Son of Syndicated Radio Host Delilah Commits Suicide

Delilah Rene, a nationally syndicated radio host who specializes in dedicating love songs to fans who call in, broke some awful news to her Facebook followers yesterday: Her son, Zachariah, committed suicide last Tuesday. “My dear friends, I need to share some devastating news with you. In the early morning hours, Tuesday, October 3, my son Zachariah, took his life,” Delilah wrote to her 1.4 million online fans. She went on to give a bit of background on Zachariah’s condition: “He was being treated, counseled, and embraced fiercely by family and friends while battling depression for some time now. “My heart is broken beyond repair and I can not fathom how to go on… but I have to believe he is at peace with the Lord and that God will get us through.” In a January Facebook message, Delilah had said her son was autistic. Zack was one of the host’s 13 children, 10 of whom are adopted. Another child, Sammy, passed away in 2012 due to complications from sickle cell anemia, just two years after she adopted him from a Ghanaian refugee camp in West Africa. This is what she wrote after that personal tragedy: “My son Sammy passed from this world today into heaven, but he left behind a piece of his amazing soul in all that met him. “As painful as this moment is, I am so so so so so thankful that God allowed me, my family and friends to experience the essence of his soul for the past two years. “Everyone who met him was blessed by his big heart, his silly character voices, his wonderful sense of humor and his kindness towards all. “He was a precious, precious young man and I praise the Lord that I was allowed to be bathed in Sammy’s love as his “MommaBear”… “We have been forever changed by having him in our lives.” Delilah is proudly known as the “Queen of Sappy Love Songs.” She has responded to an endless array of requests and dedications throughout her impressive career, as her nightly show is recorded in her home and airs on various stations around the country. “I will be absent from the radio and on social media for a time as I grieve and try to process this loss with my family,” Delilah wrote on Facebook shortly after confirming Zach’s passing. She added: “In the meantime we’ll be playing some of my favorite shows from the recent past. I’ll look forward to my return, as you all lift me up so very much. “Please pray for my beloved Zacky, and I will pray for all suffering from this debilitating disease called depression.” View Slideshow: 24 Stars Who Committed Suicide

Come On Mike: Former Presidential Candidate Huckabee Claims “‘Forcible Rapes Create ‘Extraordinary’ People”

In what we’d call the worst defense for Todd Akin to-date, Mike Huckabee spit some ridic statements. Standing by the side of the Republican candidate, former Presidential runner-up Mike Huckabee tried to explain why Women shouldn’t have an abortion…even if the conception of their unborn child was created because of rape! Huckabee used his syndicated radio program Monday to give the embattled candidate a safe venue to express remorse and his determination to remain in the race. Huckabee also took the opportunity to cast the best possible light on Akin’s awkward position. The former Arkansas governor and onetime GOP presidential contender suggested a couple of cases in which he suggested that rapes, though “horrible tragedies,” had produced admirable human beings. “Ethel Waters, for example, was the result of a forcible rape,” Huckabee said of the late American gospel singer. One-time presidential candidate Huckabee added: “I used to work for James Robison back in the 1970s, he leads a large Christian organization. He, himself, was the result of a forcible rape. And so I know it happens, and yet even from those horrible, horrible tragedies of rape, which are inexcusable and indefensible, life has come and sometimes, you know, those people are able to do extraordinary things.” We think this fool needs to check himself so he can come correct on Women’s Issues. We all have a choice but it seems they (repubs) seem to forget that we can make decisions for ourselves. Source Images via WENN

Steve Harvey Defends President Obama, Calls Cornel West & Tavis Smiley “Uncle Toms” [AUDIO]

See the rest here:

During his syndicated radio show on our sister station Majic 107.5 / 97.5, Steve Harvey called out Cornel West and Tavis Smiley for their poverty bus tour, while defending President Barack Obama. After a listener sent an email about the duo’s tour being a hustle , Harvey didn’t shy away for offering his own opinion — accusing West and Smiley for using personal vendettas to damage Obama’s name. “I was a huge fan of Cornel West,” he said. “[But] Tavis, I seen him coming a mile away. His anger started when he had a town hall meeting, President Obama couldn’t come because of the campaign trail and he sent Mrs. Obama. He has held that grudge ever since.” Harvey continued his rant by referring to Smiley and West as being affiliated with UTLO.org (which stands out for “Uncle Tom Look Out”). Harvey mocked the tour by saying, “Make sure you don’t get on the poverty bus… because if you ain’t po’, when you ride the bus, you become po’.” Read the full story at The Grio. In Honor of Kevin Smith’s Pilot, 5 Filmmakers We’d Rather See Host a Talk Show

Today, Vulture reported that outspoken filmmaker , discriminated plane passenger and interview over-sharer Kevin Smith is developing a half-hour syndicated talk show. Which is fine, and honestly, a naturally-fitting format for Smith. No disrespect to Smith — even if we did once resolve to silence him by wiring shut his mouth — but he already has podcast and Twitter platforms to preach from, and we’d rather see a few other filmmakers host a talk show first. Take a look at our suggestions and share your own in the comment section below.

Mark Shields: I’ve Never Heard a Democratic Leader Accuse Bush of Lying Us Into War

Syndicated columnist and PBS regular Mark Shields on Friday actually said on national television that he has never heard a Democratic leader or presidential candidate accuse former President George W. Bush of lying America into the Iraq War. This was said in response to Charles Krauthammer telling his fellow “Inside Washington” panelists that this all too common media assertion is the “essential untruth of this decade” (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Five Out of Five Lib Journalists Agree: Obama’s Big Government Push Helps Dems in ’10!

