There are countless disposable artists in every genre, but Eric Roberson has a career that every R&B singer who wants longevity could learn from. Overnight success did not come his way, by any means. In 10 years, Eric has released eight albums independently and built an extremely loyal fan base. Since Eric Roberson didn’t obtain fame quickly, he developed into the outstanding recording artist and performer he is today. In addition, he had plenty of time to make sure he was making music for the right reasons. Making music was initially something Eric did for fun, but his fans demanded that he take it seriously. Eric admits that it has taken a toll on his social life, but when he’s onstage, there’s no doubt that he loves entertaining. Roberson recently rocked a packed Highline Ballroom in New York City. He kept his audience engaged for over an hour with a variety of sounds and a charismatic personality. Roberson showed his range by performing a set that included the Go-Go classic “Da Butt” by E.U., a touch of reggae, and a cover of “Tender Love” by the Force MDs. The bulk of his show featured songs of his own, like “Can I Borrow You” and “Pretty Girl.” Some artists have to rely on gimmicks, but Eric has a body of really good music to lean on. If every R&B artist had Eric’s dedication and passion for their artistry, and the ability not to take themselves too seriously, this genre wouldn’t experience dry spells as it has in the past. Mariah Carey’s weight loss is the topic of the new cover story of Us Weekly. The slimmed-down singer had plenty to say about the prior week’s too. She appeared to make a comment about Kim Kardashian’s divorce at a press conference for Carey’s introduction as the new face of Jenny (formerly Jenny Craig). “I’m a real person, I’m not putting on a fake face for Hollywood,” Carey told the crowd, then spoke about her marriage to Nick Cannon, with whom she has twins. “Sometimes we really make each other mad, and that’s why we aren’t divorced after four months,” she cracked, as the crowd audibly gasped after that remark. The poster child for quickie divorces/defecating on the institution of marriage these days, of course, is Kardashian, who lasted all of 72 days with Kris Humphries . That’s not even three months, but whatever. Carey was sheepish after her joke, prompting the “Butterfly” singer to sort of take it back: “I’m sorry, just saying.” And we’re just saying … that she’s kalling like it is. Sorry Kim.

With the new season premiering tonight on WeTV, I had to catch up with our girl, Trina Braxton, and chat about what to expect this season. Take a look at my exclusive interview where we talk about her drinking “situation”, direction her marriage is going in, status on Tamar’s husband and being compared to the Kardashians. HelloBeautifu l: What can we expect to see this season? Trina Braxton: This season is crazy! It’s like season one amped up on super steroids! You get a glimpse of everybody’s life on this season. You’ll get to understand why I started drinking and why I gained so much weight. You’ll get to see my marriage issues play out. It’s basically an extension of season one. HB: Since you brought up your drinking “situation”, why did u start drinking so much in the first place? Trina Braxton: Well it was mainly because of what was going on in my relationship with Gabe. On this season, you’ll get to see where Gabe and I are going in our relationship. HB: Whats going on with the Braxton family album? Trina Braxton : You know, we’re still trying to figure that out. We’re actually still in the process of filming season two so we’re still trying to figure everything out! HB: So, how does that work: filming a season as it’s already premiering on the network? Trina Braxton: You’re getting everything as it’s really unfolding. It’s unscripted reality- and not that there is anything wrong with scripted reality. We’re going to keep it raw and true to the minute. You won’t see us fighting or anything. HB: We saw the sneak peak of Tamar getting put in her place by Mama Ev! Is this something that happens regularly whenever your baby sister gets out of line? Trina Braxton: The crazy thing is that we haven’t seen that episode yet so we’re watching it at the same time you all are! I will say that Mama does NOT play and if she feels like anybody disrespects her whether it be me, Tamar, Towanda, Traci or Toni or whoever, she’ll let them know! HB: I know that you are super close with all of your sisters, but is there one sister that you would consider your best friend over the rest? Trina Braxton : Like you said, we’re all each others best friends. We’re all extremely close but we do go through seasons and situations in our lives that bring us closer together. Like right now, Towanda and her children were staying with me for a while as you saw on the show so I would say that we’ve gotten extremely close over the past months. HB: How does the Braxton family maintain such a positive reputation in the media? Trina Braxton: Now, we are girls first and we are sisters so of course we argue and fuss and we know how to push each other’s buttons. But we also know how to build each other up. That comes with true sisterhood. We know how to make each other go “rawr rawr like a dungeon dragon” but we know what it takes to make each other happy and make each other smile. HB: How do you respond to people who compare you to the Kardashian clan? Trina Braxton: The thing is, you can’t look at them without looking at us too. There are a lot of similarities. We’re a family of girls, we have the same initials, we come from strict Christian backgrounds. Our show