Jonas Brother and co-star Michael Urie, who end their Broadway run Sunday, tell MTV News the fans ‘say some pretty wild things.’ By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News Nick Jonas will end his run in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” when the Broadway show closes Sunday. The singer, along with his co-star Michael Urie, will no longer play business rivals on the Great White Way, but do continue to hold fond memories of their time in the show. When MTV News caught up with the actors recently, they recalled some of their favorite fan encounters during their tenure in “How to Succeed.” “The craziest fan encounter? The great thing about the fans is that they are polite during the show,” Jonas said. “At the beginning of the show, they have an opportunity get excited, and then throughout the show, they are very polite.” Everyone’s polite — at least, until Jonas got his smooch on. “Occasionally, they’ll have little outbursts of craziness,” he remembered. “It usually comes for me during the kissing moment during the show. They can say some pretty wild things I can hear out of the corner of my ear. It’s fun.” Urie joked, “I actually stand offstage during the kiss and scream things like, ‘Nick, Nick, oh Nick,’ with about that [deep] inflection.” All joking aside, Urie did have some warm, fuzzy encounters with the show’s fans before every performance. “Before the show, it’s fun to come into the theater every night, because there are people waiting. Sometimes there are people camped out waiting that aren’t even there to see the show,” he said. “They’ve already seen the show or they’re seeing the show in the future, and they’ll be like, ‘Hey Michael, good show.’ And they’re very cool and easygoing.” Both Jonas and Urie joined the show in January. Their run was expected to go until July 1, but they’re closing a bit early. With the show ending Sunday, Jonas will now devote more time to recording a new album with his brothers. The Jonas Brothers are currently hard at work on their follow-up to 2009’s Lines, Vines and Trying Times . Have you seen “How to Succeed”? Share your review in the comments below! The Choice, Fox’s new dating show with thematic elements similar to The Voice, has cast a variety of singers, actors, models and reality stars galore. Joe Jonas, Dean Cain, Tyson Beckford, Taylor Hicks, Jersey Shore ‘s Pauly D and The Situation, Rob Kardashian and other dudes will compete for love. The Choice’s female celebrities include Miss USA wild child Rima Fakih, actress Carmen Electra and models Hope Dworaczyk and Sophie Monk. As hinted in The Choice promo , four stars sit in spinning chairs with their backs to a group of non-famous prospective dates, who pitch themselves. Over the course of three rounds, the contestant pool is pared down until each celeb has chosen their date for the evening. Sounds easy enough. Although none of the celebrities on the show bombed with the contestants, Jonas, Cain and Beckford were particularly sought after, apparently. Five of the episodes on the show, which premieres June 7, will feature the male celebrities, while one episode puts women in the power seats. ‘We’re saying, ‘Let’s just vibe out, write a million songs and see what we’re feeling most,’ Nick Jonas tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas of Jonas Brothers Photo: El Universal It’s on! The Jonas Brothers promised they’d be hitting the studio very soon, and it seems they are men of their word. This week big bro Kevin tweeted out some footage of Joe and Nick in the studio whipping up some musical ear candy that will surely delight their fans. While there’s no certainty that the teased track will make their next studio release, the song certainly does blend the guys’ love for mixing genres, touching on soul, rock and disco. When Nick dropped by the MTV News offices recently, he said that when this next album drops, all bets are off as to what it will sound like. “We have spoken about it, and the thing we’re doing which is different to any record we’ve made in the past is we’re saying, ‘Anything goes, let’s just vibe out, listen to a million songs, write a million songs and see what we’re feeling most.’ Our statement, as a band, for this record has to be really strong. We feel like we want to deliver the best record we can.” Individually, the guys have been busy churning out albums, but there hasn’t been a proper JB album since 2009, when they dropped Lines, Vines and Trying Times. The guys are well aware that the music scene is vastly different three years later. “We pay attention to it, definitely,” Nick said. “That’s part of your job as an artist, too, is to be aware of what other people are doing. … We pay attention and have been paying attention just to see where we want to fall. But first we just want to write great songs, and as far as how it sounds, that’ll come second.” There has yet to be a release date for the album, but the Jonas Brothers have teased that it may drop before the end of the year. The hashtag #JonasBrothers2012 attached to the studio video may be the best hint so far. “We don’t know how long it’s going to take us to write this record,” Nick warned. “It may take a couple weeks, it may take months, it could take years, but we’re ready to go on that journey. It’s been a while and there has been a lot of growth as individuals and musically as well. We’ve all gone on our journeys musically. