NBC’s Brian Williams Gives Jimmy Carter a Platform to Denounce Fox News: ‘No Regard for the Truth’

In selecting which excerpts, from his sit-down with former President Jimmy Carter, to showcase on Monday’s NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams began with the not so humble boast from Carter that “I feel that my role as a former President is probably superior to that of other Presidents, primarily because of the activism and the injection of the Carter Center into international affairs,” but also decided to highlight Carter’s blast at Fox News for “totally distorting everything possible concerning the facts” and having “no regard for the truth.” Williams cued up Carter, who is making the rounds of friendly media to promote his new book, White House Diary: “How do you think it came to be that such high numbers of people believe that this American-born Christian President is either foreign born or a Muslim or both?” Carter answered: I think the number one factor is Fox News. It’s totally distorting everything possible concerning the facts. And I think their constant hammering away at these false premises about our incumbent President has a major impact on the consciousness of America. A lot of well-meaning people, including many of those in the Tea Party movement, believe what is said in this constant hammering away by Glenn Beck and by others who have no regards for the truth. CBS’s Stahl to Jimmy Carter: ‘You Blame Teddy’ for Killing Universal Health Care?

Saturday’s The Early Show on CBS showed a preview clip of correspondent Lesley Stahl interviewing former President Jimmy Carter for 60 Minutes in which Carter blamed former Senator Ted Kennedy for derailing his universal health care plan in 1979. Stahl referred to former Senator Kennedy as “Teddy” as she asked Carter if he held Kennedy responsible. Stahl: “And you blame Teddy for the failure?” A clip of the interview can be found on the CBS News Web site. Below is a transcript of the segment, introduced by Whit Johnson, from the Saturday, September 18, The Early Show on CBS: WHIT JOHNSON: Former President Jimmy Carter says Americans could have had a national health care plan years ago had it not been for the late Senator Ted Kennedy. Mr. Carter spoke with 60 Minutes correspondent Leslie Stahl. FORMER PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER: The fact is that we would have had comprehensive health care now had it not been for Ted Kennedy’s deliberately blocking the legislation that I proposed in 1978 or ’79. LESLEY STAHL: And you blame Teddy for the failure? CARTER: Exactly. STAHL: Health care, his issue. CARTER: Exactly. It was his fault. Ted Kennedy killed the bill. JOHNSON: There you have it. Catch Leslie Stahl’s entire 60 Minutes interview with former President Jimmy Carter tomorrow night at 7 Eastern right here on CBS.

Hannity, Bozell Tackle Media Bias Surrounding Ground Zero Mosque Issue

The mainstream media are telling us that “it’s the fringe that’s upset” about the Ground Zero mosque, but polling data show “it’s 70 percent of the American people,” NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell noted on Friday’s “Hannity” program. “That means every conservative, every moderate, and some liberals too” think the Ground Zero mosque is in extremely poor taste, leaving only “the far left and people still dropping acid,” who fail to see why it’s controversial, the Media Research Center founder quipped. “If Barack Obama runs on this in 2012, he will make Jimmy Carter look good by comparison…. This is how bad this position is, and everybody understands it except for the press,” Bozell argued later in the “Media Mash” segment. For the segment’s audio, click here to download the MP3. Newspaper Editor Questions Whether Pro-Aborts Are to Blame for Misspelled Pro-Abortion Graffiti

Somewhere between 7 p.m. on June 14 and 7 p.m. on June 15, vandals spray painted graffiti, as seen on the top right photo, on the home of Dubuque, Iowa pro-lifer Allen Troupe. They were most likely incited by a sign in one of the windows of Troupe’s home, as seen on the bottom right photo. Click both photos to enlarge. Troupe filed a police report and anticipated the same level of fair and balanced media coverage one would expect were pro-life graffiti to appear on the home of an abortion proponent – i.e., lots. But not only did the local paper, the finally posted a story about the vandalism on June 23, but catch the headline: Troupe “believes” the graffiti on his home was tied to his abortion opposition, but that may not be true? The story’s 1st sentence reiterated the point: Police are investigating a vandalism case involving a man who believes his house was targeted due to his opposition to Planned Parenthood and abortion. So Troupe could have been in actuality drawing wild conclusions or hallucinating? These journalists are either utterly biased or totally void of common sense and simple intelligence.

