‘American Idol’ Experts Predict The End For Didi Benami Or Tim Urban

‘Tim Urban’s performance last night was ridiculous and a little creepy,’ blogger MJ Santilli says. By Gil Kaufman Didi Benami performs on “American Idol” on Tuesday Photo: Fox Now that we’re down to the top 10 on “American Idol,” the competition is heating up and it becomes harder each week to predict who will be sent packing. But on Tuesday night, two performances stood out from the rest for our “Idol” experts as the likely swan song for a pair of finalists. ‘American Idol’ Season 9 Performances “Didi Benami’s ‘What Becomes of the Brokenhearted’ was uncomfortable television,” opined MTV News’ own “Idol” aficionado Jim Cantiello of the lounge jazz cover of the Jimmy Ruffin hit. “And not in an ‘Awww, I feel bad for her, I’m going to vote for her’ way.

Christina Aguilera’s Bionic Due June 8

New single, ‘Not Myself Tonight,’ to premiere on singer’s Web site Tuesday. By James Dinh Christina Aguilera’s Bionic Photo: RCA It’s been three-and-a-half years since Christina Aguilera released Back to Basics, her last full album of new material, but the singer is finally ready to hit the music scene again. Over the past few years, she’s remained busy raising her son Max and wrapping up production on her film debut “Burlesque,” but on Thursday (March 25) she announced that her fourth studio album, Bionic, will drop on June 8, and its first single, “Not Myself Tonight,” will premiere at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday on ChristinaAguilera.com and will be available on iTunes on April 13. “Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience,” she said in a press release. “The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic. My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic,” she said of her collaborators, which include Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Linda Perry, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch and Ladytron, among others. “Not Myself Tonight” was produced by Polow Da Don and an early preview may be in the works, as an empty media player is on her Web site and asks fans to come back on Friday “for an exclusive preview.” Earlier this week, the song’s single artwork and lyrics were posted on Aguilera’s site; the lyrics suggest a re-emergence of the singer’s raunchy side that she flaunted during on 2002’s Stripped : “The old me’s gone I feel brand new/ And if you don’t like it, f– you.” Fans got an early glimpse of the singer’s new material when she debuted “Lift Me Up” during “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon in late January. The ballad, which was produced and written by Perry, will also be included on the album. Aguilera, whose work has spanned pop and throwback R&B in the past, suggested that yet more styles are featured on Bionic. “I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect,” she said. In addition to the release, the image of what appears to be the cover of Bionic was posted on her site. With her hair slicked back, a head shot of a robotic Aguilera is shown with the right side of her face revealing the mechanics of several musical instruments leading down to her neck with an opened, silver chokehold. Back in January, the singer spoke about the “futuristic” LP to Marie Claire, admitting that “maybe I’ve been afraid in the past to allow myself to go to a place of ‘less singing.’ ” On the new album, “I’m more vulnerable and more strong at the same time.” Are you excited for Christina’s new CD? Paige Miles Says She Got ‘Mixed Messages’ On ‘American Idol’

