Taylor Swift Wants To Thank Fans ‘Personally’ On Speak Now Tour

‘I hope people leave the concert feeling like they know you better,’ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Taylor Swift Photo: MTV News It’s a big week for Taylor Swift . Not only did she premiere her “Story of Us” video Tuesday on MTV, but she also kicks off her Speak Now Tour on Friday in Omaha, Nebraska. When MTV News’ Sway sat down with the country/pop superstar following her video premiere, she let fans in on what to expect from the stadium show. “We get to have such groovy, cool stuff happening,” she said. “I’ve never had pyro before. I’ve never had aerialists before. It’s got this grand staircase. The stage in itself looks like an old-world theater. I can’t believe we get to play stadiums. I’m so excited about this tour. I want to live on that stage. I hope people leave the concert feeling like they know you better.” Swift looks at this tour as the ultimate “thank you” letter to her fans for the success Speak Now has had. “That’s why I’m so blown away. That’s why I can’t wait to go out on tour and thank them personally,” she said. Before the official tour kickoff, Swift gave some lucky fans a taste of the show during a charity event last Saturday in Nashville. She opened up her final Speak Now dress rehearsal to fans and gave the proceeds to tornado victims. “It was one of the coolest things. Honestly, we thought our first show was going to be a week later, [but] watching the news and seeing the damage, it was just really emotional for me and a lot of the dancers and crew,” she recalled. “So I felt like, if there was any way I could help out, why not sell tickets to that? And so it turned out it was something we could do. Putting on, pretty much, our first show and having it go so well [and making] over $750,000, it was so exciting.” Will you check out Taylor’s upcoming tour? Let us know in the comments! I know a lot of little girls are going to love this record. “I wouldn’t say [he’s] my prot

Jennifer Lopez Calls Lil Wayne ‘An Interesting Artist’

J.Lo’s video for her track ‘I’m Into You,’ featuring the MC, premieres on Thursday on BET’s ‘106 & Park.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Jennifer Lopez Photo: MTV News Jennifer Lopez certainly isn’t a newbie when it comes to hip-hop collaborations (Diddy, Fat Joe, Ja Rule), so when it came time to find the perfect guy to get on her track “I’m Into You,” she knew that Lil Wayne was the MC with whom she had to work. “He really is unique. He’s so not what you would think or what you would think him to be,” she explained to MTV News. “Like when I got on the phone with him to talk about the record, I thought he was going to be like, ‘Hey, what’s up, J.Lo?’ and instead he was like, ‘Yes, ma’am.’

The Black Eyed Peas Are ‘Attached’ To ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ Video

Don’t miss the Peas’ performance tonight at midnight ET on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway The Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie performs “Just Can’t Get Enough” Photo: MTV News For latest single “Just Can’t Get Enough,” the Black Eyed Peas ended up making a video love letter to Japan. The group had shot the clip — complete with glitzy shots of the Asian country — just before an earthquake and tsunami struck. The sentiment they feel for the video very much mirrors the emotion that went into making the song. “We’re emotionally attached to it because we recorded the video in Japan five days before this whole thing went down, and it’s like the type of song that gets to you in your heart,” Taboo told MTV News when we caught up with the group at Terminal 5 in New York, where they were taping a show set to air tonight at midnight ET on MTV. The song is a sugary-sweet dance track about being infatuated with that special someone. “The message is knowing that when you’re gone from somebody, especially when you’re on tour, you can’t get enough of them or you’re just thinking about them and you just want to let them know that you’re always there for them,” Taboo explained. The band released the video last month, and they say they could never have known how much it would mean to them. “It was the easiest video I ever shot, because it was us living our lives,” Fergie said at the time. “I love that it’s showing a true perspective of how it can sometimes be lonely on the road away from our loved ones. It also demonstrates the love and connection we have with Japan. Our heart goes out to all of the Japanese people who have been affected by this natural disaster.” Don’t miss the Black Eyed Peas’ performance tonight at midnight ET on MTV. The Black Eyed Peas Recall Prince’s ‘I Gotta Feeling’ Praise