is about family and togetherness-and this is not to bash the Kardashian family in anyway- but our show isn’t about creating a brand, it’s about focusing on family and what happens in the day to day lives between sisters. Toni has always been a star, but you have never seen this side of her. You never saw what she was going through when she filed for bankruptcy , you never knew she was sick. There is a realness to this show that you can identify with and I think that everyone that watches has a sister that they can identify with. HB: Are you working on any solo projects? Trina Braxton: I am in the band. This season the band is doing some extra things and I am so excited because I am branching out and doing my own band. We have some tricks up our sleeves! I guess she saw how good obesity was for Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kirstie ALley, Chaz Bono, pretty much most people on Dancing with the Stars, that bitch Precious and Christina Aguilera’s career…but then again, maybe she just got her Wisdom teeth pulled. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ divorce is still on (for now), despite rumors of reconciliation and photos surfacing of the socialite visiting her estranged hubby’s home in Minnesota. However, even if the couple is making amends, there’s one person that’s still angry: Kris Humphries’ father, William, who told Life & Style: “There was never a discussion about it — it just came out of nowhere and blindsided Kris. How could someone do that? Kris was completely surprised. The news was already published before he found out! He’s hurting, but we’re here for him. Rob Kardashian is proving the Dancing With the Stars doubters wrong. He got a bad rap at the beginning of the season for being aloof and just doing the show because mom Kris Jenner made him. But he has improved dramatically. Kicking off Monday night’s episode with an awesome quickstep, Rob proved he’s a dark horse in the competition, an under-the-radar but serious contender. Watch the routine that earned Rob and Cheryl Burke all nines below: Rob Kardashian on Dancing With the Stars (Week 8 – Quickstep) He finished with the fourth highest total out of five dancers, but Rob has a big cushion over Nancy Grace, so he should be in the clear on tonight’s results show. Beyond that, though, it may come down to Rob and Cheryl or Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Hope Solo for the final spot in the 13th season’s three-team finale. ‘Michael Jackson and the Doctor’ will premiere on MSNBC. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Al Seib/ Getty Images Just five days after his conviction on a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson , a documentary about Dr. Conrad Murray will air on MSNBC. The special, “Michael Jackson and the Doctor,” will include footage of Murray insisting that Jackson “begged and pleaded” for the surgical anesthetic propofol. It will hit the airwaves a few days after Murray settled into Los Angeles County Jail , where he is awaiting a November 29 sentencing hearing following his conviction. “He asked me, ‘Please, please, Dr. Conrad … I need some milk [propofol] so that I can sleep,” Murray says in the special, according to MSNBC . “If I don’t get any sleep today, I cannot perform, I cannot do anything.” After nearly 10 hours of deliberation, the jury in the Murray case came back with a unanimous guilty verdict, agreeing the doctor acted in a fashion that caused Jackson’s death. The seven-man, five-woman jury made the decision after 49 witnesses and some bruising testimony from prosecution experts lashing Murray, a cardiologist with clinics in Texas and Las Vegas who was recruited in 2009 by Jackson to help the then-50-year-old star stay healthy in the run-up to his planned 50-date comeback tour, This Is It. The prosecution brought a long list of medical experts and emergency-room doctors to the stand to testify that Murray had not followed proper procedure in dealing with Jackson when the singer was in distress on the morning of June 25, 2009. They also presented evidence that the care Murray provided for Jackson in the weeks and months leading up to that fateful morning were substandard or outside the bounds of legal and ethical requirements. The witnesses concluded that Murray lacked the proper monitoring equipment to administer the surgical anesthetic propofol to Jackson, an off-label use of the intravenously delivered drug that was reportedly employed to help chronic insomniac Jackson get to sleep. According to TMZ , Murray signed on for the documentary back in 2009 just after MJ’s death, and it will feature scenes of infighting among his defense team. The MSNBC special will chronicle the trial from the perspective of Murray — who did not take the stand in the trial — and his defense team, including an interview with the doctor about the day Jackson died, in which he shares details about his relationship with the pop star. In one segment, Murray describes Jackson’s appearance the morning he died, saying the singer looked “hysterical” and was so distraught he resembled his ghoulish alter-ego from the iconic 1982 “Thriller” video. Cameras have followed Murray and his defense team for two years in compiling the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie’s distributor also acquired the rights to an exclusive interview Murray gave to British broadcaster Steve Hewlett on October 30, which is reportedly the only interview Murray plans to give on the trial. “I think in many ways, there were some mirror images in our lives,” Murray says about MJ in the special. “I’ve seen him cry so many times.