‘The best thing to do, really, is just do yourself,’ she says. By Katie Byrne Paige Miles Photo: FOX Most “American Idol” fans would agree that Paige Miles made it farther in the competition than anyone could have predicted. Not only was she virtually nonexistent on the show once before being named to the top 24, she also got week after week of criticism from the judges for not living up to her potential. On top of that, she struggled with laryngitis over the past two weeks. But, against all odds (sorry!), she soldiered through to the top 11, unfortunately just missing the cut for this summer’s Idols Live! Tour. Her version of the oft-covered “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins was lambasted by the judges, and voters agreed, sending her packing during Wednesday’s results show. We caught up with the bubbly schoolteacher on Thursday (March 25) to talk about the judges’ save being yanked from her before she even sang and what’s next in her career. Q : Were you upset that the judges took away the save before you sang during the results show? Did that hurt? A : Yes, it did. I initially thought the save was something that even if they’re not going to use it, you’d get the opportunity to at least sing for it, and then they make their decision. But for the statement to be made before I opened my mouth, I was pretty bummed. Q : How much power do you think the judges have over voters? A : The judges obviously have a certain amount of power over the voting public, but it also comes down to the performer delivering a good, solid performance. Tuesday night definitely wasn’t my best, and they ripped me for it. So it can go both ways, ’cause sometimes, [voters will] back up the person that the judges ripped apart if they feel that that person really delivered, but you never really know how America’s gonna vote. Q : Did you and your fellow contestants discuss how to please the judges? A : Yeah, the best thing to do, really, is just do yourself and do what makes you most comfortable, because the judges can give mixed messages. Q : A lot of critics said Miley Cyrus was too young to be a mentor on “American Idol.” How do you think she did coaching the contestants? A : I think Miley did a great job. I mean, I’m 24, so I’m older than her, but talking with her, her age didn’t come across at all. I mean, I was just speaking to her as someone else with experience doing exactly what I would like to do, so she was great. Q : Are you able to still sing with laryngitis? Because you sounded great last night, but your voice sounds really rough this morning. A : Yeah, it was bad last night [too]. It wasn’t as bad as it is now. I’ve been struggling with laryngitis for over three weeks now. I have swollen vocal cords and there’s a lot of inflammation, and with the singing and rehearsing as much as we do, I have very little time for it to heal, so it would basically get a little bit better, [and] then I would have to sing again and it would get worse again. So it’s tough when you’re in a singing competition and you have no voice. That was a bummer, and that affected my song choice at times, because I would kind of stay away from what I would typically do, like big, belty tunes like [Free’s] “All Right Now,” which I love and I’m super comfortable at, and I would kind of shy away and try to do something smaller in efforts to not … do something where I could possibly damage them. Q : Did you realize how many times “Against All Odds” had been sung on “Idol,” and did that affect your decision to sing it? A : Actually I hadn’t realized how many times it had been done. I was in rehearsals last week and was just trying to find a slower song that I wouldn’t have to stress vocally too much over, because my vocal cords were pretty much trashed, and I didn’t want to do anything too uptempo and crazy, just really trying to take care of my vocal cords if I were to keep going, but I probably should have just picked something I was super comfortable with, which is something like “All Right Now,” and just gone for it, but you live and you learn, and I was trying to make a decision for me and my health. Q : Do you feel that the lack of screen time before the semifinals hurt you? A : Well, early on, a lot of the kids were able to build a fanbase, whereas I wasn’t able to. But still, what you come out there and do on the stage really sets the tone, and if I would have delivered the way I know I could have, maybe I would still be around. So, yes and no. Q : What did you think about Simon’s comment right off the bat that you had the best voice in the competition? A : I thought it was a pretty awesome comment, so I was happy he said it. I mean, a lot of people didn’t know anything about me, they hadn’t heard me at all … so it was nice to hear him say that. Q : Are there any artists who inspire you or you’d like to model your career after? A : I wouldn’t say necessarily model my career after, ’cause I think what makes an artist great and individual is how their career has kind of … formed its own shape, which makes them stand out. But I really admire Christina Aguilera. She’s a beautiful woman, and she has an amazing voice. She’s kind of followed her own drum, which I also really like. She doesn’t put out an album every year. She takes her time, and she makes artwork out of her albums. I really admire that about her. Q : In an interview package, you revealed that coloring relaxes you before a performance. Does that come from being around kids so much? A : Yeah. We would do it in class, and it was a way to kind of calm down the room. “Idol” is very high-stress and a lot of tension and anxiety, so people usually can’t find a way to get their nerves down. If you just open up a coloring book and start coloring, you end up being kind of focused on what you’re doing, and it’s just a way to relax. Some people do yoga, some meditate, and I like to just whip out a box of crayons and color. [ Laughs. ] So it’s a little cheesy, I know, but it works. Q : It sounds relaxing! A : It really is. I can’t draw to save my life, but I can color. I can stay in the lines. Were you sad to see Paige go home? Did you think it was unfair of the judges to take the save away from her before she had the chance to sing? Let us know in the comments! Evan Lysacek: Pre-performance Rituals