‘Those songs don’t come all the time,’ will.i.am remembers the Purple One telling him. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway will.i.am performs with the Black Eyed Peas at Terminal 5 in New York City Photo: MTV News In 2009, the Black Eyed Peas found incredible success with their feel-good party track “I Gotta Feeling.” It was a multicultural club banger that was all about being with your pals and embracing those moments of pure party joy. Now, it’s become a staple of their live show , and frontman will.i.am was surprised to learn about one of the song’s biggest fans. “I remember we played the song in Minnesota, and Prince was at the show, and he called me on the phone afterwards. He said, ‘Congratulations,’ ” will.i.am recalled. “He says, ‘You know, those songs don’t come all the time. You’re blessed to have one of those songs. You know, they’re gifts.’ I was like, ‘Wow.’ For someone like Prince to tell you that, that’s bigger than a Grammy for me.” Night after night, the song gets an incredible response from fans. “When we perform it, in my mind, like, ‘Where did that song come from?’ I can’t believe this is us and look at all these people singing it like it’s theirs,” he told MTV News when we caught up with the group at Terminal 5 in New York, where they were taping a show set to air Friday night (April 22) at midnight ET on MTV. “Wow, that’s a beautiful thing.” That song came just at the right time, since the band was looking for a way to update their concerts. “We used to do ‘Let’s Get It Started’ at the end, because that was our big finale, which didn’t really make sense. And for a while, [we did] ‘My Humps’ and then it got to the point where we didn’t want to play ‘My Humps’ no more. You know, ’cause ‘I met a girl down at the disco,’ I just didn’t want to say that no more, lyrically. “It wasn’t like my best lyrically, but it was fun,” he continued. “It wasn’t lyrical miracles, but the beat was rocking, so we throw the beat in there and just let the beat linger, but now ‘I Gotta Feeling’ is like ‘What?’ ” Don’t miss the Black Eyed Peas’ performance Friday at midnight ET on MTV.

The Black Eyed Peas Talk will.i.am’s Dancing Skills

Group laughs off frontman’s lack of onstage moves. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway The Black Eyed Peas Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images While will.i.am used to cut a rug, these days, when he and the rest of the Black Eyed Peas hit the stage, will’s dancing skills are noticeably absent from the show, which usually includes a slew of other eye-catching props like over-the-top costumes and lasers. “I’m the only one dancing now,” apl.de.ap laughed to MTV News when we caught up with the group at Terminal 5 in New York, where they were taping a show set to air Friday at midnight ET on MTV . But will.i.am has a good reason for his recent lack of dancing: competition with himself. “I like to allow the old me to have the crown somewhere, because me versus the old me — I’m a better businessman now than when I was 22, I’m a better producer than I was when I was 23, so I got to let the old me beat me somewhere,” will.i.am said. Fergie, meanwhile, had this explanation: “The pants got tighter.” The MTV special might not show off too much of will’s dancing, but it will feature some of the group’s biggest hits. “Before we had ‘I Gotta Feeling,’ it was like, ‘We know we gotta play “Pump It” and “Let’s Get It Started,” ‘ ” will.i.am explained. “We used to do ‘Let’s Get It Started’ at the end, because that was our big finale, which didn’t really make sense. And for a while, [we did] ‘My Humps’ and then it got to the point where we didn’t want to play ‘My Humps’ no more. Demi Lovato Has Bipolar Disorder