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of that.” What are you hoping to see on the Jonas Brothers’ next album? Leave your comment below! ‘It’s kind of an odd pair, she and I together,’ Nick tells MTV News of going head-to-head with Anjelica Huston on tonight’s episode. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News For the past few weeks, theater lovers have been lining up to see Nick Jonas on Broadway in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” But on Monday night (February 27), fans can catch him on a different kind of Broadway show when he makes a much-anticipated cameo on NBC’s “Smash.” Nick plays a Lyle West, cocky teen star who negotiates over money with a producer played by Anjelica Huston. And while Nick is well-mannered in real life, his brash, small-screen persona might surprise fans. “He’s a fun character,” the Jonas Brother told MTV News last week. “Lyle is very precocious and definitely a bit different than I am in reality. But there are a lot of similarities too: Lyle started off in musical theater [and so did I]. That’s how he knows all the people involved in ‘Marilyn’ [the musical at the center of the show]. … He’s a fun character; I hope he can come back again.” When Lyle isn’t busy trying to romance the ladies, he’s helping to create original music for the musical and putting his spin on Michael Buble songs. But besides performing those musical numbers, Jonas said he reveled in going head-to-head with screen legend Huston as her character tries to shake him down for money to help fund the show. “Working with her was an unbelievable experience and she’s a legend, obviously,” Nick said, “And was so great to talk to off-camera as well. Being in the room with her, first of all, was an honor and to be able to work opposite her in a scene was really interesting. It’s kind of an odd pair, she and I together kind of negotiating like that, but it’s sort of fun and sweet and works and that what was nice about finding that chemistry with her. I love her. I think she’s a ray of light.” Jonas first announced the cameo late last year and fans have been eagerly awaiting the episode, which airs tonight on NBC at 10 p.m. ET, ever since. When MTV News asked him what we could expect, he teased, “You [get] to see everything — almost everything. There’s quite a bit. “If we’re gonna open that up, then there’s quite a bit that you didn’t see,” he joked. “But that’s why I have to come back.” Are you excited to watch Nick’s debut on “Smash”? ‘He’s everybody’s Uncle Jesse,’ singer/actor jokes to MTV News about ‘Full House’ alum. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News Nick Jonas is currently playing Finch, the lead role in Broadway’s “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” following in the footsteps of an elite group of singers and actors, including Matthew Broderick, Ralph Macchio and, most recently, Darren Criss and Daniel Radcliffe . But Jonas finds himself channeling a few other actors — one of whom he happens to be besties with — for his performance. “I’m a big fan of Bobby Morse; he was the original, and he was in the movie. I love his work in the movie,” he said, before joking, “I obviously didn’t get to see him when he was Finch in the ’60s. But I really loved his performance [in the movie], and John Stamos is a friend of mine and also played this role back in 1995.” In case you’re wondering how Stamos and Jonas know each other, they both appeared in “Hairspray” at the Hollywood Bowl last year and have stayed in touch since. “He came and saw the show and overall is a pretty hilarious guy,” Jonas said. “So it’s been fun, and I hope that I can meet Bobby Morse one day. Stamos actually sent me a picture of he and Bobby Morse to kind of rub it in my face, so I’m a bit jealous. “[Me and] Stamos? It’s like dynamite,” Jonas continued of their bromance. “We watch a lot of YouTube videos. We talk about music quite a bit. He’s a big music fan. He’s a really good dude. He’s been really kind through the whole process, because he played the role. He knows what it takes to do it. [It’s a] cool older-brother type vibe in that sense. He’s everybody’s Uncle Jesse.” Do you want to hang with Nick and John? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Nick Jonas Related Artists Nick Jonas & The Administration
