Anne Hathaway Cast As Catwoman In ‘Dark Knight Rises’

By Eric Ditzian Anne Hathaway Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images Last week, word out of Gotham City was that five actresses were competing for possibly two roles in “The Dark Knight Rises” : Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley. Now, one of those women officially has a job. Warner Bros. announced in a press release Wednesday (January 19) that Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle, a well-established character in DC Comics lore who is the alter-ego of Catwoman. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story,” director Christopher Nolan said in the press release. Hathaway’s turn on the character will come as only the latest take. Catwoman has previously appeared on both the big and small screens, most recently as played by Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992’s “Batman Returns” and Halle Berry in 2004’s “Catwoman.” In addition to this major casting news, Warner Bros. finally announced the identity of the character that Tom Hardy, who signed on to the project back in October , will play: the mighty villain Bane, bringing the character back to the screen for the first time since 1997’s “Batman & Robin.” “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies,” said Nolan, who previously directed Hardy in “Inception.” Based on a script Nolan wrote with his brother, Jonathan, “The Dark Knight Rises” is set to hit theaters July 20, 2012. No offense to The Oscars. And we still adore you, Glee . But Anne Hathaway has signed on for the role of a lifetime. The Academy Awards host will portray Catwoman in T he Dark Knight Rises , the next installment of the Batman franchise that will hit theaters in 2012. The upcoming Glee guest star beat out Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley, among others, for the part. Says director Christopher Nolan: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” Warner Brothers also revealed that Tom Hardy will play Bane in the blockbuster. But back to Hathaway: Will she make a good Catwoman?

I want to officially confirm to my loyal friends and followers that I am pregnant!” she shared. “I feel great, Rodger and I are beyond excited and so thankful for all of your love and support. xoRZ & RB.” Zoe, 39, and Berman not only chronicle their personal life on the stylist’s Bravo show, but also her high-octane career in fashion. She dealt with issues of starting a family on the show last season and recently sparked pregnancy rumors when she attended a gala at the MOCA Los Angeles looking like she had a baby bump on her signature svelte frame. She also had gossip sites wondering if she was expecting when she hit the eighth annual Lupus LA Hollywood Bag Ladies Luncheon looking pregnant. Zoe was one of the first people to pioneer the boho chic look, made famous by Nicole Richie. Her other celebrity clients include a number of Hollywood A-listers, including Lindsay Lohan, Keira Knightley, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Kate Beckinsale, Demi Moore, Liv Tyler, Eva Mendes and Anne Hathaway. Mark Romanek on Never Let Me Go and Who’d Pull Him Out of Music-Video Retirement

It took a while (and a studio debacle over The Wolfman ), but Mark Romanek finally has a second feature under his belt. And it’s not wanting for prestige: Opening today in limited release, Never Let Me Go features Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield as a trio of school friends turned romantic rivals turned… well, it’s complicated. And, as Romanek sympathized, worth keeping on the downlow for folks unfamiliar with Kazuo Ishiguro’s celebrated, genre-bending source novel.
