Hayden Panettiere on Fireflies in the Garden, Battling Typecasting, and the Amanda Knox Aftermath

Opening this weekend in limited release, Fireflies in the Garden isn’t exactly Hayden Panettiere’s “new” film. It’s more like her embattled, shelved, revisited and re-revisited film — shot in 2007, a festival curio in early 2008 and thought lost to the indie-film ages until recently, when plans were finally made for its theatrical distribution. At least she’s in pretty phenomenal company, starring alongside Julia Roberts, Ryan Reynolds, Willem Dafoe and playing a young Emily Watson in the tale of a family grappling with generations of guilt, misunderstanding, tragedy and maybe — just maybe — a future.

Trouble Spills His Emotions On Green Light

‘Whatever I’m goin’ through, I don’t know how to hold nothing in, period,’ rapper tells Mixtape Daily . By Rob Markman, with reporting by James ‘FLX’ Smith Trouble Photo: MTV News Main Pick Artist : Trouble Representing : Atlanta Mixtape : Green Light Real Spit : Trouble raps from a wealth of experience and usually without a filter. After the Zone 6, Atlanta, MC was released from prison on December 17, 2010, he decided to try his hand at music, using the studio as a sanctuary to get the stress off his chest. It’s a process he employed on his debut December 17th mixtape and one that he once again utilizes on his newly released Green Light . “The Green Light is self-explanatory if you think about it for a minute. It’s just a go,” Trouble told Mixtape Daily. “It’s always been a go with me, though, for whatever I feel on the insides, whatever I’m goin’ through, I don’t know how to hold nothing in, period.” On the Chase N. Cashe-produced “I Can’t,” Trouble struggles with a cheating girlfriend. On the slow-rolling track, he displays a deep vulnerability that most street-bred rappers never show. “Down” serves as a dedication to Trouble’s deceased friend AJ, and on “Seen It All” the Duct Tape Entertainment spitter tells tales of his come-up in the ‘hood. “Other folks will get it misconstrued just thinkin’ that, ‘Oh you’re one of those bussin’ rappers, you just killin’ all the time,’ ” he said. “Hell nah, I’m a human being. I’m a grown man at the end of the day so I’m just expressin’ my feelings.” It’s not all emotion-driven. Trouble perfectly balances his street material with his heartfelt odes. On “Richer Pu—,” Trouble bangs his chest while looking down fake industry mainstays with money. “Plenty,” on the other hand, features Yo Gotti , Gucci Mane and Trouble boasting about their abundant trappings. “On Green Light, it’s a lot of different kind of music on there,” Trouble said. “Sh– that they’ll f— with in the clubs, sh– that they gonna be able to ride to when one of their man’s done got shot and be able to sit there and go back to those situations and reminisce. It’s reality rap that I’m giving these folks.”

Hugh Jackman KOs George Clooney At Box Office

‘Real Steel’ was victor at the weekend box office, with ‘Ides of March’ at #2. By Ryan J. Downey Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly in “Real Steel” Photo: DreamWorks “Real Steel” was the clear victor at the box office this weekend. The action-packed robot-boxing movie took in $27.3 million, according to studio estimates, which easily bested the rest of the flicks in theaters, both new and old. Of course, the contest wasn’t exactly along the lines of George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali. Industry watchers long suspected the mass audience appeal of “Real Steel” to beat the suspenseful nature of George Clooney ‘s “The Ides of March.” “Real Steel” features Hugh Jackman opposite Dakota Goyo , a generally relatable 11-year-old. It features effects-heavy action, a family story and big thrills aimed at a broad audience. It was also executive-produced by Steven Spielberg . DreamWorks will undoubtedly continue to campaign hard for “Real Steel,” considering its estimated $110 million budget. The weekend’s #2 movie, “The Ides of March,” is a dramatic tale of political intrigue aimed for a more discerning, grown-up audience. “Ides” was directed and co-written by George Clooney, who also stars. It debuted with $10.4 million. Clooney’s face is split on the poster with co-star Ryan Gosling , whose “Drive” opened with $11.3 million in August by comparison. Last weekend’s #1 movie, “Dolphin Tale,” slid gracefully to #3 with $9.2 million for a $49.1 million total — a decline of just 34 percent. Brad Pitt’s “Moneyball” took in $7.5 million to land at #4 with a $49.3 million total. The Joseph Gordon-Levitt/ Seth Rogen dramedy “50/50” was #5, with $5.5 million in its second weekend of release. The low-budget picture has made $17.3 million playing in roughly two-thirds the number of theaters as “Real Steel.” “The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence” took $54,000 in just 18 theaters in its debut. Next weekend’s new releases include a pair of blasts from the past: the remake of “Footloose” and the remake-turned-prequel “The Thing.” They’ll open alongside a handful of smaller pictures with big stars including “Fireflies in the Garden” (Julia Roberts, Ryan Reynolds), “Trespass” (Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman), “Father of Invention” (Kevin Spacey) and “Texas Killing Fields” (Sam Worthington). “The Big Year,” which stars Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Steve Martin, debuts as well. Toddlers & Tiaras Mother to Auction Off Hooker Dress for Anti-Abortion Group

