Australian Politician In Trouble For Using Black Doll In Nativity Australian politician Lizzie Blandthorn is under fire for using ablack baby doll to represent J esus Christ according to The Grio reports: “They don’t understand… I’m Christian myself and I think it’s good,” Blandthorn told 7News, explaining that people who had a problem with the display had a naive perspective of the Christian religion. “When we cut our skin we’ve got blood there… I think that’s more important. How he was, what he did for us.” Blandthorn said that she wasn’t trying to provoke outrage, or even a conversation, with her display. “I wasn’t intending to be provocative. The great thing about the district I represent is that people come from all corners of the globe, all walks of life and every age… It was meant to be a lovely reflection of the true spirit of Christmas,” she said, seemingly confused by all the attention her simple nativity was getting. But, Blandthorn said, the response was not all negative, and she has no plans to take the display down. She has received messages of support from many people who agree with her as well. “Baby Jesus was born for all people of all nations and for all of history and as I said, the response has been overwhelmingly positive,” she said. SERIOUSLY?!!?!?

Familiar though this image may be, it is inherently flawed. A person with these features and physical bearing would have looked very different from everyone else in the region where Jesus lived and ministered. Surely the authors of the Bible would have mentioned so stark a contrast. On the contrary, according to the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane before the Crucifixion, Judas Iscariot had to indicate to the soldiers whom Jesus was because they could not tell him apart from his disciples. Further clouding the question of what Jesus looked like is the simple fact that nowhere in the New Testament is Jesus described, nor have any drawings of him ever been uncovered. There is the additional problem of having neither a skeleton nor other bodily remains to probe for DNA. In the absence of evidence, our images of Jesus have been left to the imagination of artists. The influences of the artists’ cultures and traditions can be profound, observes Carlos F. Cardoza-Orlandi, associate professor of world Christianity at Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta. “While Western imagery is dominant, in other parts of the world he is often shown as black, Arab or Hispanic.” And so the fundamental question remains: What did Jesus look like? We all know Jesus didn’t look like Brad Pitt with a wig on….

The last time Johnny Depp spoke about Lily-Rose Depp in an interview, he sounded more than a little nervous about the 16-year-old’s sudden fame. He even went so far as to describe Lily-Rose’s success as “disturbing.” It’s not that Johnny wants to stand in the way of his daughter’s dreams, of course. But having been in the industry for as long as he has (and having seen what Hollywood can do to young women), it’s only natural that he’s a bit concerned. Of course, Lily has Captain Jack himself to help her navigate the rough waters of fame, and that gives her a major advantage over other up-and-coming starlets. Perhaps that’s why Johnny seems so much more chill about Lily-Rose’s future in his new The Daily Mail: ” What’s happening to Lily-Rose is something that I didn’t expect to happen this early, that’s for sure! It’s such a funny thing when you see your daughter transitioning from your baby, your little girl, to suddenly being a young woman. If you’re not really looking for it, you can miss it, and Lily-Rose is on that road already and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. “She’s been snatched up by Karl Lagerfeld – which is a coincidence, as he spotted her mother when she was the same age, too – and when I see her with make-up and all that stuff, it’s really disturbing, because she’s a very beautiful girl, and it’s all happening so fast. “Her becoming an actress was never my dream or my desire for her, but that’s what she enjoys doing, and it’s her passion and it’s where she ended up. And she’s got the goods – she can certainly deliver. Okay, so he still sounds pretty taken aback, but ultimately, the 52-year-old actor seems more proud than anything. In the same interview, Johnny was asked about Lily-Rose coming out as bisexual , and his response was every bit as chill as you would expect: “She’s got thousands of followers on social media, and they were all taken completely by surprise,” Johnny said. “But not me. I already knew because she tells me everything – she’s not afraid to say anything to me. We’re super-tight and I’m very proud of our relationship.” She might be very young to be receiving so much attention, but something tells us Lily-Rose will be just fine.

Forgive the obvious introduction, but Scandal finds itself embroiled in a pretty big scandal at the moment. On Scandal Season 5 Episode 9 last night, the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama made it as clear as possible without showing the intimate details: Olivia Pope got an abortion. At one point during the hour, Kerry Washington’s main character lay down on a medical table with her legs spread open. A doctor then turned on a machine and began the procedure. Lending credence to the belief that Pope was undergoing an abortion, the scene took place after a related storyline in which Senator Mellie Grant successfully filibustered to prevent a spending bill that could have led to the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Prett risky move for the series, huh? Pretty ridiculous and unethical move for the series, according to the Media Research Center. “Hollywood’s liberal values permeate movies and television. Last night’s episode of ABC’s Scandal was pretty much an hour-long advertisement for Planned Parenthood,” wrote the conservative group, adding: “In the most disturbing scene, the main character has an abortion to ‘Silent Night’ (a hymn celebrating the birth of Jesus) playing in the background. “This is Hollywood’s moral depravity on full display.” View Slideshow: Scandal Cast Through the Years Conversely, Planned Parenthood released a statement of its own in regard to the unexpected development: Tonight, the millions of people who tune into ‘Scandal’ every Thursday night learned that our rights to reproductive health care are under attack. Never one to shy away from critical issues, Shonda Rhimes used her platform to tell the world that if Planned Parenthood lost funding for contraception counseling, STI testing, cancer screenings, and safe, legal abortion – millions of people would suffer. And this episode wasn’t the first time one of Rhimes’ characters had an abortion, yet tonight we saw one of our favorite characters make the deeply personal decision that one in three women have made in their lifetime. We applaud Shonda Rhimes tonight – and every Thursday night – for proving that when women are telling our stories, the world will pause and watch. We just hope those in Congress – and throughout the nation – who are steadfast on rolling the clock back on reproductive health care access are taking note. Dunkin Donuts would like to make something very clear: Unlike certain other famous establishments out there, it does NOT hate Jesus Christ. The popular chain unveiled its 2015 holiday coffee cups on Wednesday, releasing to the public a styrofoam container with the word “Joy” surrounded by a clear symbol of the season: Branches of a Christmas tree. This design stands in stark contrast to the plain red cups favored by Starbucks this year, items that have resulted in protests around the country. One patron believes that Starbucks really does hate Jesus , while Donald Trump is threatening a Starbucks boycott . It’s not hard to understand why. Just look at these abominations! Dunkin Donuts has clearly won this round. Just consider the following Tweets, all of which were written without jest or irony in response to the chain’s joyful cup selection: Joy.