Singer opens up about her struggles in an interview with People. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ Getty Images Nearly a week after she tweeted her support for Catherine Zeta-Jones’ decision to get treatment for bipolar disorder , Demi Lovato revealed her own struggle with the illness. “I never found out until I went into treatment that I was bipolar,” Lovato told People magazine. “Looking back it makes sense. There were times when I was so manic, I was writing seven songs in one night and I’d be up until 5:30 in the morning.” She added that she has “battled depression from a very young age.” Recently, Lovato has been open about her issues with eating disorders and self-mutilation. “I feel like I am in control now where my whole life I wasn’t in control,” she said of her life post-treatment. In order to stay healthy, Lovato made the decision to leave Disney Channel’s “Sonny With a Chance” and work on music instead. Her focus is not only this new chapter in her career, but also the ability to connect with others who might be dealing with the issues she struggles with. “What’s important for me now,” she said, “is to help others.” Lovato will also discuss her issues in an interview airing Friday on “Good Morning America” and “20/20.” Regardless of what she’s dealing with now, she’s made it clear that she’s hoping to help her fans. “The real reason why I’m sitting down with you is to open up the eyes of so many young girls, that it doesn’t have to be this way,” she said in the chat with Robin Roberts. Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Cover Is ‘Polarizing,’ Perez Hilton Says

‘She loves that people are talking about it,’ gossip blogger tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Perez Hilton and Lady Gaga Photo: Michael Caulfield/ Getty Images When Lady Gaga tweeted the Born This Way album art over the weekend, fans were a bit surprised by the cover photo, which features Gaga as a motorcycle/human hybrid. Was it a joke? Was it for real? Well, it was for real, and even days later, everyone’s still talking. “They were definitely divisive and it was a polarizing image,” Gaga’s pal Perez Hilton told MTV News. “I knew it would really get a reaction out of people, and that was her intent. She could have easily gone for something expected, but that’s the beautiful thing about Gaga.” The gossip blogger said the Nick Knight image’s intention was to get people buzzing, whether or not that buzz ended up in the Mother Monster’s favor. He even offered some insight into the photo’s message, which has been lost on some of Gaga’s Little Monsters. “She always wants to keep people guessing, and I think the cover works on many different levels,” he explained. “Literally, she was born that way, [like] some kind of mutant freak. There’s a lot of energy in that picture.” He adds that the vibe captured in the image will also find its way into the music on the May 23 album release. “There’s something very metal [about it and] ‘Judas’ [which was released last week] gives a taste of that dance/metal feeling,” he said. “Once the album comes out and they listen to the music, the artwork will make more sense. She loves that people are talking about it.” What do you think of the album cover? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Feels She’s Been ‘Probed Endlessly’ About Who She Is

‘Judas’ singer goes on curse-filled rant in new issue of NME. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Lady Gaga is on the defense these days. Fans aren’t sure how they feel about her Born This Way cover art , and in the new issue of British music magazine NME , the singer felt the need to let the world know that she’s not some gimmick and her shtick is the real deal, protruding face bones and all. “Let me tell you something. If you f—ing rip my hairbow and my wig off my f—ing head, my shoes, my bra, every single thing on my body, and you throw me on a piano with a microphone, I will f—ing make you cry,” she proclaims in the magazine, which hits newsstands on Tuesday (April 19). On the cover , Gaga appears in a see-through body suit, with zippers over her lady parts, wearing heavy eye makeup, her now signature “BTW” prosthetics and a wig she wore in the “BTW” video. “I feel I have been probed endlessly about who the f— I am,” she continues. “I have been quite open about it. And still nobody seems to have a clue.” Gaga recently unveiled her second single, ” Judas ,” off her May 23 album release. Parts of the song may pay homage to some of her past hits, but it is certainly not the type of pop song that Katy Perry or Britney Spears would record. “I’m not going to start churning out what you expect,” she said. “If you want me to be a manufactured act, you can f— off.” The star also defended her prosthetics recently in Harper’s Bazaar . “Well, first of all, they’re not prosthetics. They’re my bones,” she said in the issue. “They’ve always been inside of me, but I have been waiting for the right time to reveal to the universe who I truly am. They come out when I’m inspired.” She mirrored that sentiment on her Twitter page on Tuesday, writing, ” Born This Way is who I am. An artist in a constant state of half-fantasy/half-reality at all times.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga
