Elizabeth Hurley recently joined the cast of Gossip Girl for the upcoming season as Diana Payne, described as “a sexy, smart, self-made media mogul.” A media ogul who may seduce Chace Crawford’s Nate! We’re basing that on nothing but this photo from the show’s New York set, of course. We have no idea what plot developments the producers have in store. That said, would it surprise anybody? Blair and Serena both have their own story lines, and sleeping with gorgeous women is one of Nate’s strong suits. Just saying. Anyway, here’s Elizabeth and Chace on set … Is there a chance Nate will hit it? Is there a chance he won’t?
Former ‘Lost’ star will play new character Tauriel, the Woodland Elf, director Peter Jackson says. By Josh Wigler Evangeline Lilly Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Evangeline Lilly already had a strong connection to Middle-earth thanks to her former relationship with “Lost” co-star Dominic Monaghan — better known to Tolkien fans as “Lord of the Rings”‘ very own Merry Brandybuck, of course — but now she’s strengthening those ties all on her own. Lilly is the latest addition to “The Hobbit,” director Peter Jackson announced on his Facebook page over the weekend. The actress, who starred on “Lost” as fugitive-turned-adoptive-mother Kate Austen throughout the show’s six-season run, will play “a new character” in the two-part “Lord of the Rings” prequel, which is slated to hit theaters in December 2012 and December 2013. “Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character — the Woodland Elf, Tauriel,” Jackson revealed of her casting. “Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.) What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life.” Jackson also announced that Barry Humphries has joined the cast as the Goblin King. “Barry is perhaps best known for his business and social connections as the longtime manager of Dame Edna Everage,” he wrote. “He has also been an ardent supporter of the rather misunderstood and unfairly maligned Australian politician Sir Les Patterson. However, in his spare time, Barry is also a fine actor, and we’re looking forward to seeing him invest the Goblin King with the delicate sensitivity and emotional depth this character deserves.” These are just the latest developments in a string of recent casting moves on the “Hobbit” front. Last week, Jackson filled out two of the story’s most important roles, Smaug the Dragon and Bard the Bowman, with actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Luke Evans , respectively. It’s a “Sherlock Holmes” reunion for Cumberbatch, whose onscreen Watson, Martin Freeman, holds the titular role in “The Hobbit.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hobbit.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Looks like foxy Frenchwoman Marion Cotillard will be going from the high life (she’s playing a rich philanthropist in The Dark Knight Rises ) to Low Life in theaters next year! Marion has joined the cast of Low Life , a depraved drama about sex slavery. Marion is set to play a woman immigrating from Poland to America who is forced to trade sex for medicine for her ill sister. When they arrive in New York, Marion falls in with onscreen low life (and real-life (former?) crazy person) Joaquin Phoenix , who preys upon her vulnerability (ie, becomes her pimp). Sounds like a bummer, but director James Gray has a great track record for nudity in his films (he got Gwyneth Paltrow to bare her gazongas in Two Lovers (2009) and voluptuous vixen Eva Mendes ‘ mams in We Own the Night (2007) ), and with the tawdry subject matter we’re hoping this means Nudity Hall-of-Famer Marion, who hasn’t done a nude scene since 2006, returns to the top of her nudity game…where she belongs. You can check out Marion Cotillard ‘s 13 nude roles, skincluding her full frontal turn in Pretty Things (2001), right here on MrSkin.com!
First lady Michelle Obama and several other officials will unveil a new plate-shaped food icon today, Thursday June 2nd, that “will serve as a reminder to help consumers make healthier food choices,” the White House said. The first lady will be joined by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Surgeon General Regina Benjamin during the event at the auditorium in the Department of Agriculture. A Department of Agriculture statement, without describing the new icon, said it will be “an easy-to-understand visual cue to help consumers adopt healthy eating habits.” “We presume that it will be divided into sections that will show you how much of different types of foods you should be eating,” said Elizabeth Cohen, CNN senior medical correspondent, about the plate image. The move is part of Mrs. Obama’s push to fight childhood obesity. Beyonce Encourages Kids To Move Their Bodies With New Video Earlier this year, the first lady announced her campaign called Let’s Move, which is aimed at reducing childhood obesity in the United States within a generation. During her announcement in February, she urged parents, teachers, physicians, coaches and kids to get involved and suggested they look at the new Let’s Move website for tips and updates on beating obesity in children. Baruchel will play Pattinson’s boss in the David Cronenberg film. By Aly Semigran Jay Baruchel Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage Robert Pattinson just got a new (fictional) boss … and it’s Jay Baruchel. Baruchel (“How to Train Your Dragon,” “Knocked Up,” “Undeclared”) has joined the cast of “Cosmopolis,” David Cronenberg’s upcoming big-screen adaptation of Don DeLillo’s 2003 novel, according to Deadline New York . The novel is a modern reinterpretation of James Joyce’s “Ulysses.” In the film, Pattinson will play Eric Packer, a “financial wunderkind” in New York at the beginning of the 2000 dot-com bubble burst, who one day takes a major risk that could put his life in jeopardy. Baruchel, who is known for playing more reserved types, will take on the role of the company’s shy founder who also acts as Packer’s conscience in the film. The actor, who turns 29 on April 9, can add “Cosmopolis” to his growing list of projects, which includes the sequel to “How to Train Your Dragon” and the hockey comedy “Goon” . Baruchel’s casting adds to the already-diverse ensemble for Cronenberg’s “Cosmpolis,” which Pattinson heralded as a “great cast” that includes Oscar-winner Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton, Paul Giamatti (who joked to MTV that he would “get to stalk” the “Twilight” star on set) and relative unknown Sarah Gadon , who will play Packer’s estranged wife. During a chat with MTV, Pattinson, who previously revealed that he immediately said yes to Cronenberg’s offer to appear in the film, said of his co-star Gabon, “I’ve seen a couple of things she’s done. She’s really good. She has a great face.” Pattinson said he’s currently preparing for “Cosmopolis” by “working with a dialect coach … there’s this very specific accent.” What do you think of the casting of Jay Baruchel in “Cosmopolis”? Yesterday, tragedy struck the production of Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn in the form of leaked stills depicting Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) consummating their relationship between the sheets. Movieline wondered whether the raciness of the images might actually win the franchise more fans but it appears the production team isn’t willing to take that risk.
In case you haven’t heard, Adam Sandler is busy casting his next film I Hate You, Dad , about “a father who moves in with his son and his fiancee, only to immediately start feuding with the bride-to-be.” Sandler will play the father (obviously), Andy Samberg will play the son and Leighton Meester has just joined the cast as the troublesome fiancee. Sandler has also signed on a washed-up ’90s rapper to play a large supporting role. Can you guess which one?