It’s safe to say that Wendy Dickey doesn’t shy away from controversy, or the spotlight. The mother of a three-year old named Paisley, who made shock waves across the Internet this week for donning a Pretty Woman -inspired prostitute outfit during a promo for Toddlers & Tiaras , says she will donate the scandalous get-up in question… … to Georgia Right to Life, an anti-abortion organization Dickey refers to as “Paisley’s charity.” The group states its mission as “protecting innocent life from fertilization until natural death.” Dickey stands by the outfit selection in general, and one certainly can’t argue with the results (just the disturbing concept in general of child beauty pageants): Paisley came in first. “TLC edited out the second part of the routine,” Dickey tells E! News. “We did a quick change into the polka-dot dress of the reformed Julia Roberts, a before and after. Everyone in the room was laughing hysterically. It was meant to be funny, not sexual at all. I made the dress myself! It barely went above the knee, very nonrevealing and nonsexy.” True, but that’s because Paisley is a very young child. Unless you’re the sort of sick individual who actually watches Toddlers & Tiaras , it’s not possible to find anything on a three-year old sexy. But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s dressed like a hooker!!!!!

Ryan Reynolds and Willem Dafoe Do Tree of Life-Lite in Delayed Fireflies in the Garden

If Sean Penn didn’t love the abstract narrative Terrence Malick employed in Tree of Life , maybe he’ll dig the pretty-similar, much more conventional stuff in the long-delayed Fireflies in the Garden — a Tree of Life Lite starring Ryan Reynolds as a middle-aged man who returns to his Texas childhood home to deal with his strained relationship with his stern father (Willem Dafoe). Period flashbacks, memories of an angelic mother (Julia Roberts), and a pivotal death that inspires exploration into deep emotional scars? The only things missing are the cosmic clouds of particles laden with meaning. Would Penn approve?

Sarah Jessica Parker, Angelina Jolie Top Highest-Paid Actresses List

Kristen Stewart, Julia Roberts are close behind on Forbes list for 2011. By Gil Kaufman Sarah Jessica Parker Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images There are working moms, and then there’s Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker. According to Forbes magazine, they were the highest-earning actresses last year, with bankrolls that topped $30 million each. Jolie’s haul was thanks to the worldwide success of her thriller “Salt,” which took in $300 million, and “The Tourist,” which co-starred Johnny Depp and raked in $280 million, despite mostly lukewarm reviews. Most of Parker’s cash came from her payments for reruns of her TV series “Sex and the City,” on which she is a producer. She also took home additional payments from the second “SATC” film, which rolled up $290 million in international box office. “People may be surprised to see Sarah Jessica Parker up there but they may not realize that in addition to acting, she earns big from her perfumes and endorsement deals,” said Forbes ‘ Dorothy Pomerantz. In fact, SJP earned $18 million in 2010 from her successful perfume line alone. Overall, the top 10 female stars in Hollywood earned a total of $218 million from May 2010 to May 2011. Just behind the top two earners are Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon , who each took home an estimated $28 million. Though Aniston has developed a reputation for top-lining a string of middling romantic comedies, even recent films that looked like flops turned out to be successful, including “The Bounty Hunter” ($136 million) and “Just Go With It” (more than $214 million). Rounding out the list are: Julia Roberts ($20 million), “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart ($20 million), Katherine Heigl ($19 million), Cameron Diaz ($18 million), Sandra Bullock ($15 million) and Meryl Streep ($10 million). Michael Bay ‘s juggernaut of a sequel Transformers: Dark of the Moon didn’t just spank Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts at the box office; it handily seized the title of the biggest domestic July 4 opener of all time from previous champ Spider-Man 2 and should hit $116.4M over the four-day weekend for a $181.1M domestic take. The 9 Most Scathing Critical Responses to Larry Crowne

As hard as this may be to believe for some of you, it appears the critics love (or maybe the correct term is “hate less”) Michael Bay more than Tom Hanks. At least when it comes to Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Larry Crowne . The Hanks-directed comedy has been raked through the coals in reviews, and currently sports an even lower Rotten Tomatoes rating than Dark of the Moon . Perhaps it needed more Autobots. Ahead, the 9 most scathing critical responses to Larry Crowne .