On the syndicated Chris Matthews show over the weekend, Chris Matthews praised Barack Obama’s “legislative success” in getting all sorts of overbearing, big government laws passed and asked his panel to rate if those wins in Congress will lead to victory for the Democratic Party in the fall. Just before closing his show Matthews posed the following big question to HDNet’s Dan Rather, the BBC’s Katty Kay, CNN’s Gloria Borger and the Politico’s John Harris: “Will the President’s legislative success with the stimulus, with health care, with Wall Street reform and maybe even an energy bill be a net positive or negative for his party this fall?” The following are their individual responses as aired on the June 27 Chris Matthews Show: CHRIS MATTHEWS: Welcome back. This week another big feather in Barack Obama’s cap – Wall Street reform. Which brings us to our big question. Will the President’s legislative success with the stimulus, with health care, with Wall Street reform and maybe even an energy bill be a net positive or negative for his party this fall? Dan Rather? DAN RATHER, HDNET: Slight positive. MATTHEWS: Katty? KATTY KAY, BBC: Net positive. MATTHEWS: Gloria? GLORIA BORGER, CNN: I’m with Dan, slight positive. JOHN HARRIS, POLITICO: Positive. Takes away the Jimmy Carter ineffectual argument. MATTHEWS: Wow! Slight positive. Maybe just solid positive.

Gary Coleman’s Widow Thanks Fans For ‘Wonderful Support’

‘This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is,’ her statement reads. By Kara Warner Gary Coleman Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images Mere hours after news broke that Gary Coleman died of an intracranial hemorrhage on Friday (May 28), Coleman’s widow, Shannon Price, thanked fans for their support. The heartfelt statement was read by her brother, Shawn Price, at a news conference. “We are very grateful for all the wonderful support everyone has been extending to Gary’s family,” he said. “Thousands of e-mails have poured in to the hospital. This has been so comforting to the family to know how beloved he still is. … Thank you so much for all that you guys have done and for the support and prayers that you guys have given us.” Price also said that details regarding Coleman’s death and funeral arrangements will be announced soon. The “Diff’rent Strokes” actor , whose congenital kidney disease halted his childhood growth at an early age, had suffered a series of health setbacks in recent years. He was admitted to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo on Wednesday after hitting his head in an unexplained fall and had reportedly slipped into critical condition by the next day. On Friday, doctors announced that he was unconscious and on life support in a coma due to an intracranial hemorrhage, which results from a broken or ruptured blood vessel, causing bleeding inside the skull. Born in Zion, Illinois, on February 8, 1968, Coleman was adopted as an infant by a local couple. He was diagnosed with an autoimmune dysfunction called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a congenital kidney disease that stunted his growth (he was 4-foot-8) and required two kidney transplants as well as daily dialysis. Later in life, he was forced to work as a security guard on a movie set in 2008 when acting gigs dried up. He got married that year to then-22-year-old Shannon Price, though the union was rocky, landing the couple on the syndicated “Divorce Court” show. He was hospitalized in Los Angeles for undisclosed reasons in January, then again in February after suffering a seizure on the set of the TV show “The Insider.” Share your thoughts and memories of Gary Coleman in the comments below. Conan O’Brien’s Fox Deal Threatened By Affiliate Concerns

Fox channels currently air well-performing sitcoms during late-night slot Conan is eyeing for new show. By Eric Ditzian Conan O’Brien kicks off his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television tour on Monday night (April 12), almost three months after leaving “The Tonight Show.” At the same time that he’s set to start slinging jokes onstage instead of in front of the camera, his reps are making progress with plans to launch a new late-night show on Fox . But talks between the two camps face obstacles from Fox affiliates, according to The Hollywood Reporter — obstacles that could ultimately disrupt a deal for an hour-long show that would air at 11 p.m. Right now, Fox affiliates and Fox-owned stations usually air syndicated sitcoms from 11 p.m. to midnight . If the affiliates begin airing Conan’s show, they’ll still be on the hook to pay for syndicated deals already in place, as well as having to pay retransmission fees to air the network’s feed. What’s more, the syndicated shows, like “Seinfeld” and “The Simpsons,” perform well; if Conan’s show does not do well in the ratings, the affiliates might start to grumble. “The question is how much can one network ask of its affiliates?” an unnamed inside source told THR. Despite these affiliate concerns, talks between Fox and O’Brien’s people have progressed in recent days. Both camps agree that the program would air at 11 p.m., 30 minutes before Jay Leno and David Letterman’s shows but at the same time as Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show.” The show would be based in Los Angeles. O’Brien has agreed to lower his salary and cut production costs. The new program’s budget would be significantly less than it was for his “Tonight Show” stint. Including O’Brien’s $12 million salary, the NBC show cost about $90 million a year to produce. The Fox show would have a budget of less than $60 million. “It will be leaner and meaner,” another unnamed source said. Other sticking points remain. Conan won’t sign an agreement unless Fox guarantees that the show will be broadcast on the vast majority of Fox stations. Like Letterman, Conan wants to own his show rather than work for Fox, but Fox wants to keep Conan as its employee. But the key to the deal will rest with the affiliates, some of whose owners will be in-house when Conan takes the stage in Eugene, Oregon, on Monday.