Five Out of Five Lib Journalists Agree: Obama’s Big Government Push Helps Dems in ’10!

On the syndicated Chris Matthews show over the weekend, Chris Matthews praised Barack Obama’s “legislative success” in getting all sorts of overbearing, big government laws passed and asked his panel to rate if those wins in Congress will lead to victory for the Democratic Party in the fall. Just before closing his show Matthews posed the following big question to HDNet’s Dan Rather, the BBC’s Katty Kay, CNN’s Gloria Borger and the Politico’s John Harris: “Will the President’s legislative success with the stimulus, with health care, with Wall Street reform and maybe even an energy bill be a net positive or negative for his party this fall?” The following are their individual responses as aired on the June 27 Chris Matthews Show: CHRIS MATTHEWS: Welcome back. This week another big feather in Barack Obama’s cap – Wall Street reform. Which brings us to our big question. Will the President’s legislative success with the stimulus, with health care, with Wall Street reform and maybe even an energy bill be a net positive or negative for his party this fall? Dan Rather? DAN RATHER, HDNET: Slight positive. MATTHEWS: Katty? KATTY KAY, BBC: Net positive. MATTHEWS: Gloria? GLORIA BORGER, CNN: I’m with Dan, slight positive. JOHN HARRIS, POLITICO: Positive. Takes away the Jimmy Carter ineffectual argument. MATTHEWS: Wow! Slight positive. Maybe just solid positive.

Israeli Attack on Gaza Aid Ship- Q&A Robert Scheer- Truthdig

From the Live Chat :What are your thoughts regarding Gaza flotilla and how does mainstream media coverage compare to the truth? Robert Scheer: There’s almost no connection, and that goes back 43 years, when Gaza was occupied. Conservative Pundit Canned for ‘Waterloo’ Remarks [Firings]

On Monday, David ‘Axis of Evil’ Frum compared the GOP’s health care defeat to Napoleon’s Waterloo , and chastised Rush Limbaugh . On Thursday he was booted from his right-wing think tank fellowship. We have some ideas for your next move, Dave! Sure, the American Enterprise Institute kicked you to the curb for being a turncoat and you’re probably feeling blue, but they’re a bunch of pussies anyway. A little shake-up could do them some good. In honor of your new found freedom, here are a handful of things you could do to get back on top where you belong. • Write a tell-all. OK, so you wrote a book about GW Bush called The Right Man , but everyone knows that was a bunch of ass-kissy bullshit. It’s time to really tell it all. You can start with something like this: Yeah, George W. Bush was an illiterate moron, so I plugged the ‘Axis of Evil’ thing into his State of the Union address to really set things off around the world. There, I said it. And did I mention that Rush Limbaugh is a dickhead? Now get off my nuts. • Fight Rush. Yeah, he’s big and angry and probably loaded on all sorts of nice drugs, but you can take him, Dave! You did once call him ” the stereotype of self-indulgence ,” so it’s time to finish what you started. And just think of the publicity. • Make friends with North Korea’s Kim Jong-Il . Nothing would say “fuck you” to the GOP like pulling a Jimmy Carter and getting down with a regime you once labeled a part of the Axis of Evil. Kim has expensive taste in scotch and likes strippers . You really can’t lose here, Dave. • Start a charity. What better way to show you really do have a heart and don’t mind all of the talk about you being a warmonger than running a nice little NGO? Start with something simple, like an orphanage in Iraq, maybe? You figure that one out. So there you go, Mr. Frum. Sadly, it’s hard to imagine any of these things coming true. A good guess would put you in line for, say, a guest blogger spot at The Huffington Post ? But don’t say you weren’t advised! [ Image via Getty ]

Yes, It’s Because He’s Black, But It Doesn’t Help to Say So

Jimmy Carter should know better than to just say what various columnists, politicians, and random people on the street have been saying for weeks now. You know, that race is informing the hysterical response to Obama’s policy proposals. But to answer your question, Mr