Evan Lysacek, men’s figure skating champion, is one of the eleven celebrities who will compete on the season 10 premiere of Dancing with the Stars. His partner is Anna Trebunskaya. Just like other contestants, everyone has their own rituals, which they do prior to the competition. Evan has his own rituals too. Just as what he always does, he prepares himself mentally for the first performance. In every competition he joins, he always tries to stimulate all his senses to condition his body. He also lights the same candle which he used to burn in his skating competitions. Same list of songs in his iPod. Most particularly, his chocolate shakes which he drinks on competition days. He uses the same comb, and the same hair gel. When he does these things, it’s his one way of conditioning and telling his body that this is it and it’s time to go. As usual, he prepares himself well. So when it’s their turn to hit the dance floor, he wasn’t nervous anymore. After seeing the performances of the first five couples, he felt great and even more confident. Performing in front of a live audience is not new to him, so the crowd didn’t scare him. He also finds it interesting going face-to-face with the judges and listen to whatever comments they might have regarding their performance. Though the champion has been used to being scored by an international panel, he still felt a little nervous standing in front of Len, Bruno and Carrie Ann. He acknowledges the inputs given by the judges on how they have to improve their performance. At the end of the night, he felt great and even more excited to perform on the dance floor in the coming days. Evan Lysacek: Pre-performance Rituals is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Evan Lysacek: Rehearsal Before Rocking the Ballroom

On Monday night, the Dancing with the Stars Season 10 had its premier and eleven celebrities competed. One of them was Even Lysacek, a 24-year-old champion in figure skating. Evan is hoping to gain a mirror ball trophy to his collection of awards. Right after winning a gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics, the champion still wanted to compete in a different field and now, he’s one of the celebrity contestants in Dancing with the Stars. Evan is paired with Anna Trebunskaya. They have started their rehearsals right after he came back from Vancouver. First week was the most tiring because he just arrived from the Olympics. He was disappointed and discourage for he have never thought that dancing is far more different from skating. There were some areas where they have to develop and improve a lot. First would be the posture because skating and dancing have different postures. In dancing, you always stand and lean back whereas in skating you always lean forward over the ball of your foot. In skating, you only need to rotate one way; however, in dancing it is different, you can go in any direction. There were instances when Anna holds Evan’s head while they were dancing, because as a skater, Evan would naturally turn in the opposite direction. They always give their best in every practice they do. Evan Lysacek: Rehearsal Before Rocking the Ballroom is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Monday, March 22, eleven new celebrities together with their pro partners performed in the Dancing with the Stars. On the ballroom, they performed the cha cha cha or the Viennese waltz. The couple who took the early lead, gathering 25 points out of 30 points from the judges was Pop star Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough. Evan Lysacek, Olympic champion figure skater, and Anna Trebunskaya earned 23 points. Buzz Aldrin and Ashly Costa got only 14 points. Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinska got a score of 15 points. A Makeover in Dancing with the Stars

When TV audiences tune in to watch the 10th season premier of Dancing with the Stars, they will see a new co-host in action, as well as the contestants. Brooke Burke will be co-hosting along with Tom Bergeron. She is the new face in Dancing with the Stars who has replaced Samantha Harris. A makeover was done in the Dancing during its hiatus as stated by producer Conrad Green to PEOPLE. Instead of hiding the contestants away from the audience during the show, they brought the backstage room to the front of the stage so that they will be with the audience. The so-called “red room” is now enclosed by glass wall and is now inside of the ballroom. Instead of watching on a monitor, there will be a balcony and a railing that would be placed where the cast could stand and watch the live performances. Now, this is where Burke will have her interview with the contestants after their performance and also where they would receive the scores from the judges. Another new that would be featured in this season is the theme “night”. Dances from famous movies or dances to iconic music from films will also be featured. In addition, there will be a night featuring songs by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. This season, the eleven couples will make the show more interesting and a television that people have to watch. Everyone has great talent and great potential. All eleven couples have had only three weeks of training and they will perform on tonight’s premier and later after a week. Scores will be taken from the judges and the fan votes. Tuesday, March 29, the first pair from this season will be eliminated. Performance shows will air on Monday nights, and results will be air on Tuesday nights for the remainder of the season.
