individual congregations. Ultra-conservative televangelist Jerry Falwell abandoned the Independent Baptist Church for the more moderate Southern Baptists. That should tell you all you need to know about how extreme the IB belief system is. Amazingly, the Tontitown, Ark., family falls far to the right of even the most conservative Independent Baptists on most issues. This has led many to the conclusion that Jim Bob is taking his cues from somewhere other than the leadership of the IB Church. To answer the question of where the most extreme Duggar beliefs and practices originate, we need to turn our attention to the Quiverfull  movement. There’s debate as to who founded the movement, but it’s widely agreed that Quiverfull was popularized by the Reverend Bill Gothard in the late 1970s. In 2015,  Gothard resigned  in disgrace from his post with the Quiverfull-centered Institute for Basic Life Principles amidst a flurry of sex assault and harassment allegations. He and his organization have shelled out an undisclosed amount of cash to keep the accusers at bay, but dozens of new allegations have surfaced. In just the past couple of years, the movement’s extreme right-wing beliefs have received such negative attention that the Duggars are keeping their distance. At least to the point where they’re hesitant publicly associate with the Quiverfull movement, though there’s no question that they adhere to Gothard’s teachings. First and foremost, the  Duggars use Quiverfull teaching materials in homeschooling their 19 children (and counting). They also refer to the spiritual teachings of this movement when addressing topics such as sex and sexual abuse: After the first of Josh’s two sex scandals, which involved the molestation of five young girls, including his sisters, the family tried to deal with it “in-house.” When they sent Josh Duggar to rehab after he was outed as an Ashley Madison client, they chose a faith-based facility with the approval of Gothard’s IBLP. The Duggars cut ties with Gothard (publicly, at least) following allegations that he groped and assaulted dozens of young male and female employees. Prior to that, they called the religious leader a close family friend and “an inspiration” as recently as 2014. The most telling sign that the Duggars are Quiverfull devotees, however, is the fact that it was Gothard who first espoused the notion that defines them: That it is the duty of Christians to have as many children as physically possible. Explains USC assistant professor of religion Cavan Concannon. “In the Quiverfull movement, your kids are blessings from God and they are also weapons in the culture war.” “Some people in the movement would say that part of having a lot of kids is an attempt to birth more conservative Christians in a world that doesn’t have enough of them.”  Some have wondered how the Duggars can reconcile their wealth and fame with their devotion to a religion that preaches the importance of poverty and humility. (Recently, Jessa Duggar teaching a seminar on how to dress and act modestly – while charging $20-50 a ticket – illustrated this disconnect.) Simply put, they see themselves as soldiers in an apocalyptic culture war, and they believe that TV is the most important weapon in their arsenal. View Slideshow: 15 Disturbing Things BANNED By the Duggar Family Jesus Christ famously said, “The meek shall inherit the earth.” But Bill Gothard basically said, to read between the lines: There’s power in numbers, so let’s tailor my beliefs to help me expand my following through procreation and mass media to boot . While they often talk about putting God first, the Duggars have left little mystery as to which of these messages they value more.

Alessandra Ambrosio for Narcisse Magazine of the Day

Alessandra Ambrosio is naked in this photoshoot – which is so exciting – so crazy – I think I should take the rest of the day off for a nap – because ultimately, who gives a fuck about Alessandra Ambrosio, when you can nap…as napping is one of life as an unemployed obese asshole with Hemorrhoids’ greatest gifts. I’m sure we’ve seen the middle-aged but still working model naked before, she only exists because she gets into her underwear…so what’s so special about this shit? Other than that she’s not a very good Catholic…but who is when there’s money available…to be made..even Jesus was a Jew and knew this, why else would Christianity have so many real estate holdings… The post Alessandra Ambrosio for Narcisse Magazine of the Day appeared first on DrunkenStepfather .
